How to be a Heartbreaker
Another commission!
Masterlist
They asked for a fic of Warrior based on the song “How to be a Heartbreaker”. I’m assuming they got the idea by listening to his playlist. :D
Content under the cut!
Rule number one. You gotta have fun.
“I’ll take three healing potions and your name please.” Warrior smirks and leans on the counter with his arms crossed. He raises an eyebrow and tilts his head charmingly.
The young woman behind the counter flushes and giggles. She reaches down and gets what he’s asking for. “My name is Delilah. And that would be 67 rupees please.”
“Delilah.” He leans back and takes a breath. “What a pretty name for a pretty lady.”
You snort and roll your eyes at his antics. Warrior drops the money onto the counter without a second thought. “May our paths meet again on the summer’s bloom on the eve of morrow.”
She sighs dreamily and waves him off. “Don’t get too hurt, handsome.”
Warrior winks and you scoff.
Together, you leave the small shop and Warrior hands you two of the three potions he just bought. “You’ll need those.”
“Enjoy yourself back there?” You try to keep the venom out of your tone, taking the potions into your pouch without questioning it. “She seemed to fall for your charms just as anyone else you seem to set your sights on.”
Warrior chuckles and pockets the remaining potion, happy to see that you took the other two. “It’s all harmless. It makes people feel good for a moment. I don’t think I’ll ever come back here anyway.”
“So you’re free of consequences then?” You raise your eyebrows and frown at him.
“Well I never said that.” Warrior shrugs. “But a lot of people come and go. She won’t remember me even a week from now.”
You scoff but don’t dignify that with a response. Warrior takes your reaction in stride and walks on. He’s happy that you came with him even if you’re exasperated by his antics. (Even if they get him better deals. But he won’t tell you that.)
Rule number two. Don’t get attached to somebody you could lose.
Warrior purchases the next item. Some medical bandages that he couldn’t bargain for a cheaper price. He turns and sees you get closer to the clerk next door. Your hand touches his arm and you flutter your eyelashes. The clerk smiles in his greasy way and tucks a bit of hair behind your ear.
You make a trade and wave to him with a light fluttering of your fingers, your bag of good in hand.
Warrior bites his tongue hard and waits for you to catch up with him. He can’t help the way he feels angry and gross and wants to tear you away from the other man. You walk up to him with a pleased and bright smile, shaking the bag of goods in front of you.
“Got it!” You cheer.
Warrior smiles sharply. “Good. Have fun?”
You pause. “...What do you mean by that?”
Warrior instantly feels a twinge of regret and can feel a slight argument looming around the corner. “Nothing.” He answers smartly. “I just wanted to know.”
You seem to see right through his words and put your hands on your hips. You walk past him, hip checking him for good measure. “I did. Thank you for asking.”
Warrior can feel the way his nails dig into his skin, even through the fabric. He has to bite the inside of his cheek. “Good. I’m glad.”
Rule number three. Wear your heart on your cheek. But never on your sleeve, unless you want to taste defeat.
Warrior smiles softly as you walk and play with Wind and Wild. You’re laughing and it’s nice and pleasant and- Warrior jumps when something smacks into his shoulder. Twilight leans over and hits his head for good measure. “You’re staring.”
Warrior coughs and smacks him back for the hell of it. “I was not.”
“You’re lucky they haven’t caught on to your little… infatuation.” Twilight bumps his shoulder and sits down next to the Captain. “Are you ever going to let them know or merely yearn from a distance?”
Warrior clears his throat and turns to glare at the other hero. “I have no idea what you’re talking about. You’re just seeing things.”
Twilight deadpans, staring unamused at the soldier that sits next to him. He doesn’t say anything for a moment, letting the look do all the talking for him. Warrior actually loses a bit of his bravado and flustrers. To his credit, he tries to meet Twilight head on and deny everything with a stare of his own. But he doesn’t think he’s actually going to win this battle.
Warrior looks away.
Twilight can’t help the little smirk that lands on his face at the sight of the Captain backing down without a more dramatic fight. “It’s not as bad as you think.”
“Really?” Warrior looks up through his lashes. He looks and feels pitiful. “Do you really think so? It can’t be that bad as you’re trying to tell me.”
Twilight tilts his head, thinking about it. “Well… yes and no. It’s obvious for most of us at this point but for them and like… two other ones? No. They just think that you’re a bit crazy is all. You’re lucky.”
“You call me lucky.” Warrior sighs. “And yet I can’t get over myself and either take it seriously and make a move or just cut it down and let it die. I’m not man enough to do either.”
Twilight sighs and shakes his head. “I don’t think that’s the answer for this. But who am I to tell you what to do?”
Warrior looks back to where you are. You’re laughing again for whatever reason but this time you turn to see him. Warrior sits up and waves to you with the same dumb smile that he’s had prior. You grin and wave back.
Warrior thinks he can deal with it, if it stays this way at least.
Twilight watches and gets up again, saluting to you and wishing you luck. Warrior can be quite stupid when he doesn’t even know it.
Rule number four. You have to look pure. Kiss them goodbye at the door and leave them wanting more.
You’re being followed, very much in a location where you shouldn’t even be in to begin with. They soon begin to give chase and you shove Warrior into a cramped closet to get them off of your tail.
Warrior knows that nothing is happening. Between you two, he means.
He can feel the way your body presses against his in the small alcove. Your dips and curves are all amplified in the close proximity. It’s hard for him to keep his head on straight and then you make even closer contact when you step inward. Warrior’s is almost certain you can feel the way his heart pounds against its cage.
The thought is strengthened when you look up at him and smirk. “Nervous, Captain?”
Yes, very much so. Warrior coughs quietly to not give away your position. “What gave you that idea?”
You grin and lean up to his face. Warrior eyes dart away, not daring to make contact with your own and he gives himself away.
You giggle. “I didn’t think the ever famous flirt would be nervous for this, of all things.”
“I’m not that bad.” Warrior pouts.
“Sure.” You agree easily. “Heartbreaker.”
Warrior frowns and looks away. “Do you really think that way about me?”
“I think a lot of things about you.”
Warrior blinks and looks back at you. There’s a certain look on your face… and he’s not entirely sure what it means. You’ve never looked at him like that before. He’s almost certain that he’s seen it before on other people and that’s when he knew to leave the situation. But he’s not exactly at liberty to do that right now.
He’s entirely sure if he wants to.
You seem to take exquisite delight in the way he nearly squirms under your gaze. Warrior coughs and bite his lip. He tries his best to fix his face and posture, trying to retake control of the situation. “Do I dare ask what your thoughts are?”
“Nothing to say right here.” You reach up and twirl a bit of his hair between your fingers. You smile innocently at him and Warrior feels as if he’s been thrown for a loop.
“You’re dangerous.” Warrior blurts before he even knows how to register the words that are coming out of his mouth.
You grin in your devilishly gorgeous way. And it steals his breath away.
“You don’t need to state the obvious, Captain.” You wink and pat his cheek gently. A beat passes and you finally step away from him. “I think the coast is clear now. Let’s go.”
And you leave.
Warrior is left scrambling for his thoughts. Within seconds, he’s left scrambling after you when he sees that you’re not going to bother to wait for him. “Wait-... Wait!”
You don’t wait.
Somewhere, within his heart, Warrior knows that he wouldn’t change this for the world.

have your feelings changed regarding FCG as a character and the way he interacts with the group in light of recent discoveries? speaking of, do you feel differently about the way CR3 has tie-ins to CR1 versus CR2? (eg aeor, the aeormatons, ludinus). personally i find the CR2 references less... intrusive narratively despite also not having that much to do with CR3's intended setting. im not sure if it's just recency bias or the fact that i also prefer CR2 over CR1, or that there's less of them
Yes re FCG; I think I've made that clear but the addition of their interest in the Changebringer and their focus shifting to trying to more seriously help people, and in general their somewhat grating positivity giving way to a more complex range of emotions have all been helpful. I am still going to be frustrated by the subclass build but that hilariously hasn't come up because the most recent combat really was just a waiting game for them, and the second-most recent combat was them trying to kill everyone.
While the murderbot concept itself isn't super interesting on its own, I think Sam as FCG is tentatively engaging with the concept of "what does it mean that this was your purpose, to be helpful until you snapped and killed everyone", and that has a lot more narrative promise than "Oh, I'm not a real sweet little metal boy?" What does it mean to be from a society where you were considered a citizen? How do you fit in? What do you do now, literally over a millennium after achieving said purpose, when it still exists and has hurt people you care about?
And yes to the C2 vs. C1 tie ins. I try to be clear that I'm talking about my (well-informed) opinions here, usually, but like. Objectively, the Campaign 2 tie ins are normal consequences of living in the world of Exandria: the Mighty Nein restored Devexian, and the Cerberus Assembly is fundamentally changed through their actions, which means Ludinus is likely looking for new and more subtle avenues of power that are easier to hide from Caleb and the Cobalt Soul. Or perhaps he was always working on this, and it just didn't come up!
I don't see the aeormatons as any issue for Marquet in the same way that like, Artagan's gate is technically from Tal'Dorei but Jester is from the Menagerie Coast. While they originated from Aeor, we know from Calamity that they existed in other cities. It's very possible that FCG's target had been in, say, Cael Morrow, and that he spent most of his time there. The moon/Feywild stuff is also disconnected, but the center of the conspiracy does appear to be a hero from a major war in Marquet, and the solstice's ley nexus is likely in Marquet too, so it is still tied to the continent.
The Campaign 1 stuff on the other hand is really only here because two characters are from Tal'Dorei with extensive ties to Campaign 1 figures. Again: Fearne isn't from Marquet or even this plane, and Chetney is expressly from Wildemount, but both their stories center on happenings within Marquet, even if their own ties to the continent are new. But the only reason we're talking about the Air Ashari and Whitestone and Delilah is because Orym and Laudna are extended Campaign 1 references. I'd have similar problems, as I said, if someone was a Soltryce Academy student who could call on Caleb whenever they needed help; or if someone was a member of Fjord and Jester's crew. It's not that it's C1 and not C2; it's that it is unavoidably about things already pretty extensively explored in C1 and with direct ties to the PCs of C1. The C2 references are more tangential and Bells Hells is on their own for figuring out what all of this means, and that's interesting; having Keyleth around to solve your problems for you, or "somehow Delilah Briarwood returned" is not.

*gif not mine*
Annie sat back in the chair in the office of Teller Morrow. She took a sip of the tea Chucky had brought her earlier this morning. The hot liquid burned her tongue then her chest as soon as it sloshed out spilling onto her. Cursing she set the cup back down. She grabbed a tissue dabbing her skin until the sting passed. She didn’t know why she was still drinking hot tea in this California heat, force of habit she guessed. She really needed to find a new drink.
The rumbling of the motorcycles pulling into the lot pulled her away from her previous thoughts. She quickly tossed the tissue into the trash bin before standing up.
It was time.
Gemma passed through the office smiling at Annie. “They’re here.” It finally felt like home once again to Gemma. The past 14 months were rough without Clay or Jax or a full clubhouse. There was definitely a change in the atmosphere while most of their men were locked up. “Come on sweetheart, the boys will be eager to meet the new secretary.”
Annie followed after Gemma to greet the guys. What Gemma didn’t know was that Annie already knew one of them. Maybe he wouldn't recognize her or remember her but she recognized him the first time she saw his mugshot up on the wall of the clubhouse. She’d never forget him and she’d never forgive him for how he broke her sister’s heart.
Annie watched him as he took his helmet off before hanging it up. He was immediately pulled into a side hug by Chibs who had the biggest grin on his face. She couldn’t hear what the older scott said but whatever it was made him laugh. It sounded exactly the same as she had remembered.
She almost didn’t notice the handsome blonde man, Gemma’s son she had recognized from pictures, approach her and Gemma. Gemma gave him a big hug before turning him towards her. “Annie this is my son Jackson.”
“You can call me Jax, darlin’.” He grinned looking her up and down.
“I’ve heard lots about you.” She smiled back at him giving him a good once over as well. She had seen plenty of pictures but none of them could compare to seeing him in person. His hair was now shorter, suiting him much better in her opinion than the longer locks she had seen in the photos.
“And I’ve heard not nearly enough about you,” Gemma never told him the new girl was smoking hot.
“If you’re good you just might learn a hell of a lot more.” Annie sent him a wink. What could she say? The man was hot and she wasn’t shy when it came to being flirty.
“Alright kids that’s enough flirting for now.” Gemma teased the two. “You’ve got plenty of time for that later and I think there is someone who is really wanting to see his daddy.”
Just then Neeta came out of the clubhouse with Abel. She laughed as Able broke away from her running into Jax’s arms. Jax scooped him up with the biggest smile on his face holding him close to him.
Annie couldn’t help but feel her heart warm at the sight. She had come to care for the small boy herself while working for TM and from spending time with Gemma.
Gemma was the first person who she and Delilah befriended in their move to Charming. They were currently renting a little place from her just a block away from Gemma’s place. Gemma was actually the one to tell Annie about the opening position at their garage. With Jax being locked up Gemma had less time for working there while becoming Abel’s sole guardian.
Her older sister Delilah had a job at the hospital already but Annie still needed one herself. She wasn’t good with being idle, it gave her too much time to think. The offer was perfect for her. She fit in perfectly and never felt more safe or welcomed than she did with Gemma and the MC.
“See? I told she was hot.” Kozik bragged as he approached with Tig just behind him. He had been talking up Annie to all the guys, bragging about how she would be his date for Opie and Lyla’s upcoming wedding. “And she’s all mine for the night.”
“Yep all yours.” Annie leaned into Kozik’s side as he wrapped his arm around her waist. In the six months she had been working with them she had become closest to the big, goofy, man.
“Nope, still don’t believe it.” Tig shook his head. “Now why would you want to go with him when there are clearly plenty of better options? It’s still not too late to change your mind, doll.”
“You must be Tig.” Annie giggled. “Kozik has told me so much about you.”
“Anything he says, all lies.” Tig made sure to tell her. “You can’t believe a word out of his mouth. Come find me later and we’ll set things straight but for now I have some shit to catch up on.”
“Make it quick,” Clay called out after him. “We got church in ten minutes.”
“Oh it’ll be quick after all that time with no pussy.” Bobby joked before introducing himself to Annie with a hug.
She was then introduced to Happy who just gave her a grunt with a nod of approval before both followed behind Tig into the clubhouse.
The last was Juice walking towards them with Chibs. He was looking down still smiling when Chibs made the introduction. “Juicy boy meet our very lovely Annie.”
Juice looked up to meet the new girl he had been hearing about all day. His smile immediately fell when he saw her. The last time Juice had seen her she was still just a gangly teenager. Now she was everything but that.
“Hey Juan, long time no see.” Annie said.
Chibs and Kozik exchanged a look before looking at Juice. Neither one of them knew anything about Annie knowing their Juice. Chibs remembered catching her looking at their wall of mugshots. Her gaze had landed on Juice so Chibs told her about him and the rest of the guys but he never thought the reason she stopped on the younger Son was because she knew him.
“What are you doing here?” Was the first thing he could think of to say.
“Delilah got a job offer here, I thought I’d come join her on her new adventure.” Annie watched all the thoughts run through Juice’s mind.
“She’s here?”
Just as she figured Juice was still in love with her sister, she could see it in his eyes. “Yeah, small world huh?”
“We’ll let you two kids catch up.” Chibs spoke, excusing him and Kozik feeling as if they weren’t welcome to this little reunion. He looked back once more at the two pausing at the door before disappearing into the clubhouse.
“Does she know I’m here?” He couldn’t help but wonder how she was feeling about all this.
“She knows you’re here.” Annie crossed her arms. Her gaze hardened on him. “I know what you’re thinking but this isn’t some sign or fate or some second chance bullshit. You had your chance with my sister and you gave her up,” she emphasized, “so keep your distance from her, yeah?”
“Delilah is an adult Annie, if she wants to see or talk to me that’s up to her. And we both made that decision to split up.” Juice clarified. Yes he left Queens but she also chose not to join him and together they decided long distance would never work, that splitting up was the best option for both of them.
“Like she had much of a choice?” Annie scoffed, rolling her eyes. “She loved you Juan, more than anything. Of course she wasn’t going to make you stay! Certainly not for herself and not even for the damn baby!”
“Baby?” Juice barely got out as his mind started replaying the moments just before he left and then started running wild with the image of his child.
Annie knew what she was doing. She had him right where she wanted him. “Don’t worry, you’re not a father. She didn’t keep it.” She wanted to hurt him, just like he hurt them.
Juice didn't have the time to fully process what was just said before Tig ducked his head out of the clubhouse yelling out. "Juicy church now! Get your ass in here!"
Juice looked back at Annie once more. He had a million questions he wanted to ask but he knew now wasn't the time. He had church, he had his responsibilities with the club, that had to come first right now.

New Year, New Blog
I’ve always loved writing. And books. But for some reason it took *coughmumble* years of my life to realize that maybe it would be fun to write... about books! What.
Last year I set a goal of reading 50 books. Unfortunately, I didn’t make this goal until about April, and a lot of the books I wanted to read were... uh... rather hefty. So I didn’t quite reach it. Nonetheless, I managed to get through 41. I thought I’d start this blog with a debrief of my 2019 in books-- one book that I liked, one I hated, and one that was just meh. If you are new to this blog (as I am, right now), hopefully this will grant a little insight into the kinds of books you may expect to see reviewed on this new tumblog. So, without further ado...
the GOOD:
The City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty
I know, I know. He’s an ancient supernatural being, she’s a normal young human... we’ve seen this many times before. But Chakraborty’s the Daevabad Trilogy exemplifies a current trend (that I totally love) of mining less common mythologies from all over the world to breathe new life into common setups. Djinn are just one of the variety of mythical creatures you’ll encounter. And frankly, the paranormal romance isn’t the main thread in this book. It’s filled with action, drama, complex characters, and intricate plotting. Through Chakraborty’s descriptions, the magical city of Daevabad brims with enchantment. I reached the final series of twists just as a tornado was literally tearing through my town... and I kept reading by candlelight because I couldn’t put it down! That’s how good it is.
Look forward to my review of the trilogy’s second book, The Kingdom of Copper, in the coming months!
Other GOOD books I read in 2019 that I would 100% recommend (listed in no particular order):
The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield
Catch-22 by Joseph Heller
Circe by Madeline Miller
A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles
A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer
Ready Player One by Ernest Cline
Bad Blood by John Carreyrou
Death Comes for the Archbishop by Willa Cather
the BAD:
Air Awakens by Elise Kova
Apparently this book is popular. I don’t get it. I tried to give it a chance, and did actually finish it, but by the end I just wanted to throw it across the room.
It had many good points-- an interesting world, interesting magic, some almost interesting characters. But then the author proceeds to JUST TOTALLY IGNORE IT ALL and invest all of the pages in the high-school love drama. There are at least 3 love interests for the main character and NONE of them are likeable, least of all the one that we are (apparently) supposed to be rooting for. He’s abusive and mean, and has just about zero redeeming qualities.
And on top of that, the writing is BAD. The dialogue is stilted, the wrong homophone is used instead of the one that’s meant. But the worst, above all, was the frequency with which dialogue tags contained an adverb that either 1) was redundant and therefore unnecessary or 2) directly contradicted whatever it was the character had just said. Ugh.
Other BAD books I read in 2019:
I don’t dislike a lot of books... but The Emperor’s Children by Claire Messud, while not exactly badly written, had some really long tedious tangents and was full of characters I couldn’t stand living lives I couldn’t relate to. Definitely a “skip it” for me.
There were also several books I might have liked except for the fact that the author was so grossly, blatantly sexist. These included Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert Heinlein (which actually went on my Did Not Finish because, EW) and American Shaolin by Matthew Polly (which was actually really enjoyable until the end, when the sexism became way too apparent).
the MEH:
Okay, maybe “meh” isn’t the right name for this category. There were books I read that were generally pretty good, but just had one or two flaws I couldn’t get past. In this category I’d put the Inheritance Cycle (Eragon, Eldest, Brisingr, and Inheritance) by Christopher Paolini, which was in a lot of ways amazing-- a rich world, lots of imaginative creatures and characters, a relatively interesting plot-- but some really questionable characters and plot holes that just held me back from loving it completely.
In this category I’d also put The Map of Salt and Stars by Zeyn Joukhadar, which combined a lot of things I love-- linguistics, maps, mythology, Middle Eastern Culture, and current social events-- and was beautifully written. Unfortunately, I felt it went just a little too far in trying to draw historical parallels, to the point where it risked losing believability.
Other MEHs:
Kill the Farm Boy by Delilah S. Dawson, Keven Hearne
The Death of Mrs. Westaway by Ruth Ware
Na Akua by Clayton Smith
Susannah Morrow by Megan Chance
Believe me, I’d love to give extended reviews of every one of these books, but the year is done, and my TBR awaits! Stay tuned for the books of 2020!

by OnyxSoul
Maline doesn't see herself as anything special. She is average looking, with an adopted mother who loves her dearly. Her brothers all love her. She goes to college to become a linguist. What is left for her? Besides the on and off again boyfriend and her best friend being in rival motorcycle clubs and first semester of college she learned who her birth mother is through her biological uncle. The chaos hasn't even really started yet.
Holding on to life with her college roommate, Delilah, and trying to stay clear of the MC businesses that keep getting her put in danger and trouble, all she wants is to just work, not feel like she isn't worth her boyfriend's time because she's not as pretty as the other girls, and enjoy life. Is that too much to ask?

So, I’m having to read this book, and...
“Nothing in the signs of the times exhibits in stronger relief the fact, that free society is in a state "of dissolution and thaw, "of demoralization and transition, than the stir about women's rights. And yet it is time to work. Northern newspapers are filled with the sufferings of poor widowed needlewomen, and the murders of wives by their husbands. Woman there is in a false position. Be she white, or be she black, she is treated with kindness and humanity in the slaveholding South. In Asia, she ever has been and is now an idol, secluded from the vulgar gaze, and exempted from the hard and coarse labors of man. The Turks and the Chinese imprison her, but worship her. Her veiled face and cramped feet, unfit her for work, condemn her to seclusion, but secure to her protection.
She is a slave, but is idle, honored and caressed. The Romans girded up the toga, when about to engage in labor. If American women wish to participate in the hard labor of men, they are right to curtail the petticoat. Queens wear the longest trains, because they have least occasion to labor. The broom girls of Bavaria have to work hard for a living, and find it necessary to amputate the nether impediments. In France, woman draws the plough and the canal boat. She will be condemned to like labors in America, so soon as her dress, her education and coarse sentiments fit her for such labors. Let her exhibit strength and hardihood, and man, her master, will make her a beast of burden.
So long as she is nervous, fickle, capricious, delicate, diffident and dependent, man will worship and adore her. Her weakness is her strength, and her true art is to cultivate and improve that weakness. Woman naturally shrinks from public gaze, and from the struggle and competition of life. Free society has thrown her into the arena of industrial war, robbed her of the softness of her own sex, without conferring on her the strength of ours. In truth, woman, like children, has but one right, and that is the right to protection. The right to protection involves the obligation to obey. A husband, a lord and master, whom she should love, honor and obey, nature designed for every woman, for the number of males and females is the same. If she be obedient, she is in little danger of mal-treatment;
if she stands upon her rights, is coarse and masculine, man loathes and despises her, and ends by abusing her. Law, however well intended, can do little in her behalf. True womanly art will give her an empire and a sway far greater than she deserves. The best women have been distasteful to men, and unpopular with their own sex, simply for betraying, or seeming to betray, something masculine in their characters. Catherine Parr, Miss Edgeworth, Mrs. Fry, Miss Martineau, and Madame De Stael, are not loveable characters. On the other hand, men have adored the worst women, merely for their feminine charms and arts. Rhodope and Aspasia, Delilah, Cleopatra, Mary Stuart, Ninon D'Enclos, Maria Antoinette, Herodias and Lola Montez, ruled men as they pleased, by the exercise of all the charms, and more than the wiles and weakness of their sex.
Mrs. Stowe, in the characters of Aunt Phebe and Mrs. St. Clair, beautifully illustrates and enforces this idea. Bad as Mrs. St. Clair is, we feel that we might love her, but good Aunt Phebe is a she-man, continually boring and elbowing us with her rectangular virtues. Yet Mrs. Stowe would have women preach. If she sets them to preaching to-day, we men will put them to the plough to-morrow. Women would do well to disguise strength of mind or body, if they possess it, if they would retain their empire.”
So. This was in a book from a pro slavery guy I’m reading, and...well. Amazing how they just straight out admitted it. Every group besides white rich men he had the same opinion about: Listen to what you’re told and you’ll be taken care of and happy.
They were literally using this as a justification of black slavery by pointing out other oppressed classes on why they are better off being “taken care of” by others instead of acting on their own will. It was a little over two hundred years ago...why do minority groups hear the same thing still. I had to laugh at the category he put Cleopatra in, though.

oooooh! what about the team is a team of bank robbers au??
Bank robber AU! How exciting! I also once tried to plan out a “all the NCIS ladies are an assassination team and Jenny was their handler” but since I’m useless, it never happened. Instead you get this, which you asked for.
1. Over the course of the illustrious career of this team of robbers, they’ve had several handlers, the ones who keep them away from the feds and the ones who pick the targets- first their was Tom Morrow, and then Jenny, and now Leon (whom they probably have the greatest respect for)
2. McGee, Abby and Delilah (I can count her as a member of the team right) are the skilled hackers who take on every security measure they can (and they’re a skilled team)
3. Abby is also the one who knows how to get into the vault/ the bank without leaving forensic evidence and she instructs the rest of the team accordingly. Gibbs would probably just walk in and do it… he doesn’t have time to deal with forensics.
4. The team that actually does the robbery is essentially Kate, Tony, Ziva, and Gibbs. And if it wasn’t hard for the four of them, all of them have to keep denying chemistry that’s there (Tony/Ziva, Kate/Ziva, Kate/Gibbs) because Gibbs is very strict about working together like this. It eventually doesn’t matter anywhere.
5. As the different team members come and go, they still stay a tightly-knit heist crew, even though pretty much all of them are useless with emotions, they’re still a family.
Because heist AU! And basically lawlessness which is funny because of how borderline they are on the actual show. I kind of focused on Ziva and Kate as team members and added Delilah, but I know that Ellie, Nick, Reeves and Alex would all probably be great contributors to a team too… especially Nick.
~ Send me an AU and I’ll give you 5 headcanons for that AU ~

Listen, New Orleans is my favorite city in the world. I’ve opined so many times on this blog about how different the culture is in the city. I swear every corner has some kind of historical significance and it’s like I’m in a alternate world. The people are so friendly and welcoming it’s like I’ve known them forever. This trip was different than the last. This time, Robert and I went on a road trip with our friends Richard and Delilah. I’d never driven to that part of Florida or even out of the state in that direction. We left early in the morning and it was insane how quickly we got to Louisiana once we were out of Florida. Would I do a road trip to New Orleans again? Yes.
This trip wasn’t the typical “tourist” excursion. We stayed in an Airbnb in the Gentilly area so we were right with the people. The trip may be the most authentic one I’ve been on in a long time. This is how to spend Labor Day weekend in New Orleans:
Where to Go
Studio BE
Located in a warehouse in the Bywater area of town, Studio BE combines visuals of the Civil Rights and Black Lives Matter movements. The first time I heard about it was in a video I watched about Essence Fest a few years ago. The visuals include paintings, murals, and videos. Studio BE is a great way to see another side of New Orleans that isn’t touristy or “fun”. Everything is thought provoking and conjures up emotional responses. While the city has a party-vibe, it’s not exempt from the way many of the Black residents have been treated over the years.
Audubon Butterfly and Insectarium
Bugs are everywhere you look in Florida. Ants, spiders, bees, etc. fly among us. I’m a big kid on the inside and I enjoy museums of any kind so the insectarium is right up my alley. It’s interesting to see all the different bugs of the world in one place. The creepiest ones were definitely the roaches naturally. They had hissing cockroaches and they were so large; I wouldn’t want to be there if they ever got loose. The most fun part was the butterfly garden because they’d fly around in their own little world. The butterflies do land on people but none landed on me *sad face*. I’m not sure how many species were in the garden but they were all so pretty and delicate.
Where to Eat
Cafe Du Monde
Enough said. A trip to New Orleans isn’t an actual trip if you don’t make it here at some point. Who doesn’t like fried dough covered with an entire cloud of powdered sugar. I felt like I let the city down the first time we went because I only ate 2/3 of an order but we all went back the next day. Robert and I just shared an order of beignets that was enough for me to feel like I made up with the people of New Orleans.
Mother’s Restaurant
We literally drove from Tampa straight here. Robert managed to find a parking space right outside the restaurant. The moment we walk in, it’s started to get crowded but we managed to find a seat near their bar area. I ordered Shrimp Creole with cheese grits and it was INSANE. Y’all…those grits were so creamy I wanted to take a whole bowl of it home. Usually etoufee has a crazy kick of spice to it but this one has a subtle kick that I can get used to. NOLA is the only place in the world where the combo of shrimp, veggies, and grits go together perfectly and no one questions it.
Morrow’s
I’d been following this restaurant for a couple years now and with each photo of a new dish or the latest celeb to make an appearance, I couldn’t wait to get there. We took a quick Uber ride there where a line started to grow the moment we pulled up. I’m sure I mentioned a few times it has the same vibes as 7th + Grove in Ybor. The mimosas were flowing and everyone was just having a great time. My sweet potato Pancakes were the fluffiest ones I’ve ever had in life I swear; they’re really like eating clouds. I don’t remember the last time I had sweet potato pancakes but these were insanely impressive. Plus, when is bacon never not a good idea for any meal???
Pizza Delicious
Our Uber driver who took us to Morrow’s recommended this one to us. After walking around all day, we went back to our AirBnb for a bit for a quick recharge before deciding to eat dinner here for the last night we were in town. Fortunately for us, Pizza Delicious was a 15 minute walk from Parleaux. It’s funny how much this place feels like it could be a local pizza joint in Seminole HeightsI had a slice of Peppadew and Arugula with a regular pepperoni.
Tropical Isle
There’s so many locations of Tropical Isle in the French Quarter around Bourbon Street, you’re bound to walk in on one at some point. THE drink to get is, of course, the Grenade (the official unofficial drink of NOLA) but the Horny Gator is a fun drink to taste. It’s mixed with vodka, pomegranate and green tea so you’ll be feeling real good after you’re done drinking it. For me, the drink and the little gator are perfect homages to Florida.
Brieux Carre
I appreciate the play on “Vieux Carre” aka the French Quarter. It’s a small, quaint microbrewery in the Marigny area with a biergarten in the back. There’s a deck with a few games for people to play and just hang out. Beer is becoming an acquired taste of mine; I prefer them sweeter. Robert got a flight of beers while I sipped on a frozen drink. The interesting part of the brewery is seeing the brew process up close. Their fermenters are next to the bar for everyone to see so it feels like a crash-course in brewing.
Parleaux Beer Lab
During our Uber ride here, there were a couple times our driver looked at us crazy because she thought we were going to New Orleans East where stuff pops off. She relaxed when we told her where we were really going. We pulled up around 8pm and it was packed. Robert and I shared their Prosecceaux di Pesca-Tart Peach Ale and it’s right up my alley. It’s supposed to taste similar to a Bellini so I can see myself ordering this as a brunch drink.
NOLA Po’Boys
A fave from the first time Robert and I came, we stopped here during one of our jaunts on Bourbon at night. Of course, we planned on doing some drankin so it’s best we filled our stomachs with food to soak up the liquor. What’s great about their po’ boy sandwiches are they’re large enough to share. The fried foods are all spicy but I know the “spicy” in New Orleans is on another level. The “Yankee”(mild) is right in the middle. As I’m writing this, memories of eating it are flooding back in and now I wish I was there eating it again *heavy sigh*.
New Orleans Cake Cafe and Bakery
The great thing about NOLA is it’s super walkable. Delilah wanted to go to the bakery so we walked 10 minutes from Morrow’s.  The houses in the area are so unique and historic it’s easy to marvel at them all. Robert and I came here for breakfast our first trip to the city. We wanted to grab a slice of King Cake but they didn’t have any available since it wasn’t Mardi Gras. I settled on a donut with a honey glaze and chocolate ganache. It’s gooey and messy…2 of my favorite things about desserts or baked goodies. Would I order it again…YES. It’s just the right size where it doesn’t feel like an overindulgence.

Did a little 9-hour road trip to New Orleans earlier this month for a weekend trip Listen, New Orleans is my favorite city in the world. I've opined so many times on this blog about how different the culture is in the city.
