Deltarune Chapter 3 Prediction In chapter 3 we're gonna have a flower character (from the trashbin lol) that everyone expects to be a flowey expy/stand-in who isn't the main villain of the chapter, but it turns out to actually be the FUCKING BUTTERSCOTCH CINNAMON PIE WHO WAS A FLOWEY TYPE CHARACTER THE *WHOLE TIME-* (flowey + chef saltbaker = the creature..)

HOLY CRAP, I JUST REMEMBERED SOMETHING

In Undertale, Frisk could call multiple people. One of the first people they could call was Toriel.

In Undertale, Toriel was basically a tutorial character: she would be your guide on how the world worked in Undertale. Toriel was also her own character, having a serious impact on other characters in the story (such as Sans, Flowey, and Alphys).

Once Frisk leaves the Ruins, however, Toriel stops answering their calls.

Prior to meeting Frisk, several other human children had fallen into the Ruins. All of these children left the Ruins at some point, and ended up dying on their way to the Barrier.

Several humans have fallen into the Underworld in the past, with a majority of them dying to Asgore; these other humans were children. The deaths of these previous children is probably why she never answers Frisk's calls; she doesn't want to get attached to another dead child.

All of this to ask: What if our current theories on Mike's silence are wrong?

What if Mike wasn't cut off from Spamton by Tenna/The Cathode Crew, or killed, or thrown away?

What if he's ignoring Spamton on purpose? We don't know much about Mike, but he doesn't seem involved with the Cathode Crew, based on Fangamer's q&a...

I also noted this when I was talking about this in a Discord server:

TL;DR: Toriel and Mike have connections with phones. Once the character who has the phone does something negative, Toriel and Mike cut those characters off. What if Mike cut off Spamton for similar reasons to Toriel cutting off Frisk?

WHO IS THE SECRET BOSS OF ADVENTURE NO. 3? [Deltarune Speculation]

Been a while since my last little theory image, and with the Newsletter's release and the hidden things in both the SVN and the Valentines Cards, I wanted to make a definitive and new theory about the possible candidates and traits of a SB for CH3! This is all subjective, so don't worry or feel discouraged if your theory isn't accounted for or contradicted!

Re previous ask about the “Gaster” valentine:

The all caps is consistent with both the being that talks to you at the opening of the game, and whoever took over Toby’s Twitter account. (Ignoring kanji stuff I’m not an expert)

This seems pretty solid Gaster evidence to me tbh if you think that Gaster was the person who did the other two things

The all caps was initially a giveaway, yes. However, many characters speak in all caps throughout Deltarune and Undertale so we can't immediately assume it's Gaster. Additionally, take a look at the punctuation and prose used throughout the Valentine compared to the messages from the beginning of Deltarune and other places.

A small summary of the image: Images of the disembodied voice throughout Deltarune (believed to be Gaster) shown to be using correct grammar and serious prose throughout their dialogue. Meanwhile, the secret valentine shows a fairly silly demanor and also signs off with "GOOD BY!", what seems to be an intentional spelling error/typing quirk (In the same vein as previous secret bosses.)

The significance of the figure mentioning "Delta Rune" has also been a factor in attempting to tie it to Gaster, however keep in mind that the "Delta Rune" is a symbol heavily used throughout Undertale and Deltarune, meant to symbolize an ancient legend. The figure is likely aware of the prophecy rather than their inclusion in a game. The grammar certainly makes it seem as if they're referring to the game, however note that this character perhaps doesn't always speak with the best of grammar.

I love the idea of the next Weird Routes in deltarune only being achieved if you purposely abandoned the previous Weird Route the second before it was locked in.

So you abandon snowgrave before killing berdly but right after getting the thorn ring from spamton. And that allows you to break the next chapter even further. And then the next. And the next. Until there's nothing left.

It will not have a satisfying ending. If anything, you will get softlocked. This route is ABOUT our inherent tendency to demand more content from the media you love most, and that very demand is often what brings you to lose your flame. The community does this all the time, AND it's natural, AND that's exactly the point. It's an introspection on our natural tendencies. That's what's so good about it.

DELTARUNE - Debunking the "FRIEND"

Something I've noticed after being in deltarune fandom spaces after Chapter 2 is that there's a pretty big fixation on the "FRIEND", which has always seemed a bit... off, to me? But, based on a few recent findings I feel very confident in saying that the "FRIEND" is, beyond a reasonable doubt, not an actual new character. (Afterthoughts under the read more)

So, here are my afterthoughts:

Calling this a "theory" is a little disingenuous seeing as most of it is just compiled 'objective' information, but I really hope that people begin to understand the nature of the basement smile a little more. This is kind of an image I put together at like 5 AM after a night of theorizing with like 3 people on discord so it might be a little rough around the edges. Obviously the "angry" parts of this were heavily exaggerated for comedic effect, but there are a quite a lot of theories based on the idea of the "FRIEND" being a character that exists, and a... LOT of fanworks, but it kind of just distracts from ACTUAL mysteries in UTDR that could be being solved or at least discussed.

It's a little bizarre looking back and seeing this sort of mythos built around the "FRIEND", stuff like it being a cheshire cat, it being Mike somehow, and it being heavily relevant in the future chapters of deltarune. Stuff like the friend being a "cheshire cat character" or even existing isn't really mentioned at all in deltarune and has quite a fragile basis when you look at it without already assuming it's a character, but people have clung to this idea and projected these ideas onto official content (cough cough mystery letter) to the point where I think the future chapter releases are going to be very jarring for people who EXPECT an answer to a mystery that doesn't really exist.

Anyways, I'm not too good at ending these things but I'll cut off my ramblings here.

anyone else notice how Deltarune seems to be getting more advanced each chapter, diegetically?

chapter 2 introduces the Recruits system, and updates save points to show all 3 slots in-game. chapter 1 was not retroactively updated to include the feature - it's an in-universe change. (although i believe chapter 1 npcs are automatically recruited once the system is introduced.)

and is it just me, or does it almost sound like the soundtrack is getting more advanced, too?

chapter 1's soundtrack was almost all soundfonts, chiptune, more retro synths, etc. - and the same goes for chapter 2, mostly. (mostly except for Susie, notably. her and her maybe-synth, maybe-live distorted guitars.)

we don't have much to work with, so this may not be anything worth mentioning, but the three songs for chapter 3-5 we've gotten sound noticeably more "real," i'd say?

"Hometown Day" is definitely the least notable of the three in terms of this, but still sounds relatively "realistic"/live

"My Funky Town" was what gave me this thought in the first place. the more live-sounding guitar in the left ear, something about the drums i can't quite describe accurately, the electric piano being played/recorded live. of course, it's not entirely "live" sounding, notably the saxophone being straight from the Touhou soundfont. but still much more than anything in chapter 1 and most in chapter 2.

"Green Room" is an odd case in general, considering it's pretty much just a remix of "Hip Shop," unlike any other song i can recall. but, yet again, it does sound a lot less "digital," would you agree? more effects on pretty much everything, the spacey drums and electirc pianos, everything.

this may not go anywhere, but i figured it was worth noting. the idea of chapters becoming more and more advanced as each one is added could also definitely be theory-crafting material methinks

okay deltarune fandom! i haven’t posted to or gone through these tags in a while, but in light of recent events (me deciding to replay the games just in time for the newsletter), i have some things to share concerning our friends The Weather.

this message tells us some interesting information about the Weather. for those who don’t know, i believe the Weather were first introduced during the spamton sweepstakes under the link https://deltarune.com/weather/. the page functions similarly to lancer’s. despite having no information on these new characters—other than that they’ll probably appear in the next couple chapters, are called “The Weather,” and always stick together—the deltarune fandom immediately latched onto them, because that’s what we do.

and now, after the newsletter? we have names. do we know which name goes to which sprite….? not really. but there’s something interesting about what those names are.

when i first looked at the names Lanino and Elnina, one of my first thoughts was that they sounded gendered. in english and in romance languages, names ending in -o are often thought to be masculine, whereas names ending in -a are interpreted as feminine. not a common name convention in undertale and deltarune, where most names end in constants or “-ee” sounds, and obviously not an absolute rule — for example, chara is not feminine-presenting, but its name still ends in -a. still, many english-speakers, as well as speakers of romance languages and any other similar languages i’m not thinking of, will see “lanino” and “elnina” and assume masculinity and femininity respectively.

at this point, i was still thinking of romance languages because i’m autistic about words, and noticed that the endings of the names are very similar to the spanish words for boy and girl: niño and niña. then i noticed the beginnings of the names, “la” and “el,” are the spanish words for “the.” funny thing, though? “la” is feminine and “él” is masculine.

so… they’re mixing and matching gendered terms!!!? bigender weather real!!!!!! post over!!!!

…except it’s NOT over. put linguistics aside—it’s time for some environmental science.

this graphic (which has an ID in alt text) is a lot of information, so i’m going to break it down: the earth experiences something called El Niño–Southern Oscillation, or ENSO. it’s a climate phenomenon that consists of two main phases: El Niño and La Niña. each one of these phases is a global event that can last years, and leads to changes in wind patterns, sea surface temperatures, and extreme weather events. it affects everything—how dry the land is in certain places, how many fish can be found in the ocean, etc.

to differentiate between the two, most simply: el niño is the warm phase, and la niña is the cooling phase.

why does this matter, you ask? because el niño and la niña climate events are largely inverse and opposites. that’s a simplification, but it does lend us some potential insight into the weather’s devoted and apparently monogamous relationship dynamic. or it would, if they hadn’t mixed up their names… but hey, that’s food for thought too!! could it be that the weather is so devoted to each other that they blended together? maybe that’s why their color palettes are the same—they balance each other out!

either way, i’m quite excited to do battle with them in the next year or so. they’re going to have such fun bullet patterns, i just know it… i hope they heal each other with photorealistic milk. or something weather-related, idk.

THE TENNA SUPERTHEORY!!!

Have you ever wanted to go crazy about a character we know next to nothing about?!

Well the lovely folks over at VISION CREW DISCORD SERVER thought the EXACT same thing, and using "new incredible breakthrough in science" have devised a new theory about Tenna, and also by some extension, Mike. This theory also helps explain how Spamton went under, Mike and Tenna's potential motivations and the kinds of characters they might be!! Credits list all the folks who helped significantly, but this was a huge team effort in our server!

DELTARUNE: MOTU PATLU THEORY

THATS RIGHT BABY!! IM BACK WITH THE THEORIES!! I couldn’t just stop at chapter… I dunno six! Yeah, I may have solved the Susies Inside chapter, but what about Chapter 3?? Well I got news for you guys…

Motu. And Patlu. Never heard of them? What are you, living under a rock or something… well… it’s a Hindi cartoon that’s really popular overseas… but wait. That’s the POINT! Your not SUPPOSED to know it… because it’s discarded…

So Every secret boss so far has a habit of being a darkner based on discarded/Forgotten/Unwanted items… well. How many people in the states know this cartoon? Not very many,,, even though it’s great… so could Motu and Patlu be what the next secret boss is based off of? Let’s see gamers…

EVIDENCE ONE: BIG GUY SKINNY GUY

Comedy duos, you know them, you love them. Woody, Buzz. Mario, Luigi. Bob, Larry. But what does this have to do with Motu and Patlu… erm guys… notice anything about most of them?! Mario, Buzz, Bob, and Motu: bulky big guys. Luigi, Larry, Woody, and Patlu: tall, thin guys… oh my goodness!! Motu and patlu ALSO fit that theme… “But how does this fit in with Deltarune chapter 3?!” Your asking… oh my gosh guys this is too easy!!

erm… Sans and Papyrus, the most iconic comedy duo next to none, is also bulky and thin. Guys?? Notice anything?? I think THIS proves that they’ll use blue soul… and that they’ll be cannon!! But need more proof?? SAY NO MORE:

On the left is Sans and Papyrus’s House, and on the right is Motu and Palau’s. Notice the similarity’s?? I do…

Maybe the Motu and Patlu secret boss could be a duo, and make fun of the whole trope of smart guy who does all the work and lazy dumb guy… hrm…

EVIDENCE TWO: CHARACTER SIMILARITIES!

Okay so we already talked about how Sans and Motu and Papyrus and Patlu are BASICALLY the same guy, but if your STILL not convinced, I got more…

Rook. Mike. Whatever there gonna be, the main boss of Chapter 3 seems to be a cheater, a criminal of sorts… well… hehee… you know who ELSE is a criminal?? JHON THE DON. That’s RIGHT. The TRUE and NEO villain of Motu and Patlu, who’s the son of motu and patlu’s town. He’s always causing trouble with his lackeys around… could this mean that chapter 3’s main boss is based on the Villian of Motu and Patlu, while the secret boss is the good guys…?! No… no… erm… YES! It’s kind of OBVIOUS??

My theory is the main boss is gonna be Mike, now dubbed “The Don.” He must’ve not only backstabbed Soamton, but the chapter three secret boss… and Tenna will be… I dunno… probably his own character.

Anyways, Gaster. “Gaster? This crazy guy who does bad things?” You may be asking what GASTER has to do with this theory… heh… well, gaster in undertale was the Royal Scientist, right? Well… erm… somebody pull up Motu Patlu Wiki!

He’s a SCIENTIST… who doesn’t treat his PATIENTS well… sounds familiar…

Dr. Jhakta also uses Motu and Patlu as Guinea Pigs for his work. Gaster uses darkners and does stuff that’s evil… or whatever. I think. I dunno BUT THE POINT IS GASTER MUST'VE LIKE EXPERIMENTED ON THE SECRET BOSS WHICH CAUSED THEM TO GO INSANE!! Erm…!!! Yes!!

FINAL PART: WHAT OBJECT ARE THEY

So at first I thought they could be like a bootleg DVD or whatever. But wait guys… remember where the chapters dark world is…

And then think about what Motu is known for. Dumb… lazy… but also, when he eats his favorite FOOD he gets super STRONG… wait. FOOD?! Guys what’s in houses? Kitchens… guys… what’s motus favorite food…??

I’m going to start doing a project like what @creepa-b0t-inc does and make a secret boss for EVERY location in hometown. First up, MICHAEL SPEROUR! Based on a bunch of fan theory’s, once a prolific video game protagonist, he lost everything after he lost his player. Now, his only company is his parasitic player “FRIEND”.
