This is my piece for the Supernatural Demine Ukraine Art Raffle, organized by @sailorsallyarty & @lamiasage. My winning bidder, Kasey, mentioned a Dean/Cas first meeting as one of their potential ideas, and so Castiel raising Dean from Hell was what immediately came to mind. It's not something I've had much chance to draw and paint before, and I immediately found myself thinking about Michelangelo's Rodanini Pietà, which I just had the chance to visit and see in person earlier this summer. I immediately filed it away in my memory banks for inspiration for one of my own pieces, and now, here it is.

I wanted to try to embrace the rough/unfinished nature of the sculpture in painting this, to suggest Dean's soul and body not fully healed or recreated just yet. Castiel is also not fully in his vessel here but I wanted to go loud and bright with the blue of his grace and wings against the rough flames of Hell.

I want to get on board with Misha's fundraising efforts to demine Ukraine so I'm putting three of my Castiels up for auction.

Each one is 18 by 24cm, in soft pastel on sturdy 360gsm pastel card. I will also cover postage costs. Normally I ask £80 for this size, so you could get yourself a bargain, although hopefully not too much of a bargain or I won't raise much!

I never thought this would reach so many people or do so much good. To see where this little idea started to where it ended up I'm just in shock. I'm sitting in my hotel room crying for Jennifer May Nickel, For Oksana , For Ukraine, For the amount of kindness people have shown and spread...to see Misha Collins (Happy Birthday!) on stage with the flag I gave him this morning (he and Jennifer are also matching donations on all the flags I hid) is so surreal.
