hero/villain showdown but one of them has a spontaneous medical emergency and the battle gets put on hold while their archnemesis drives them to Urgent Care
#it should be like. a hernia. or diverticulitis#something intestinal for maximum Awkward Scenario#and the entire car ride alternates between awkward silence and the driver lecturing their nemesis on the importance of regular check-ups#this is funnier if the hero is the one having the hernia tbh. but both options are Very Good#want to emphasize that it is a 'medical emergency ' that is clearly not extreme enough for the emergency room#and the sidekick/henchperson gets stuck in traffic so the hero/villain stays for moral support#they spend 8 hours in the waiting room playing Uno (it devolves into a screaming match)#at the end of the ordeal one of them vows to burn the hospital to the ground with their laser eye powers#and it's Not The One You Think#oh oh oh! ALTERNATIVELY:#it's an allergic reaction; one of them accidentally poisoned the other by using like. soybean derivative in a tranquilizer dart#emphasis on *accidentally*. yes they were technically fighting but That Wasn't Supposed To Happen#so now they're obligated to take responsibility and Stay In The Waiting Room#(can't decide if it's funnier if it's the hero or the villain stuck in this situation)#(probably the villain)#“why didn't you TELL me you were allergic to soybeans???”#“um because you would use it against me in combat?”#“as opposed to NOT telling me! which has worked out fantastic for you!!!”#villain being genuinely offended bc they have a biochemistry degree and have invented literally dozens of untraceable poisons#they have the scientific skill to poison their favorite jackass in hundreds of ways#(and have done so before! in admittedly non-fatal outcomes but that was by design okay)#but it's “dangerous” to do them the simple curtesy of informing them about a SOY ALLERGY????#above all else they consider themself a scientist#and they're LIVID that their favorite (reluctant) test subject lied about their medical history#“technically i didn't LIE--#“I read you the questionnaire! the very first time i held u hostage i READ YOU THE QUESTIONNAIRE!!!”#“...the what now”#“the MEDI--holy shit you weren't even paying attention were you#i had you bound and gagged over an ACTUAL BUBBLING ACID PIT and you couldn't even be bothered to--#“--so i was obviously a bit BUSY at that moment! I'm sorry i ignored your VILLAINOUS MONOLOGUING while the BLOOD WAS RUSHING TO MY HEAD but

request: "What do your bishops look like and how does the lamb think of them?"
I haven’t decided (or started) on designs yet. As for my lambs opinion, they process everything through humour, I would say this is their surface level opinion on the bishops. There’s obviously the deeper-seated issues they have w them tho.

We all know about magical fatigue as a whump trope for magical overuse. Now I raise you: Magical euphoria.
Magic that feels good to use. It leaves the user dizzy and lightheaded, a giddy energy rushing through their entire body. It's enough to leave the most stoic whumpee giggling madly, to make the most obedient soldier go rogue. It's a power that ultimately, inevitably, controls its user.
Mages aren’t trusted to act on their own. They can’t be, not when each spell costs them their sanity. Not when, in a daze of manic joy, they’re just as liable to destroy the enemy as their allies.
And so they need a handler.
Imagine Caretaker in this situation. Forced to watch Whumpee throw themselves into madness, to turn themselves into an unthinking weapon under the demand of some uncaring general. Having to put aside their affection for Whumpee as a person, and analyze them as a tool.
It’s Caretaker who decides when Whumpee is still fit for battle. It’s caretaker who has to look into their dazed and distant eyes, blood dripping into a too wide smile, and decide if Whumpee has anything else to give.
It’s Caretaker who decides when they’re too far gone, when Whumpee needs to stop. And if Whumpee can’t, it’s Caretaker’s job to make them stop. Even if that means using force, even if it means hurting them, because letting them run wild isn’t an option.
And when the battle’s over, when Whumpee is either led or dragged away to the medical wing, Caretaker’s the only one brave enough to tend to their injuries. They wrap bleeding, scorched fingers without a word, the only sound being Whumpee babbling, mad ramblings. Caretaker knows they won’t remember any of this. They still talk to Whumpee anyway, soft, comforting words they hope will bring Whumpee back faster.
And when whumpee’s eyes finally clear, when their body sags with exhaustion they’re just now able to feel, Caretaker feels nothing but grief, because it’ll start all over again tomorrow.

buck and eddie can't get high together because buck would put on a seahorse documentary and immediately start crying about how they mate for life meanwhile eddie just turns to him and says "if we were seahorses, would you let me get you pregnant?"

Okay okay GREAT take because yes Art’s a fucking snake. But I’d like to expand on this idea that Patrick was blindsided. Because oh man was he BLINDSIDED.
And it wasn’t just due to him underestimating Art. It was down to him not understanding how pissed Art actually was and why.
I know folks think Art’s anger was all righteous and protective in that sick bay. That he told Patrick to gtfo because Tashi was so upset. But I don’t think he’s at all that noble.
No, Tashi’s injury (and the fact Patrick wasn’t there to see it, and the fact their fight had her in high emotion in the first place) was a convenient funnel for Art’s anger. But I want people to consider that the anger was already there. That it HAD been there, simmering under a lid of denial and repression for the entire time they were at Stanford. And I argue it wasn’t about Tashi choosing Patrick. That’s something Art almost expected — has grown to expect over time. That Patrick gets girls.
What he hasn’t grown to expect is Patrick committing to a girl, long term. He hasn’t grown to expect Patrick prioritizing her wants over his own. Which began with Patrick going back on his promise to let Art win the juniors open match (in fact embarrassing tf out of him on that court just for Tashi’s amusement and regard!) and continued with him not wanting to share that they fucked. And keeping their relationship private. And coming to campus just for her. Missing her. Pining after her.
Art sees ALL this. Notices the lengths Patrick seems to go to. Notices Patrick is different about Tashi, with Tashi. That is the thing that shifted, that disturbed their equilibrium.
Am I saying Art wasn’t into Tashi? That he didn’t fairly worship her? No. But what I am saying is that the reason Patrick was blindsided by an Art that is capable of all this is because he’s never MET this Art. Art into a girl, he’s seen. Art, “lit up about something” he’s seen — rarely, but he’s seen it.
But Art as vicious and angry as he was in that nurses room, he has not seen. That Art is foreign to him. Art has never been SO ANGRY before. And I’d argue that isn’t down to the woman he barely knows (who he is certainly deeply infatuated with, but he doesn’t KNOW her, not really) being injured. He doesn’t yet know she’ll never play again. Anger on her behalf, I understand. Anger that dissolves his closest and most important relationship to date?….mmm a little more suspect.
I need people to understand that these boys lived in each others pockets for 7+ years. They grew up and into each other. It’s more than just sharing a bed and moving in tandem and spitting gum in each others palms and wrapping their legs around each other. The intimacy they share is not just physical! It’s emotional and psychological.
They BECAME themselves together.
We’re not given a whole lot of backstory but we’re given enough to know that Art feels close to his grandmother and Patrick. And that’s pretty much it.
He’s weird about sex. He doesn’t date. He doesn’t seem to be all that tight with his parents and he doesn’t seem to have any other friends. And he seems to, with the exception of the girls Patrick fools around with, (who Art calls girlfriends and Patrick clearly thinks of more as fuckbuddies), dominate Patrick’s time and attention. He absolutely takes precedence over them emotionally for Patrick. And it’s evident he likes it that way.
Art isn’t running from Patrick jumping into his arms after their doubles game. He happily shares the double-double bed. He smiles at Patrick’s teasing. And their only point of contention seems to be him going off to Stanford. They are basically in a platonic marriage.
And Tashi didn’t disrupt that because Art knew immediately she was the love of his life. lol He was prepared to leave her party without talking to her again, once Patrick had said it wasn’t worth it. And then he didn’t even think she’d show to the hotel room.
Do I think he was interested? Absolutely. Do I think he had any designs on trying to date her? Absolutely not. He didn’t think it was worth shooting his shot because he put her on a pedestal. He never expected to win her number—he never expected her to choose him. Watching Tashi choose Patrick wouldn’t be anything shocking to his system.
And it wouldn’t disrupt the status quo.
But Patrick choosing Tashi? Game changer. That is where the real betrayal is. And that’s why he screamed at him in the nurses office like a crazy person.
I think Art’s anger was growing exponentially after Patrick beat his ass on that tennis court. Patrick continued to prioritize Tashi at school. And Art continued to feel as if he was being abandoned by the one person who has been his constant for nearly a decade.
Patrick wasn’t there for the injury. Just like he hasn’t been there while Art’s at Stanford. And try as he might to bury it or sublimate his feelings, Art feels deeply betrayed by this.
I can't stop thinking about how during the churro scene, when Art told Patrick he would never do anything to get in the way of his relationship with Tashi, Patrick believed him right away and agreed it wasn't Art's style. Oh, but it was. Art had already been meddling and playing mind games with Tashi, trying to break them up. It was all a lie!
Patrick didn't believe Art was a threat, and told Tashi as much before their fight. It's why Patrick was so shocked (and hurt) when Art told him to go the fuck away. If Art hadn't intervened, I'm pretty sure Patrick would have stayed, or at least, attempted to apologize to Tashi properly. He just didn't realize Art was very much capable of kicking him to the curb to get on Tashi's good graces, and it broke his heart.
This was a side of Art he didn't know, and it completely blindsided him. Patrick underestimated Art's desire for Tashi, and how far he was willing to go to get her, and it cost him their friendship and his girlfriend. Y'all know that popular saying, "If you truly love someone, let them go"? Well, Patrick did.
For 4 whole years and 4 months (March 2007 - July 2011). But he missed them like crazy, had a hole in his heart, the longing was becoming unbearable, he couldn't live without them, and he just had to see them again. So he crashed their practice in Atlanta.

while i do enjoy spike being a bit of a loser i get really annoyed when people lean too into it because like.... this motherfucker killed two slayers almost killed 2 more, knew enough occultism to pick the best spot for dru's wellness and where to find a cure, and found the gem of amara which is some truly indiana jones level illegal archeology. the man is a menace and a simp but he is not stupid nor is he incompetent. if you let him cook he can take out a city block with a car bomb.

so many twists in this show but my new favourite is them setting cobel up as such a complete and utter freak for a season and a half only for this episode to reveal she's actually SHOCKINGLY WELL ADJUSTED for what she's been through
