I know it's a simple matter of simply moving a colony of bees into a hive box, but it always tickles me pink thinking on how Dwarves will just haul 15,772 bees in some kind of unholy BEE ORB.

Dwarf Fortress: Modded Fort
A group of bunnies from a dying clan struck out to make a new life on the desert plains, surrounded by dead and dying settlements in all directions.
Putting "More" bars here to keep the size down.
This is sort of around the first year or so; I wasn't really keeping track.
The temperature is scorching at all times of the year, and water is scarce.
The new outpost: Sensewaste, a farming colony. We keep a flock of sheep, a herd of goats, fields of cotton and prickle berries, and enough buns to tend to it all.
However, when a pair of Cold Ones (dinosaurs from another mod :3) showed up, everyone was on edge. Over the next few months, they slaughtered several sheep and goats, and ended up killing seven buns before we killed them back. A few of the survivors are missing a hand or an arm, and it feels like everything is falling apart.
But we can rebuild.
On a hill, not far from the main settlement building, the buns put up a windmill, before digging out a mausoleum underneath to inter those buns who were killed by the dinosaurs. Some of whom died from injuries sustained while fighting them.

ok so in my recent df 51.08 sessions I learn I had an old raw dump script created around 2018 thus installed in like basically every version of df from 44(?) upwards and decided to go back and scoop the plague bunnies a couple patches ago and make a new entity around collected generated angels( the other angel in this picture is an raw green glass humanoid called art's beings an old raw ripped angel species I had for a long while.)... after doing this I decided to draw the first visitor who shown up to the site of angels created by a goddess focus on blight and disease. said visitor left teaching the bunnies a ribald poetic form used in a very very bad poem.

Riadne: Hero, you cannot launch Tomix out of a catapult!
The Hero: But he WANTS to be launched out of a catapult!
Riadne: You’re not supposed to listen to his terrible ideas! You’re supposed to be more mature and responsible than this!
Tomix, in the catapult: FIRE!
Riadne: NO! Do NOT fire! Izaac, please, back me up here!
Izaac, about to pull the lever: What?

Dwarf Fortress
She Dwarf on my Fortress till i Adventure Mode. Also we need modders in the trenches for DF. Current mods are good but there aren't enough to make me want to go through the workshop for an hour like with CoQ or YOMIH.

A strange thought has entered my head whilst pondering minecart systems in my Fortress today:
How do Dwarfs know what a minecart is?
I've played on saves where the world is brand new (Year 1-50), and all Dwarven technologies and advancements are simply... Known™ to them, from Language to Minecarts to certain cuts of gem.
We can assume that they gained this information from a divine source or an ancestor being in prehistory, but since we don't attain records of such things from worldgen or legends... are all Dwarfs simply encoded with this knowledge from when they exist? Or is it our presence that permits this?
Food for thought, really.

To use Dwarf Therapist or nay?
Personally, I don't but I understand people who do use it. From what I can tell the gap with labour assignments that occured with the pre-50 versions has been narrowed by the UI improvement of v50.xx, which was the main thing people used therapist for.
Tumblr media
(I'm assuming this is about Splintermind's fork of Dwarf Therapist. The original Dwarf Therapist was last updated in 2012)
Got sidetracked there. So advantages to Dwarf Therapist:
Skill use: the spreadsheet format allows to see which dwarves are mos qualified for which jobs. It does this by turning them into numbers making it quick and easy to do. Plus you can centrally con trol labor assignments without having to flip between tabs
Mood regulation: You also get a spreasheet for which needs are goihng unmet. If you want your fortress to be super happy then this is useful for finding where you can get the greatest gains.
Gaydar: It gives you a quick dwarven gaydar
There's a few other things as well. I've never usied it myself. To be fair I'm an on-off user of DFhack so maybe not the best person to go for advice on utilities.
