i know im (checks watch) 4 months late to the party but guys hear me out,
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(rambling & theory under cut)
MASSIVE DISCLAIMER: I have not played either DLC, so all my plot knowledge is secondhand from Bulbapedia. I know that's absolutely insane to say before I present a theory, but I'd rather have the chance to play the DLCs myself before I watch any playthroughs so Bulbapedia summaries are my best bet. So if I've missed some crucial make or break evidence, hopefully you'll understand why! This is just for fun anyways ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
••••••••••
Let's start with Delta & Holon lore. Delta Pokemon are Pokemon mutated by electromagnetic waves from Holon Research Tower, which also causes fully evolved Delta Pokemon to be dual Metal (equiv. to Steel) type. The Holon Research Tower itself utilizes the natural magnetism of the Holon region, as well as a mysterious energy emitted from power spots around the region.
Obviously, that doesn't quite line up with Tera lore. Terastallization was born from crystals made of Terastal energy, which affect nearby Pokemon and cause them to Terastallize. These crystals were unconsciously created by a hibernating Terapagos, a Pokemon made of Terastal energy itself.
But now I'd like to bring your attention to EX Crystal Guardians, which presents us with a remote island inhabited by Delta (plus normal & ☆) Pokemon, far from Holon City but still within the Holon region. This island naturally grows crystals with special powers.
Those powers appear to be able to prevent use of Poke-Powers/Poke-Bodies (equiv. to abilities) (Cessation Crystal), prevent attack damage & effects (Holon Circle, Mysterious Shard), and change energy & Pokemon to Colorless (equiv. to Normal & certain Flying) type (Crystal Beach, Crystal Shard).
Now, Terastallization can also affect abilities (Adaptability & type-changers) and moves (type-changers, plus STAB & base power increases). Most obviously, it can also change Pokemon & move types.
So, I'd like to present my theory that the Holon region's mysterious energy and Terastal energy are one and the same.
I propose the EX Crystal Guardians island has another Terapagos that survived extinction hibernating on it, causing Terastal energy crystals to grow. The Holon region's natural magnetism (and later, the Holon Research Tower's electromagnetism) affects the Terastal energy, forming a unique new energy that gathers across the Holon region in power spots, even where crystals don't grow. This energy affects Pokemon in a different way than normal Terastal energy, and is part of the reason why fully evolved Delta Pokemon are half Metal type, as well as why they don't crystallize or form Tera Jewels.
With this theory, there's also the possibility that the Holon region could be close to Paldea. The set EX Dragon Frontiers introduces more islands to the Holon region, these ones also more distant. Because of this distance, the islands are unaffected by the Holon Research Tower's electronagnetic waves. Despite this, natural Delta Pokemon somehow reside on them.
If those islands were sandwiched (ha) between the Holon and Paldea regions just right, they could be getting just enough Terastal energy from both Terapagos and just enough magnetism from the Holon mainland to affect that Terastal energy, and be able to form natural Delta Pokemon without Terastal energy crystals growing or fully evolved Delta Pokemon becoming half Metal type.
••••••••••
That's pretty much all I have to say! Delta Pokemon are one of my favorite weird little Pokemon variants, even if Terastallization, convergent species, and regional forms likely killed any chance of them coming back. However, Delta Pokemon and EX Crystal Guardians were acknowledged as recently as 2021 in the Celebrations set with a promotional Delta Mimikyu card, so I'll keep holding out some form of hope we'll get to see them again!

Regulating Marijuana Is Better Than a Ban
Tumblr media
House committee bill deserves a green light
A combination of legal loopholes and poor regulation have fueled a budding marijuana market in a state where it’s generally illegal.
How’s that?
Well, the difference between legal hemp and illegal marijuana is just a question of how much THC is in each.
Often, legal hemp businesses are selling what amounts to marijuana.
And that’s to say nothing of synthetic marijuana-like products you can find at the convenience store.
Many of the products you can find on gas station and smoke shop shelves are untested and the health risks they pose are poorly understood.
That’s why it’s understandable that Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick has been on a warpath to get the stuff banned altogether.
But so many hemp businesses have taken root across the state under current law that it would be nearly impossible to enforce such a policy, not to mention that it could carry unintended consequences.
Last year, we argued that “lawmakers can come up with more measured solutions through better regulation of the industry.”
A Texas House committee has done just that, and we urge lawmakers to advance the new version.
Senate Bill 3, filed by Sen. Charles Perry, R-Lubbock, originally took the approach Patrick has favored: a total ban on intoxicating hemp products.
The House State Affairs Committee recently unanimously passed a modified version of the bill that seeks to regulate instead.
In 2019, Texas legalized the farming and commercialization of hemp containing less than 0.3% of delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol or THC, the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana.
But there’s never been serious oversight to ensure manufacturers and sellers follow that rule.
Plus, unregulated THC variants have allowed many sellers to skirt the law.
Texas Monthly last year reported on the easy availability of potent marijuana.
The House version of the bill would make provisions for lab licensing, require testing for THC content and the presence of other harmful chemicals like heavy metals, and add penalties for falsifying tests.
It would ban most forms of smokable hemp products, like vapes, but continue to allow regulated beverages and edible products.
Tinctures would be capped at 2.5 milligrams of THC per one-milliliter serving.
Other consumables would be capped at 10 milligrams per serving.
The House committee version would require that the products be sold by specialty hemp retailers, banning them from gas stations and vape shops.
As with alcohol, counties would be allowed to be “dry” and ban the products from being sold, adding an element of local control.
Taxes on these products would be divvied up.
Half would go to the TABC, a quarter to accredited crime labs and the last quarter to opioid and narcotic law enforcement efforts.
The marijuana industry is one we would prefer not to have, but here we are.
The drug is popular, with 24 states allowing it recreationally and 38 allowing it for medical use.
The House version of SB 3 offers a workable regulatory framework that strikes a balance between a ban and the high Wild West.

CHARACTER ASKS / DEVELOPMENT
full creds to mist-the-wannabe-linguist for these prompts!
answering a few of them got me inspired and i wanted to flesh the rest of them out for toni, aka "nomad" (she/he)...
so here we go!
What was the original thought that led to the creation of this character?
genuinely it was just... playing. ghost recon wildlands! which is the first game of the two (wildlands -> breakpoint). i didn't like the male customization options in the game and i wanted to create someone who had a badass, stern air to them... and that's how toni's appearance came to be!
here's an image from my first playthrough...
Tumblr media
How long was the process before the character reached its final version? (or a version that would be clearly recognizable as the character?)
honestly? within the past year or two. and i think? i picked up gr:breakpoint in 2022 so it’s been a few years! several playthroughs of both games (wildlands being the prequel) and discovering new dialogs/missions/choices has really changed the way toni’s been characterized.
and with adding the whole angle of toni trans canon™ i added in last year… there’s still a lot of characterization i want to tweak! especially since that whole plotpoint happens after the events of breakpoint (which i’m still on the fence of exactly when; do i count episode 1 where walker dies? does it happen after trey stone dies in episode 3? am i including the r6s dlc? who knows!)
but the core of toni’s character has been molded within the past year or two / over the course of 2/3 years!
What was the first thing you decided on, the character's name, appearance, personality or their role in the story?
appearance, given the character creator. role and personality were both kind of given since the character is voiced/there aren't really dialog trees... the last thing was actually the name because afaik there isn't? an official one. ubisoft considers (cis) male!nomad canon... so given his name is anthony... antonia felt right for the (cis) female!nomad.
of course things have since changed and toni is no longer a cis woman, and plus i just like toni more and have always shortened it.
And reverse, which one of the four things did you struggle with the most?
since most of it was given, i'd honestly say something i do struggle with is capturing the personality! it's so... specific, in a good way. there's a lot of concrete development and really the hardest part is contextualizing it outside of the game-specific happenings. how does it translate into civ life? how does it translate interacting with different people? so on and so forth.
How did you choose their name and why? Was it simply based on vibes or is there any specific meaning behind the name? Are the reasons behind their name different in- and out of universe?
see above. antonia was the female equivalent to anthony (canonical name) that i liked, and toni is a nickname for both variants. nomad, the call sign, is also canonical and doesn't vary between the selected gender.
What was the thought process behind their appearance? Did you go mostly for the aesthetic or are there other reasons they look the way they do?
mostly aesthetic, to be completely honest! that said it was also a way for me to integrate some of the canonical lore and kind of expand on it in my own ways.
like, we know nomad goes on tours doing more routine military stuff, and comes from a specific military background (re: selection for Delta Force at 24; three tours with counter-terrorist Task Force 88 before being recruited into the Group for Specialized Tactics (The Ghosts)). so you know... i wanted to encapsulate some of that into the appearance. uniform hair that's shaved down for convenience (is it regulation? probably not-), an older sort of look to show experience, a collection of tattoo sleeves because every service member i've met has a fuck ton of tats, and then the scarring from one of said tours.
What is an aspect of their appearance that you like the most?
toni’s face, and more specifically: the scarring.
speaking about toni’s face in general, i just adore how average of a character you can make using the options available. i’m always in love with character creators that let you make like… non-airbrushed models. and all the rugged textures and discoloration and wrinkling… toni looks exhausted and older and that’s the whole point!! toni’s pushing 50 and has the weight of the world on her back, there is no way he’s going to look like he just walked out of a commercial shoot.
and beyond that, honing in on the facial scarring… i love the texture. i love how it frames her features. i also just love visible scarring on characters because 1) representation and 2) it really does well to tell a story. it’s a visible point of a period in toni’s life that came with a lot of shit, and it resulted in a lot of complicated feelings.
What is the origin of their personality? And let's be honest - how much of it is projecting?
most of it is in-canon dialog... but some of it is absolutely projection. the biggest projections i'd say are the whole trans masc development (something something my desire to see more non-op/older trans folks) and the desire to want to be a present parent versus not being able to due to circumstance.
How big is their role in the story? Do they make a frequent appearance or are they a character with little "screentime" but big influence? Or are they just a favourite background guy?
toni is THE main character. like... yes. in gr: wildlands they have team kingslayer (all of which toni adores and is close friends with; weaver, holt, and midas my beloved boys...) and so she does take a bit more of a neutral role despite being the team leader...
but in gr: breakpoint? she's all alone. weaver's dead, midas is m.i.a, and holt is incapacitated/potentially unable to walk again. (and you can technically have a team and i have kind of written one out since you can customize the teammates, but i imagine they're really background/don't show up until later acts)
What is their main character arc in the story? Where do they start and how do they develop? Do they get a happy ending or is their story a tragic one?
oh man oh man... to avoid explaining literally the entire two games, i'll just focus on breakpoint because that's really where the meat of toni's arc happens i think
because leading up to this, and i've written it out / made a compilation of the flashbacks and such... toni's got a whole arc with walker (another ghost/a close friend/a confidante). and it comes to fruition when it turns out he's betrayed everything they stood for and joined up with some incompetent tech billionaire to create a new world; to plunge it into war and show how archaic things are.
and it is very much not a happy ending by any means. a can of worms has been opened and the only solution is to kill the person she really cared for/thought she had solace in... and that shit hits. it changes toni irreversibly. he's much more bitter after that and really does develop (even more) trust issues. like. sure. the world is saved! but what is left for you at that point? you have nobody. you recover 2/3 friends and end up having to go separate ways anyway... you're truly alone.
Is there any existing character from other media that your character resembles? Was the resemblance intentional or was it a coincidence?
i don't think toni resembles anyone specific, but i will admit i drew inspiration personality wise from black widow/natasha and... uhm. mike ehrmantraut. the former was accidental and the latter was entirely intentional.
Do you have a playlist for the character? What songs do you associate with them and why?
i do have a playlist! i have one for just toni, and one for her/walker as a ship. i'll link both here but the associations i went for are like... dad rock. it's that post that's like "2010s weebs and gym bros" because. yeah! classic, dad rock. lots of like... divorce rock specifically. does that make sense? no.
but seriously! a lot of it is just... the vibe. there are probably a few songs on each playlist i could really elaborate on more but i am simply choosing not to at this time.
Do you have a voice claim for the character? What do you imagine the character sounds like?
nomad does have a voice! again... canonically voiced so i didn't need to think much there. you can hear it in the vid i linked above or in this snippet
tumblr
between the two games, since they changed vas, i personally prefer alix wilton's performance (in breakpoint) and headcanon that as the proper(tm) voice.
Do you have any quotes tied to the character, either from the story itself or from another source that fit them?
i genuinely forget the source of this one but: “ IT’S NOT ENOUGH TO TAKE THEM OUT — WE HAVE TO SEND A MESSAGE. ” (ignore the formatting; it was on a post i made for reference).
Have you ever made a moodboard for them?
i have! i have a pinterest board for toni, plus this little moodboard i made doing a character inspiration meme over on my roleplay blog
Tumblr media
Is there any memes or running jokes associated with the character, both in- and out of universe?
oh yeah. one of them, courtesy of my brother, is the whole idea that nomad is... a cryptid. like bigfoot. untraceable, always leaving destruction in her wake, and can never be caught on film beyond this fucked up blur. and that people will whisper about different things they've witnessed but nothing can ever be confirmed and it's just... funny to us. definitely an out-of-universe concept. mostly.
Are there any motifs or symbols associated with the character? How are they represented, in their design, personality or in some other way?
i'm honestly not sure; i never really thought about it. i wouldn't say there is? but i could be wrong there.
Does the character have other characters connected to them? Do you have a family tree and "offscreen" connections made up for them or do they exist in a vacuum purely for the purpose of the story?
yes! they have a decent web that i actually made specifically for this post so-
Tumblr media
this cuts out regan and sarah, unfortunately, but this is toni's family tree! she's the biological child of samuel fisher and marilyn perryman (nee sutton), stepdaughter of finley. she married kian and had her son, thomas. when she remarried to julien, she had her twin girls amber and jasmine. and thomas is expecting his own child, who they've named sam after... sam.
What is your general favourite thing about the character? What is your least favourite?
favorite thing: her complexity. the way toni views the world is… quite different to how i view it. all in terms of experience, narrative, and general politics (lest we forget ghost recon is a tom clancy game). and so it’s really fun to research things to really try to hone in and understand what her psychology is. but then again that’s my favorite thing about writing/developing any character, so maybe i’m biased JFKLDAJFLSDJFKLASJF
least favorite thing: this is a rough one.. i think politics aside (see: above), my least favorite thing has to be how much of a brain worm character they are. definitely more of a lighthearted/joke answer, but seriously! every media i get into or circle back to, i think of how toni would fit in there. like. i’ve been watching house md. and i’ve started thinking about a side plot where toni is a ‘jane doe’ patient (similar to that air force pilot) because the show does take place around when toni gets the injuries that cause the facial scarring and result in him having to undergo pt. or another recent-ish one– far cry 6 au where toni ends up being a cia contact that comes in courtesy of juan (in place of willis since, he does not make an appearance again 😔; can’t have old men yaoi so we get an old man and his fucked up little gremlin instead)
Bonus question: share any additional thoughts, art, favourite scenes, anything you've been waiting for a chance to ramble about
oh boy. i fear i do not have anything to new show (yet) but i am planning on getting myself a little birthday commish of her and walker perhaps... :}
beyond that i genuinely think i have covered rambling so! this will be the lovely conclusion to the post now methinks. i will leave y'all with some of my fave gifs i've made as a treat for reading everything

There's an extra funky angle to this because, like, the focus areas of a map are the ones where the projection actually approximates an actual proportional view (and, correspondingly, the angles are in fact about right); for the family of projections that Gall-Peters comes from, this happens to occur near a particular latitude known as the "standard parallel". In the Gall-Peters map? The standard parallel is 45°. This is mainly southern Europe and northern USA (plus southern Canada and a bunch of other mostly-less-populated areas around the world). Africa, Latin America, and SE Asia - the areas that it's supposedly "less racist" about - are horribly stretched north to south. Technically this projection might actually be more racist than most others.
(Peters officially defended it in his proposal by referring to areas with a lot of people in them, notably China. In fact most of China's population lives south of that line; then again so does most of the USA's. Extending the strip of "about right" to, say, 20% distortion each side - which is arguably already a lot - it reaches from about 39° to about 50°. In other words, very roughly, Valencia to Luxembourg, Cagliari to Prague, Ankara to Kyiv, Sacramento to Vancouver, Kansas City to Winnipeg, or Baltimore to, um, Sept-Îles, Quebec. ...or, in non-Western areas, Samarqand to Qaragandy, and Beijing to Heihe. The vast majority of China's population lives south of Beijing, at latitudes more like 32° [Shanghai, Sichuan] or even 23° [Pearl River Delta]. Most of the other highly-populated regions around the world are even closer to the equator.)
There's a vague sense in which the Gall-Peters map is "useful" as a world map (the context in which it is, fortunately, mostly used), namely that it does, at least, preserve areas: regions with the same area on the globe would have the same area on the map, though they may be stretched in inconvenient ways to achieve this. But once you start doing close-ups you end up with distortion all over the place that isn't really counteracted by anything. A map of Nigeria in the Gall-Peters projection would be consistently stretched by nearly a factor of two. (Estonia would be the same in a different direction, but there's nowhere near as many people living in Estonia.)
(You might be asking here: the globe is symmetrical, right? What about 39 to 50 degrees south? Yes, that's also well enough covered. This includes Tasmania, most of New Zealand (though not its largest city), and a piece of southern Argentina spanning roughly from Bahía Blanca to Río Gallegos. Other inhabited places in this area - and I'm generously counting year-round scientific stations as "inhabited" - include a section of southern Chile, the archipelago of Tristan da Cunha, and the part of French Southern & Antarctic Lands that isn't in Antarctica. Africa is all too far north.)
...The Mercator projection, of course, approximates a proportional view everywhere, which is why most zoomable online maps just use Mercator (and/or a close variant that's more convenient to calculate), and add a changeable scale label. But it's not (always) the best idea for a world map because it makes polar areas too large, and/or equatorial areas too small, and it is this latter quality that made Peters decry it as "racist".
On the other options mentioned in the post: the Robinson projection is a compromise between different kinds of faithfulness, so (AFAICT) it doesn't actually preserve anything but it tries to get close on as much as it can. Africa turns out to be one of the better-represented regions, but the USA is notably stretched and slanted. Goode Homolosine is trying to get around the problems with Robinson's slanting by cutting the oceans apart. This... somewhat works. IMHO the hardest problem with it is that it's got a name that's really hard to take seriously; it sounds like an old-timey pub or a pirate ship or something.
Speaking of xkcd 977,
Tumblr media
I never actually looked into why this was the punchline, but apparently there’s a lot of history here.
You see, cartographers had been trying to get the general public to stop using the Mercator for years, and mostly just getting ignored.
And then suddenly, Arno Peters comes around and says “use this map I invented or you’re racist” and “I invented this map” (actually invented by cartographer James Gall a century earlier)  and “cartographers are all racists who only use the Mercator” (cartographers had been inventing better projections for well before that; most of the projections in the comic were invented before Peters re-invented Gall’s projection) and “this map preserves distance” (it doesn’t) and “this map preserves angles” (it doesn’t).
And he was saying these things right as social justice was getting popular in the 1970s, so the general public started actually listening to him about how everyone else was racist.
Unsurprisingly, this made cartographers hate him. This escalated into the American Cartography Association and five other cartography organizations publishing a joint statement that actually all rectangular maps were racist, and could you please use a real projection like the Robinson or the Goode Homolosine.
(If you’re wondering, yes, Robinson and Goode were in fact involved in writing the aforementioned joint statement.)

What Are The Delta And Delta Plus Variants And Their Symptoms
What Are The Delta And Delta Plus Variants And Their Symptoms
Nobody was surprised because it also happened with SARS-CoV-2, which causes covid-19. The mutations of viruses are a fact, occurring in almost 100% of cases. They are not usually decisive changes in the virus’s behavior in question, but they affect the ease of spread. They check the advances made to detect and stop them. For example, the vaccines already approved by the World Health Organization…

Does the Witch Doctor in Africa countries make Kabbalistic Pacts with the Devil like in Haitian Voodoo and Jamaican Obeah?
They most certainly do not make Kabbalistic Pacts with the Devil which is a Judeo Christian Islamic concept, which they were not, African priest and priestess doubled as healers both spiritual and physical , they understand there is a duality in nature as in the spiritual worlds one can tap into , eg Horus cannot exist without his polar opposite Set.
Now that said there are areas where both the Christian concepts became entwined with African religious concepts as in the cross roads and Papa Legba.
Because slave owners were worried about potential rebellion, they often separated enslaved people from the same area.
By mixing people from different regions and language groups, they could use the communication barrier to discourage or even prevent revolt. However, many of the deities were similar, and so enslaved people from different parts of Africa soon found commonalities in their spiritual beliefs and practices, which they were forced to keep hidden.
Papa Legba soon found a home in the religious structures of enslaved people in Haiti and the Caribbean, as well as in the American colonies. Author Denise Alvarado says Legba:
...stands at a spiritual crossroads and grants or denies permission to speak with the spirits of Guinee, and is believed to speak all human languages. He is always the first, and the last spirit invoked in any ceremony because his permission is needed for any communication between mortals and the loa—he opens and closes the doorway to the spirit world.
Over time, after African syncretic practices blended with Catholicism in the new world, Legba became associated with several saints, including Saint Peter, Saint Anthony, and Saint Lazarus.
In the Haitian religion of Vodou, Legba is seen as the intermediary between mortal men and the loa, or lwa. The loa are a group of spirits responsible for various aspects of daily life, and they are the children of a supreme creator, Bondye. They are divided into families, such as the Ghede and Ogou, and practitioners develop relationships with them through offerings, petitions, and prayers. Often, Papa Legba is the one who carries these prayers to the loa.
Note the cross roads would later become associated with the devil in this religious synchronism.
Tumblr media

Legba has evolved in numerous ways from his origins in Africa, where he is sometimes viewed as a fertility god or a trickster; he many be depicted as both male and female, sometimes with a large erect phallus. In other areas, he is a protector of children or a healer, and can grant forgiveness for crimes against others. Variants of Legba exist in many places including Brazil, Trinidad, and Cuba.
Papa Legba appears in many forms in New Orleans Voodoo and Haitian Vodou. He is typically depicted as an older man, sometimes wearing a straw hat or old tattered clothing, walking with a cane, and accompanied by a dog. He's associated with the colors black and red.
Legba is strongly associated with crossroads magic, and is referenced in a number of early twentieth-century blues tunes from the area of the Mississippi Delta. Famed bluesman Robert Johnson is said to have met a spirit at the crossroads, and offered him his soul in exchange for musical success. Although eventually the story was twisted to say Johnson met the Devil, musical folklorists believe that tale is rooted in racist ideology; instead, Johnson met Legba at the crossroads, where he had gone seeking guidance and wisdom.
Papa Legba is a master communicator, who is said to speak the languages of all human beings; he then translates petitions and delivers them to the loa. He is a teacher and warrior, but also a trickster deity. Legba is a remover of obstacles, and can be consulted to help find new, positive opportunities, thanks to his ability to open doors and new roads
Tumblr media
Legba represents a West African and Caribbean Voodoo god. This god has many different names depending on the region in which he is worshipped is most commonly known in Haiti as Papa Legba. Papa Legba serves as the guardian of the Poto Mitan--the center of power and support in the home. Additionally, he allows for communication between humans and the spirit world. According to West African Voodoo practices, spirits of the dead are not able to inhabit one's body unless permitted by Papa Legba. The symbol for Legba typically has a red background, one of his representative colors. The symbol includes several keys which signify Legba's control over communications and forms of passage, including locks, gates, and passageways;it also includes a cane, as Papa Legba is generally depicted as an old and feeble man in the Haitian religion. There are many chants to summon Papa Legba, one of which is: Papa Legba, Open the gate for me/Atibon Legba, Open the gate for me/Open the gate for me/Papa that I may pass/When I return I will thank the Lwa.

GYE NYAME - Supremacy of God
Tumblr media
Gye Nyame, meaning “except for God,” symbolizes God’s omnipotence through the knowledge that people should not fear anything except for God. Another interpretation of “except for God” is that no one has seen the beginning of all creations, nor will anyone live to see the end, except for God. Gye Nyame indicates the recognition of the supremacy of God over all beings, and therefore is the one that is feared and revered by all. This is one of the many Adinkra symbols of West Africa, Ghana, and is used by the Akan people in various decorations, clothing, and artwork. Some say that the symbol represents a spiral galaxy, or two hands with different gestures that refer to God being supreme to the simplistic ideals of male and female identifications that are used today. The use of this symbol by the Akan people suggests that the Akan had a highly advanced writing language that transmitted religious and cultural concepts, and also might have had a somewhat extensive knowledge of astronomy, which shows their intellect and indicates that the Akan were a more advanced civilization.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nkisi Sarabanda, symbolizing the signature of the spirit, is a representation of a bakongo cosmogram. This symbol portrays how the Congo-angolan people viewed the interaction between the spiritual and material world, or in other words between the living and the dead;the Congo-angolan people believe that these worlds are inherently intertwined. An Nkisi is a spiritual object used for worship purposes, and have been found in places where enslaved Africans have lived in, such as in the plantation homes. Nkisis show the development of African American culture in how they are essentially African objects, but are constructed through American materials. This also reveals an aspect of the melting pot of African and American culture. Sarabanda just connotes "the highest spirit". Part of the symbol takes the form of a cross, because the Congolese had an inclination towards Christianity. Communication appears to take place at the center of the cross, where the worlds intersect, and it was believed that spirits sat at the center of the sign. The arrows represent the four winds of the universe, and the symbol as a whole resembles the form of a spiral galaxy;this indicates their interest in astronomy and affinity towards nature.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nsoromma, meaning "children of the heavens" or "star," symbolizes the guardianship of God and how he watches over all beings. It is one of the many Adinkra symbols that the Ghanaian people have lived by. The protection of God is constant, like the stars in the universe. The stars also embody light, with the vision of light slicing through darkness as a savior, or protector. The symbol indicates the existence of the spiritual world, in which our ancestors and past families exist and watch over us, creating a feeling of safety and wholeness. Nsoromma expresses the message to live life to its fullest knowing that you are supported and strengthened by God.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Divinity of Mother Earth
Asase Ye Duru—literally meaning “the earth has no weight”—is a symbol that represents power, providence and divinity. The symbol is one of many adinkras, or depictions of important concepts created by the Akan peoples of Ghana. Asase Ye Duru emphasizes the importance of the Earth and its preservation. People must respect and nurture the Earth, and should never act in ways that might directly or indirectly harm the Earth. The significance of the Earth to the people of Ghana is evident in the following proverbs: Tumi nyina ne asase, meaning All power emanates from the earth; and Asase ye duru sen epo, meaning The earth is heavier than the sea. The African Burial Ground honors these principles, as it surrounds itself with natural resources and emphasizes the cohesion of death and nature.

The Weekend Warrior 10/1/21: VENOM: LET THERE BE CARNAGE, THE ADDAMS FAMILY II, THE MANY SAINTS OF NEWARK, TITANE, MAYDAY, THE JESUS MUSIC
Yeah, so I haven’t had the time over the past couple weeks to write a column, and I kind of hate that fact, especially since I’m coming up on a pretty major milestone for me writing a weekly box office column and reviewing movies. In fact, that milestone comes next week! And once again, I’m struggling to get through the movies I was hoping to watch and write about this week, because I’ve been out of town and once again, very busy over the weekend. Let’s see how far I get...
Before we get to this week’s wide releases, I’m excited to say that my local arthouse movie theater, The Metrograph, is finally reopening for in-person screenings, and they’re kicking things off with a 4k restoration of Andrez Zulawski’s 1981 thriller, Possession, starring Sam Neill and Isabell Adjani, who won a Best Actress prize at Cannes for her performance in the film. I actually saw this at the Metrograph a few years back, and Metrograph Pictures, the distribution arm of the company is now distributing the 4k restoration. There’s a lot of exciting things ahead at Metrograph, including an upcoming four-film Clint Eastwood retrospective, including White Hunter, Black Heart (1990) and A Perfect World (1991) this Friday. Also, Lingua Franca director Isabel Sandoval will be showing her fantastic film from 2020 (a rare chance to see it in a theater and I’ll be there!) as well as program a number of other favorites of hers. Sunday will have screenings of Ingmar Berman’s Scenes from a Marriage (1973) in its full four plus hour glory, Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park (1993) and John Carpenter’s In the Mouth of Madness (1994).. In other words, the Metrograph is back!
Tumblr media
Moving over to the weekend’s three wide releases, the first one up being Sony’s VENOM: LET THERE BE CARNAGE (Sony Pictures) with Tom Hardy returning as Eddie Brock aka Venom, joined by Woody Harrelson as the psychotic symbiote, Carnage. Taking over the directing reins is Andy Serkis, who has only directed two other movies, Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle and Breathe, but as an actor, he’s been heavily involved with the CG VFX (and performance capture) needed to bring the characters in this Marvel anti-hero movie to life.
Venom has been one of Spider-Man’s most popular villains and sometimes allies for quite a few decades now, starting out life as a cool black costume Spider-Man found on a strange planet during the first “Secret Wars,” which turned out to be an alien symbiote that had malicious intentions. Spider-Man got the costume off of him but it then linked up with Eddie Brock, a sad-sack journalist whose emotions drove the alien symbiote to become the Venom we known and (mostly) love, thanks to one Todd McFarlane. Venom continued to play a large part in the Spider-Man books before getting his own comics, and not before a super-villain was created for him in Cletus Kasady, a vicious serial killer whose infection by the symbiote turns him into Carnage. And that’s who Harrelson is playing.
Being a sequel, we do have some basis to go on, although the original Venom movie, released in early October 2018, also arrived at a time when it was only the second time the character of Venom was brought to the big screen -- the first time being Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3, in which the character was received without much love as Ryan Reynold’s Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. And yet, Venom did great, opening with $80.2 million and grossing $213 million domestically, which is more than enough to greenlight a sequel. (It made over double that amount overseas, too.) For comparison, the Wolverine prequel opened with $85 million but at the beginning of summer, so it quickly tailed away with other movies coming out after it. Venom: Let There Be Carnage has to worry about the new James Bond opening a week later, so it very likely could be a one-and-done, opening decently but quickly dropping down as other big movies are released in October (basically one a week).
I’ve already seen the movie, and by the time you read this, reviews will already be up --including my own at Below the Line. Social media reactions seem to not be so bad though, so maybe it’ll get better reviews than its predecessor, which was trashed by critics, receiving only a 30% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. But if you look at the fan ratings, they’re higher with 81%, although it’s hard not to be
I’m thinking that bearing COVID in mind and the law of depreciation since the previous movie, Venom: Let There Be Carnage will probably be good for around $50 million this weekend, maybe a little more, but however it’s received, I expect it to drop significantly next week, though a total domestic gross of $135 to 140 million seems reasonable.
Tumblr media
Another strong sequel to kick off October is the animated THE ADDAMS FAMILY II (MGM), which is following up the 2019 hit for MGM/UA Releasing with most of the voice cast returning, including Oscar Isaac, Charlize Theron, Chloe Grace Moretz, and Finn Wolfhard, as well as Nick Kroll, Snoop Dogg, Martin Short, Catherine O’Hara, and Bette Midler voicing the popular characters from the New Yorker cartoons, a popular ‘60s TV series, and two Barry Sonnenfeld movies from the ‘90s.
The 2019 animated film was a pretty solid hit for the newly-launched UA Releasing, grossing $100 million domestic after a $30.3 million opening, making it one of MGM’s biggest hits since it was restructured under UA and became its own distributor again. Who knows what’s going to happen with Amazon’s plans on buying MGM and whether the latter will remain a distribution wing, but MGM still has a number of movies out this year that likely will be awards contenders. But that doesn’t mean much for The Addams Family II, which will try to get some of those people who paid to see the original movie in theaters back to see the sequel… and if they’re not going to theaters, MGM is once again offering the movie day-and-date on VOD much like they did with last year’s Bill and Ted Face the Music, which opened much earlier in the pandemic (late august, 2020), so it far fewer options to see it in theaters compared to this animated sequel.
It’s highly doubtful that The Addams Family II was going to open anywhere near to $30 million even if there wasn’t a pandemic, and it wasn’t on VOD just because MGM just doesn’t seem to be marketing the movie as well as its predecessor. You can blame COVID if you want, but it’s also the fact they’re distributing the company’s first James Bond movie in six years, No Time To Die, on their own vs. through another distributor, ala the last few Daniel Craig Bonds. But we’ll talk more about that next week, since that’s going to be an important movie to help cover MGM’s expenses for the rest of 2021. (I haven’t had a chance to see this yet, but it’s embargoed until Friday, so wouldn’t be able to get a review into the column regardless.)
We’ve seen quite a few family hits over the past few months even when the movies were already on streaming/VOD, but parents are probably being a bit more careful with kids back in school, many younger kids still not vaccinated, and the Delta variant still not quite under control. Because of those factors, I think The Addams Family II is more likely to do somewhere between $15 and 18 million its opening weekend, maybe more on the lower side.
Tumblr media
Third up is THE MANY SAINTS OF NEWARK (New Line/WB), David Chase’s prequel to his hit HBO series, The Sopranos, which went off the air in 2004 but still finds fans on the new HBO Max streamer. Ironically, this prequel will air on the streamer at the same time as it's getting a theatrical release, which probably won't be a very tough choice for fans.
Chase has reunited with director Alan Taylor, who won a Primetime Emmy for his work on the show in 2007 before moving onto other popular shows like HBO's Game of Thrones. Taylor has had a bit of a rough career in film, though, having directed Marvel Studios’ sequel, Thor: The Dark World, a movie that wasn't received very well although there were rumors that Taylor butted heads with the producers and maybe didn't even finish the movie. He went on to direct Terminator Genesys, which honestly, I can't remember if it was the worst Terminator movie, but it was pretty bad.
What's interesting is that because this is a prequel set in the '70s and '80s, none of the actors from the show appear on it, but it does star Alessandro Nivola, a great actor in one of his meatiest roles for a studio movie. It also introduces Michael Gandolfini, son of the late James Gandolfini (who played Tony Soprano, if you didn't know), playing the teenage Tony, plus it has great roles for the likes of Jon Bernthal (as Tony's father), Vera Farmiga (playing Tony's mother), Corey Stoll (playing the younger "Junior” Soprano), and Lesile Odom Jr, as the Sopranos key adversary, even though he ends up coming across like the good guy of the movie. It also stars Billy Magnussen, who oddly, also has a key role in next week's No Time to Die.
I'm sure there's quite a bit of interest in seeing where Tony came from and to learn more about his family, many who were dead long before the events of the HBO show, but will that be enough to get them into theaters when they already have HBO? I already reviewed the movie for Below the Line, and reviews are generally positive, which might get people more interested in this prequel.
As with most of Warner Bros’ movies this year, Many Saints will also debut on HBO Max and unlike some of the studio’s other 2021 offerings, it will actually make more sense to watch this one on the streamer since that’s how most people watched The Sopranos. That seems like a killer for Many Saints, and it’s likely to keep it opening under $10 million, where it might have done better on a different weekend (like sometime over the last two weeks).
This is what I have this weekend’s top 10 looking like:
1. Venom: Let There Be Carnage (Sony) - $50.4 million N/A
2. The Addams Family II (MGM/UA Releasing) - $16.5 million N/A
3. The Many Saints of Newark (New Line/WB) - $9 million N/A
4. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (Marvel/Disney) - $7.5 million -44%
5. Dear Evan Hansen (Universal) - $4.1 million -45%
6. Free Guy (20th Century/Disney) - $3.3 million -30%
7. Jungle Cruise (Disney) - $1.1 million -35%
8. Candyman (Universal) - $1.3 million -48%
9. Cry Macho (Warner Bros.) - $1 million -52%
10. Malignant (Warner Bros.) - .7 million -53%
Tumblr media
Opening in select cities is French filmmaker Julia (Raw) Ducournau’s TITANE (Neon), the genre thriller that won this year’s coveted Palme D’Or at the Cannes Film Festival. It stars Agathe Rouselle as a young woman who has an interesting relationship with automobiles, but she also has psychotic tendencies that leaves a trail of bodies behind her. On the run, she decides to pretend she’s the missing son of a fireman (Vincent Lindon), who has been missing for 10 years, and things just get weirder from there.
I honestly wasen’t sure what to expect from this although I do remember walking out of Ducournau’s cannibal movie, Raw, just because it was so gross, even though so many of my colleagues and friends swear by the movie, and this one, for that matter. Sure, there’s a certain “prove it” factor to me watching a movie that wins the Palme D’Or, because it’s very rare that I like the movies that do win that benchmark cinema award.
After a flashback to Agathe’s character Alexia when she was an obstinate young girl kicking the back seat of her father as he’s driving. They crash and she’s forced to get surgery that puts an odd looking piece of metal in her head. Decades later, she seems to be a pseudo-stripper at weird punk rock car show -- I guess they do those things different in France -- and hooking up with a fellow “model” afterwards. Agathe is actually a very popular model/dancer but when one fan gets too grabby, she pulls a knitting needle out of her hair and stabs it through his ear, killing him. Oh, yeah, she then has sex with a car and seemingly gets pregnant, but that only happens later. First, she goes on a bit of a killing spree and then goes on a run and decides that by strapping up her breasts and breaking her nose, she can pass off this fire captain’s son… and it works!
So the second half deals with acting great Vincent Lindon’s absolutely bonkers steroid-addicted man who seems to be sexually attracted to his own son, and most of his fellow firefighters knows that he’s gay but in the closet, but I’m honestly not sure what that matters. He’s a pretty disgusting character whose 70-year-old ass we see way too much of, and even those who might find Rouselle to be quite fetching, there’s a certain point where her nudity is not alluring but quite horrifying.
Oh, and at this time, Alexia (or Adrien, as she’s now going) has also gotten significantly pregnant, but it’s not a normal pregnancy because what should be milk from her breasts seems to some sort of motor oil. That’s because she FUCKED A CAR earlier in the movie!!! What do you expect when you fuck a car and don’t use protection, girlie? The fact Alexia/Adrien is trying to hide the fact she’s a pregnant woman from a station full of men isn’t even particularly disturbing. The part that really got me was when she broke her own nose to pass off as this guy’s son -- I actually had to look away for that part.
Listen I’m no prude, and I think I can handle most things in terms of horror and gore, but Titane just annoyed me, because it felt like Ms Ducournau was doing a lot of what we see more for shock value than to actually drive the story forward. There just doesn’t seem to be much point to any of it, and once the movie gets to the firehouse, and we see her interaction (as a young man) with her “father” and his colleagues, it just gets more grueling.
It’s as if Ducournau had watched a lot of movies by the likes of Cronenberg or David Lynch, or more likely Nicolas Refn or Lars von Trier, and thought, “I could be just as strange and horrific as those men… let’s see what people think of this.” And way too many people fell for it, including the Cannes jury. While I normally would approve of any good body horror movie, especially one with cinematography, score and musical selections as good as this one, I doubt I’d ever want to watch this movie again. And therefore, I don’t think I can recommend this movie to anyone either, at least no one I want to remain my friend.
As far as the movie’s box office, NEON is opening the movie in 562 theaters to build on buzz from various film festivals, including the New York Film Festival earlier this week. I think it should be good for half a million this weekend, although maybe it'll surprise me like NEON's release of Parasite a few years back. I just don't see this getting into the top 10 but maybe just outside it.
And then we have a few more movies that I got screeners for but just couldn’t find the time to watch, but might do so once I finish this verdammt column.
Tumblr media
The faith-based doc THE JESUS MUSIC (Lionsgate) by the Erwin Brothers (I Can Only Imagine, I Still Believe) takes a look at the rise of Christian Contemporary Music through artists like Amy Grant and Stryper and everything in between, featuring lots of interviews of the artists’ trials and triumphs. Even though there isn’t much CCM I ever listen to, I’m still kind of curious about this one, since I generally like music docs and this is guaranteed not to be the sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll of most of them. I have no idea how wide Lionsgate intends to release this but it certainly can be fairly wide, because the Erwins have delivered at least one giant hit for Lionsgate, and I Still Believe may have been another one if not for the pandemic. It actually opened on March 13, just days before movie theaters shut down across the country, so it's little surprise it only made $7 million domestic. That said, the acts in this one have a lot of fans, and if Lionsgate does release The Jesus Music into 1,000 theaters or so (which is very doable), then I would expect it would make between $1 and 2 million, which would be enough to break into the Top 10.
I haven't seen any of the movies based on Anna Todd's YA romance novels but the third of them, AFTER WE FELL, will play in about 1,311 theaters on Thursday i.e. tonight through Fathom Events, and may or may not continue through the weekend. These movies just kind of show up, and again, having not seen any of them, I'm not sure what kind of audience they have, but this one stars Josephine Langford and Hero Fiennes, as well as Stephen Moyer, Mira Sorvino and Arielle Kebbel with Castille Landon directing.
Grace Van Patten (Under the Silver Lake) stars in Karen Cinorre’s action-fantasy film MAYDAY (Magnolia), playing Ana, a young woman who is transported to a “dreamlike and dangerous” coastline where she joins a female army in a never-ending war where women lure men to their deaths. It also stars Mia Goth, Havana Rose Liu, Soko, Théodore Pellerin and Juliette Lewis. It will be in theaters and On Demand this Friday.
The great Tim Blake Nelson stars in Potsy Ponciroli’s action-Western OLD HENRY (Shout! Studios/Hideout) about a widowed farmer and son who take in an injured man with a satchel full of cash only to have to fend off a posse who come after the man, claiming to be the law. Not sure who to trust, the farmer has to use his gun skills to defend his home and the stranger.
The romantic-comedy FALLING FOR FIGARO (IFC Films) is the new movie from Australian filmmaker Ben Lewin (The Sessions), who I’ve interviewed a few times, and he’s a really nice chap. This one stars Danielle Macdonald, Hugh Skinner, and Joanna Lumley, and it will be in theaters and On Demand this Friday. This rom-com is set in the world of opera singing competitions with Macdonald playing Millie, a brilliant young fund manager who decides to chase her dream of being an opera singer in the Scottish Highlands. She begins vocal training lessons with a former opera diva, played by Lumley, where she meets Max, a young man also training for that competition. Could love blossom? This actually sounds like my kind of movie, so I’ll definitely try to watch soon.
The second season of “Welcome to Blumhouse” the horror movie anthology kicks off on Amazon Prime Video on Friday with the first two movies, Maritte Lee Go’s Black as Night (which I’ve seen) and Gigi Saul Guerrero’s Bingo Night (which I haven’t), and actually I’ll have an interview with Ms. Go over at Below the Line possibly later this week. The former stars Ashja Cooper as a teen girl living in Louisiana who has a bad experience with homeless vampires, along with her best friend (Fabrizio Guido).
Also, Antoine Fuqua and Jake Gyllenhaal’s remake of the Danish film THE GUILTY will begin streaming on Netflix starting Friday after premiering at TIFF a few weeks back. I never got around to reviewing it, but it’s pretty good, maybe a little better than the original movie but essentially the same. I’d definitely recommend it if you like Jake, because he’s definitely terrific in it.
Also hitting Netflix this week is Juana Macias' SOUNDS LIKE LOVE (Netflix), a Spanish language romance movie that (guess) I haven't seen!
A few other movies I didn’t get to this week, include:
STOP AND GO (Decal) VAL (Dread) BLUSH (UA Releasing) RUNT (1091 Pictures)
Next week, it’s not time for James Bond, it’s time for James Bond to die… no, wait… there is NO TIME TO DIE! Also, a very, very special anniversary for the Weekend Warrior….

KSP breaks ground on consoles!
As we announced recently, Breaking Ground, the second expansion of Kerbal Space Program Enhanced Edition is coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on December 5th and it will have 100% feature parity with its PC counterpart.
Kerbal Space Program Enhanced Edition: Breaking Ground is all about exploration, experimentation and technological breakthroughs. With this expansion console players will be able to discover mysterious surface features across the moons and planets of the Kerbolar System. Players will also have the ability to collect data with brand new deployable experiments and design complex crafts with the addition of robotic parts.
Deployed Science
This feature will allow you to deploy experiments on the surface of celestial bodies to take measurements over time. You will need to bring these experiments with you, unpack them from storage containers on your craft and set them up to run. In order to do so, you will need to place a central station, one or more power generating devices and possibly a booster antenna to get your science base set up. The experiments and power generators will run better if the right kind of Kerbal sets them up, thus giving you more reasons to bring Kerbals with different professions on an adventure.
Tumblr media
Click here to see the different experiments that will be available in Kerbal Space Program Enhanced Edition: Breaking Ground
Surface Features
Surface features are items of scientific interest scattered across all celestial bodies.  These features include meteorites, craters, mineral formations, and even stranger planetary oddities. Surface features vary in size and Kerbal astronauts will be able to pick up and return the smallest of them to study back at KSC. However, larger specimens will need to be scanned and analyzed on-site by the newly developed Rover Arms. The Rover Arms come in three levels that you unlock via Research and Development, each of which have more sensors and tools that allow you to collect more science from the same surface feature.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Click here to see more images of Surface Features and the Rover Arm in high-res.
Robotics
With Breaking Ground, you will see a number of robotic parts including: hinges, pistons, rotors, rotational servos, propeller blades and turbo-shaft engines. Available in a range of shapes and sizes these new parts operate under realistic physics, with real forces and torques, electricity consumption and even motor mass accounted for.
We are also including a controller part that will let you coordinate the behavior of many different parts on your craft. Use Hinges to provide angles of rotation between two parts. Pistons give you linear motion. Rotors will allow you to generate torque around their axis. Rotational servos will give you precise control of angular position. Propeller Blades and Turbo-shaft Engines will allow you to build helicopters and other blade-propelled contraptions.
The KAL-1000 controller can sequence the actions of all the robotics parts and a number of other fields.  It gives you access to a powerful track editor tool which lets you plan how parts will behave over time. Using this controller, you can set up complex cranes, walking crafts, disco lighting or whatever you can dream up!
Tumblr media

The New Suit
This futuristic-looking suit was designed to match the spirit of Breaking Ground. It not only looks great on Kerbals, but offers customization where players can choose what color the helmet and suit lights will glow when in a darkened environment.
Tumblr media
Click here to see the Suits in high-res.
Free Update for Consoles
Coupled with the Breaking Ground Expansion, Kerbal Space Program Enhanced Edition is getting a FREE content-filled console-optimized update that will bring all improvements, features, color variants and part revamps we’ve added up to PC 1.7.3 to console. These updates include:
Altimeter mode toggle
A long-requested quality-of-life feature that will allow you to toggle the altitude mode from Above Sea Level (ASL) to Above Ground Level (AGL) by simply clicking on the new icon to the altimeter. The KSP Team is optimistic that this will lead to improvements in the KSC’s survival rates…
Tumblr media
Delta-v per Stage and Delta-v Tool App
Plan missions better and find flaws in your ship staging setup with this long requested feature that will let you visualize the Delta-v values along with a range of other technical data for each stage and the vessel overall. Plus, a Delta-v app that will allow you to get the vessel environment for how Delta-v is calculated in the VAB and SPH. Players will find this very useful!
Improved Burn Time information
The  improved burn time indicator will now calculate based on dV and not acceleration. Additionally, it will contain a staging indicator that shows which stages contain the dV needed to complete each part of the maneuver. This will show a red section at the end if there’s not enough dV in the current vessel to complete that maneuver. In the extended mode of the burn time indicator two extra lines are shown, allowing you to adjust how much time you want to spend burning before and after the node during the maneuver as well as showing you a countdown for when you need to start burning fuel to do so.
Tumblr media
Extensions to the Action Group System
Along with those updates we’re also adding two extensions to our action group system. The first one adds another type of action group for controls that lets you bind input controls to fields - an axis group. The second adds Action Sets, which allow you to enable or disable sets of axes or action groups.
This extends what you can do with a limited number of buttons, allowing you to put your craft into different modes of operation. You can even override the base controls with the action set feature, furthering how you can fine tune the interface between you and your craft. We developed these extensions to give players more options to control their robotics, but it certainly will be useful for stock and modded players as well.
Revamped Parts
A large number of parts have been given a fresh new look since the last update. You’ll be pleasantly surprised to find over 40 new part revamps, including the MK2 Lander Can, which like many other parts, includes a new variant for you to choose at will.

Persistence of SARS-CoV-2 #RNA shedding and infectivity in immunized population: Prospective study along different epidemiological periods in Argentina
by Clara Theaux, Yamila Martin, Luciana Montoto Piazza, Gretel Wenk, Guillermo Notaristefano, Laura Miño, María Eugenia Sevilla, Valeria Aprea, Aldana Claps, Mercedes Nabaes Jodar, Dolores Acuña, Melina Salvatori, Laura Álvarez, María Eugenia Langan, Gabriela Turk, Ricardo Del Olmo, Mariana Viegas, Miriam Bruno, Vivian Bokser During the pandemic of COVID-19, numerous waves of infections affected the two hemispheres with different impacts on each country. Throughout these waves, and with the emergence of new variants, health systems and scientists have tried to provide real-time responses to the complex biology of SARS-CoV-2, dealing with different clinical presentations, biological characteristics, and clinical impact of these variants. In this context, knowing the extent period in which an infected individual releases infectious viral particles has important implications for public health. This work aimed to investigate viral #RNA shedding and infectivity of SARS-CoV-2 beyond 10 days after symptom onset (SO). A prospective multicenter study was performed between July/2021 and February/2022 on 116 immunized strategic personnel with COVID-19 diagnosed by RT-qPCR, with asymptomatic (7%), mild (91%) or moderate disease (2%). At the time of diagnosis, 70% had 2 doses of vaccines, 26% had 2 plus a booster, and 4% had one dose. After day 10 from SO, sequential nasopharyngeal swabs were taken to perform RT-qPCR, viral isolation, and S gene sequencing when possible. Viral sequences were obtained in 98 samples: 43% were Delta, 16% Lambda, 15% Gamma, 25% Omicron (BA.1) and 1% Non-VOC/VOI, in accordance with the main circulating variants at each moment. SARS-CoV-2 #RNA was detected 10 days post SO in 57% of the subjects. Omicron was significantly less persistent. Noteworthy, infective viruses could not be isolated in any of the samples. In conclusion, a 10-days isolation period was useful to prevent further infections, and proved valid for the variants studied. Recently, even shorter periods have been applied, as the Omicron variant is prevalent, and worldwide population is largely vaccinated. In the future, facing the possible emergence of new variants and considering immunological status, a return to 10 days may be necessary. https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371%2Fjournal.pone.0285704&utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=tumblr

COULD THE mRNA VACCINE, ITSELF, BE CAUSING CORONA VIRUS INFECTIONS?
CAUSE-AND-EFFECT ASSOCIATIONS OR CORRELATIONS POSSIBLY TRIGGERING THE HIGH MULTIPLICITY-RATE OF "COVID-19 VIRUS VARIANTS" BEING “TRANSFERRED” FROM PERSON TO PERSON!
Leo Emmanuel Lochard
July 24, 2021
(Edited/Copyrighted Material)
NEW APPROACHES TO VACCINES
“mRNA vaccines are a new type of vaccine to protect against infectious diseases. To trigger an immune response, many vaccines put a weakened or inactivated germ into our bodies. Not mRNA vaccines.
Instead, mRNA vaccines TEACH OUR CELLS how to make a protein—or even just a piece of a protein—that triggers an immune response inside our bodies.”
Web Ref: https://cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/different-vaccines/mrna.html
***
“The variants have evolved because the virus has a chance to mutate every time it infects a person and over a 100 million people worldwide have been infected.”
Web Ref: https://cbsnews.com/news/covid-19-coronavirus-variants-60-minutes-2021-03-12/
***
SCIENTIFIC ANALYSIS:
Do mRNA vaccines’ “protein synthesis” replication methods possibly end-result in  triggering "suitable reactions,” that consequently “engineer” a “vehicle of mutability” for channeling incubation conditions yielding “viral variants?”
Though replicate mRNA operational processes do not affect or interact with HUMAN DNA, still, does not emergence of such “suitable conditions,” also signal, that the long duration of the present COVID-19 Pandemic, “embodies” a reliable correlation, between associated bio-chemical developments and “derivative synthetic reactions?”
And could not such “derivative synthetic reactions” be conducive to “cell-surface enzymatic actions” that are possibly accountable for the uncommon frequency or multiplicity of mutational variants?
“For Delta Plus to be a serious concern, scientists would need concrete evidence that it's more transmissible than Delta, causes more severe disease, or resists protection from vaccines to a greater degree. I could imagine that, because the mutation is in the spike [protein], it might have some advantages in terms of immune evasion and some disadvantages in terms of binding to the ACE2 receptor," Read said. That receptor serves as the port of entry for the Corona-Virus.”
Web Ref: https://news.yahoo.com/delta-plus-variant-spread-nearly-231857146.html
CONCLUSIONS:
But, what is the “logic” or “modus operandi” of the Human immunologic stimulus-response system? To “attack” or “neutralize” or “destroy” certain organic or inorganic products or substances, --- e.g., bacteria, viruses, or other forms of pathological toxins NOT generated or metabolized by the Human body’s own native-generic immune system dynamics --- which, the “resident-sentinel cells” of the Human Organism, regard or treat, as “alien pathologic agents.”
However, with mRNA vaccines, we have a contraindication to the body’s normal-regular healthy generic-resident immunologic operations, i.e., “the pathologic agent” is NOT from without. Thus, more poignant, is the fact that our Human immunologic system is triggered against “alien substances or agents” that invade the Human Organism from without, that is, existing externally to the Human Body’s natural-regular-normal generic-resident “initial immunologic conditions of Homeostatic Equilibrium.”
In the case of mRNA vaccines, upon injection, their bio-materials “trick” the Human immune system into INTERNALLY MANUFACTURING parts of the virus, so-called “SPIKE PROTEINS,” sums of which, are “HOME-GROWN ORGANIC TOXINS,” while, at the same time, microbiologists and vaccines manufacturers theorize that, the Human organism will, in return, proceed to “attack’ the “Spike Protein,” that itself, the Human Body, did manufacture via “mRNA trickery.”
HOWEVER, such “INTERNALLY MANUFACTURED SPIKE PROTEIN” is NOT from without, is not external, nor can be “considered” as “alien” to the organism’s immunologic system, given that it’s “home-grown” or “internally generated.”
Consequently: The resultant SPIKE PROTEIN or parts of the Covid-19 virus, ARE INTERNALLY MANUFACTURED PRODUCTS from the Human Body’s own immunological dynamics, meaning that, the Covid-19 virus as a ‘SPIKE PROTEIN,” might not be “recognized” or “treated,” by the body’s generic immunologic stimulus-response system, as “an external alien PATHOLOGIC agent” or “foreign toxic substance” to be “attacked,” “neutralized,” or “destroyed.”

Not only does it not stimulate a proper adversarial immune system response from the Human Body, but, it becomes very highly transmissible to other persons, for whom, it is now, “external,” or “alien,” sums of which, resulting in a particular person’s immune system having to “battle against,” both his or her own internally generated “spike protein variant,” in addition, to the “just acquired,” transferred viral variant he or she might have contracted from other infected people dealing with the same pathologic conditions.
In a free society, such as ours, in the United States of America, it is essential and necessary to ask questions and to pursue appropriate scientific answers pertaining to matters having paramount life or death consequences for Humanity.
In order to combat viral or bacterial infections that appear to be demonstrating “rates of mutational variability” that are quite unusual in their cycles, durations, or frequencies, for engendering disruptive cellular operations that are generating or creating a multiplicity of highly transmissible “viral Variants,” medical prudence, societal safety, and sanitary security, exhort us, to find corresponding medical solutions, geared to defeat such widespread pathologic occurrences marking an uncommonly extended period of time, for person-to-person contraction, contagion incubation, onset of prolonged illness, and egregious or highly unexpected rates of transmissibility, especially during certain pandemics caused by such clearly deadly “pathologic agents,” as the current “COVID-19 Viruses.”
COULD THIS mRNA vaccine MANUFACTURE METHOD BE "ENGINEERING" THE HIGH-MULTIPLICITY RATE OF MUTATIONAL VARIANT, emerging from internally caused “immuno-metabolic” operations or transactions that arise, pursuant to, artificially triggered "enzymatic actions at the surface of cells?”

NEW APPROACHES TO VACCINES
“mRNA vaccines are a new type of vaccine to protect against infectious diseases. To trigger an immune response, many vaccines put a weakened or inactivated germ into our bodies. Not mRNA vaccines.
Instead, mRNA vaccines TEACH OUR CELLS how to make a protein—or even just a piece of a protein—that triggers an immune response inside our bodies.”

“The variants have evolved because the virus has a chance to mutate every time it infects a person and over a 100 million people worldwide have been infected.”

SOLUTION AT Academic Writers Bay Question 1. (This question has three sub-questions: (a), (b) and (c)) a) Sam just won a government lottery. His prize can be taken either in the form of a 20-year ordinary annuity or as a lump sum that is paid immediately. What concept could Sam apply to assist him in choosing between the ordinary annuity or the immediate lump sum? Explain how this analysis will help Sam in making a better decision b) “If a savings account has an APR (annual percentage rate) of 10%, then its EAR (effective annual rate) must be higher than 10%.” Is this statement correct or incorrect? Explain your answer. c) (c) Sam is planning to save up for a trip to Italy in 5 years. He estimates that he will need $20,000 for this trip. Currently, Sam has $5,000 in a savings account paying 3.6% annually. He plans to use his current savings plus what he can save over the next 5 years to finance this trip. How much money should Sam save at the beginning of each year over the next 5 years to finance this trip? Question 2. (This question has two sub-questions: (a) and (b)) (a) Your financial manager is asking you to evaluate the level of market efficiency for the Australian market. After performing some analyses in the Australian market, you believe that you can make abnormally profitable trades by observing that the CEO of a certain company always wears her red suit on days when the company is about to release positive information about itself. Describe which form or forms of market efficiency is/are consistent with your belief. (b) The table below provides the information about two bonds: Bond Par value Term to maturity Coupon rate A $1000 3 years 10% per annum, paid semi-annually B $1000 15 years 10% per annum, paid semi-annually (i) Suppose the market interest rate is 6% per annum for both bonds, without performing any calculations, discuss whether these two bonds should sell at identical prices or if one should be worth more than the other. (ii) Will your answer in Part (i) be different if the market interest rate is 10% per annum for both bonds? Explain. (iii) Suppose the market interest rate is 8% per annum for both bonds, what prices do you obtain for each of these two bonds? Question 3. (This question has three sub-questions: (a), (b) and (c)) (a) Sam is evaluating two shares, Share A and Share B. He finds that the standard deviation of returns for both Share A and Share B is exactly the same. He then makes the following two statements: (i) “It will be indifferent for me to purchase Share A or Share B, as the expected returns for both shares should always be the same.” Do you agree or disagree with this statement? Explain. (ii) “If there is another share that has higher expected return than that of Share A and Share B, then its standard deviation of returns must also be higher than that of Share A and Share B as well.” Do you agree or disagree with this statement? Explain. (b) Classify each of the following events as a source of systematic risk or unsystematic risk. Use one to two sentences to briefly justify your classification for each of the events. (i) In March 2015, Former NAB banker Lukas Kamay was convicted of insider trading and was sentenced to seven years and three months in prison. (ii) Apple’ share price sunk by more than 5% on the news of the death of Steve Jobs. (iii) The recent COVID-19 lockdowns in Sydney and Melbourne are causing security prices around the Australia to fall precipitously. (c) Based on your recent research, there are six pharmaceutical companies working on a new COVID19 vaccine for the Delta-variant. As an investor, you have the option of investing in one of them versus all six of them: (i) Is your systematic risk likely to be very different? Why? (ii) If you decide to invest in all six pharmaceutical companies and form an investment portfolio accordingly, would you consider such investment portfolio is well-diversified? Explain. Question 4. (This question has two sub-questions: (a) and
(b)) (a) The net cash flows for two projects, A and B, are as follows: Net Cash Flows Year Project A Project B 0 -$60,000 -$35,000 1 $45,000 $32,000 2 -$15,000 $17,000 3 $60,000 -$5,000 (i) Can you make capital budgeting decisions for the above projects based on the IRR (internal rate of return) method? Explain. (ii) Given a discount rate of 10% p.a., calculate the NPV of the above projects. (iii) Assuming you have $60,000 to invest, which one ought to be selected? Explain. (iv) Will your answer in Part (iii) be different if you have $100,000 to invest and these two projects are not mutually exclusive? Explain. (b) Sky Tech is a company that producing solar panels. The company is analysing the possibility of introducing a new product, named ‘Solar-2022’, to the market. The ‘Solar-2022’ will adopt a new technology of using silicon solar modules. This new technology could largely increase the power conversion efficiency. The project is estimated to be of 5 years duration. The company’s tax rate is 35%. The following is the additional information about the project: (i) To produce this new product, Sky Tech needs to introduce a new production line. This production line requires an initial investment of $7,500,000 in fixed asset which is fully depreciated over the five-year life of the project. (ii) The expected annual sales number of ‘Solar-2022’ is 20,000 units; the price is $680 per unit. Variable costs of production amount to $330 per unit. (iii) The introduction of the ‘Solar-2022’ will also decrease the company’s sales of regular solar panels by 12,500 units per year; the regular solar panel has a unit price of $350 and unit variable cost of $160. (iv) To date, Sky Tech had already spent $1,000,000 in research and development on the new silicon solar modules technology. Assess and justify whether or not each of the items ((i) – (iv) above) should be considered in the estimation of the incremental annual cash flow from operations for the ‘Solar-2022’ project. Calculate the after-tax incremental annual cash flow from operations. Question 5. (This question has two sub-questions: (a) and (b)) (a) You are presented with the following information about Tesla Corporation: • The company has 10 million ordinary shares outstanding, priced at $45 and with a beta of 1.35. The market risk premium is 9.5% p.a. and Treasury bills are yielding 2% p.a. • There are 1.2 million preference shares outstanding with a par value of $100 and 7.2% dividend. The market price of the preference shares is $60. • The company has 120,000 of semiannual coupon bonds outstanding with $1,000 par value. The bonds are selling at 120% of par. The yield to maturity is 7.5% p.a. and the corporate tax rate is 35%. What is the Tesla’s after-tax WACC? (b) You are the manager of a financially distressed company with $3.1 million in debt outstanding that will mature in three months. Your company currently has $3 million invested in risk-free Australian Government Treasury bills that will pay $3.1 million in three months. Assume that you are offered with an opportunity that involves selling the $3 million risk-free Treasury bills now and investing the proceed in a high-risk project, with a 30% probability of $6 million pay off in three months, and a 70% probability of $1 million pay off in three months. If you were operating the company in the shareholders’ best interests, will you push for the acceptance of this high-risk project? Explain your reasoning. Formulae 1. FV = PV(1 ??) 2. New list of Pokemon
I’m just going to make another post and delete the old one. This one will be more in depth with what Pokemon are planned to be in the game. Will be adding to this as it grows.
I revamped every cut Pokemon from Spaceworld ‘97 to use in this game. I had to sort of guess what kind of stats they would have based on their looks. (Unless they’re an evolution or pre-evolution. Those are pretty easy for me to guess.) Most of the Pokemon from the Demo will retain their original name, unless I change my mind. Some though I just wanted to use different names for them for... Some reason.
Some of these will probably have minor changes to them in the future. (Specifically the outlines of some of them... Okay maybe almost all of them.)
I don’t know if I’m going to bother revamping any of the cut Pokemon from Red and Green. Mostly since I would have to trace over the art from the book first, and some of them are cut off. They’re also in black and white so it would be hard to tell what’s supposed to be what.
I also recorded myself making the sprites! (Just in case I lost them just like I lost a lot of the faces.)
Starters
Well, technically Tauros will be your starter. (And your bike.) But you get to pick from one of these three anyway,
Tumblr media
Kurusu, Akua and Akueria, the water starter line.
Tumblr media
Honoguma, Borubeea and Dainabea, the fire starter line
Tumblr media
Happa, Hanamogura, and Tilian Meganium, the grass starter line. The difference between these and the regular Chikorita line (besides the elephant in the room) is that Meganium is going to have a Dragon typing as it’s second type! I may even just let all three of them be part dragon. Doubtful, but if I feel like Grass/Dragon Meganium isn’t enough to make it as appealing as the other two starters, I just might. For now though I did add “poison” to Hanamogura.
I didn’t make them any bigger because for some reason they just appear so much bigger than the other two lines in the post. It was kind of an eyesore.
Cut Evolutions
These were cut from Pokemon Gold for some reason. I’m bringing them back.
Tumblr media
Buddmitto. (Maybe just “Budmitt” in the final.) A second evolution for Weepinbell if a Poison Stone is used. This Pokemon favors Special Attack over Attack and can learn more Special Grass moves than Physical.
Tumblr media
Madamu, the evolution for Farfetch’d. It doesn’t really make sense for this Pokemon to have been cut. Farfetch’d was important to the story at one point of the second gen games. This would’ve been a perfect introduction to “old Pokemon having new evolutions” but nooo~!
Tumblr media
Quiddlefish... Okay so my husband took one look at it when I was working on revamping it and said “It’s a Quiddlefish!” so... Yeah. I removed the lightning bolt that was on it’s head because there was literally no reason for it to be there.
Removed Baby Pokemon
So far these all evolve just by leveling up, since in the demo Leveling by Happiness wasn’t a thing.
Tumblr media
Koonya, baby Meowth
Tumblr media
Mikon, baby Vulpix
Tumblr media
Monja, baby Tangela
Tumblr media
Pudi, baby Growlithe. I decided to call his species “gud boi.”
Tumblr media
Para, baby Paras. This design actually raises some questions.
Tumblr media
Peticorn. (Petite unicorn... Despite not being a unicorn.) Baby Ponyta.
Tumblr media
Dododo, baby Doduo... Yeah, I know. 3-2-3 doesn’t make any sense. I kind of want to give it a Pokedex entry that has two of the babies consuming one somehow, and then that one coming back for revenge in Dodrio. I... I don’t fucking know.
Tumblr media
Betobebe, baby Grimer. Look at it! It’s so cute!
I may have baby Goldeen in the game too. I revamped the sprite and even made interesting boy/girl variants, but err... There doesn’t seem to be a way to have that separation yet.
Completely Cut Pokemon
Tumblr media
Rinrin and Bellune, dark type cats
Tumblr media
Bomushika, fire/water type seal
Tumblr media
Manboo, Ikari and Grotesu, water into water/steel... I don’t understand either.
Tumblr media
Norowara and Kyonpan, ghost types. What’s interesting about Norowara is that it apparently evolves at level 1 in the demo, which is literally impossible, so I’m making it evolve at level 2. At the start it will only know Confuse Ray and Curse, and only have 1 HP with Wonder Guard. Once evolved it will have a normal HP stat. It could be good for a “bomb,” meaning that it could sacrifice itself by using Curse on a particularly hard to beat Pokemon, but that does mean that it won’t gain any EXP.
Tumblr media
Kotora and Raitora, thunder cats
Tumblr media
And Gorotora. I found out recently that a third evolution was planned for gen 1 before it was dropped even sooner than Kotora and Raitora. I wouldn’t have bothered except I was commissioned to do a saber tooth Pokemon anyway, so I figured that I might as well. This one will probably be evolved using a Thunder Stone.
Tumblr media
Urufuman and Warwolf, ice type... The concept of these two confuses the hell out of me, but those claws look like the claws of Weavile so I’m just going to say that these are a Sneasel and a Weavile who couldn’t develop feet claws so they murdered an innocent Pokemon to make them look intimidating. That Pokemon doesn’t exist but maybe I’ll make it exist someday I dunno. (Or maybe I’ll make the Pokemon they killed look like existing Pokemon, like Arcanine.)
...How did the suit evolve with them? Why would an Ice Pokemon need a coat?
Tumblr media
Cloyster... Again. Water/Psychic type. Evolves from Shellder with a Slowpoke’s tail. (As gruesome of a mental image that is.) I may change the name of this one because it will be mostly different from the original Cloyster... Just not into “Turbann.” (I’ll come up with something else, maybe.)
Tumblr media
Noxeon, poison type. (May change the name later.) This one wasn’t technically cut. Umbreon was originally going to be a Poison type but they switched it to Dark to show off the new type. I decided that if I was going to make this, I would use Umbreon as a base. (It’s a different Umbreon sprite than the one in the game.) I may make the ears blend in like the tail later. I don’t know how Eevee would evolve into this yet.
Tumblr media
This one isn’t actually going to be in this build, which is why it’s all blurred out. But it is a Pokemon that was cut! I would give a hint to it’s role in my game, but that would probably be giving it away.
Pokemon made up my me, my husband or other
Tumblr media
Eeveeon, evolved from leveling up to... 32? I dunno. This is the conversation exactly:
Husband: “Eevee needs a normal type evolution that’s just a fluffier version of it!”
Me: “So... A brown Flareon?”
Huband: “Yes!”
Tumblr media
Vespitos (Vespa/custos, or the Latin word for “guard”)
I wanted to make a male evolution for Combee and this is what I came up with on the spot. It’s weaker than Vespiquen (With around 380 total base stats) but can still hold it’s own. You can evolve Combee into it at level 18 instead of 21 and it focuses more on attack than on defense.
Tumblr media
Deloris, grass/ghost type. When I saw it, my immediate thoughts were “I need to make this NOW!” I don’t know if I’ll “make” a Fizzbitch move. (I would just be replacing the name of one move to “Fizzbitch.” Probably one of the legendary exclusive moves from a legendary Pokemon that’s not going to be in the game. Hell, I’ll probably turn Deloris into a Legendary!)
I have no idea if I want other 4Chan Pokemon in the game. Possibly not, considering that this one has an official canon mystery behind it that we still don’t have the answer to, but the others have been solved... Maybe Tentaquil.
Tumblr media
Alternative Luvdisc colors! So some context: I made some very boring hearts (and “friendship circles) to show how much a person likes you. I decided to change it to Luvdiscs, but then I got an idea for a festival where you can catch these alternative Luvdisc (and OG) and if you catch all of them, you can get something cute for your house!
Also the “Friendship circles” are now Pokeballs.
(Other) Tilian Pokemon
Somebody who goes by Obermarschall on Reddit commissioned me to make a bunch of Pokemon, including some Delta/Alolan Pokemon. I can’t really see a use for some of them but I can see a use for most of them... And use them I shall!
Tumblr media
Fairy Stantler, based on Disney’s version of Bambi. Obermarschall is going to be using a version that’s more orange in color so this version may only appear in my game!
Tumblr media
Ice/Grass Eggxecute and Eggxegutor. They’re pine cones. I love these ideas. Though again the Eggxegutor that Obermarschall’s going to have different legs. I just prefer this one over the one they’re going to be using.
Tumblr media
Ice Numel and Camerupt. The Numel is so fucking CUTE!
Tumblr media
Dark/Normal Snubbel and Granbull.
Tumblr media
Water Shuckle. Look at him. Look at him and BOW DOWN!
He’s so cute! I love him!
Maybe
Tumblr media
Animon, depending on what Meltan or whatever it’s called turns out to be like in battle. I would have to make this a pretty special Pokemon to make people bother to evolve Ditto, which will be pretty hard to do if it’s only going to be able to transform.
Meltitan (yes I am calling it that) kinda destroyed any connection to Animon it may have had. Dammit.
Tumblr media
They’re ground Growlithe and Arcanine based on dingos. I love them, but I realized that I would have to make Pudi part ground type too, and I don’t want to do that. Not in this game at least. Maybe I can make them part of... I dunno. Some other region, and you can trade for these two plus ground Pudi.
Tumblr media
Ground type Ponyta and Rapidash... Only they’re zebras. They’re “maybes” for the same reason.
In the game Obermarschall’s making, they’ll be fighting/ground... I don’t know how to make it obvious that they’re part fighting so I just opted for using those poses.

Long Covid Still a Risk With Omicron: Fauci
Long Covid Still a Risk With Omicron: Fauci
“Long Covid can happen no matter what virus variant occurs. There’s no evidence that there’s any difference between Delta or Beta or now Omicron,” Fauci was quoted as saying in an interview with Spectrum News. “We should always be aware that when people get symptomatic infection – anywhere from 10 to up to 30 plus per cent of people will go on to have persistence of symptoms,” he added, noting…

Christmas, Covid, Borders open... kinda
Plus a few general notes.
So for about a week now, the borders have been open, the media has focused on families reuniting between Queensland and New South Wales, tears of joy, hugs, holding grand kids for the first time.
Next few days, on the tail of covid vaccination rates, booster roll outs is the increasing count of new infections.
What is different is the dual feeling that the new variant (Omicron) is 'not as bad' as the original and/ or Delta covid strain, as well as the high rate of double dose vaccination rates.
And that's the kicker now; vaccination rates.
Before the vaccine was widely available, a new variant was cause for major concern bordering on reassessment of life choices.
There's still die hard covid deniers out there, and certainly they have blogs and posts and websites that'll make for, well, interesting reading.
Comparable to those who believe that Elvis jumped back on his flying saucer to return to his home planet....
As for covid deniers et al

I did see a small stall last Friday, against the fascist elements marching against vaccine. About 4 young, polite, nice people. Not a lot of support, elements are there, interesting to see that there though.

This is my general feeling towards the anti vaxer crowds.

Very nice for a Southern hemisphere summer ...
Meanwhile, with borders opening, there's been a spike in wait times for drive through testing (drive up, mouth swab, then a nasal swab that almost makes your eyes water) then paperwork and home for results.

Likely a backlog in other states as well...
Plus the news about Omicron is the usual confusing mess.... most media says it's more contagious yet less virulent.... and I've seen one report (headline, actually) with concerns about a Delta/Omicron hybrid.
This feels a bit disorganised and random, and dear future historian I do apologise for that. It's been a bit of a challenge of late, most of it been the day to day stuff of life, which existed before and during covid.
Tidier entries soon...

P.E.I. reports 31 new cases of COVID-19 Friday, new restrictions
Prince Edward Island is reporting 31 new cases of COVD-19 on Friday, bringing the total number of active infections in the province to 75.
“This is a record high number of cases for P.E.I.,” says Dr. Heather Morrison, P.E.I.’s chief public health officer.
“While Delta took over as the dominant variant, beginning earlier in the summer, we fully expect Omicron will quickly overtake Delta in the coming days.”
Morrison announced a second confirmed case of the Omicron variant on the Island. This case was announced previously and is linked to the outbreak at St. FX.
ADJUSTING RESTRICTIONS
Earlier this week the province released new interim measures aimed at mitigating the spread of the Omicron variant. Friday, Morrison announced the need to adjust those measures.
“Modeling in other provinces suggests that healthcare systems, including critical care capacity, could be overwhelmed in the next few weeks. This variant is moving faster than any jurisdiction can react. We need to do everything we can to slow down the spread of Omicron.”
The following additional measures come into effect Saturday, Dec. 18 at 8 a.m. and will continue until Jan. 8, 2022:
Personal gatherings are limited to 10 people, plus your household members. Islanders should have a steady 10 people, not a different 10 people each day.
Visitation in long-term care and community care has been adjusted to allow three partners in care, plus three designated visitors with physical distancing.
Strict physical distancing between people from different households is required for organizations, events, venues, businesses, and organized gatherings.
Physical distancing is now going to be a legal requirement, not just a recommendation, to a maximum of 50 per cent capacity in retail businesses and vax pass events, including theatres, gyms, community gatherings, casinos, etc.
Restaurants and eating establishments must maintain six feet between tables and continue to require proof of vaccination for patrons.
Masking is required by all patrons, except for when actively eating or drinking.
The maximum table size in an eating establishment will be 10 people.
There is to be no dancing at any event and karaoke is not permitted.
All indoor sport and recreational activities are paused for Island children under the age of 18, and this includes all organized sports, tournaments, competitions, games, team training and practices.
Church services can proceed as planned during the Christmas season, however they must respect masking, cohorting, and physical distancing requirements.
“These are not the messages we want to be delivering. While we have been successful at containing COVID-19 to date, we will not be able to contain the spread of the Omicron variant in the same way,” says Morrison.
“We have to anticipate the Omicron will create significant strain on the healthcare system and public health system, both of which are already fragile.”
Morrison says the province needs to take quick and decisive action now to allow time to learn more about the Omicron variant over the next few weeks. She stressed the following steps:
We need to reduce our number of close contacts by at least 50 per cent.
We need more children, aged five to 11, immunized.
We need more people who are eligible to get their third dose of vaccine.
We need to stress the requirement for people of different households to remain physically distant.
COMMUNITY SPREAD
The majority of the recent cases on the Island are linked to travel, either directly or indirectly. Morrison says some are close contacts of previous cases and for others, there is no link to travel or other cases, meaning there is community spread.
“Given the volume of new cases, we will have to adjust how we conduct contact tracing. We will focus on making initial contact with new cases and close contacts to provide isolation and testing instructions. We may have to forgo comprehensive contact tracing and assume there is widespread community transmission at some point,” says Morrison.
Over the last few days, Morrison says public health has seen COVID-19 spread very quickly and, sometimes, with very little contact.
“Like other provinces, we are in for a very challenging time, with great potential to strain all aspects of our healthcare system and to disrupt the province in general. We know the Omicron variant is highly transmissible and, like other provinces, we are seeing cases rising quickly,” says Morrison.
“Many people infected with Omicron are symptomatic and it is too early to tell if we are going to see hospitalization and ICU admissions.”
