I do not want a "lightweight" rain poncho. those don't do squat. I want a rain poncho so thoroughly waterproof that it weighs me down and makes it hard to bend my arms. why is this impossible to find.

ougghhh next month is gonna be BUSY

finish playing all fnaf games (SL-HW2) on twitch, make (as in like literally sewing) an outfit for a concert, ARTFIGHT which will probably take up most my time, putting together/making several cosplays for a con (one im not excited to cosplay as but im doing it for my partner), plus some other stuff i definitely forgot, all on top of working. wwouughbh

I know that the Imperial system is bad and all but I gotta say. I do really like how it works for sewing

#was watching jan misali's video on the imperial measurement system and thinking.#yes metric system is easier to multiply by 10. but you are not multiplying by 10 when sewing #you are dividing #specifically by two more than once #which gets Real ugly with 10 #but is very nice with 36 and 12 and fractions of an inch #I like being able to divide inches when doing seams instead of having to work in arbitrary numbers of millimeters (too precise)#or numbers of centimeters (not precise enough).#like you got 1'' 5/8'' 1/2'' 3/8'' 1/4'' 1/8''. very directly related to each other. all the precision you need. easy to remember #also easy to standardize for different 'types' of things you're sewing #clothes are 5/8'' or 1/2'' seam. accessories like purses are 1/2'' or 3/8''. quilts are 1/4'' and French seams are 1/8''#and you can remember that and use it when you don't have a pattern to work directly off of #yards and fractional yards are also really nice to work off of when buying fabric. inches turn into fractional yards really really nicely #you can take a 5'4'' measurement for a cloak #which is 64'' just by remembering the multiples of 12 (remember your times tables? i learned those in 3rd grade)#which is 1 and 2/3 yards! very easy to remember and go to the fabric store and buy the right amount of fabric #(though i would round it up to 1 3/4 yards just to be safe)#good Lord 95 percent of this post is in the tags. anyway #my posts #sewing

#okay a brief story/rant time #i got struck by a sudden inspiration to sew some new curtains today #i had this lovely light green fabric hidden in my closet waiting for just this moment #pinned the seams down. went to my sewing kit. realized i don't have any matching thread #no problem - there is a store a few minutes' walk away i'll just go and pick some from there #unfortunately the store didn't have a light green thread so i can't start sewing today #which is fine - they're not a designated sewing supply store so they probably only have the most basic colors in there -#just the bare necessities for some simple mending - and light green isn't THE most common color so it's undestandable they don't have it -#but. BUT.#THEN i saw that they have THREE different shades of beige available right away #T H R E E #and now i want to burn down the entire world?????#WHAT is it with people being so fucking deathly afraid of color that only beige is ever allowed to exist #i HATE this. hate hate hate hate hate this #objectively the worst color to ever exist AND now it's actively stealing space from any other color #invasive species type behavior. kill it with fire #sussitalk

this is the first time I've picked up a new hobby (sewing) since having access to a library again, and oh my god it's sooo nice. it definitely hasn't stopped me from making stupid purchases, but I've borrowed sooo many books on sewing! it's so nice to look through them without feeling rushed in a store, or only having a few pages available online, or, more realistically for me, trying to learn everything from YouTube videos. I've found a couple that I like enough that I want to buy them (second hand), and a lot that have a few helpful tips that I've written down but overall aren't that useful.

and then there was one that was about making new things from used clothes... cool concept, awful execution. if a 10 year old kid had made the things in this book they would have been "nice". but a grown woman made them and got someone to publish a book about them. fascinating! I don't understand it but it's fascinating.
