So... I decided to redesign Grimlock for the GOTP AU. He started out looking like his usual RID2015 self, but through a situation (the details still WIP) he essentially "Evolved" into a new form, giving him a new color scheme and adding in his classic fire-breathing powers.

I took influences from several different versions of Grimlock, but mostly I just wanted to make a variant that was between the Jolly Green Giant of RID2015 and the sudden, drastic change we see in RBA to his original colors, but still not quite to my tastes.

Inspired by @ovegakart 's kick ass twilight princess and skyward sword robos. I couldn't get the idea of a mass shifting robo hero of the minish out of my head so I had to draw.

Ezlo, a tiny techno-organic being turned into his current form by his former apprentice, merges with the hero. This unlocks the ability to mass shift down to sizes thought too energy intensive to be possible. Link learns that wheels aren't much use at such a small scale and adopts a mulldozer alt mode.

Also, I finished watching Beast Wars Transformers. I loved every second of it. Such a fun show that could be epic and dramatic but also silly and fun. Dinobot is my favorite character in the show because I'm a sucker for honorable warrior characters. The plot felt a little rushed towards end with the last few episodes but I still greatly enjoyed 95% of the journey getting there. I'm unsure if I want to watch the sequel series, Beast Machines, or not. The character designs and what I've seen of the clips/summaries of the story and character writing are scaring me off.

god u know es is the smartest tf show cause i sooo feel like its picking up everything ive ever put down. AND i gotta honestly sit and unpick all the layers to what its got to say. im so used to thinking about my beloved dino bots in disability (disabotlity) or akin frame works. or... notably one time as ostracized social class akin to racialization (thank you copaganda show :/) and with the other beast formers being phrased as self expression linking up with the trans character. i complete missed that actually. theres a complete read for alt mode difference as sexuality/orientation too..... TOTALLY missed that its also expressed as what forms you feel desire too. [that its okay to not know what that is until you see it]

granted its not like most other media even could bring that up, if they were gonna be straight about it. DUE TO the things ive already extensively outlined. HAVE seen it in fan works but i dont take that too seriously. closest thing in cartoon canon IN fact and but of course being KNOCK OUT. which. much love <3 but i wasnt looking with the same... analytic eye... fhkadggdaf.

Top Ten Beast Mode Transformers

Ah, Transformers; my comfort zone! After all the videogame-related shenanigans, I’ve got quite a lot of semi-topical stuff to cover in June. Quite a few films come out. Too many, in fact. Gah! I’ve not seen Spider-Verse or Little Mermaid yet (or Sisu!), and before the likes of Indy and Mission we’ve also got the small matter of a new Transformers film. GAH!

Anyway, Transformers are cool and I like them even if I don’t like most of the films. And the new film – Rise of the Beasts – is interesting because it’s poking at a different part of the franchise; namely the series Beast Wars. I skipped Beast Wars because, back then, I thought it looked a bit naff. Well, not naff, really; it just didn’t feel like my Transformers. I wanted the old Marvel continuity to be honest, and bounced hard off anything that was different. It’s why I never even gave Generation 2 much of a shot – and that was supposed to be a continuation of the Marvel continuity, written by the same guy!  

Ah well.

Anyway (II) – the new film. I think it looks alright. I don’t have any nostalgic connection to Optimus Primal or, er, the other characters whose names I definitely know (Cheetarah? No, that’s not it). I do have a nostalgic connection to Unicron, though, so I’m interested to see how that shakes out. But as befits the name of the film what I’m here to talk about is beast mode Transformers.

The basic gist of Transformers from the off – adapted as the toys were from existing Japanese toys – was robots turning into vehicles and things. Cars, jets, guns, whatever. Animals didn’t really make sense because, well, robots in disguise innit. You can’t disguise yourself as a poodle if you’re twenty feet tall and made of metal. Various reasons were given why it could work – pretender shells, mass shifting, nobody really caring in the first place – but as the franchise wore on it became more common. By the time of the excellent IDW continuity a few years ago, it even factored into the racism and subjugation that existed on Cybertron, because beast mode Transformers were considered inferior by some. However, I just like big robot animals at the end of the day, and that’s what this list celebrates.

So: no more to it than that. My favourite Transformers that turn into beasts and stuff. I did umm and ahh a little bit over whether they specifically had to be “humanoid robots that turn into an animal” or if I could also include Transformers whose “robot mode” for want of a better word was an animal. But if I’d gone with the former, I couldn’t have had Ravage on the list, so I went with the latter. That’s it.

Maximise! That’s what he says. In the cartoon. Never mind…

Grimlock: I mean, who else could it be, really? Grimlock, depending on what day you ask me, is my favourite Transformer (unless I say Rodimus or Megatron). He’s a big grumpy dinosaur who’s also a tactical genius and a noble leader and sometimes he’s smart and sometimes he’s dumb but he has strong Worf energy, if you know what I mean. And he’s – I cannot stress this enough – a robot tyrannosaurus rex. I just love everything about him. And, for what it’s worth, I have decided that he’s cool enough to represent all the Dinobots, basically so they don’t account for the top half of this list.

Ravage: so awesome a character I changed the rules. Ravage is a stealth mastermind, the sneakiest snoop that ever there was. And he’s a cat. Used briliiantly in IDW to represent the prejudice against beast mode Transformers, it’s how predominantly British writers have handled him – as a very intelligent, supremely loyal, but also deeply honest character who’s not afraid to speak truth to power and, crucially, actually speaks – that defines his best portrayals. Also has one of the best death scenes of all time.

Catilla: full disclosure, Catilla is one I love because I loved his toy. He’s an Autobot that turns into some kind of robot cat; probably a sabretooth tiger, but it’s a fairly basic transformation so it’s hard to say. He has a cool outer shell that’s a giant yellow tiger, and gives off strong Battle Cat energy. Sadly underutilised in fiction, his death does kick off a long-running and excellent arc in the old TFUK comics, and in my headcanon he’s always paired with his Decepticon counterpart Carnivac.

Sky Lynx: oh, I love him so much. A big, vainglorious, ego-drenched snob; a giant metal pterodactyl who’s also a leopard-thing and turns into a space shuttle. He’s two different beasts! Three, really, because they all connect together to make some kind of huge monster-bird creature. No wonder he thinks he’s the greatest Transformer of all time. He’s got a point.

Scorponok: surprisingly low on the list, I guess, but what can I say? I love all these guys. Scorpy’s great because on one hand he’s just a big, badass Decepticon leader, with sweet claws and an awesome alt-mode (a giant frickin’ scorpion!). On the other, his portrayal in the old Marvel comics was fantastic, as the “human” element of his personality made him more moderate and willing to accept an alliance with the Autobots. Again, he has an amazing – and tragic – death scene.

Carnivac: yes, it’s Catilla’s sort-of counterpart; a Decepticon hunter who turns into a wolf. My cousin had his toy and I had Catilla’s, so we had fun playing as kids. His wolf mode has a cool, very narrow snout, sort of like Death from the recent Puss-in-Boots movie. But Carnivac was awesome because he was another honourable Decepticon, rather than a ruthless murderer, and his arc where he left his teammates but refused to become an Autobot was brilliant thirty years ago. Straight-up murdered a lot of dudes in ruthless fashion, too. But they were bad so it was okay.

Shrapnel: I love the Insecticons, and here Shrapnel kinda represents all of them really. Why Shrapnel over the other two though? To be hinest as a kid I really coveted Kickback; I just loved his alt mode as, er, a sort of cricket-thing. And Kickback has the gnarliest death, squished by Hot Rod in gruesome close up. But Shrapnel was the toy I had, and I liked that. I also like his weird, um, pincer things, and the funny way he talked in the cartoon. Bombshell is boring though. Cerebro shells? Pff.

Trypticon: yes, another dinosaur, but this one is huge. A Decepticon kaiju, a whacking great city-bot who stomps around getting into fights with Metroplex. A veritable powerhouse and one of the strongest Decepticons, Trypticon is a monster. He has quite a cool role in the IDW comics as a Titan and eventually a kind of nursemaid to a generation of new Transformer sparks. But mostly I like him for being a big unit who beats up everyone.

Tarantulas: now we get to characters that I haven’t loved for thirty years. Tarantulas, to be honest, was a mystery until Nick Roche’s Sins of the Wreckers, where he’s revealed as a supremely sinister mad scientist who had a complicated and frankly disturbing relationship with Prowl where they both ended up as parents to Springer… yeah, complicated. Also he once shrunk down to a tiny spider, crawled inside someone’s head, and grew back to normal size. Nice guy.

Sky-Byte: another one who was popular in the fanbase for years but who I only glommed onto, as they say, once he popped up in the IDW comics. For shame! For who could not love a giant robot shark that can fly, and is also a poet? An artistic soul, a Decepticon who rejects the violent excesses of his own team, Sky-Byte has a tragic nobility that I find appealing. And did I mention he’s a flying shark?

He didn’t make the list, but let’s not forget that in the Rescue Bots cartoon Optimus Prime also turned into a big red t-rex. Stomping on Grimmy’s turf; has he no shame?

As a sparkling, did Sparkplug ever meet the Dinobots and thought they were scary or was fascinated?

The Dinobots were always just around, hanging out and doing what they wanted as only Optimus and Wheel jack could get them to do something productive.

Sparkplug had met the dinobots before she was able to remember things, as they were excited to meet the new “lab built bot”.

Grimlock took special interest in Sparkplug, he just found her neat, some thought he saw her as being like the Dinobots as they were born on earth like him. However that theory was proven wrong when Grimlock showed disinterest in other earth born transformers that didn’t have animal alt modes.

But still, Grimlock would come in and steal Sparkplug away for various activities, be it breaking into the energon storage room, or sneaking out to see a drive in film. He just enjoyed spending time with the sparkling

Instead of Jawbreaker scanning a dinosaur skeleton/fossil and becomes a dinobot, he scans a predacon fossil and becomes a predacon.

He then comes home as a lill dragon and everyone looses their crap because babey boi just took an alt mode of an extinct species of cybertronian.

You (Don’t) Know Me Pt 2

Insecticons x Reader

Warnings: 18+ storyline 🌶️ Dubcon, eventual sparked reader

• Running headlong, branches claw at your hair and arms, scrape painfully across your face. More than once, you bang into trees, eyes struggling to adjust to the dark, but unable to stop running even for a second. Not when you can hear those things crashing after you, your own gasping breaths too loud in your ears. A screech and you change directions, shoulder slamming into a tree as another one comes out of nowhere. You have only an impression of size and that fiery red glow of optics as you scream and keep moving, feeling claws snag the back of your shirt, your feet momentarily leaving the ground before the material rips and you’re stumbling, clawing upright and running again, mindless with terror.

• Almost. Hearing Bombshell’s chittering laughter as you manage to escape his grasp, Kickback grins. Because you’re making them work to capture you, refusing to just submit to them. He’d known when he’d caught your scent that you were what he’d hoped for. Singing out to make Shrapnel hiss, Kickback watches you change directions at the sound. In the trees, you’re small enough to have the advantage, but he’s been here before and knows you’re about to run out of cover. And then you’re his. Theirs. A sweet little treat to claim.

• Lunging for you, Shrapnel’s shoulder bumps into Bombshell’s. The high from the hunt spinning him tight as he tries to be the one to capture you. Knows Kickback’s enamored with the idea of a soft little queen for their small hive, but he’s not entirely sold on that. A toy, though? Or a snack? Hissing as you break from the trees into the clearing, moonlight silvering you, and for a moment, he understands Kickback’s fascination with humans. You look like you’re made of moonlight, unreal almost. Sees the moment you spot the old cabin and head straight for it. But there’s a scent lingering in the area that hasn’t been there before, one that jangles through him dangerously. “Catch the human now, now,” he urges his brothers.

• Eyes burning with tears, you run for the cabin up ahead. Maybe there’s someone who can help you? Maybe you can hide from whatever’s chasing you inside? There’s a bigger shape beside the cabin, a big shadowy lump that you think might be an RV. “Help! Somebody help!” You scream and then that big shape moves. Two glowing eyes opening as something massive stands up, limned in moonlight. Skidding and falling on your hip, your pursuers catch up. Demonic shapes crouched around and over you as that bigger shape takes a lumbering step your way and roars.

• “Grimlock,” Bombshell snarls as he crouches, swapping to his alt mode as his brothers follow suit. Aware of the little human laying in the grass and that he’s not losing you to a dinobot after working so hard to claim you. Hissing, he attacks. Grimlock is bigger and stronger, but slow. Massive jaws closing on air again and again until Kickback screams out in pain. Shrapnel unleashing his pent up electricity in retaliation. Knowing they can’t win against the dinobot, only hope to discourage him from pursuing. Turning to flee, he hisses when Kickback lurches after the human who’s back on their feet and running back into the woods.

• Something snares your leg and you scream as you go sprawling in the leaves and dirt. Feel something grab you by the back of your shirt and then you’re being dragged off into the woods, the thing that has you hissing softly. Struggling to get free, you see the cave and grab at trees to try and stop yourself from being pulled inside, knowing that if you’re dragged in there, you’re not coming back out. Too terrified to scream, barely able to breathe as you’re pulled inside despite your struggling. See the other two monsters lingering at the opening watching. The moonlight filtering through the trees painting an unpleasant picture. Giant bugs with glowing optics. Monsters. “Best hope he doesn’t get hungry, hungry,” one hisses as the one with a grip on you drags you deeper into the darkness.

• Lingering at the entrance to the cave they’d dug out to have a place to escape the Decepticons if need be, Shrapnel watches Kickback drag you into the corner where he’d been collecting soft things to sleep on. Injured as he is, it’s entirely possible Kickback might eat you while he and Bombshell are stealing energon to help him self repair. But then if he does, they can always find a new toy. Even if you were a good hunt. Only getting captured because Grimlock had startled you. And he’d wanted to see how long you could go before you collapsed and submitted to them. A pity.

CollectIconInc ships fast from the U.S. Yaked50 ships from China and takes… a lot longer than anticipated to ship, but I’ve bought harder to find Blokees from them without an issue. I ordered the new wave 6’s that aren’t released where I live yet from them.

Earthspark Nightshade and Jawbreaker meeting other transformers with animal/beast alt modes 🙏

I hope this is what you meant AHSBHA I tbh just used this to draw my faves from beast wars (Except for Terrorsaur because I wanted to pick the ones probably least likely to murder the Terrans on sight). Also idk if adding Tarantulas was cheating because they already met him, but he IS my fave character in both Earthspark and BW. Grimlock is also one of my faves but I decided having 1 character already in Earthspark (other than the Terrans) was enough.

Cheetor is probably just happy that this Tarantulas isn’t torturing him this time around. Dinobot is in the back questioning why they aren’t doing combat training ??? Decided to add Slash (TF:RBA) too because I thought having some more small dinos would be fun. And Waspinator has been blown up (as always) by the smart trainer.

I’m not shading allat sorry chat BUT I enjoyed drawing my faves HEHEHE (BW is peak and everybody should watch it.)

🐉 Years ago, you were brought back to life by Shockwave. You served Lord Megatron without any worries about him betraying you; he had stated that the Autobots were the evil ones, that only cemented your beliefs when your future fellow Predacons were destroyed.

🐉 When Ratchet told you and Predaking everything, shock overtook you. You didn't want to believe it. You put all your loyalty into Megatron, only for him to be a backstabbing hunk of scrap!

🐉 Loyalty was worked to be earned after that, and Predaking, along with Bulkhead, Ratchet, Wheeljack, Optimus Prime, and Bumblebee, earned that whole-sparked with you. You would go to the ends of the universe for them.

🦖 Now, looking at the T-Rex Dinobot in front of you, a smile overtook your face. He was just as amazing as they were back then; Bumblebee taught him right. "Now, then you do this!" Predaking said.

🦖🐉 Predaking raised his leg, kicking the car that was hanging above thanks to the help of Sideswipe. The sounds of the car smashing and slamming into a nearby hill made everyone flinch, everyone except for the three animal-transformers there.

🦖🐉 "Awesome!" Grimlock cheered. He then tried doing the same, only to fall onto his back. You saw how Predaking stared with a cocked eyebrow, you just giggled and helped the mech up from the ground. He thanked you and stood up, now back into his bi-pedal mode.

🦖🐉 "You made a good attempt, Grim'." You said. Predaking nodded stiffly behind you and smirked, "You'd make a fine ally for the growing Predacon race."

🦖🐉 "You really think so?!" Grimlock ecstatically shouted. You smiled and nodded with your sparkmate. All of a sudden, another shout came from behind you. There, standing in all his glory, was Ultra Magnus. He looked at you both and waved for you to come to him.

🐉 "Looks like our stay is over." You said, elbowing Predaking as he scoffed. "Why we listen to him is beyond my recognition."

🐉 "Because, dearest, he is allowing us to have a portion of a Cybertron-owned planet. Wouldn't it be nice to have a home of the rest of our race? Shockwave did say he was finding more remains~"

🐉 "I... suppose so."

🦖 "Good. Now," you began. Looking at your student, you wrapped your peryton alt-mode's wings around his upper body. His optics lit up and he hugged back, making you laugh at his innocence. He may have once been a Decepticon, but he was nothing like one.

🦖🐉 You then pulled away and saw that Predaking had also become his alt-mode, his being a dragon. "Good luck on your journey, Grim'!"

🐉 Transforming and flying in the air alongside the King of the Predacons, you waved goodbye to everyone. Ultra Magnus just rolled his optics and walked through the groundbridge, a smirk appearing on his face as you danced around with one another.
