I will start by saying that I really tried hard to like this book. I read this when I was in high school but dropped it. This time I picked up both the audiobook and the physical book in order to make sure I actually finished. (Sometimes my brain simply cannot compute an audiobook.) It took 2–3 days (I had to pick up the book again today because I already forgot everybody's names. I lost the sheet with all their names/info.), but I was able to get through it. I've only read a couple of Stephen King's books, and by far this is my least favorite one. The only reason that I finished so quickly was because I did not want to have to deal with dwelling on it any longer.

Things I liked

- The narrator did an amazing job of adding emotion and making this long book bearable. - Evie was an interesting character to follow as well as the rats. - Norcross's backstory was actually complex and interesting but that isn't transferred much into how he acts as an adult.

Things I Disliked:

- There are too many characters to keep track of. I ended up having to annotate the character's name, chapter they were introduced in, & a little bit of info on them because I kept having to go back. (This could just be a me problem.) Some characters didn't seem to be anything more than a series of stereotypes. Others were given too much thought to not even end up becoming relevant to the plot. - As mentioned before, I do believe this could have been shorter. I do feel like certain parts could have been cut out. Such as giving too much attention to characters that contribute nothing to the plot or worldbuilding. - The pacing was driving me insane. It went so slowly, but we were bouncing through so many different people's POVs. Just when I was actually getting interested in what happened BOOM, another person's POV, and its back to square one trying to remember the last time they were mentioned because sometimes you need that to understand what's actually going on. - The ENDING just sucked in my opinion. It was rather predictable and at that point I was glad I was done. I'm actually proud of myself for getting through the full 23 hours of the audiobook. Even if I took so many breaks.

To me, this wasn't scary at all. It had a good premise but a bad execution. I would be very hesitant to recommend this book. I would have to know the person really well and know that this is exactly what they wanted to read in order to do so.

Olivia was raised alongside her sister, Helen, by their single dad (their mom died very shortly after Helen's birth), and despite struggling to chase the 'american dream', Theodore Zander was a loving dad, always took care that his girls have everything they needed. and same thing Libby has done for her son too, even going over her husband's rules so Vaughn has access to everything he needed. how Theodore was mostly busy with 2 jobs, Libby and her sister felt lonely at home, missing their dad, and she didnt wanted her son to feel the same, and stayed home until Vaughn could go to school.

Ryan was raised differently, in a more stricter household, and expected to be the best. his father was also in the military, and his mother was a nurse, so they didnt had much time for him. when Michael was born (Ryan was 8 yrs old), he was told to take responsability and to take care of his baby brother, and to be a role model for him. their father wasnt that forgiving with Ryan, and he was punished for every mistake, and told to be better. with his son, Ryan had never shown any sign of affection, and tried to 'correct' him for everything, from how he looked, to the way he talked. and for every mistake that Vaughn done, Ryan wasnt forgiving at all.

2. Which social class did they belong to growing up? How did it affect them?

due of Ryan's role in the army, the Zander family were upper middle class, and Vaughn didnt really felt much rationing for years, even that his uncle and cousin had faced that many times. Vaughn had better financial sources, had his own car at the age of 16, and afforded to buy better clothes and quality food. despite that, he never felt superior to others, and he knew that Libby had helped Michael and Vin with money, despite sparkling arguments with her husband.

3. Describe their family. Who raised them, and who had the most impact on them? Did they have any siblings? Who were they closest to? What were the family dynamics like?

his mama Libby and his uncle Michael raised him and his cousin Vin (theartofblossoming's oc), so they were basically as close as brothers. Libby had a major impact over her son, raising him as best as she could, to be always kind and polite and helpful. Michael had also a major role in his life, being his inspiration to be medic (Michael was a combat medic until Vin was 10 yrs old, then he retired as postman). Michael has told him how its like to be a medic, and all the risks and disappointemnts he would face, and yet Vaughn did wanted to pursue the dream, which his uncle always supported him.

he didnt had any siblings, but his cousin was like one, and he was the closest to him from all family members.

their family life was peaceful, as long as Ryan was away. Libby and Michael would spend time together more, almost everyday, before or after work, but more rarely if Ryan was home (he didnt liked company much, even that it was his brother and nephew). but they would have family dinners, regardless of situation and day, but it was tense whenever Ryan and Vaughn would argue, and Libby was always in the middle.

4. What was the most common argument between them and whoever raised them?

Vaughn always felt that his mama was hiding something, but she was smiling and saying that 'its fine' (a lie that Vaughn says too). he was feeling lied to her, as he knew that his father argued with his mama, but she pretended that everything was 'fine'.

with his uncle Michael, he didnt had any real argument, besides that Vaughn was very picky with the food, and Michael faced rationing for long time, and he hated to waste food.

The first week or so after her return was rough to say the least. People were either asking if she was alright to be moving around after being so sick or questioning her ability to do her job. Adrien was a massive help when it came to dealing with the people who questioned her ability. She was very aware that making the choice to return to being a hero was going to be a hard one she was determined to make it work. It seemed like things were getting better on the hero side of her life. 

Unfortunately for her, returning school wasn’t as easy. It was no secret at school that she was missing for the entire time. Because of the way her parents reacted to her absence there were no ways she could use lies to play off her disappearance. FShe was able to get most people off her back by saying that she didn’t want to talk about it. While she could tell the disappointemnt in their faces, she was grateful that they didn’t push for more detais. 

Marinette was getting tired of all the questions and concerned looks. All she wanted to do was to push this entire event behind her. About a week and a half later people were still asking her about what happened and that was when Chloe couldn’t take it any longer and snapped in front of the entire class.

the negative reviews probably come from disappointemnt because of the IMMENSE hype surrounding Numenera. and LiS just kinda came out, no hype, no expectaions. also, different target audience.

Yeah, LiS has a different target audience and is quite a different experience, but also, in my opinion, much less worthy of praise, even just compared to its real competition (telltale games and the like). I just put it there as one game out of many which, although mediocre, get overwhelmingly positive reviews on steam. 

Meanwhile, maybe Numenera wasn’t amazing, it had problems. I had my share of issues with it. But it was still a great game, with an ocean of lore, dialogue and choice. We can argue whether it was actualyl a good game or not, but it definitely has enough quality to be an “overwhelmingly positive reviews” game. But then it just... Isn’t. It actually baffles me. 

But I suppose it’s the hype, yeah. And Kickstarting a game means you wil have a lot of people who feel much more entitled to get what they want from a game because they helped fund it. And it’s probably not AS good as it’s predecessor.

Stil... Only 67% positive reviews? It honestly, truly baffles me.
