Playkey
Playkey is a token that is yet another attempt at allowing people to play video games by running them on other people's hardware and streaming the game to their own computer. This means people don't have to have the hardware to run the game, just enough computing power to run the streaming software well enough.
The Website
Oh boy. Yet again, they announce their crowdsale before explaining what the coin is beyond "First Decentralized Cloud Gaming Platform" which isn't particularly helpful. They also have bonuses, which is where you get a "bonus" amount of their token along with however much you actually purchase. This is pretty fishy in itself, since coins should, ideally, hold their own without requiring bonuses to attract buyers.
In which every gamer has terrible hardware, apparently
They make a pretty bold claim right off the top of their website:
81% of Gamers Can’t Play New PC Games
and add the qualifier:
Based on Steam statistics of users hardware, comparing with Dishonored 2 requirements
Let's test that claim. We'll check out the Steam Hardware Survey results as well as Dishonored 2's system requirements. Keep in mind that "minimum" requirements are often enough to run the game decently enough, while "recommended" specs are pretty overkill, in most cases. Almost all games will run near perfectly with a setup somewhere between these recommendations, or even below the minimum in some cases.
When it comes to OS, the minimum is Windows 7/8/10, with Windows 10 64-bit being recommended. The hardware survey reports that a combined 91% of users are using either Windows 7 64-bit or Windows 10 64-bit. Strike number 1 to the "81% of gamers can't play new PC games" claim. It's not like 80% of Steam users are running XP, which would be the only real thing that would disqualify someone from running the game when it comes to OS.
Next, for processor. Dishonored 2's minimum is an Intel Core i5-2400 which is a quad core 3.4GHz processor. An i7-4470 is the recommended, which is a 4-core 8-thread 3.9GHz processor. This is absolute overkill for running any game, to be honest. Still, the Steam hardware survey reports that 69.55% of users have a quad core processor, with only 27% using a dual core. When it comes to CPU speeds, the most popular range is from 3.0GHz to 3.29GHz, which are used by 30.93% of users, with 25.60% of users using faster CPUs than that. So way more than 19% of users have sufficient CPUs to run the game.
In terms of RAM, Dishonored 2 puts 8GB as the minimum with 16GB as the recommended amount. 16GB is likely overkill for any game, but over 80% of users have 8GB of RAM or greater, according to the Steam hardware survey.
I won't even continue to graphics cards, since it's clear by the survey results that many more than 19% of users have a sufficient graphics card to run Dishonored 2.
So by halfway down the page the developers of Playkey have straight up lied. There is no way you can bend the statistics to make it seem like 81% of users are completely unable to launch a new game like Dishonored 2, which they use as their example.
In which they have a solution
Their solution is apparently to allow for randos to use their software to allow others to use their hardware to stream games on. Apparently miners will get "money" for renting their computers (and by money, they likely mean Playkey tokens, which come with no guarantees as to their value, as with any token). However, there are a few cases of the types of people who will host Playkey streaming.
The home gamer. These are the people who will leave the Playkey software running when their computer isn't being used much. This sounds like a great use case, but let's think about what it means. This means that when they're not using their computer, they're likely at work, at school, etc. Which means that other people in the same timezone are likely doing the same thing, leaving nobody to use their Playkey stream hosting. People in other timezones might not be on the same schedule and could get use out of their machine, but going across a few timezones adds thousands of miles of distance, and hundreds of milliseconds of latency. These home gamers will also be hosting from their home internet connections, not the low-latency connections that datacenters use for professional play-by-stream services, adding even more latency and making the games unplayable.
Someone who wants to make a Playkey "mining rig" of sorts. This could be a computer with a CPU and GPU set up specifically to allow others to run games using their rig. These could be up 24/7, which solves one problem in the first example, but the network issue isn't solved. Home networks are awful for latency, and if someone tries to build multiple rigs like this, the amount of bandwidth they're pushing from multiple people streaming game video from their network will start to ruin playability.
People who rent GPU servers to run this on. Which, let's face it, will be exactly zero people. Playkey just tried to make it look like this was a possibility by saying that an "Nvidia Powered GPU Server" was the type of thing that would launch the game.
Whitepaper
At this point, there isn't much else that we need to do to point out how much of a shitcoin this is. Their website did a fine enough job proving that they try to mislead people and present a solution that will not work, at all.
However, their whitepaper shows the classic signs of a shitcoin. It reads like an advertisement, has plenty of page space taken up by graphics that make no sense (mostly images of video game characters and assets) and includes very little technical information compared to financial information and vague details about the platform. It's pretty much 37 pages of useless bullshit.
Conclusion
Playkey is an absolute shitcoin that tries to decentralize an idea that has failed when centralized, and tries to do so by misleading people within the first ten seconds of reading their website.
Thanks for reading! If you liked this, check out our Patreon to help support the site and keep the shitcoin analysis coming!

Play the character you want to
While Emily and Corvo have different powers, there’s no easy answer to who to pick. Go with Emily if you want to try out new tricks or learn about her character as an adult. I’ve been playing Corvo, and it’s been interesting to visit his home town and learn more about who he was before the events of the first game. Once you pick Corvo or Emily at the start of the…
