i've been thoroughly enjoying my time with Divinity Original Sin: Enhanced Edition (all its rampant misogyny and mediocre writing aside) so i decided to check out the manual for Divinity Original Sin 2 to see what i have to look forward to and jesus fucking christ, we have lost SO MUCH in the art of the game manual, because why is this manual like completely fucking empty. like there's a sweet foreward about the development and about the Kickstarter backers and stuff and there's a safety warning and some basic information about like two new things that weren't in the first game, which ARE cool to be very clear, and then just an image of the default controls. that's it. nothing fucking else. we have lost so much. bring back proper game manuals, what is even supposed to be the fucking purpose of them if you're not even gonna bother making them interesting, like i know maybe it's not cost-effective to put in as much effort as older games bc people don't check out the manuals as much in the digital gaming age but you could try to do at least a little more than just pasting the most basic information in there like some fucking tips, some hints about what works or whatever, or like what you recommend starting with, or like at least some fucking flavor or personality please, dear god, bring back proper game manuals!

Dragon Age Origins: You can romance Leliana (f) or Zevran (m) even with a character of their same gender

Dragon Age 2: You can romance all your companions (but Sebastian) indipendently from gender

Dragon Age Inquisition: You can romance Josephine (f) and Iron Bull (m) with any gender, and you can romance a lesbian character (Sera) or a gay character (Dorian)

Greedfall: You can romance Vasco (m) or Siora (f) with any gender

Dragon's Dogma: You can romance any character with any gender

Jade Empire: Sky (m) and Silk Fox (f) are romancable by any gender

Cyberpunk 2077: There are different flirts (female characters) that can be romanced by any gender, plus two full fledged romances a wlw and mlm one.

Expeditions: Viking: There is a female character (Roskva) and a male character (Ketill) who can be romanced by any gender.

Expeditions: Rome: There is a female character (Daianeira) and a male character (Caeso) who can be romanced by any gender.

Pathfinder Kingmaker: This game has multiple romances that can be romanced by characters of the same gender, mainly for wlw. Regongar is the one male character who can be romanced by any gender and also in a poly relationship with Octavia. Octavia, Kanerah, Kalikke, Nyrissa are the female characters romancable by any gender.

Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous: Similar to Kingmaker, there are multiple characters romancable by male or female protagonists.

Rogue Trader: One male character and two female characters can be romanced by any gender.

Gamedec: Ken Zhou is the only romance option in game and can be romanced by any gender.#

Black Geyser: The romances are minimal, but there are multiple female and female characters romancable by any gender.

Always sometimes monsters (and sequel): you choose both the gender of the protagonist and the one of the romance.

Divinity Original Sin: If you play alone you control two characters who can end up in a romance (not fully written, almost subtle) indipendently from their gender.

Divinity Original Sin 2: All the companions can be romanced by any gender.

Disco Elysium: If you choose specific dialogue choices it is revealed that the protagonist (Harry) is attracted to men.

Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, enhanced edition: The enhanced edition adds Dorn and Hexxat who can be romanced by the same gender.

Baldur's Gate Siege of Dragonspear: Two romance options are not gender locked.

Baldur's Gate 3: All the companions are romancable by any gender, plus there are some more flirts/less developed romances.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey: Multiple characters through the game are not gender locked for romance.

Eternal Home Floristry: You play as a gay man.

80 Days: The protagonist (a man) is clearly in love with a man, you can also romance a male character.

The Technomancer: You play as a male character, one of your romance option is mlm.

Sorcery!: If you play as a male character you can still romance Flanker, who is also a man and is the one romance option in the game. If you play as a female character there are some dialogue choices that can establish your character as wlw.

Knight Bewitched: The protagonists are two women in love.

playing Divinity Original Sin: Enhanced Edition and all the misogyny and "haha i hate my wife" jokes make this game so insufferable sometimes. like you can REALLY tell this game was written by men. the writing itself is also Not Great and clearly written for the audience instead of the actual characters in the world which isn't an inherently bad thing and can be useful in a lot of situations and stories but their execution makes it seem like they didn't even realize they were doing it and it doesn't seem to serve much function currently and it just reads really amateurish. but the gameplay is actually really fun so there's that.

These are all rpg games that have been out enough that discounts and cheaper prices are quite common. I think it might depends on the country and time, but they should be relatively easy to find (both on steam, or cdkeys or gog).

I put them in order of how satisfied I was with the ending! (no spoilers)

Okay, this is a maybe. Not sure if I would call this an rpg but Heaven's Vault allow you to make choices in your game so almost? the ending is SO GOOD. I was absolutely floored and satisfied. You know when a game peppers clues everywhere and then you realize THAT was it? Not only it is good, but not everything is explained, not in a bad sense, but in a "you can put together the history of the world". Dreamfall Chapters is another game that is not a classic rpg but I would absolutely recommend. Unavowed too!

Pathfinder Kingmaker. This game is so dear to me, and the endings, especially the companions endings and the romances endings are so detailed! Little changes in the game and you can get different ones! Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous too, but that is relatively new so it might be more expensive.

The whole Dragon Age series, from origins to Dragon Age II and Inquisition (if you consider the last DLC the ending) are just perfect!

Sorcery! not only I love this rpg to pieces, but it is pretty cheap (it is one story but divided in 4 games, so you can try the first part and see if you like it). The 4th game actually reminds me of BG3 act 3 but done well haha. You have to sneak in a certain place in a city, and it is beautiful. So many choices and the romance really works so well (I think it is kinda... part of the story, as in the game benefits from having the romance in it)

Enderal (which is actually a free game). NOW WAIT. If you played this game you are wondering why I would put it even here - the thing is... I think the endings are just perfect.

Divinity Original Sin 1, no companions or romances but I found the ending a nice and complete conclusion to the game.

Neverwinter Nights 2 if you play the Mask of the Betrayer as a perfect ending!

The original Baldur's Gate games do a good job with the ending if you play the Enhanced Edition! There are also some great mods (DORN ROMANCE MOD) that in my opinion fix some things!

Age of Decadence: no companions, and definitely different from an usual rpg, imagine it more as an exploratory rpg! The ending explained every strange little thing going on in the game.

Tides of Numenera. This game gets a lot of criticism, but I think the story (for how much chaos there is in the world of the game) has an interesting and surprising ending
