Episode 177 : Like Clockwork.
"Rockin' and rollin' like the myth of Sisyphus..."
- Anthony Cruz
More than any other month in the year, February is the one where we remember some of the greats that have passed on; as such, this mix includes tracks from J Dilla, De La Soul (RIP Dave), Big L, and Big Pun. The average ruggedness level is high, and we start off with a classic sample being used on a remix you might not know...volume up!
Mastodon : @[email protected]
Twitch : @airadam13
Playlist/Notes
Slum Village : We Be Dem (Atomic Dog Mix)
"Atomic Dog" is one of the most heavily-used samples in Hip-Hop, and with good reason - even in novice hands it sounds good, and with someone like J Dilla in charge, it sounds amazing! He has it twitching on the three on a beat it's impossible not to move to, and on the mics, the crew don't get too complex. It's only a short one, which I got on a white label of unreleased Slum Village cuts, but I think you can find it these days on some of the digital platforms. In my opinion, this mix wins over the original version!
The ARE : OH
You can hear the sound of a well-known Michael Jackson cut being atomised and reconfigured on this killer from the "Dem Damb Jacksons" instrumentals, which punches so hard that you realise why the track title is in upper case! The whole project, as you might guess from the name, is all MJ and Jackson 5 samples, worked to perfection by the man from Houston who you may also know as a member of K-Otix.
De La Soul ft. Yummy Bingham : Much More
A single that deserved to be so as a standout from "The Grind Date", this starts off with an uncredited guest appearance by the DJ Premier questioning the commitment of some to the the Hip-Hop culture, before passing to the late great Dave (aka Trugoy) to handle the opening verse. "Using these minutes like I value the call" is a great analogy for an MC who understood more than many how important it is to say something when you have the platform to do so. J Dilla's beat is grand and imposing, and his re-pitching of the main sample as used in the hook wrong-foots you - it was originally sung by a man, but sounds like a woman by the time he's finished with it!
Sol Uprising ft. Emanon : Feel The Sound
Somehow I'd "played past" this one over and over again, due to it sharing a slab of vinyl with the incredible "Raach Ya Sol" on the 2004 "They Don't Know" 12", but having stumbled on it while shortlisting for this month, I think I need to find more places to play it! Sol Uprising is the union of Sci the MC and the awesome Stacy Epps, who is towards the top of my list of "Musicians I Wish Had Released More Material". Alongside them here are Emanon, with Exile (who you might know better for his work with Blu) on production, and Aloe Blacc on the mic. It's the records like this, the ones that slip under the radar, the ones that you sometimes take a chance on, that really make a DJ's record collection.
L.E.G.A.C.Y : More
Legacy strides over this cut from the "Legsclusives" album with so much confidence that you can't help but love it! 9th Wonder's beat from the heyday of the Justus League initially draws you in with the short sample that repeats throughout and his swinging drum track (with a different snare/clap than you might have expected), but that sneaky low bass really anchors it.
Kid Capri ft. Big Pun and NORE : Block Party
Big Pun is regarded as one of the greats in spite of him unfortunately passing away without a huge amount of recordings - his impact was that powerful. It's always a joy to realise you have a feature by him that might not be known to many, and so we land on this collab alongside fellow Latino New Yorker Noreaga, with the legendary Kid Capri on production. "Soundtrack To The Streets", on which this appears, was Kid Capri's 1998 album where he handled things behind the boards and brought in an all-star cast on the mics - being a DJ with his kind of pedigree, there were a lot of people he could call!
Otis McDonald : One For Dilla
This could happily be played anytime, but as we're paying tribute to J Dilla this month then it's a perfect inclusion for the current episode. You can definitely hear the influence throughout, even as it builds from an initial relatively chilled loop to a more energetic second section before settling down again. This is great work from the "Summer" album.
NEMS, Uncle Murda, Dave East, Scram Jones : NY Is Killing Me
"City workers give up twenty years of they life and still can't afford to pay a mortgage in the Five Boroughs..." It's raw, it's abrasive, and it has a point! You might have missed this one from last year, but this Scram Jones-produced single has Coney Islands' NEMS and guests expressing their frustrations with life in modern day New York City. It's like a rawer, more serious version of J-Zone's "Bullshit City", which the longtime listeners will have heard back on episode 11!
DJ Muggs & Meyhem Lauren : Ready For War
There are many things I love about this track, one of the more specific being the sampled vehement assertions regarding the cost of the sound system :) Of course, the production from Muggs is dark and heavy as per usual and the man on the mic is one of my favourite MCs, Meyhem Lauren! The third in the series of Soul Assassins LPs was another star-studded affair that spawned a companion short film shot in the actual Death Valley - and that in turn spawned an original score from which this track is drawn.
Buccaneer : Bad Man Story
A dancehall classic that's been getting a lot of play from me recently, a gunman anthem on the Baddis riddim that can move any dance! This 1998 release is on "Da Opera" LP, which is well worth a listen, as well as being a big single and also popping up in the Jamaican crime film "Third World Cop".
Blak Twang : Online
Bringing it to the UK for the last tune in the segment, and one I hadn't played at all for a long time - long enough that only after recording did I catch a line that I felt more comfortable censoring. From the third Blak Twang LP "Kik Off" (following the originally-unreleased "Dettwork South East" and "19 Long Time", Tony Rotton gets busy on a Preemo-influenced Harry Love track.
Nicolay : The Specialist (Instrumental)
The Dutch master himself has blessed us via the medium of modern digital distribution with a collection of his old unreleased instrumentals, "Nice Chops - The Dutch Schultz Tapes 2004-2008", which absolutely still stand up today. You can hear his more contemporary material as a soloist and as part of The Foreign Exchange, but this is a great bit of nostalgia and part of a wider set of releases celebrating twenty years of Nicolay's music.
Method Man ft. Raekwon : Meth vs. Chef
Easily one of my favourite cuts from "Tical", Meth's debut and the first of the Wu solo albums, which somehow turns thirty this year... All the elements are here - raw beat, the infamous kung-fu samples (this time from "Ten Tigers of Kwangtung" and "Shaolin Master Killer"), and bars upon bars. Meth opens up before the bell rings to end his verse/round, and then Raekwon brings it home rough like Timberland wear, as he would himself say!
Semi Six : Silver Moon
No singing hook, no hook at all in fact on this single - just a constant lyrical onslaught by one of the finest MCs in the D. The intro is eerie, off-balance, and makes it sound off when you mix it, but as soon as it's over, the dark beat thunders in and doesn't let up until the death - props to the producer, fellow Detroit native AntBell!, for providing a suitable soundtrack for this one.
Mixmaster Mike : Bermuda Tri-Axl
The 2000 "Eye Of The Cyklops" release is so simultaneously chaotic and seamless that when I came to digitise it, the only way I could work out where each track began and ended was to look it up on Discogs and read from the track timings! The legend from Rocksteady DJs/Invisibl Skratch Piklz and also the Beastie Boys, whether on production or on the wheels, always walks that line between virtuosity and total anarchy in a way few can pull off.
O.C. ft. Big L and The Lost Boyz : Dangerous The Sequel
I cut this one a little short as O.C's next verse isn't so much to my taste! I thought sharing this slightly different version of the Big L-featured cut from the classic "Jewelz" LP would be a good way to play a track you may not know while also including some Big L - like Big Pun, he sadly didn't have a long enough time with us to build a deep catalogue. Production is done by Da Beatminerz, who take one of the all-time classic samples and put some deep bump underneath it. This on the B-side of the excellent "Can't Go Wrong" 12".
[DJ Spinna] Jigmastas : Magnetize (Instrumental)
The drums are smacking, the bass is rumbling, and the overall vibe is hectic on this instrumental from the 2016 "Resurgence" album from this much-respected Brooklyn crew. I played the vocal version of this back on episode 91, which is definitely worth a listen!
Natural Elements : This Is Not A Drill
High-wire apocalyptic Hip-Hop, courtesy of one of the finest groups of MCs you can even think about finding anywhere. Over Charlemagne's dramatic beat, A-Butta, Mr. Voodoo and Swigga all tear it down on a single that suits the extremely serious times we find ourselves in. The original plan was to start the episode with this track...but how do you follow up after this kind of demolition?
Please remember to support the artists you like! The purpose of putting the podcast out and providing the full tracklist is to try and give some light, so do use the songs on each episode as a starting point to search out more material. If you have Spotify in your country it's a great way to explore, but otherwise there's always Youtube and the like. Seeing your favourite artists live is the best way to put money in their pockets, and buy the vinyl/CDs/downloads of the stuff you like the most!
Check out this episode!

Café Disco + Space Disco (9/24/23)
Hello beautiful people,
This week is the time to start putting things in the schedule and to start to finish some projects that I have on the back burner. It truly is a new week and will be an amazing one. I now have the opportunity to make my dreams happen and use a new week as new growth.
So what I hope to do by the end of this week is to lock in some Earth Day and Earth Night media package dates. Figure out and solidify the October film cycle. This would mean contacting the different artists, getting on a phone call and securing a date to film. Then I will contact and get a film crew for each of the shoots, and coordinate with Zoe to see if she's still down to conduct the interviews.
The possible artists that I'd want to get on the first "East Coast Earth Night Media Packages" would be Martin, Breakbomb, X Eliot, Vo, Chris Culnane, Number7, Luca Forever, and JakeShore.
The possible people for the first "East Coast Earth Day Media Packages" would be Soni, Will, Jordan, Nick... I should find more of these people.
What else?
I should start / finish my August digital camera recap video.
Consider some solid ways to help Number7, Luca Forever and Space Disco grow as artists / DJs.
Create the last graphics for the boat cruise.
Close the Merrell, South Shore Scores, Noct.161, Selfmade Designs, and Stacy's barbershop deals plus create some more deals (send some hail marries)
Start working on Queen's Carnival vendor program.
Study and book a date to get my drone license.
Plan out my posting and overall Earth Day and Earth Night Media Packages.
What else should I think about?
Playlists and just living man. I have all of these business endeavors that I want to straighten up. I want to get a pretty complete idea of what I want to do with media and branding and everything that surrounds it. I'd like to have a solid vision of this whole thing.
To live well and to be happy, the pursuit of all things well.
Let's grow, learn and pursue the dreams that will become realities. This week will be amazing and it starts now. Everything will be amazing
Love you

A 1-hour long playlist for beginner DJs.
Creating a 1-hour house music playlist for an intermediate DJ level involves selecting tracks that have a good flow and can be mixed smoothly, offering both familiar and less well-known tracks to keep the audience engaged. Below is a sample playlist that includes a variety of house sub-genres, from deep house to tech house to classic house. Each track is approximately 5-6 minutes long, which should provide ample time for transitions. This is an intro/outro mix.
House Music Playlist (1 Hour)
"Cola" - CamelPhat & Elderbrook
A modern classic that starts things off with a groovy vibe.
"On My Mind" - Diplo, SIDEPIECE
A track that has an infectious melody to keep the energy high.
"Turn Me On" - Riton x Oliver Heldens feat. Vula
A catchy tune that everyone will recognize, making it a great crowd-pleaser.
"In The Beginning" - Claptone
A deep house track that provides a nice change of pace.
"Pushing On" - Oliver $, Jimi Jules
A tune that brings some soul into the mix.
"Losing It" - FISHER
A popular track that will get everyone on their feet.
"Heater" - Samim (Tube & Berger Remix)
An energetic tune that adds a dash of exotic flavor.
"After Life" - Tchami feat. Stacy Barthe
A future house track that offers a different texture to the mix.
"Y.O.U.D." - Culoe De Song
A minimalistic track that allows for creative mixing.
"Go" - Moby (Loco Dice Remix)
A rework of a classic track that maintains the vibe while adding a modern touch.
"Pjanoo" - Eric Prydz
A timeless track that's always a crowd-pleaser.
"Music Sounds Better With You" - Stardust
Ending with a classic to leave the crowd on a high note.
This playlist is just a suggestion and can be adjusted based on the crowd's reaction, the venue, and the DJ's personal style. Always remember to read the room and be ready to adapt your set as needed. Happy DJing!

Hardly the First Lyrical Analysis of "Stacy's Mom" by Fountains of Wayne
This morning I was doing my usual routine of completing household chores (bed making, laundry folding, etc.) and listening to my carefully curated boogie playlist while dancing around my room, when I found myself doing something I’m sure every person born after the release of the Sony Playstation has done at least once in their lives--engaging with the lyrics of Fountains of Wayne’s 2003 hit, “Stacy’s Mom”. Absurd and uncomfortable enough in both its subject matter and execution, this favorite of every roller rink and bowling alley DJ for the last seventeen years need not be absorbed with much of a critical ear at all in order for any listener to feel its discomforting effects. The chorus alone already tells the very clear story of “I’m hot for some poor teenage girl’s single mother.” It is important here that I digress for a moment to clarify: I like this song. It was in my boogie playlist for a reason and that reason is because I believe there is a time to dance and a time to think critically and they simply do not overlap. Would a lot of people disagree with me that “Stacy’s Mom” is even a song you can dance to? Probably. Make your own playlist. You can include all of your dumb songs about being attracted to people your own age. People that have more important things to do with their time don’t often extend their critique of the story of Stacy and her hot mom very far beyond the well known chorus or perhaps the first verse. I have found, however, that the more carefully I listened to the lyrics of this song, the more thoughts I had about the plotline being presented to me. Without further delay, I would like to share those thoughts with you.
Introduction
Stacy's mom has got it goin' on
Stacy's mom has got it goin' on
Stacy's mom has got it goin' on
Stacy's mom has got it goin' on
Already, the piece starts off strong by introducing us to both the main subject of the song and a rough idea of the narrator’s perspective on her. Thus far we don’t quite know the full nature of the relationship between Stacy’s mom and the narrator, so we are enticed to continue listening. The repetition of the same line four times could perhaps be representative of an obsession based in desire. This section evokes the image of a young man rocking back and forth in a corner somewhere, repeating to himself the one thing he still knows to be true, “Stacy’s mom has got it goin’ on.”
First Verse
Stacy, can I come over after school?
(After school)
We can hang around by the pool
(Hang by the pool)
Did your mom get back from her business trip?
(Business trip)
Is she there, or is she trying to give me the slip?
(Give me the slip)
Now we are clued in to the narrator’s connection to Stacy’s mom through Stacy, who we know has both a house and a pool and lives with her mom who sometimes goes on business trips. We can assume based on this one sided conversation that Stacy and the narrator are classmates, most likely in middle school or high school. At first, it seems as though the narrator has a genuine interest in spending time with Stacy herself, but any hopes we might have of a happily ever after for her are quickly dashed by the second half of the verse, where we get an even deeper view into the narrator’s fixation on Stacy’s mom. He has even begun experiencing irrational concerns as to whether or not the adult woman who occupies his every thought has been deliberately avoiding him.
Pre Chorus and Chorus
You know, I'm not the little boy that I used to be
I'm all grown up now
Baby, can't you see?
Stacy's mom has got it goin' on
She's all I want
And I've waited for so long
Stacy, can't you see?
You're just not the girl for me
I know it might be wrong but
I'm in love with Stacy's mom
Several contradictory pieces of information have just been presented here. After the narrator explains that he is in fact older than he used to be, which is...duh, he goes on the claim that he is “all grown up now” even though just moments prior, he was discussing hanging out “after school”. If the narrator is truly as grown up as he claims to be, he is either a sad college student or an even sadder adult man whose only friend is a school age girl with a hot mom. We are going to continue to assume he is a delusional teenage boy. He then goes on to boldly state that Stacy’s mother is all that he wants. We are already aware of the unhealthy infatuation the narrator feels for Stacy’s mom, and now our concerns are even further confirmed.
The narrator also briefly touches on Stacy’s possible disappointment at not being pined for by the narrator, but we aren’t actually given enough evidence to suggest this was even something on Stacy’s mind. In fact, we cannot confirm based on the lyrics alone that Stacy is even friends with the narrator. It is possible we are being told a story from a very skewed perspective by a teenage narcissist completely consumed by his feelings for a suburban woman. The final nail in the coffin of this section of the song is when the narrator acknowledges that his feelings “might be wrong”. We can infer that the reason this fantasy relationship “might be wrong” is because the narrator is much too young for Stacy’s mom. This refreshing awareness could lead us to believe that the narrator understands that his love for his classmate’s mom is nothing more than an ordinary teenage crush.
Second Verse and Second Pre Chorus
Stacy, do you remember when I mowed your lawn?
(Mowed your lawn)
Your mom came out with just a towel on
(Towel on)
I could tell she liked me from the way she stared
(The way she stared)
And the way she said
"You missed a spot over there"
(A spot over there)
And I know that you think it's just a fantasy
But since your dad walked out
Your mom could use a guy like me
That’s it officer. That right there is the line that fucked me up in the middle of my morning. Up until now an argument could be made that the narrator is just wrapped up tight in a daydream that he is somewhat rationally aware of. But now we can see that he is, in fact, really trying to plead his case for why he should bone down with Stacy’s mom.
Outro
Stacy's mom, oh, oh
(I'm in love with)
Stacy's mom, oh, oh
(Wait a minute)
Stacy, can't you see?
You're just not the girl for me
I know it might be wrong but
I'm in love with Stacy's mom
The most resonating line in the whole song is perhaps that parenthetical backup vocal line, “wait a minute,” I agree. Pump the brakes, Fountains of Wayne. You’ve just divulged way more than I think anyone--including you--were prepared for. This track should have included one full minute of contemplative silence at the end of the original release. And yes, I do mean for the radio version as well. The least a music producer could do for an audience is allow a moment to regroup and reevaluate after hearing such a Donny Darko-esque confession by a grown man representing the character of a teenage boy. Therapists don’t schedule their appointments back to back, and I’m even less qualified to hear something like this.
To view this song simply as bowling alley pop music would be a waste of time. “Stacy’s Mom” by Fountains of Wayne is a macabre, absurdist microscope on early-2000’s American suburbia, and the failings of a sex-negative modern culture on the mental well-being of sexually frustrated teens, masquerading as a charmingly perverted Top 40 pop tune.

How would a movie function without a score? Would you find yourself invested in a movie if you didn’t have a Hans Zimmer time ticking score in the background? Or how would you feel if John Williams never created the famous Prologue to our beloved Harry Potter franchise? It would be.... boring. You’d be watching actors on the screen talking. Music adds the emphasis and depth to further engross you into the picture. Truthfully, we all would be lost without scores from movies to listening to it in the background while you’re completing work.
It’s DJ Toni with an EXCLUSIVE LOCATIONS playlist. Played throughout the lobby of Catalina Casino, visitors get submerged into the movie experience long before they take their rightful seats in the theater for their selected picture. We’d like to give a major shoutout to Stacy, the manager of Catalina Casino, for giving us permission to share this playlist with you all.

Walking on sunshine - Bechloe Mini Fic pt 7
I realize I have not posted in a very very long time... and I am sorry... I am posting 2 chapters for this mini fic today and I am working on the next one as we speak! So I am getting back out there!!
Chapter 7: It must have been love
The girls are all getting dressed with an 80s playlist blaring in the background, getting them all in the mood. Leave it to Maddie to decide that a themed hen night is what she wants. Everyone is dressing up in vintage clothes, and tuning their hair and makeup into the selected time.
They are all having a ton of fun, messing with each other while helping simultaneously. All the girls have their own costume they are picking. Or a certain style. Aubrey and Stacy had decided to take on a prep school look with Sperry Top-Siders, to show off intelligence yet still looking sexy as hell.
Fat Amy, Maddie and Chloe had each decided on a specific outfit that resembles Cindy Lauper in some way.  Maddie even going as far as putting on a blonde wig. This only because when they were younger, they were obsessed with her hit song ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun’. A motto at least 2 have lived by since.  Chloe just loved the song but couldn’t decide whether this was something she wanted to be remembered by for the rest of her life, and still isn’t.
Titziana, who is joining the gang, is sporting pooled up cringed hair. Wearing a black dress and a jean jacket on top. Showing off just enough cleavage to attract the other gender for sure. Emily, on the other hand, is wearing high-waisted jeans and a Coca Cola crop top sweater, and having her hair curled perfectly.
The girls all make it to the club around 10 PM and instantly pull each other towards the bar to take some shots. Maddie is the first one to semi reluctantly pour one down while the rest cheers her on. Shortly after the other girls, minus Emily, since she’s pretending to be pregnant for Maddie, and can’t drink.
The DJ watches the girls go loose and spots their outfits and instantly turns up the volume and blasting Fat Amy, Chloe and Maddie’s all-time favourite through the speakers. The girls go wild and head over to the dance floor, to dance until their hearts are beating like crazy. Flirting and just being free from everything. The wedding, lies, and everything that is attached to what has occurred in the past few days.
At the club, Fat Amy and Aubrey had prepared a little surprise for everyone. They had hired some strippers. Both male a female, to spice up the evening. Maddie is really put on the spot but loves every second of it. How could she not? She has two sexy firemen grinding in her lap while three real-life pilots are already being pulled aside by Back at the club, Chloe is watching her sister getting handsy with the strippers, laughing her heart out, trying to remember everything for the following day. But deep inside she knows that she should not be here, not at the club, nor in Puglia and especially not at the wedding tomorrow. She can’t do it to herself, nor to her sister. She can’t keep pretending that everything is fine when it’s not.
Chloe manages to sneak out of the club, to grab some fresh air and think things over. She wouldn’t be able to forgive herself if she would have made an irrational decision without really thinking about it. She needs to put all her feelings into a neat line. Not just for her own sake.
Meanwhile, Beca, Jesse, Mike and Benji are having a blast, walking around town in their own 80s themed costumes. Beca having chosen a simple outfit, black jeans with a white shirt, topping it off with an army band jacket. Jesse is covering his musical movie tracks and wearing a white shirt with a leather jacket and high jeans with aviator sunglasses. Mikey is keeping it cool with his hair smoothly gelled backwards and a white button-up shirt. Benji is casually wearing a coloured polo shirt tucked into his jeans.
The four of them are cruising around town, from bar to bar. Enjoying Beca’s last night as a free woman together. Eventually, they stumble into a strip club, well slightly pulling Beca towards one, not giving her a chance to change her mind or even protest.
Beca is pushed into a chair, handed over another drink and gets a brunette shoved into her lap. If it wasn’t for her wedding the following day and her still raging feelings for her fiancee’s sister. She would be at least enjoying it. Right now though, she can’t seem to let go and just sits there with a forced smile, waiting for everything to be over. The night, and especially the wedding.
She quickly excuses herself from her chair and tells her brother that she needs some air after all the alcohol she has consumed. She heads out and sits down at the edge of a fountain, just taking her time to think. Her mind keeps playing back the memories of 3 years ago, and the memories of earlier that day. Could Chloes really not feel anything for her? Did she ever, really?
Beca has been sitting outside for about 30 minutes when Jesse stumbles towards her in a slightly inebriated state. Knowing that his little sister needs some guidance or at least support. He remembers how heartbroken she was when Chloe left and how Beca had not dated for over a year after that. He was there, every night when she cried, or more to say she pretended not to cry but he knew better.
“Hey, you all right?” Jesse asks, his voice filled with concern, and slightly slurred speech.
Beca rolls her eyes and watches her brother sit down. “Yeah, I’m fine.” She says once she knows the almost drunken mess next to her is ok. The brunette looks away, her mind yet again consumed by a bright flash of red.
“What’s up Becs?” Jesse asks. Not actually receiving more than a hum from his little sister as an answer.
It takes Beca a second to really clear her thoughts before she speaks up. “Just can’t wait for the wedding to be over.” She says with a sigh. “Just wanna be married already.” That was no lie. Once the wedding is over, she can be happy with Maddie. Maybe even manage to not see Chloe ever again.
Jesse grunts at his sisters' words. “You got a whole lifetime of that, sorellina (little sister).
Rolling her eyes, Beca mumbles a quick. “I know.”
“Enjoy your last night of liberty.” Jesse gently punches Beca on her should and tries to urge her to get up. “Come on!” Falling into an uncomfortable silence, seeing his sister really grind her thoughts together about the only person she has really loved, he takes a deep breath and frowns at the following words he says. “Do you wanna talk about it?”
“About what?” Beca asks, not really feeling in the mood. Nor wanting to make her brother uncomfortable.
“Look,” Jesse starts, not wanting to give up just yet. “is this about Chloe?” He asks, even though he clearly knows the answer to that question. “I’ve got to ask…” He adds when Beca looks away with an eye roll. “… have you still got feelings for her?”
Beca scoffs at the insinuation. “No, that would be really stupid. No.” She says defensively.
Clearing his throat, Jesse asks: “Are you sure?” Needing to know. He doesn’t want to see Beca, nor Maddie, hell not even Chloe hurt by this entire ordeal. When Beca doesn’t immediately say anything, Jesse just stares at her until she looks back at him.
Finally, Beca manages to breathe out a gentle “Yeah.”
“Allora…” (So…), Jesse draws out, falling into a giggle when he sees Beca’s smile coming back slowly. “Can we duct-tape you to a pole now, please?”
Beca mentally facepalms herself when she remembers her predicament. Yet it was a tradition in the family. Whoever gets married, will get duct-taped or bound to a pole. She rolls her eyes and whispers “In a minute.” Jesse takes this as a win and heads back inside to get Benji and Mike.
A few blocks away, Chloe walks out of the club into the night. Her mind filled with all and nothing at the same time. Yet one thing, one name keeps bouncing around without ever leaving Beca.
The redhead walks further away from the entrance and hides behind a corner. Tears are threatening to spill from her eyes. She starts to remember all the moments between her and Beca, how they talked even without speaking. “Lay a whisper, on my pillow. Leave the winter, on the ground.” The words all pour out of her in a rush. Remembering how she felt when Beca wasn’t there. “I wake up lonely, the stare of silence, in the bedroom, all around.”
A bad habit she had picked up over the years, yet one that could always soothe her nerves. Talking to herself when she’s alone. Pretending to be speaking to the brunette that holds her heart. “Touch me now, I close my eyes. And dream away.”
She pushes herself off the wall and starts walking to who knows where not caring about anything at that moment. “It must have been love,” Chloe quietly admits to herself, not ever having voiced the thought after having left Puglia 3 years ago. They had told each other as much, but they were young. They didn’t know what the word meant at the time. “But it’s over now.” She says almost melancholically.
“It must have been good, but I lost it somehow.” Think about the words she’s saying, the redhead becomes more confident and starts to really understand her feelings. “It must have been love, but it’s over now. From the moment we touched, till the time it ran out.”
On the other side of the small town square, Beca is still sitting at the edge of the fountain. Her mind running a million miles an hour. Trying to sort out what she and Chloe are, or better were. “Make-believing, we’re together. That I’m sheltered by your heart.” The brunette feels cheated. Hardly processing the fact that Chloe never loved her. “But in and outside I turned to water, like a teardrop in your palm.”
The brunette’s heart feels heavy. She hasn’t wrapped her head around meeting Maddie. Proposing to her so soon after they met, even though it did feel right at the time. Losing the love of her life… NO, she has met the love of her life. Maddie is supposed to be the love of her life. “And it’s a hard winter’s day, I dream away.” Shaking her head, Beca gets up and decides to walk around for a bit. Feeling a need to stretch her legs.
Chloe sighs heavily and looks up to the moon as she walks towards the fountain where Beca had been just moments ago. “It must have been love, but it’s over now. It was all that I wanted, now I’m living without.”
Beca doesn’t notice the equally distraught Chloe as she walks away in the exposit direction. “It must have been love, but it’ over now. It’s where the water flows. It’s where the wind blows…” She doesn’t get too far, as Mike grabs her and throws her over his shoulder. Laughing the night away together with Benji and Jesse.
Chloe hears the laughter and sees the four. She quickly hides behind a wall and peeks to see what’s going on. They don’t seem to notice her, being too drunk and busy, trying to keep Beca on Mikey’s shoulder.
Having just seen the brunette, even from a distance. Chloe knows what she has to do, there is no way she could stay here. She had to go, as far away as possible. No time for goodbyes. No time for explanation, I’m sorry’s’ or feelings. With a steady pace Chloe walks further away from the party, from her sister and Beca Mitchel.
She makes it home around 30 minutes later after hailing a cab. She rushed to her room and quickly packs her suitcase. The only thing she leaves out is her bride’s maid dress. She leaves it on the bed, needing to really let go of her past that will become the future in a few hours time.
While packing her bag with her favourite book she brought over to read in her spare time, she finds an old picture of her and Beca being as happy as they ever had seemed to be. Sighing heavily, she shoves the picture together with the book in her bag and heads out to where the cab is still waiting for her, to take her to the airport.
In the car, she can’t help but look back at the picture that once used to bring her joy. She ponders about how she could talk to her sister about this later on. If her sister would ever talk to her again that is.
Finally deciding it’s time to fully let go, Chloe lets the old picture fly out of the moving cab as she sheds a single tear. Goodbye Beca. Goodby Puglia. Good luck Maddie.

25 Days of BeChloe Christmases - 2019
DAY 4 - LOVE WILL LEAD YOU BACK
Prompt from FanFiction User malexfaith: Inspired by the Taylor Dane song "Love Will Lead You Back." (See the full prompt at the end of the story).
Nights like this made Beca hate being the Bellas Captain. She longed for the days of her Freshman Year when she could use any one of a number of excuses not to go out with the Bellas.
Beca sat at the table that Stacie had talked some guys into giving up for them. She sipped her beer and peeled the label off the bottle. She cringed at hearing a seriously off-key version of All I Want For Christmas Is You.
"Why aren't you dancing, Beca?" Stacie asked as she flopped into the chair next to Beca.
"Don't feel like it," Beca said, downing the rest of her beer. "Oh, look, I'm empty. I think I'll go get another."
Beca stood up, and Stacie grabbed her arm. "No worries, we got you covered."
Just then, Amy and the other girls came back to the table. Amy had a tray of shots while CR was carrying a tray with fresh drinks for everyone.
"Great," Beca mumbled as she sat back down.
"Come on, Beca," Amy said. "It's Christmas Eve. Celebrate a little."
"Yeah, Beca," Staci said, handing Beca a shot.
Beca took the shot and held it, knowing someone would make a toast before they downed them. Beca smiled a sad smile as she thought about how Chloe was usually the one making the holiday toast.
"Here's to Christmas and getting everything you want," CR said, and the girls downed their shots.
"Gross," Beca said, grimacing. "You guys are hitting the hard stuff early."
"We're all excited for Christmas, Beca," Ashley said, laughing.
"Here," Amy said, passing a beer to Beca. "Wash it down with this."
"Thanks," Beca said and took a drink of the beer. "Ugh, that shot made my beer taste bad."
"Let's dance!" Stacie squealed, and the rest of the Bellas did as well. They all stood, and Stacie held out her hand to Beca. "Let's go, Captain!"
"You guys go ahead," Beca said, remaining seated. "I'm not feeling it right now."
"Come on, Stacie," Jessica yelled from the dance floor.
"Go," Beca said, waving Stacie away.
"Okay," Stacie said. "But, I will get you out there to dance."
Stacie turned and danced her way over to the other Bellas.
Beca sipped at her beer as her mind wandered to another night out where she was forced to dance.
"Come on, Becs," Chloe said, leaning into Beca. "Dance with me."
"I'm not much of a dancer," Beca said.
"Don't lie to me, Mitchell," Chloe said, grabbing Beca and pulling her out of her chair. "I've seen the way you move during Bellas rehearsals."
"That's because it's all choreographed," Beca said. "This would just be me looking stupid."
"I won't let that happen," Chloe said, dragging Beca toward the dance floor. "Just follow me."
Beca followed Chloe, and they danced. Beca even managed to look like she knew what she was doing as long as she followed Chloe's lead.
Beca realized she would follow Chloe anywhere. Sadly, the realization came after Chloe left and Beca was still here.
Beca wiped a tear that threatened to fall down her cheek. "Why can't I get her out of my mind," Beca thought.
"Are you okay, Beca?" Stacie asked, forcing Beca out of her thoughts.
"What? Yeah, I'm fine," Beca said, looking down at the table.
"I know you miss her," Stacie said.
"I wasn't thinking about Chloe," Beca said a little too quickly.
"I didn't mention her name," Stacie retorted.
"I'm sorry," Beca said softly. "I thought that we had something. It hurts to know we had nothing."
"You two had, no, you two have something," Stacie said. "You just didn't tell Chloe how you felt, so she did what she had to do to move on."
"How do you tell your best friend that you fell in love with her?" Beca said. "I thought she'd still be with us and graduate when we did. She always said she failed Russian Lit to stay with the Bellas. Why did she decide to pass last year and go away?"
"I have an answer, but you're not going to like it," Stacie said.
"I'm an idiot?" Beca asked. "Is that your answer."
"In a manner of speaking," Stacie said. "I know you were scared, but we're talking about Chloe here. If she wasn't into you like that, she would have let you down nicely. You never gave her a chance to know you were interested."
"Because I'm not good with that stuff," Beca said. "Talking about my feelings, pouring out my emotions, that's what Chloe does. I thought if she felt anything for me, she would have said something."
"What would you have done if she had?" Stacie asked.
Beca let out a humorless laugh. "I probably would have become flustered and ran away from her."
"Exactly," Stacie said. "She knew that if anything was going to happen between you two, you were going to have to be the one to initiate it."
"Where was this sage advice when I really needed it?" Beca asked.
"It wasn't for me or anyone else to tell you," Stacie said. "You had to figure it out on your own."
Beca chewed on her bottom lip and stared down at the table.
"You should come dance with us," Stacie said. "Get your mind off things."
"Okay," Beca said and let Stacie lead her to the dance floor.
~ Day 4 of 2019's 25 Days of BeChloe Christmases ~
An hour later, the Bellas were all drunk, including their Captain. Another round of shots and drinks found their way to their table and passed around.
"Here's to the Bellas winning their fourth ICCAs this year," Stacie yelled and downed her shot.
"Hear, hear," the other Bellas yelled and downed their shots.
"Oh, God," Beca said, slurring her words. "I have to work on the shet for Shecshinalsh."
"We already have the set for Sectionals," CR said, laughing at Beca.
"We do?" Beca asked her eyes wide. "Ish it good?"
"It's the best," the Bellas yell in unison.
"I should have gone home for Chrishmish," Beca said. "And why can't I say wordsh? Wordsh?" Beca tried to see her lips and why they weren't working. She gave up and leaned toward Stacie. "Whatsh the word I'm looking for?"
Stacie laughed and said, "You just said it."
"I did?' Beca asked. "What ish it?"
"Word," Stacie said.
"Eggshactly," Beca said, causing Stacie and CR to laugh.
"You're drunk," Amy said, shaking her head. "You're such a lightweight."
"Hey!" Beca yelled. "I am not." Beca moved her arm to put it on the table and missed it. "I totesh am. Woo hoo! I'm drunk!"
Beca started laughing as if she had said the funniest thing ever. The rest of the Bellas started laughing at Beca.
Beca stopped laughing and started crying. "I mish her sho much."
"Oh, shit," CR said. "She's crossed over to the emotional side."
"Who do you miss, Beca?" Amy asked with a mischievous grin.
"Amy, don't," Stacie admonished.
"I mish Chloe," Beca said and laid her head on the table as she sobbed uncontrollably. "I love her so much!"
"I knew it!" Amy yelled, throwing her fist in the air.
"Dammit," Stacie mumbled, putting her arm across Beca's shoulders. "Come on, Becs. You hate to cry in front of people. Especially people you don't know."
Beca's head jerked up, hitting Stacie on the chin.
"Ow," Stacie said, pulling away from Beca and putting her hand to her chin.
"Ish people looking at me?" Beca asked, wiping her face and looking around.
"Just us, Beca," Jessica said as the Bellas stared wide-eyed at Beca. "I've never seen her get this far gone before."
"I'm going to go," Beca said and stood from her chair. "I, uh, I'm gonna go home."
Beca swayed, and CR grabbed her to keep her from falling.
"Stay here with us, Beca," CR said, pushing Beca back in her seat.
"M'kay," Beca said.
"Someone get her some water," Stacie said.
Ashley jumped up. "I'll get it."
"Beca, Ashley is getting you some water," Stacie said, holding Beca's face so she would look at her. "When she gets back, I want you to drink it all, okay?"
"Kay," Beca said with a goofy grin on her face as she stared at Stacie. She reached up and ran her hand down Stacie's face. "You're pretty."
"You're pretty, too," Stacie said, smiling as Beca started patting her cheek.
"You know who elsh ish pretty?" Beca asked, dropping her hand to her lap.
"Who?" Stacie asked.
"Chloe," Beca said wistfully. "Chloe ish soooooooooo pretty."
"Yes, Chloe is pretty, too," Stacie said, smiling. She hated to admit it, but Drunk Beca was one of her favorite Becas.
"Here you go, Stacie," Ashley said, holding out two bottles of water.
"Thanks, Ash," Stacie said as CR took the water.
CR opened one of the bottles and handed it to Stacie. Stacie kept one hand under Beca's chin to hold her head up. She put the bottle to Beca's lips.
"Drink up, Beca," Stacie said.
Beca sputtered a bit but drank down the water.
~ Day 4 of 2019's 25 Days of BeChloe Christmases ~
After two bottles of water, a bathroom break, and going outside into the crisp air, Beca was now less drunk but not quite sober.
"God," Beca said, holding her head in her hands. "Why did you guys let me drink sho," Beca cleared her throat, "so much."
"We tried to stop you," Jessica said. "But Amy was helping you by handing you shot after shot."
"She needed to let loose," Amy said. "And it worked."
"You're lucky it's Chrishmish. Ugh, Christmas," Beca said, glaring at Amy. She suddenly furrowed her brow and looked around. "Where's Lily?"
"I'm not sure I want to know," CR said.
"Me, either," Ashley said.
Someone got up to sing another rendition of All I Want For Christmas Is You, and Bece cringed.
"Don't you have any other songs on your playlist?" Beca yelled, looking over at the karaoke DJ.
"It's a romantic holiday song, Beca," Jessica said. "They're singing it to let their significant other know that they want them for Christmas."
"Don't you want someone to be yours for Christmas?" Ashley asked.
Beca glared at her and snarled, "No, I don't. And thanks for the reminder that I don't have anyone."
Ashley raised her hands and sat back in her chair.
"Then what do you want for Christmas, Beca?" Stacie asked. "If Santa were here, standing in front of you and said you could have whatever you wanted, what would you ask for?"
"That's a great question," CR said. "I think I'd ask for a steady stream of money so I could do whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted."
"I'd ask for a nice house," Ashley said. "All paid for so I wouldn't have a mortgage or rent payment."
"I'd ask for a nice modern cabin where I could go on vacation," Jessica said. "It would look rustic on the outside, but have all the modern conveniences on the inside."
"I'd ask for someone to love me as much as I love them," Stacie said with a sigh. "Retire the hunter for good."
Beca laughed. "I thought you found that someone with Aubrey."
"I did," Stacie said with a smile. "But I'm not sure Aubrey loves me as much as I love her."
"Are you kidding?" Beca asked incredulously. "You two are forever." Beca sighed. "That's what I want. I want what you and Aubrey have. I, um, thought I could have that, but now, I don't think it's a possibility anymore."
"You could still have that, Beca," Stacie said.
"She's right, Beca," CR said. "You just need to reach out to Chloe and let her know how you feel."
"I never mentioned Chloe," Beca said. "I could be talking about someone else."
"Are you?" CR asked with a raised eyebrow.
"No," Beca said and sighed. She blushed a bit before adding, "All I want for Christmas is Chloe."
"Go sing about it," Stacie said. "Find a song that says what you want to say to Chloe and sing it. You always said you let the music speak for you. So, let it."
"Yeah, Beca," Amy said. "It beats having you moping around all the time."
"Give it a shot, Beca," CR encouraged her.
Beca grimaced and looked around the table. "You're right. I'm going to do it."
Beca got up and stumbled toward the karaoke DJ, and the girls cheered her on. She asked to see the list of songs and started looking through them. She saw one that caught her eye, and she smiled. She pointed it out to the DJ and gave her name.
"You're up after this one," the DJ told her.
Beca nodded and went back over to the table. "I'm going to need a drink after this."
"I'll buy you a drink," CR said. "And it will be waiting here for you when you are done."
It wasn't long before Beca's name was called. She made her way to the stage and took the microphone.
"Um, before I start," Beca said to the crowd. "I just want to say, if you love someone, tell them. Don't let another moment go by without them knowing how you feel. I kept my mouth shut out of fear and lost someone who I believe is the love of my life. I am living in a world where I hope someday she realizes she has feelings for me, and she comes back to me. That love will lead her back."
Beca swallowed and nodded at the DJ. The music started, and Beca took a breath before she started singing.
Saying goodbye Is never an easy thing But you never said that you'd stay forever So if you must go Well, darlin', I'll set you free But I know in time that we'll be together
I won't try to stop you now from leaving 'Cause in my heart I know
Love will lead you back Someday I just know that Love will lead you back to my arms Where you belong
Stacie's phone pinged with a text. After reading it, she smiled and left the table. She continued to watch and listen as she made her way to the back of the bar.
I'm sure, sure as stars are shining One day you will find me again It won't be long One of these days our love will lead you back
One of these nights Well I'll hear your voice again You're gonna say, oh how much you missed me You'll walk out this door But someday you'll walk back in Darling I know, I know this will be
Sometimes it takes, some time out on your own now To find your way back home
Love will lead you back Someday I just know that Love will lead you back to my arms Where you belong
Stacie walked back over to the table and sat down. She sipped her drink as she listened to Beca.
"I'm going to get Beca's beer," CR said.
"Don't," Stacie said. "She's going to need to be sober."
"Okay," CR said. "I'm going to get me another beer. Can I bring you anything?"
Stacie shook her head, and CR went to the bar.
I'm sure, sure as stars are shining One day you will find me again It won't be long One of these days our love will lead you back, oh
I won't try to stop you now from leaving 'Cause in my heart I know, oh yeah
Love will lead you back Someday I just know that Love will lead you back to my arms Where you belong
I'm sure, sure as stars are shining One day you will find me again It won't be long One of these days our love will lead you back, oh yeah
Love will lead you back Someday I just know that Love will lead you back to my arms It won't be long
One of these days Our love will lead you back
The song ended, and the crowd applauded and cheered; none more so than the Bellas. Beca thanked everyone and turned to hand the mic back to the DJ. She froze when she saw a certain redhead standing just behind him, with tears in her eyes and a big smile on her face.
"Chloe?"
Beca threw the mic to the DJ and jumped off the stage. She stumbled as she landed, but Chloe caught her by the arms before she fell to the floor. Beca stood in front of Chloe and stared at her.
"Hey, Becs," Chloe said, releasing Beca's arms.
"What are you doing here?" Beca asked.
"Well, I had to come back to get something I forgot," Chloe said.
"What did you forget?" Beca asked, confused.
"You," Chloe said, causing Beca's breath to hitch.
"Wha-, um, what does that mean?"
"It means love has led me back to you," Chloe said. "I love you, too, Becs."
Beca rushed forward and grabbed Chloe in a hug. Chloe let out a small sob and pulled Beca tighter to her.
"I'm glad you came back," Beca whispered with tears in her eyes.
"So am I," Chloe whispered back, sniffling.
Beca pulled back from the hug and stared into Chloe's eyes. She smiled and said, "May I kiss you?"
"I'd be hurt if you didn't," Chloe said and closed the distance between their lips.
The Bellas could be heard yelling and screaming behind Chloe. Stacie looked at Aubrey and smiled before kissing her.
Beca and Chloe ended their kiss, and Beca reached up to wipe Chloe's tears.
"Um, how long are you here for?" Beca asked, not sure she wanted to know the answer.
"At least until May," Chloe said. "The teaching job in New York was only for this semester. Aubrey's hired me as a temp to help her at the retreat."
"Why only until May?" Beca asked.
"Because that's when you graduate," Chloe said. "And I'm hoping to convince you to ask me to go wherever you go."
Beca's smile got wider. "Even if I'm going all the way across the country to LA? Away from your best friend and your family?"
"I'll go with you even if you go to LA," Chloe said without any thought. "You're my best friend. My family. The love of my life. I'll go wherever you ask me to."
"Then I'm asking you to move to LA with me," Beca said, smiling.
"Then I'm moving to LA with you," Chloe said, smiling back at her.
Beca kissed Chloe again. The ended the kiss when they both couldn't stop smiling.
"I got exactly what I asked Santa for," Beca said. "Merry Christmas to me!"
"Me, too," Chloe said and leaned it to kiss Beca again.
Stacie and Aubrey watched Beca and Chloe. When they kissed again, Stacie said, "Looks like we both know our best friends better than they know themselves."
"It didn't take much convincing to get Chloe to come," Aubrey said. "It took a lot to keep her from jumping Beca as soon as we got here."
Chloe pulled back from the kiss to catch her breath. She leaned her forehead against Beca's.
"I love you, Becs," Chloe whispered.
"I love you, too, Chloe."

Full Prompt from malexfaith: Inspired by the Taylor Dane song Love Will Lead You Back. One of them is asked what their Christmas wish is... I'm thinking of having them think about it and then getting up on stage singing that song. To have the other hiding in the crowd, and Christmas wish granted.
