We were watching the glass blowing competition show on netflix because it's really cool to see those talented artists do their thing...

But I will NEVER forgive the judges for eliminating an amazing artist who's concept was that plastic hamster tubes are actually dangerous for hamsters yet they are normalized in our society so they made a beautiful glass rendition of an endless loop of colorful hamster tubes as an expression of how we can be trapped by society in a loop of behavior that is normalized but actually killing us

And the judges were like "this isnt DEEP ENOUGH" because they dont care enough about hamsters to learn and interpret the artist's statement at the level it was meant for.

They literally saw the glass renditions of colorful tubes that represent suffering and being trapped in a glossy predesigned hell and went "this is too normal and isnt saying anything important actually" Fuck them!!!!

Anyways Gemma should have won and I'm so happy to see that she didn't let it stop her amazing concept and she continued with it outside of the time constraints of the show. Fuck yes Gemma

This was certainly going to be a refreshing experience. Miyabi had joined these patrols before, but that felt like a million years ago. With the creation of Section 6, certain tasks were things of the past. Though, some key connections always gave her the respite she needed from time to time.

Seth had coaxed her dodgy nature by introducing her to more fun aspects of the job. Well, his job. She was taking the opportunity to take off hers. Miyabi would grin at the brilliance of it, but then she would most definitely give herself away.

With the way that Section 6 was run, Miyabi had built a certain tempo for work. Find out the facts, filter through the nonsense, and eventually get to the conclusion -- usually through fighting. She was used to fixing problems the hard way. Maybe, this excursion could teach her that violence wasn't the only way to speak?

When other Yellowjackets fans, majority who are poc themselves, talk about how weird and frustrating it is that the writers introduced a random yte character and gave them a storyline when there were two (technically three but they killed off Lottie even when there was an opportunity for more) woc, who have been around since s1, that could've fit the mold instead (like Mari) and have actual personalities outside of building up/being the lapdog for another character. Or how often times many of the, limited, poc characters are often either treated poorly and killed off, or pushed to the side (Simone, reduced to the disposable black girlfriend trope and is nearly killed by her partner because she's in the way of a ship; Travis, since s1, had his trauma dismissed or ignored and was overly hated but no one talks about how he was SA'd by the girls he's now stuck with on top of having to eat his brother and not be able to grieve over it). How Taissa's whole storyline is just revolving around Van even with all the potential, especially given she's fighting to be free from her own mind, how Lottie's mental illness is treated so poorly as if it's not the butt of a joke then it's met with heavy criticism (and the only time she is met with sympathy for it, it's through the lens of a yte character embodying her and having an emotional conversation with her father). How you can have all of these reasons (and more) for being annoyed by Melissa's character or the direction of the show, and be met with #those fans downplaying these concerns, or just being overly antagonistic just because they find yte character #243 entertaining so obviously these conversations don't have merit. But this fandom has always had an...."interesting" way in which it discussed the poc characters on the show, so I'm not surprised.

Thinking about Rook and Harding's relationship through the lens of Varric's death like. It's crystal clear it has a big impact on Lace - she's angry and distraught in its aftermath, has to psych herself up just to approach the ritual site ("You need to do it, Lace, it needs to be done"). When Rook suggests that she can use her powers to protect people, the first thing she thinks about is that she could've used them to protect people who mattered to her.

But she sees none of that in Rook. Rook comes across as standoffish at best. "Varric knew the danger." There's no in-game chance to reach out to Harding to share that grief, talk about how it affected them.

But it's not like Rook has to do that, right? Maybe they are not that kind of person. Maybe they grieve, but they don't show it, maybe Harding realises she and Rook just aren't as close as she thought they were, and that kind of stings, but you know. What can she do?

But then things happen in the plot. Weisshaupt happens, Shathann, Cyrian. There are so many chances for Rook to express how sorry they are about someone's passing, the loss of life (and Warden Rook especially does not just observe loss, they experience it and don't have to hide it). Harding sees that Rook can reach out to friends in difficult times. They attend the funeral with Bellara, comfort Taash when they need it. They can grieve, and they can help someone through grieving.

And there's that certain feeling of misunderstanding, maybe a hint of resentment, that Harding, a people pleaser, wouldn't dare to confront. What can she say, even? Why are you mourning all those people and not our common friend? Why not Varric? Why not Varric?

Then, she either dies, never finding out the truth, or finds out the truth so late that the rift between her and Rook has become so big they can't just fill it in. She can't undo the way she had been feeling, feeling about something Rook had no idea about. Tricked by Solas, manipulated to think that Varric was alive. Robbed of the chance to grieve a friend together, time lost forever.

uhh. thinking about lestat and louis invading claudia’s privacy by reading her diaries. lestat saying her diaries are ‘inked with ungratefulness’ asserting his parental right over her body -> claudia writing that she couldn’t dream in 2.01 driving louis to despair until he realises that ‘it was just something she wrote’. she was no longer necessarily writing truthful accounts about her days anymore -> claudia altering the way she makes entries in her diaries so that it no longer records her history, but idle thoughts instead, after her initiation into the coven in accordance with the great laws -> claudia handing over her diary to santiago confidently in 2.04 when he creeps up on her without fearing judgement/punishment for her opinions because she’s probably not recording her feelings with any honesty at this point -> claudia no longer recording her story in her diaries once she escapes paris with madeleine. she’s editorialising and shaping her own narrative even through her diaries, refusing interpretation because she knows her privacy is not being respected by the people around her. this is largely in response to the various men in her life insisting on imposing their largely inane laws on her and constantly denying her agency. of course she gives up the exercise entirely once she’s able to liberate herself from the patriarchal/familial/institutional frameworks that rule her life up until this point.
