no one talks about how horrifying of a concept asylum of the daleks has. to be so convinced of your humanity that you cannot accept the fact that you have become a monster, to have lived in a dreamt up world inside your head despite its nonsensical rules because the reality is far too disturbing to bear.

No.1 Clara Oswald defender
Tumblr media
If there’s a million Clara Oswald defenders, I’m one of them. If there’s one Clara Oswald defender, it’s me. If there’s NO Clara Oswald defenders, I’m dead but best believe I’m gonna do the impossible and come back from the dead to defend Clara Oswald.

he had to actively stop himself from saying "do i look like people"
bonus: five minutes, i promise
(the doctorification of clara begins here. not really, it's been a theme even earlier, ever since the snowmen, ever since she grabbed his hand and ran)

A couple months ago I made a post about how I thought the reason Clara was the impossible girl should have been something tied thematically to The Doctor's storyline of his name. Just like Clara accepted The Doctor for the person he chose to become and didn't care for his 'real' name, the answer to the mystery of the impossible girl should have been something that made The Doctor accept Clara for who she was, and I implied the echoes didn't do that.
But with time I've come to the realization that the echoes do actually tie thematically to The Doctor's name in a way.
The big answer the echoes bring isn't how Clara is the impossible girl but why she is. Her big character moment isn't jumping into The Doctor's time stream, but why she did it, and she did it because she was brave and heroic enough to risk her life to save all of reality. It isn't about she being this inherently special being, but who she is as a person.
And how can't The Doctor accept her? How can't he accept the answer being something like that?
I think this also greatly sets up The 12th Doctor's relationship with Clara.
From The Doctor's side, he was already feeling guilty over the death of the two echoes he met and now he discovers Clara has been dying to protect him through his entire life? Of course he is going to develop an insane 'duty of care', but simultaneously it also makes sense for The Doctor to start acting like a dog for Clara lmao.
From Clara's side, it really adds to the codependency and inability of both to let go from the other which gets so bad they are willing to die god knows how much and mess with all of reality. The echoes also add to Clara's tendency to risk her life and play being 'Doctor', and they also parallel The Doctor's name as they are the promise that Clara will always protect The Doctor which ties greatly with Death In Heaven.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Although, I think this could have been better if it wasn't something inherently tied to The Doctor. It's easier to accept someone for who they are if they have saved you a billion times because they love you a whole lot, while Clara had to accept The Doctor entirely for who he was. But I do think it still works, The Doctor already loves Clara for who she is anyways, the echoes just really add to the obsessive nature of their relationship.

I was watching Doctor Who for the millionth time and I realized something
the eleventh doctor always says "never ignore a coincidence unless you're busy"
and that could have come from what happened to Donna.
around her was an acquaintance who took her to the Tardis, to the doctor and to all the events that would lead her to the episode "Journey's End".
the doctor didn't see the coincidences and when I went he didn't care. He only realized what was happening at the end (actually the clone that came from his hand noticed it first)
So it must have been after these events that he started using that phrase.
it was probably just "never ignore a coincidence", but since the doctor is the doctor he had to have this condition.

Something I noticed while rewatching the 11th Doctor's episodes is the cognitive dissonance of being told Amy is sexy vs her presentation and her storylines being very unsexy. Like, we're told she's a kissogram and we're shown she likes wearing outfits that show off her legs. There's also a line about her favorite subject in school being Romans ("invasion of the hot Italians" as she says). But we're introduced to her as a very serious child, and shown (by Prisoner Zero mimicking her) that as an adult, she sees the world through the lens of meeting the Doctor as a child. She sounds uncomfortable admitting she's a kissogram, like she's unhappy about it. Her first TARDIS adventure, she's wearing a nightgown. She lives with her family before marrying Rory. A LOT of her storylines revolve around children. When we ARE shown flashbacks of her in school, we see she's being responsible while Mels is being reckless. Her big character developments are marriage, having a child, divorce, and then reunion with Rory- none of which I would describe as "sexy". She only seriously flirts with the Doctor and Rory- who is her husband. She's really not sexy at all, but other characters and fans talk about her as though she is.

i love the recurring theme of pictures where she's got a sheet thrown over her (i get it's for protective reasons, but still, it amuses me)

It seems to be one of the most hated series of the show but I’ve always thought it was pretty good. Two of my favourite episodes (Rings of Akhaten and Crimson Horror) come from it. I’m curious how the Tumblr fandom feels about it because I’ve noticed we sometimes have very differing opinions to the fandom on other sites.
