missy doesn’t understand that she’s in the wrong genre. she believes she’s in a darkly alluring gothic romance instead of an optimistic sci-fi show. in her genre, gifting your estranged ex/enemy/lover/best friend/twin flame an indestructible undead army to prove to him that your will to power is identical is the most romantic gesture imaginable. it’s victory via surrender, it’s control through abdication. all her scheming to “corrupt” him, to demonstrate that they’re the same deep down, that his sanctimonious morality is nothing but a method of keeping his own conscience clean, that’s the hannibal gene, the lestat gene (*obviously the dynamics aren’t 1-to-1 similar, but… close enough) and missy’s tragedy in death in heaven is in that, within the narrative format she’s trapped in, she can never succeed

Crack idea that just came to my head: Both series 8 and 9 together form a 'Hybrid' in a way.

Series 8 can be seen as the Clara series. With many of it's episodes having a huge focus on her, her personal life being a big part through almost all of it. Showing her transformation into The Doctor.

Series 9 is The 12th Doctor series. With many of it's episodes having a huge focus on him, while Clara's personal life takes a back seat. Showing his increasing fear and inevitable inability to cope with Clara's death.

Face The Raven/Heaven Sent/Hell Bent are the conclusion to the storyline and they depend on both halves to work. Without series 8 we wouldn't understand who Clara is and why she died, and without series 9 we wouldn't understand why The Doctor is so unable to let go of Clara.

Why are the Twelfth Doctor's season finale titles like that. Death in Heaven -> Heaven Sent/Hell Bent -> The Doctor Falls. It's like they're telling their own story in just a couple words. Why does it sound like a story of an angel falling from heaven. I need to go to sleep

clara oswald is a manic pixie dream girl, but only in the literal sense of each of those words, the non-metaphorical meaning. manic not in a cutesy ‘teehee i’m so quirky’ way, but in an ‘i’m an actual control freak who wants to be able to successfully balance two very different lives and be competent in leading both of them. apparently i also need to sleep and eat and relax like a normal human being??’ way. pixie not in an ‘uwu whimsical’ way, but in an ‘assertive woman of short stature who may or may not be a mischievous trickster entity from a distant mythological past, one that looks adorable at first glance but embodies ambiguity and mystery’ way. dream not in the typical sense, but in the ‘i walk through the valley of the shadow of death and fear no evil; i appear in your mind at inopportune times; you can’t get rid of the idea of me, i haunt you like a persistent nightmare’ sense. girl as in impossible.

point is, she is much-deserving of the label in a non-derogatory, non-dismissive way, but as a genuine expression of awe and fascination
