Luffy has only recruited teenagers so far, but I think it’s important that he doesn’t see an old person as somehow being not qualified or welcome. A lot of shonen stories treat any character older than 20 as having one foot in the grave and not having anything to do with the lives and adventures of the main cast. Clearly that’s not the case with One Piece, but I always really appreciate how that is treated by the characters AND the story.
Also his recruitment technique of “who cares, just come” actually works remarkably well with the right person. It kind of bulldozes through all the excuses people could come up with

Okay, so it's been out almost a whole day. Jamie Lee Curtis insta'd this morning! (See post screenshots below) As a hot favourite for Dr Kureha - and an actress who is vocal about wanting that specific role, it's so amazing to see her post about it! IT MAKES ME SO EXCITED! Even more when we know that she loves Chopper, had once said she wished she could play Nico Robin (in some other cast interview thingy for ... a comic con thing and Emma Roberts is on the side there laughing and like what??? Totally loved JLC for sticking to saying it!!! (I'll add the YT link below)), etc.
So, along with the long list of hopes and desires for OPLA Season 2, let's hope we can get Jamie Lee Curtis onboard!!! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏We want it, she wants it, it sounds like OPLA wants it! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
She's literally, right now, the only big name star I want in OPLA!
But in saying that, I'm also curious how many of you out there would like Jamie Lee Curtis as Doctor Kureha for OPLA Season 2? Clearly, I would love it, however, I also know that there are thoughts on big stars and budget compromises. Personally, I believe there will be a way if everyone wants it. And it will only happen once the strike ends (and with very worthy and fair deal). But let me know what you think!

Kureha’s tears could mean a lot of things here. I always admire how Oda draws expressions at these fraught moments. There are a lot of little details in her face that hint at complex emotions.
The most obvious is grief at knowing Hiriluk will die any moment now. Even knowing his death was coming, it would be hard to lose an old friend when she thought she had more time to say goodbye.
There’s probably also anger and frustration. At Hiriluk, for teaching Chopper this. At Chopper, for his ignorance and naivety. At the disrespect to her profession by the two of them. And she’s probably also angry at herself, for not realizing sooner, or maybe for thinking Hiriluk’s weird ideas were harmless, or maybe for not doing more in other ways to somehow prevent this situation. She probably also realizes that nothing she could have done would have been enough to stop Hiriluk.
