cw: dog-like cross, reader is really patient, a bit of a whump story, blood, angst with a bittersweet ending, more a platonic relationship?
note: i start to be influenced to see Cross with dog traits…
Tumblr media
Cross learned to always bite first. Growling, barking, drooling — everything a dog did before attacking any threat, but not Cross. He always bit first, before anyone could lay a hand on him — he would never let that happen again, never.
And in a wild moment, he sunk his teeth into your hand. His long, sharp canines punctured your skin, tearing at your palm as he shook his head. He braced himself for your scream, for you to hit him, for you to try to pull away—anything!
But what he didn’t expect was for you to tremble and then stand still. Just that. No scream, no slap, no curse, nothing. Your lips were pressed tightly together, clearly trying to keep quiet so you wouldn’t startle him further. In that moment, he realized: even as he bit into your flesh, you still thought of him first.
With a pained whimper, he released your hand — it was slick with saliva, the marks of his teeth etched into your skin. It was a heartbreaking sight, your hand, so gentle, marked by Cross’s rage.
And like a dog seeking forgiveness, he licked your wound, the injury he had caused. His tongue brushed over your skin, wiping away the blood. You hissed, feeling the sting of the fresh injury.
“I'm sorry…” he whispered, nuzzling his face into the palm of your hand. Cross didn’t mind about getting his own face dirty with saliva and blood, no. He only wanted your forgiveness, like a traumatized dog who no longer knew whom to trust.

Dazai canonically rambling about his loved ones at every possible opportunity is so dear to me.
Mori knew a lot of the things he did about Oda because Dazai told him. Akutagawa also knew about Oda and how important he is to Dazai because of Dazai's ramblings. Random, unnamed PM members know about Oda being very dear to Dazai, because Dazai praises him and talks about how great he is.
Chuuya knew straight away that Dazai had been speaking about him to the ADA. It wasn't something he expressed feeling betrayed or suprised about. It was just an immediate understanding that of all the ways they could probably have known about him and his ability despite it being confidential information in the PM, Dazai's ramblings were most likely the reason.
The way that Dazai speaks about Ranpo to quite literally anyone who will listen. To Fydor, to random cops, to Atsushi.
Dazai canonically brags about the people he cares about in an 'omg omg omg my person my people I love them look how amazing they are' way.

Dog Traits: From Boozy Nights to Doggy Delights
Drunk pilot and his party-loving monkey learn dog traits and life lessons from dogs: loyalty, compassion, fearlessness, and joy. #DogTraits #Loyalty #ImaginaryMonkey
Dog Traits – Midjourney I have to admit, as a drunk pilot with a hearing problem and an imaginary monkey that loves to party, I never really gave much thought to dogs traits before. But after a wild night of drinking and flying, my monkey and I stumbled upon a group of dogs who showed us just how amazing they are. And it got me thinking, what can we humans learn from these furry creatures? Here…

I was rewatching the first season of Bungou Stray Dogs with a friend when I noticed something about Dazai from episode 1.
We all know that Dazai isn't really a fighter, but when he's getting chased by Atsushi in his tiger form...
Dazai doesn't take his hands out of his pockets until he has to use his ability to subdue Atsushi.
Now, where have we seen that before?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then I noticed something familiar about the way that Chuuya wears his coat

Utilization: By his anatomical peculiarities this dog is predestinated to puffin-hunting on the steep rocks around the fjords and along the shore.
Tumblr media
The standard:
Neck: Clean-cut, of medium length, quite strong with a relatively well furnished collar.
Compendium comment:
The head is carried relatively low. The two last vertebrae (atlas/apsis) are shaped so that the dog can bend backwards so that the head touches the back. To do so is vital when turning in the narrow burrows. NB! This should NEVER be demonstrated the ring!
Tumblr media
The standard:
Ears: Triangular ears of medium size, broad at the base, carried erect and very mobile. The cartilage of the ear lobe has the faculty of being able to retract itself so that the ear folds itself and flops in a specific manner, either backwards or in right angle upwards, so as to close the auditory passage.
Compendium addition:
The ears of the Lundehund have a unique muscle that enables them to fold and close the ears when entering the burrows, thus protecting them against dirt and moisture. The turning and folding of the ears probably also is help in locating the birds.
Tumblr media
The standard:
Forelimbs: Moderately angulated. Forearm: Straight.
Forefeet: Oval shaped, turning slightly outwards, with at least six toes of which five must rest on the ground. Eight pads on each foot. The two inner toes, formed respectively by 3 and 2 phalanges and endowed with a ligamentary and muscular system, make the foot look solid.
Compendium addition:
Very flexible and elastic shoulder muscles. The Lundehund has joints that allow the forelimbs to extend at nearly 90 degrees from the body, but this must NEVER be demonstrated in the ring! The forefeet turn slightly outwards to give room for the extra toes.
The Norwegian Lundehund is a polydactyl. Instead of the normal 4 digits, the Lundehund normally has 6 digits, all fully formed, jointed and muscled, with tendons going up the inside of the leg, partly responsible for its wide front gait. Some specimen may have more, others less than 6 digits per foot, but less than 6 on front feet should lead to downgrading. The extra toes help the dog climbing up and down crevices in screes and cliffs.
Tumblr media
The standard:
Hindfeet : Oval shaped, turned slightly outwards, with at least six toes - four of which must rest on the ground. Seven pads on each foot, the one in the middle, the most important one by its size, being attached to the inner pads corresponding to the two inner toes. When the dog is standing up on a flat surface, the weight of the body must be evenly distributed on the pads.
Compendium comment:
More than 6 digits is not a fault. 5 digits are acceptable on the hind feet. The extra toes on the hind feet are normally less developed than those on the forelegs and variations from the ideal, both regarding number and placement, should not be penalized.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The standard:
Gait/Movement: Light and elastic. An external rotary action of the forelegs and somewhat close action behind is characteristic of the breed.
Compendium comment:
In judging the movements of the Lundehund, one must consider that this dog is built to climb efficiently up and down steep cliffs and screes. The extra pads on both fore- and hind paws must then touch the surface to aid the dog in climbing. The extra toes help getting a grip, both in ascent and descent. The wide front with extra flexibility enables climbing safely up and down crevices, as the forelegs can grip at a 90 degrees angle to the body. On flat surfaces, the Lundehund will show typical rotating front movements, due to tendons and muscles from the extra digits on the inside of the legs. Hind movements are narrow.

You’ve most likely answered this before but what breed exactly is Machete? I’ve been trying to figure it out for a while I’ve thought maybe a saluki but the ears arnt right.
In theory his breed is fictional Podenco Siciliano, but he's not a purebred example. Out of existing dog breeds he looks closest to (and is related to) Ibizan Hound.

But sometimes I see Silken Windhounds that also kind of remind me of him. They just don't have the characteristic bat ears.

How much y'all want to bet y/n doesn't feed DD any chocolate just in case
....probably just out of reflex.
like, they know he's not an actual dog. but he isn't quite human, either (not like he once was). he's a toy, a completely unique monster created by unchecked greed and unethical science.
the fact that he looks like a dog (a cartoonish caricature of a dog) has some influence over how y/n and the others treat him, but they do check themselves.
he used to be a person. all the toys were, to some extent. y/n has never treated them as anything less.

cw: Cross x Reader, dog coded Cross, hurt/comfort, scars, it's about trust and hands, a bit of a whump story, platonic relationship.
note: this is a continuation of this part!
Tumblr media
Cross disliked physical contact. It was uncomfortable not knowing the intentions of people who lightly touched him, whether with a friendly pat on the back or a polite hand gesture. To Cross, all of these were a potential punch in the stomach, a slap on the neck, or even a kick in the ribs. It was unpredictable; a hand that caressed him one moment could scratch him the next - a reminder that trusting anyone was risky.
However, something changed. Your hand changed. What was once immaculate, pristine from any wound that might be exposed to the world, was now marred by Cross's teeth. A horrible, ugly mark, an eternal scar of his rage. And yet, despite this hateful scar on your hand, you still reached out to him. You extended your fragile, wounded hand not as a reminder of what he had done, but as a pledge of trust—a pledge he vowed to honor.
Every time you reached out your hand, he accepted it; so delicately that it felt more like an approach than a touch. Occasionally, his fingers - phalanges as sharp as his canines - would scratch you gently, and then he would pull away. Your hands engaged in this timid yet reciprocal dance.
You didn't mind much; aware of Cross's distrust and social challenges, you didn't mind waiting for him, always allowing him to decide whether to grasp your hand or not, whether to draw near or retreat.
Like a traumatized dog, you knew these choices were the last vestiges of freedom Cross had over himself.

I've seen people make human AUs and equate Winter's scavenger fascination with being like. a crazy cat person. and while that is really good and I do think Winter would and should be crazy about cats, I do think like... if you are going to give him an equivalent interest you gotta go nicher than that. Like, being a Cat PersonTM is a thing like half the population identifies at. You GOTTA go stranger. He needs to be regularly attending reptile conventions. He needs to daydream about owning a praying mantis. He needs to yell at underpayed PetSmart workers about how small the fish tanks are that they keep the bettas in. He needs to be offered the chance to hold a snake and he needs to talk to that snake like he's greeting the queen. He needs to show you photos of tarantulas please please please look at his pictures please of his tarantulas

Does anyone else think the bird jokes are overused and redundant :/
Like people reduce Tokoyami’s whole personality to a single physical trait and I just think it’s weird. In mha canon not a single (good) person makes jokes about tsu, shoji, or Tokoyami’s heteromorph traits. Tokoyami doesn’t even exhibit any bird traits (except the perching), that’s all headcanon. The only one who brings up his avian appearance is hawks. There are only 5 instances I can remember someone saying something about mutant appearances (excluding the direct assault against shoji and ordinary woman)
Mineta calling shoji octopus, which he then apologizes for after finding out how rude that is to say
Jiro saying “that damn bird” when dark shadow blocked her attack. It felt more like a statement of her frustration than an insult.
Bakugo calling tokoyami bird brain, which is normal for him
Dabi calling spinner lizard, and spinner getting offended and yelling at him (I don’t remember if he continues to do it afterwards)
Shoto calling that police chief a mutt, there was no excuse for that, that was just racist
And still I think these are pretty tame compared to how the fandom treats heteromorphs!! The stereotyping of Tokoyami and hawks is absolutely insane. I love when people come up with headcanons for them having more avian traits but when those traits become the butt of the joke it’s extremely distasteful. If I see one more cannibalism joke about eating chicken I’m gonna hurt something. You guys do realize birds eat other birds all the time right???? There is a reason “chicken hawk” is a name. A hawk literally tried to attack my chickens yesterday, they love chicken. That is the reason hawks favorite food is chicken. I can see why tokoyami would want to hide his avian traits because if people in mha are like ours he would have been bullied to hell.
I know people making bird jokes are just having fun, but it’s just really weird to me. It’s important to see the comparison between real life racism and the heteromorph racism in mha. There is a reason horikoshi adds the mutant rally in the final war arc, the lesson there has flown over so many people’s heads. I hope this post gives you more insight to look beyond appearances and actually try to understand these side characters a bit better.
