*breathes in very deeply*
A friend asked my opinion on the PnF season five trailer today and I had to look them dead in the eyes and say I needed to watch it three full times just to get over the change in lineart style long enough to form any other thought.

i am obsessed with @random-tail's DCA OC Sora! she's got such a cool design! the hooded crop top! the boots! the constellation-patterned nightcap! just oozing with style and she was SO fun to draw!

I haven't felt very motivated to draw lately (what chronic fatigue does to a guy 😔) but I have cracked open my sketchbook a few times. Mostly to doodle TBC.

if i were to make some art and post an uncolored version of it for people to print out and color in, would that be something anyone would be interested in?
it would be Star Trek, of course, but i'm not sure who it's going to be of yet

Was working on a drawing for langworth week a few days ago but my arm and shoulder started to hurt too bad so I gotta rest them (´;︵;`)
idk when I can next draw but once i can draw it will be late langworth week art >:-), I also plan on actually doing the drawing digitally so hopefully it comes out well!

Sitting here at work wishing I was home and drawing but not sure of what I want to draw when I am home: crop top Scourge (from my au) or Shadow at the beach (also from my au)? Idk, I’ll figure out once I have my laptop on in front of me. Might not even draw them either lol

Me: Man! How am I suddenly good with [art skill] overnight and with no practice whatsoever?
The many failed and successful drawings I've made the past few months unintentionally practicing those skills I'm now praising: Hey.
Me: It must be divine intervention.

Dude, I just wanted to say in regards to your art vent post; fucking big same. Also, I feel like I’m always behind my friends since I didn’t start drawing until later in life and they’ve all been drawing since grade school. It’s so hard not to be discouraged when you can literally see that you’re where your friends were at as 14 year olds as a whole ass adult with a job. But still, we cannot let the “I suck and hate my art” brain win. Holding your hand right now because you aren’t alone.
It's nice to know that others feel the same way 🫶🫶🫶. I mean, I started drawing somewhat consistently when I was 12 and while I do feel like I have progressed since then, it does suck to look at other people around the same age as me and see how much better their art is (or people even younger than me 😭😭😭) but I suppose that's true. I get frustrated a lot when drawing because I struggle with anatomy and proportions and really just the body(there are so many poses I try to draw characters in and they never look right), and I've been trying to practice but I'm very impatient lol. But there are things I do love about my art, I think I'm pretty good at colours and shading. Thank you 💖💖💖

What's your drawing process like? Do you do silhoutte sketches, or start with shapes or are you just so used to drawing Sonic characters you can draw their outlines ~first try with minimal edits?
I strive to be able to draw like that digitally 😭 I'm great at drawing characters super easily via traditional (pencil + sketch book) but digital always makes me make it super perfect and it always takes a few hours compared to around ~20 minutes for a character 😢
I think it's easier for me to just show you than it is for me to explain so here's a quick timelapse! For about 99.9% of the drawings you see on my blog, I don't do sketches and just go straight for the lineart :'D This one took me about 10 to 15 minutes for reference! Though usually I take a lot longer to finish drawings, but that's just because I get severely distracted every two seconds haha
But you're so right, digital art just inherently encourages severe perfectionism and it's really hard to shake, unfortunately. As you can probably tell from the timelapse, I'm guilty of doing it constantly too :') A fun thing you could do to try to improve that though is a lil speed art challenge. Set an alarm for 15-20 minutes to start with and try to draw a character in that amount of time, and then move on no matter how bad it may turn out. It'll teach ya to work with the imperfections and improvise instead of just pressing ctrl+Z over and over again :] You can decrease that time limit as you improve!
I also find that using a more pencil- or crayon-like brush helps with mistakes feeling more acceptable, so try that while you practice!
And lastly, know that it takes time. Drawing is like a muscle that needs to slowly but surely be trained up. So be patient with yourself.

Thank you!
b/w, lineart, ink- it’s what I’m comfortable and familiar with. I actually used to only do traditional art until I got a tablet around 2018, and I preferred using these micron pens. Any old art is who-knows-fucking-where, I’m not sure how long it’d take me to dig around and find it
Tumblr media
The ink brush I tailored for digital art is supposed to sort of simulate that “bleeding into the paper” look. And yeah when you’re only working with black and white, every line and every dot becomes important. The intention of your lines are as significant as the negative space left
When I first starting out with digital though… I fretted over making things CLEAN, because it was easier to do so, because I had the capability, didn’t need to have a steady hand and so on. But in my experience & over time that style did not reflect myself, so I started being more loose with my lines and not caring if something was out of place. It’s definitely more freeing, way more fun, and typically captures the vision I have in my head better. Plus the ink brush does some of the work for me in keeping/making it feel organic
And at the core I’ve always wanted to draw comics, and gravitated towards “vintage” traditional styles of comic art
Tumblr media
(I wish more western comics were still in b/w, not dropping names but some of the coloring finish-work on gorgeously inked panels is dumpster garbage)
I also love love love character interactions, the seemingly mundane but personality defining little moments that make a fictional thing feel real!
I’m currently finishing up the prologue for TDIAHM reboot and only hope I can execute a lot of the ideas I have for it! Sorry if I’m regurgitating a lot of shit I’ve already said, I-know-that-you-guys-know I’m passionate about this, and I greatly appreciate all your words and the time you take to tell me! Trust me, I read it, I save it, I go to bed fuller 💕

More satoko and rika but happy because they deserve it.
Don't typically do lineart since it takes a lot of time and I find it frustrating but somehow I managed to do it without giving up and making it a digital painting.
Chapter thoughts under the cut because they might be a bit too depressing in contrast to the art.
So, I don't know if anyone else felt like this, but the murder part of the chapter was a lot easier to get through than the aftermath. I took a LOT of breaks through it, but it wasn't for satoko and her suffering, but Keiichi.
I tend to joke about not having to need drugs to hallucinate since I can do it on my own, but man. If I get stressed out enough, it happens and it's not fun. And after when you get thrown back into reality and having to face things that aren't real for what they are? And when things happen and just align in ways that feed off the thoughts I'm having, leading to unhealthy stupid beliefs that I might be causing it. Fuck. Out of everything, man. I know Keiichi wasn't fully there by end of chapter 1. But this was brutal for me.
Thankfully I'll be watching the vod instead of the stream tonight, so I can tap out as much as needed (I'll be on the minimum wage grind). I hope everyone is okay watching after this bombshell of an ending, and yeah. Mental health is in short supply in hinamizawa bc DAMN.

So this week I discovered I can do cool lineart way easier with actual pens than digitally-
So here's a really dramatic picture of Rozemyne which I had a lot of fun with :D
