*breathes in very deeply*
A friend asked my opinion on the PnF season five trailer today and I had to look them dead in the eyes and say I needed to watch it three full times just to get over the change in lineart style long enough to form any other thought.
#I get it#doing the lineart digitally is easier#BUT THE WHIMSY#THE STYLE#ITS JUST SO DIFFEFENT#I WANT TO SEE THE BLEMISHES#I WANT TO SEE THE SPACES WHERE THE PENCIL WAS SHITTY#I WANT TO SEE IMPERFECTIONS IN ART#it’s just so much more visually pleasing the old way#it’s not even that the new stuff looks bad it’s just that the old style was such a masterpiece#*sobs*#phineas and ferb#perry the platypus#agent p#heinz doofenshmirtz#phineas and ferb season 5

i am obsessed with @random-tail's DCA OC Sora! she's got such a cool design! the hooded crop top! the boots! the constellation-patterned nightcap! just oozing with style and she was SO fun to draw!
pose reference
#dca fandom#rt sora#crab art#traditional art#bright colours#was SO on the fence about whether to draw this digitally or traditionally#Sora has really cool patterns that would be clearer and easier to do digitally#but something about the challenge made it really enticing to try traditional media#and yeah the details of the patterns were a little challenging#but it was SO fun to draw her#especially the lineart#ough i'm so happy with the lineart

I haven't felt very motivated to draw lately (what chronic fatigue does to a guy 😔) but I have cracked open my sketchbook a few times. Mostly to doodle TBC.
#I don't draw on paper much anymore tbh#bc now that i have the option to fully line and color things digitally if I'm gonna spend time on art I'd rather go all the way#but i probably should get back into the habit. it's relaxing sometimes to draw something without fussing over it#also i drew blackstar recently while bored during my break at work and tried to redraw him digitally later and it just doesn't look as good#it really is easier to get things the exact shape you want during the sketching phase#which is why i want to make my digital art a little more relaxed and lean into sketches for lineart#but it just never works? idk#I don't feel like I really have the mind or eye for art sometimes. idk how to explain it#I don't really know how to experiment with my style or make changes? how do people learn that#anyway I'm rambling#i really enjoy drawing but I'm pretty art blocked recently bc I'm so tired all the time and kinda feel like? idk how to draw? dunno#my art#shadowsight#bristlefrost#rootspring#snowtuft#lionblaze

if i were to make some art and post an uncolored version of it for people to print out and color in, would that be something anyone would be interested in?
it would be Star Trek, of course, but i'm not sure who it's going to be of yet
#i personally hate coloring which is why im like “dang letting other people color it in?? thats so smart”#i think im gonna do it anyways but i wanna see the general consensus of this idea#star trek#tumblr polls#random polls#i'd probably also make a see-through version that's just lineart for the people who would like to color it in digitally instead#but i also feel like that would make it a lot easier to just erase my signature and steal my work....

I have to admit I do like digital because it's easier
#i like the transform tool and the undo button okay#i like the physicality of traditional and the way its easier to manipulate tools to do different things#but im quite fond of my friend the undo button#did a traditional piece the other day and i liked it but i wasnt fully satisfied with it#so rn im fixing it up digitally and its just more enjoyable#i was originally just gonna fix the colors but then i got to looking and wanted to fix the lineart a bit too and like!!#damn it looks so much better now!!

Was working on a drawing for langworth week a few days ago but my arm and shoulder started to hurt too bad so I gotta rest them (´;︵;`)
idk when I can next draw but once i can draw it will be late langworth week art >:-), I also plan on actually doing the drawing digitally so hopefully it comes out well!
#and buy doing it digitally I mean doing the sketch and lineart traditionally#and then going over the line art digitally before adding colours digitally of course#cuz that makes digital art easier less stressful for me and imo look nicer :-D#cyantextpost

Sitting here at work wishing I was home and drawing but not sure of what I want to draw when I am home: crop top Scourge (from my au) or Shadow at the beach (also from my au)? Idk, I’ll figure out once I have my laptop on in front of me. Might not even draw them either lol
#personal#musings#what sth fanart do I want to make/start today?#i have digital art pieces that should honestly be finished already but i haven’t been in a lineart mood lately#considering maybe getting a new tablet too to make art a little easier#scourge the hedgehog#shadow the hedgehog#which one should I draw?

Me: Man! How am I suddenly good with [art skill] overnight and with no practice whatsoever?
The many failed and successful drawings I've made the past few months unintentionally practicing those skills I'm now praising: Hey.
Me: It must be divine intervention.
#carime rambles#why can i suddenly draw weird face angles? ((all my doodles of weird face angles can be seen in the distance))#why can i suddenly draw weird poses? ((all the drawings ive made these past few months+ bc bo pointed out i always drew the same pose))#why can i suddenly draw digital lineart? ((trying not to just clean up my sketches but actually draw proper lineart on top))#what about hands? ((you draw hands all the time & also drew a SIX HANDED CHARACTER with every hand in WEIRD POSES of COURSE its easier now))#and folds of clothing? ((that... i genuinely have no answer to. all my clothes tend to be slapped on with random folds- nvm i remember now))#basically: *bonks head* YOU DIDNT GET GOOD OVERNIGHT! IT'S ALL PRACTICE!!! ALL OF IT!!!! EVEN IF YOU DONT REMEMBER IT!!!!!!#i still have trouble with all of the things ive mentioned here but now it's easier to me. and why? bc of all the ugly drawings ive failed at#i now trust my own process#even when i feel i couldnt possibly get the a result of the same quality as before#ive proven my intuition (the one telling me it won't look good) wrong before and i can do it again

Dude, I just wanted to say in regards to your art vent post; fucking big same. Also, I feel like I’m always behind my friends since I didn’t start drawing until later in life and they’ve all been drawing since grade school. It’s so hard not to be discouraged when you can literally see that you’re where your friends were at as 14 year olds as a whole ass adult with a job. But still, we cannot let the “I suck and hate my art” brain win. Holding your hand right now because you aren’t alone.
It's nice to know that others feel the same way 🫶🫶🫶. I mean, I started drawing somewhat consistently when I was 12 and while I do feel like I have progressed since then, it does suck to look at other people around the same age as me and see how much better their art is (or people even younger than me 😭😭😭) but I suppose that's true. I get frustrated a lot when drawing because I struggle with anatomy and proportions and really just the body(there are so many poses I try to draw characters in and they never look right), and I've been trying to practice but I'm very impatient lol. But there are things I do love about my art, I think I'm pretty good at colours and shading. Thank you 💖💖💖
#scribble.txt#askbox#also I feel like my art style is kind of anime and chibi like#and i've been trying to make it more realistic body proportions wise. and it doesnt look right when I try to do that.#also I've been drawing digitally a lot lately and its probably part of the reason I feel so annoyed because sketching and lineart will#always come easier to me with traditional art even if I have a stylus pen.

What's your drawing process like? Do you do silhoutte sketches, or start with shapes or are you just so used to drawing Sonic characters you can draw their outlines ~first try with minimal edits?
I strive to be able to draw like that digitally 😭 I'm great at drawing characters super easily via traditional (pencil + sketch book) but digital always makes me make it super perfect and it always takes a few hours compared to around ~20 minutes for a character 😢
I think it's easier for me to just show you than it is for me to explain so here's a quick timelapse! For about 99.9% of the drawings you see on my blog, I don't do sketches and just go straight for the lineart :'D This one took me about 10 to 15 minutes for reference! Though usually I take a lot longer to finish drawings, but that's just because I get severely distracted every two seconds haha
But you're so right, digital art just inherently encourages severe perfectionism and it's really hard to shake, unfortunately. As you can probably tell from the timelapse, I'm guilty of doing it constantly too :') A fun thing you could do to try to improve that though is a lil speed art challenge. Set an alarm for 15-20 minutes to start with and try to draw a character in that amount of time, and then move on no matter how bad it may turn out. It'll teach ya to work with the imperfections and improvise instead of just pressing ctrl+Z over and over again :] You can decrease that time limit as you improve!
I also find that using a more pencil- or crayon-like brush helps with mistakes feeling more acceptable, so try that while you practice!
And lastly, know that it takes time. Drawing is like a muscle that needs to slowly but surely be trained up. So be patient with yourself.
#roonie answers#also sidenote but holy crap did i get a lot of asks after that last post :'D thanks yall!#ill be answering them tomorrow in a metal wins asks longpost so get your questions in before then if you have anything youre curious abt!

Thank you!
b/w, lineart, ink- it’s what I’m comfortable and familiar with. I actually used to only do traditional art until I got a tablet around 2018, and I preferred using these micron pens. Any old art is who-knows-fucking-where, I’m not sure how long it’d take me to dig around and find it

The ink brush I tailored for digital art is supposed to sort of simulate that “bleeding into the paper” look. And yeah when you’re only working with black and white, every line and every dot becomes important. The intention of your lines are as significant as the negative space left
When I first starting out with digital though… I fretted over making things CLEAN, because it was easier to do so, because I had the capability, didn’t need to have a steady hand and so on. But in my experience & over time that style did not reflect myself, so I started being more loose with my lines and not caring if something was out of place. It’s definitely more freeing, way more fun, and typically captures the vision I have in my head better. Plus the ink brush does some of the work for me in keeping/making it feel organic
And at the core I’ve always wanted to draw comics, and gravitated towards “vintage” traditional styles of comic art

(I wish more western comics were still in b/w, not dropping names but some of the coloring finish-work on gorgeously inked panels is dumpster garbage)
I also love love love character interactions, the seemingly mundane but personality defining little moments that make a fictional thing feel real!
I’m currently finishing up the prologue for TDIAHM reboot and only hope I can execute a lot of the ideas I have for it! Sorry if I’m regurgitating a lot of shit I’ve already said, I-know-that-you-guys-know I’m passionate about this, and I greatly appreciate all your words and the time you take to tell me! Trust me, I read it, I save it, I go to bed fuller 💕

More satoko and rika but happy because they deserve it.
Don't typically do lineart since it takes a lot of time and I find it frustrating but somehow I managed to do it without giving up and making it a digital painting.
Chapter thoughts under the cut because they might be a bit too depressing in contrast to the art.
So, I don't know if anyone else felt like this, but the murder part of the chapter was a lot easier to get through than the aftermath. I took a LOT of breaks through it, but it wasn't for satoko and her suffering, but Keiichi.
I tend to joke about not having to need drugs to hallucinate since I can do it on my own, but man. If I get stressed out enough, it happens and it's not fun. And after when you get thrown back into reality and having to face things that aren't real for what they are? And when things happen and just align in ways that feed off the thoughts I'm having, leading to unhealthy stupid beliefs that I might be causing it. Fuck. Out of everything, man. I know Keiichi wasn't fully there by end of chapter 1. But this was brutal for me.
Thankfully I'll be watching the vod instead of the stream tonight, so I can tap out as much as needed (I'll be on the minimum wage grind). I hope everyone is okay watching after this bombshell of an ending, and yeah. Mental health is in short supply in hinamizawa bc DAMN.
#parents were like: wow i think its her period#keiichis parents prolly: man must be hormones#for a good portion of it in most chapters lol#real shit tho its been like 3 years since my last episode of that sort so im doing okay#life isnt perfect but i have a mental health support system in place#nezumivastream#my art#digital art#art#digital painting#digital drawing#higurashi#higurashi spoilers#higurashi rika#higurashi satoko#they deserve to be happy

So this week I discovered I can do cool lineart way easier with actual pens than digitally-
So here's a really dramatic picture of Rozemyne which I had a lot of fun with :D
