Today, 3 September, is Doraemon's birthday, as Doraemon was born on this day in 2112. Introduced is the ‘Dokodemo Door (Anywhere Door)’ from the greeting stamp ‘Doraemon’ (issued in 2016), which is one of Doraemon's secret tools and connects you to the place you want to go if you open the door.

Your previous post made me a bit curious, and I don't know if it's ok to ask. But, why does Kyo hate travelling abroad? What about the other members? (Even for tourism, not just tours?)

He blamed the language barrier, from what I remember. But he also doesn't leave the tour bus much when they travel, even if he could join others/be accompanied and not have to worry about not personally speaking the local language or English, so I think he prefers the familiar Japanese scenery. We can't ignore the potential stalking problem too.

harajo marathon

Every year in Minami Shimabara in late winter/early spring, they hold the Harajo Marathon. The name is a bit misleading, because it's not a proper marathon, but rather short courses of only 3, 5, or 10 kilometers. Entrants can choose which length they would like to run, and begin at different starting times depending on the distance they chose.

I didn't participate in the run, but went to cheer on my friends living in Shimabara who did run, and it was really fun. The reason it's so much fun is that the marathon also holds a costume contest, meaning a lot of runners run their distance in full costumes, and at the end they receive prizes.

The ALTs of the Shimabara peninsula created a group costume together of Mariokart characters. Each person picked a different Mario character to dress as and wore a cardboard cart around their body. It was super creative and fun!

Other than the ALT group, there were local people dressed as Sadako from The Ring, the Joker, a banana and a dinosaur, Where's Waldo, and my favorite, Doraemon.

Doraemon is a famous Japanese cartoon character. He's a blue cat robot from the future that uses random inventions to help his friends. One of his gadgets is the Dokodemo Door, "Anywhere Door," which can take someone anywhere once they step through it. He also loves eating dorayaki, a Japanese sweet sandwich filled with red bean paste.

These details are important because not only did this runner dress as Doraemon, but he carried a Dokodemo Door and dorayaki with him for the entire race. When he walked onto the stage to receive his prize, he set the door down and stepped through it onto the stage. It was amazing and hilarious. The runner really went above and beyond to commit to the bit, and I respect that.

That's all I have to say about the Harajo Marathon for now. It was really nice to see people make running fun and see the creative costumes my friends made. I would love to join in for next year's race if they'll have me!

Satoru probably uses a door to navigate into other people's mind because he was always watching Doraemon, the anime with the Dokodemo Door, the door that leads to everywhere. Hiroki is shown holding a red fish in the bowl during his first meeting with Tsukasa, so there was likely a fish tank in his daily routine too. Also, Tsukasa looks still a young boy when he found Hiroki and he is already diving in his water form. I wonder if he gasps the meaning of what he is doing to that younger child. Besides his advice to the boy was different from Hayashi's: Hayashi told Satoru not to let people enter or alter his "peak" ("yama" is more literally his "mountain", something that raises in your consciousness, not simply the highest part), while Tsukasa told Hiroki to protect his peak surrounding it with valleys. Since Hiroki hates visiting valleys, as he said, what're the consequences of following that advice? Did that interfere with Hiroki's mental growing up? To me avoiding your valleys is like not facing the hardship in your life. Whenever Hiroki has to deal with something unpleasant like working for the Company Tsukasa is the mediator, but the way Hiroki wasn't able to keep in check his emotions with the customers of the shop, the way he talked about commercial strategy with them revealing too much, the way he broke down after realizing that he couldn't interact normally with them speaks high of how much he is messed up. It's clear that it would be a huge problem in the future. Hiroki has to change.
