The council scene was hilarious but also so sad. Alicent unsubtly demands help from Larys, the first real ally she made in King's Landing, the only one to tell her the truth (Rhaenyra mention 1). A man who also assaults her for a little power thrill on a semi-regular basis, but still, he was on her side. Yes, he bragged about killing people to her face knowing how much she hated it, but he was killing people for her. Now he’s denying her in front of the whole council, demeaning her almost, making her look like an irrational woman who just doesn’t understand the politics of men. And of course, he takes the opportunity to bounce the question right back to Criston!

Criston Cole, someone with whom Alicent, until recent events, shared something most akin to a real friendship. Their relationship started with him divulging the truth about his sex life (Rhaenyra mention 2), and it ended when she began to take part in said sex life. But still, there was for a moment some camaraderie left. He was the father who stepped up even though he should have definitely stepped down to her unwanted kids. He helped her convince Aegon that one time, and ok, it might not be much, but it’s honest work! Still, he was her sworn knight, her guard dog, and now he’s abandoning her too! Her evil goblin boys who have been doing evil things in her name, are now fighting her for custody of her two sons, and she’s losing Badly.

Jeez- this is so long overdue but hey- I digitalized something!-

A friend for @hellishgayliath's oc, Elend the pumpkin witch! I saw this guy and wanted him to have a friend :] (or someone that thinks so lmao)

This is Robin! Elend's (self-proclaimed) best friend! He's an enthusiastic and adventurous witch that is also terrible at magic & spells (he's my loser boy). He is studying under a master (that I also have drafted but I refuse to draw more today so-) in the hopes of becoming a strong witch on his own. Though the only skill he seems to have is that he's good with animals.

Robin's familiar is a red fox named Jak, as in jack-o'-lantern, that transforms into his witch's hat! I wanted this little fella to be a darker color than the normal orange of foxes drawn, and to have a different colored pumpkin head. (This took so long to color- oh my stars, I was struggling with both of their color palettes). Jak's head can also just pop off! This leads to it rolling away in its sleep a lot.

Elend & Robin: I envisioned Robin as this naturally affectionate person that is basically an open book. He tries his best to be helpful and kind, but his lack of skills and excitement can lead to accidents to those around him. Robin views Elend as his best friend (and whether Elend does as well is yet to be said), but it's very self-proclaimed on his end. He follows Elend around when not training and probably shows up by popping his head up through Elend's windows to say hello. At the end of the day, he's just a goofy, loving dude that values Elend

You mentioned them possibly going after Astel as a false lead and I got caught in a spiral on how tf they get there without the ranni quest. So if we want a fun detour we can say they are looking for mentions of a fallen meteor. Arthur, who has dabbled in Carian magic, makes a logical leap that a place of astrology and knowledge would be a good start. No academy key so that's not an immediate option, but the Carian study hall may have information. Perhaps they do get info there, maybe not. Their proximity to Ainsel river and the fact that it sits down there and is accessed only through the Ranni quest really can be stretched to there being some sort of lead to find in either there or the manor. They head to Ainsel river pursued by runebear. Ants. Void creature throwing rocks. Stumble their way accidentally to lake of rot overlook. Arthur falls down as a plot device. Back in the rot... again. Fight some fucking rot cultists. Fall down in the coffin. "Arthur! There is a huge fucking Void monster! Arthur! It's about to sh-!

ok wait more Plot Thoughts about this. the astel in ainsel is already so like, Barely overtly relevant to the ranni questline as it is, that i almost feel like it would make More sense if they were pursuing astel on purpose rather than just running into it completely accidentally while helping a living doll take over her step-mom's civilization. i think caria almost definitely has a connection to the eternal cities, so maybe while they're in the study hall they find references to the ill-starred monster from the void that totally wrecked one of them. and obviously they're like oh shit, a monster that came in on a meteor and destroyed a city?? this has GOTTA be what kayne wanted us to kill. it's a slam dunk!! and then it's. still. the wrong. fucking. meteor monster.
