this one took forever, but it's also the longest one so far lol. that tiny little nightmare scene at the beginning refused to be written for over a week but i finally managed to get it done!! i will not be beaten!!
i Do have plans to write them all, no matter how long it takes me, but i use them less as a daily challenge and more of a way to get myself to write more. because these are all little oneshots, i don't have to do a ton of planning for an overarching story or anything, and i can just write out a short scene or story or situation for funsies lol
this is a part of @sariphantom's Rise August prompts
check out the fic on ao3 to get the full experience!!
Prompt: Day 4: Yokai
Summary:
The quiet, while not completely comfortable, is companionable, familiar, and Leo can almost feel himself doze off when Donnie says, “Big Mama called herself a Yōkai, didn’t she?”
“Hm?” Leo blinks a few times, trying to reboot his brain. He takes a moment to process the words, then nods. “Yeah, think so.” He tilts his head at his brother. “Any idea what that means, exactly?”
Donnie purses his lips, fingers tapping at his gauntlet. “Just that it feels a little odd that that’s what they’re called.”
“Oh?” Now that catches Leo’s interest. He hadn’t given it much thought himself and had brushed it off as a result. “Does that mean something specific?”
Words:
🐢❤️💜💙🧡🐢
He’s falling.
His ears are ringing, his stomach is swooping, his arms and legs feel numb, he’s falling, he’s falling, he’s falling, and he feels like he’ll never stop.
Where’s Raph, where’s that flash of red, where is his lifeline, his brother, where, where, where—?
Suddenly, despite the distance, he can see Raph in perfect clarity standing on the rooftop, reaching for him, face twisted in agony, mouth open in a soundless cry. He sees Baron Draxum standing over him, expression indifferent, dismissive, uncaring, as he stares at Leo down the end of his nose. He sees Draxum turn away, sees the nauseating sway of those horrible vines, sees his brother collapse on himself as he stood and watched and did nothing.
The wind rips past him, the blood is rushing to his head, his heart is pounding in his ears, his throat, he’s choking, he can’t breathe, the ground is rushing closer, closer, closer, CLOSER—
Leo jolts upright, panting heavily, one hand pressed to his plastron as the other grips the sheets, fingers digging into the fabric with white knuckled force. According to this flashing numbers of his alarm clock, he’s only been asleep for about an hour and a half, but he doesn’t feel any more rested than when he laid down. His hands are shaking when he finally moves, and he clenches them into fists to quell the trembling.
His heart is beating a staccato in his chest and his vision is swimming and blurry, and it’s not just because he hasn’t been wearing his contacts recently. He feels shaky, unsteady, off balance, like he’s still falling, even now, sitting in bed in the New York underground.
He needs a desperately needs a distraction, and hopefully, some company.
He staggers to his feet and lists to the side once he’s upright, catching himself on the wall with one hand. His stomach rolls, and he holds his other hand to his plastron, willing the nausea to please just chill out. Puking all over his floor at—he glances at the alarm clock again, leaning closer and squinting to make out the numbers at a distance—five in the morning would just make everything so much worse. He fishes out his phone, nearly blinding himself when the screen lights up in his face, and takes a deep, grounding breath.
Once he’s sure his guts are going to be staying where they should be, he stumbles out of his room into the atrium. The lair is silent and still, the only light coming from the skylight and the dim string lights they leave on so they’re not left tripping over themselves in the underground darkness. This time of night, Raph and Mikey and Dad are for sure asleep, so Leo seeks out the one member of the family that even has a chance of still being awake at this hour.
Donnie’s lab is on an upper layer, so Leo makes his way up, not bothering to sneak around. His oldest and youngest brothers are both sound enough sleepers—Raph usually being a deeper sleeper than Mikey—and Dad won’t come out of his room unless there’s screaming, so as long as he doesn’t cause a huge racket, he’s at no risk of waking them.
Donnie is always a tossup. He can sleep through this ear-splitting music, but it’s easy to wake him up if you’re trying to. He loves having a sleep schedule and getting eight to ten hours of sleep, but only some of the time. Other times, he stays up late, sometimes later than Leo even, because he’s stuck working on a project, the hyperfocus carrying him through long nights with no regard to how long it’s been since he started. Many an all-nighter has been pulled by Donnie with nothing more than an, “Oops.” Leo himself is, most unfortunately, a light sleeper most of the time, the only exception being when he crashes after an extended bout with his insomnia.
Thankfully, it seems Donnie is still awake tonight, the glow of LEDs from the open lab casting a purple sheen to the floor outside of the room. There’s music playing, but it’s quiet, the thump of the bass tinny and muted and inaudible from a distance. Donnie must be using his speakers instead of his headphones, volume loud enough to give him noise without becoming muddled and indistinct up close, but low enough to not wake anyone.
The music is accompanied by the tapping of keys from his keyboard, and as Leo steps inside the door, he can just barely make out that the program Donnie uses to write his codes is open, the screen filled with lines of programming jargon that Leo can only faintly grasp. Donnie’s fingers fly across the keyboard as he writes up his codes, only pausing to reference one of the many other screens and the information pulled up on them. Leo just watches him for a moment, leaning against the doorway.
After a few minutes, Donnie sits back and moves to point at the chair tucked off to one side. It’s a deep, tasteful blue with a wide, rounded back, custom made to fit a domed shell like Leo and Mikey’s. “Take a seat,” Donnie says without turning around. “Stop lingering in the door.”
Leo huffs out a laugh and comes fully inside, reaching over the snag the chair as he moves closer to Donnie’s side. “What’cha working on?” he asks as he collapses into his seat.
“It is a mystery,” Donnie says, visibly biting back the rant he wants to give about his project. He looks like he wants to burst with excitement at the interest, despite his words. “I can’t tell you yet. It’s not done, and I don’t wanna say until it is.”
“Ahhh,” Leo hums, “gotcha.” Normally he’d push and push until Donnie spilled his guts, but he can tell this is a big one, so he’ll let his brother keep his secrets this once.
Donnie gives him a sidelong glance, eyes narrowed in suspicion, then huffs. He stands, stretching, then slumps back into his chair. “Are you going to be quiet and let me work?” he asks, hands hovering over the keys.
“It’ll be like I’m not even here,” Leo swears, holding one hand to the center his plastron and the other up in the air, palm out. “Continue with your nerd stuff.”
Donnie looks like he wants to argue, but he drops it as he turns back to his computer and picks back up where he left off. Leo pulls out his phone and opens some mindless puzzle game, something just stimulating enough to keep his attention, but easy enough to zone out with, and lets the sounds of Donnie’s music and clacking keys fill his mind. They chase away the heart stopping adrenaline and swooshing head-rush the dream (nightmare, memory) brought with it.
They sit there together for a good ten minutes or so, Leo blasting through half a dozen levels, before Donnie sighs heavily and stops to massage his temples. Leo looks up at him, a question on his face. “What’s wrong?”
“Oh, nothing, I’ve just miswritten this same line of code five times now, no big deal, he said sarcastically,” Donnie grumbles out, eyes squeeze shut.
“Sounds like you need a break,” Leo says, wiggling his phone back and forth at him.
Donnie glances over at it, takes in the sight of the half-finished puzzle, and shakes his head. “No, thanks, I’m good.” Despite his words, his eyes dart around the screen like he’s trying to solve it with his mind alone.
Leo takes a moment to think. If puzzles won’t work, then he’ll have to try something else. Luckily, he has just the thing. “C’mon, Dee, up and at ‘em. We’re going to the kitchen.”
“What if I don’t want to?” Donnie asks as he reluctantly pushes himself to his feet. “What if I want to wallow in my own failures for a while longer? What then?”
“Wallow in the kitchen while I make you some tea then,” Leo says, standing to lead the way out.
Donnie follows, dramatically slumped over and dragging his feet. “Make me some coffee and you got a deal.”
“You gotta sleep sometime, dude,” Leo says, glancing back at him. “I won’t even make the sleepytime tea. Just some good old vanilla, honey, chamomile. How ‘bout that?”
Donnie groans, long and drawn out. “Fine, if you insist.”
“I do insist. I love coffee as much as the next guy, but sometimes you just need to chill out with a nice cup of tea, y’know?” Leo throws a grin over his shoulder, aiming for encouraging and innocent instead of the annoying and smarmy kind he usually gives. Although he can’t help but add, “This isn’t just for you, anyway.”
“Ah, there it is. The ulterior motive,” Donnie says, rolling his eyes. He’s trying to hide the way his mouth is curving up at the edges, but Leo’s been watching him and his expressions closely for too long to be fooled by the poor attempt.
“Oh no! You caught me! Whatever will I do?” Leo gives a theatrical sigh and holds a wrist to his forehead, palm out.
“Guess you better make this all worth it,” Donnie says, shrugging with exaggerated nonchalance. “That tea better be the best tea over made.”
“Prepare to be amazed, mi hermano!” Leo sweeps into the kitchen and beelines for the electric kettle, filling it with water and setting the temperature. As he waits for the water to heat up, he pulls out the honey and a couple mugs (color coded, of course) and sets them on the table to wait. He pulls his phone back out, checks on the kettle, then settles in to play a couple puzzles while he waits. Donnie takes a seat at the table, eyes on his wrist tech, and the next few minutes pass in silence.
Soon enough, the kettle beeps, and Leo pours the hot water into their mugs, adding the teabags and setting a timer on his phone. A few minutes later, he removes the bags and grabs a spoon, then shoves Donnie’s purple mug across the table. Leo sweetens his tea with the honey, stirring it in, then passes the spoon off to Donnie and settles down with his warm blue mug cradled between his hands.
The heat of the ceramic settles the last of the tension he’s been holding in his shoulders since his rude awakening, and as he sits with his tea, the steam swirling under this nose, he finally feels like he can relax. A good drink and good company; it’s nice. Donnie’s heavy exhale, coupled with the slouch in his posture, tells Leo he feels the same.
“Yōkai are Japanese spirits or entities. There’s a lot of history of to them that I won’t bother telling you about—look it up yourself if you’re actually interested—but generally they’re animal-like in appearance and many of them possess supernatural abilities.” Donnie’s eyes are scanning whatever information he’s looking at rapidly, flicking back and forth across the small screen. “Some of them have the ability to shapeshift.”
“Like the spider lady…” Leo muses, taking a sip of the tea. It scalds his tongue. He rubs it against the roof of his mouth to get the feeling back. “But wait, all those people she had working her lobby—they shapeshifted too, didn’t they?”
“Considering they all looked the same while in human form, I suspect they had some other way of cloaking. A piece of technology, maybe,” Donnie’s lip curls, “or perhaps some kind of mystic artifact.”
“Wait, but if Yōkai are a Japanese thing, why are they called that here? In New York?” Leo frowns at his cup, blowing on it intermittently to cool it down enough to drink.
“I suspect the name itself is archaic, and linked with some sort of root origin. Perhaps the first inhabitants of the Hidden City called themselves that when they founded it, or maybe they adopted the name later. There’s no real way to know without some sort of research, and I can’t exactly look up information about the Hidden City; it’s hidden for a reason.”
Leo nods slowly, taking the words in. He tries his tea again and, thankfully, it’s cool enough to drink. The sweetness of the vanilla and honey blooms over his tongue and he relishes the taste. It sure hits the spot. “How big do you think the Hidden City is?”
Donnie frowns, tilting his head and turning his eyes to the ceiling in thought. “Unclear. Perhaps it’s as big as New York, perhaps smaller, perhaps larger. Considering it’s a cavern, logic says they only have limited space to live and expand, but with mystics involved,” Donnie spits the word like it personally offended him, “I suppose anything is possible. Theoretically.”
“D’you think there’s more than one, maybe?” Leo asks, leaning over his mug closer to Donnie. “Like, do you think there’s a Hidden City in other big cities? Or even worldwide?”
“I wouldn’t be surprised,” Donnie says, shrugging. “It doesn’t make sense for an entire species, especially one so diverse as Yōkai, to be centralized in only one location, even one such as this. I know we haven’t seen much of what the Hidden City has to offer yet, but from what we have seen, I don’t think we’ve seen many—or potentially any—that were the same species as another.”
“Yeah, plus, like,” Leo rotates a wrist in a circle as he tries to generate the words to voice his thoughts, “if Yōkai is a Japanese term, it would just make sense for, y’know, Japan to have its own Yōkai population, at the very least.”
“Exactly.” At that, Donnie finally takes a long drink of his tea, seemingly unconcerned with the temperature. The way he breathes widely through his mouth when he lowers the mug shows he isn’t as unaffected by it as he’s like to be.
Leo snickers and takes another sip of his own tea. “So, if these Yōkai are a whole species, and they’ve been around for who knows how long, that means they’re not mutants. Right?”
“Unless ‘mutant’ is synonymous with ‘Yōkai,’ which it obviously isn’t, then no, they’re very clearly different,” Donnie says, rolling his eyes.
“That means Sheepman is a Yōkai, too, then,” Leo continues, heroically ignoring Donnie’s jab. Leo clasps his hands together and presses them against his mouth, staring into the middle distance. Donnie doesn’t say anything, which Leo is grateful for. It gives him a moment to gather his thoughts. “Does that mean we’re gonna have to fight other Yōkai? And not just humans—or mutants?”
Donnie frowns, considering. “Maybe? I mean, they’ve been around much longer than we have, and as far as we know, have yet to cause any trouble that we would have to fix. All of our enemies so far have been mutants, with the exceptions of Draxum and Big Mama. I won’t say that we’ll never fight any other Yōkai, because there are tremendous odds saying that it’s entirely possible, but I will say that said chances are fairly low, at least for now. I’ll need to reevaluate the statistics in the future, once we know more about them.”
“So, short answer, maybe, but not yet.” Leo sighs, cradling his mug in his hands. “I can’t believe all this stuff was out there all this time and we just didn’t know.”
“To be fair,” Donnie cuts in before Leo can spiral too far, “we’re ignorant of a lot of things, as much as it pains me to admit. Yes, we’ve had unrestricted internet access since we were children, but we still grew up here in the sewers. We’ve met very few people, and almost all of them have tried to kill us or hate us for existing. How could we have known? Again, it’s hidden. That’s kind of the point.”
Leo grumbles as he takes another sip, accepting the logic. Donnie’s right, as much as Leo hates to admit it. There’s no way they could have known about any of this until they stumbled across Mayhem. Then a thought strikes him like lightning. “Wait.” He pauses and blinks as the building blocks come together in his head. “Then how did Pops have that little doohickey that we used to get into the Hidden City?”
Donnie sits up straight, face going blank as he looks at Leo. They sit there for a moment, just watching each other, minds racing. “That’s… a good question.”
“Sheepman said he made us. This Yōkai guy made us, probably in that lab that blew up, and somehow along the way, Dad got us and raised us here in the New York sewers,” Leo outlines their story as he knows it. “If we’re all mutants, Dad included, does that mean he was made in that lab, too? Or did something else happen?”
“Dad used to be human, though,” Donnie counters, brow furrowed as he worked through his thoughts. “He doesn’t talk about it much, but he’s definitely mentioned it before.”
“Then how did a human get into the Hidden City, where Yōkai live, and get turned into a rat by a mad scientist?” Leo asks, drumming his fingers on the table. “Assuming Draxum is, in fact, the one that turned Dad into a rat.”
“Who else could have done it?” Donnie asks, raising a brow. “He’s the one that made those oozesquitos that have been, may I remind you, mutating people.”
The words give Leo an idea. “Wait, pause, timeout,” he says, making a T shape with his hands. “We’ll circle back to that. But first—if Dad was human first, and all the mutants we’re fighting now were humans before, does that mean we were humans first?” He gasps and covers his mouth with his hands. “Did Draxum kidnap all of us and mutate us all together?”
Donnie scoffs and rolls his eyes. “Scoff. Don’t be ridiculous. We were all born, hatched, if you will, as normal turtles.” He shakes his head. “As for mutating us all together, it feels unlikely. After all, why would Dad be a rat if we’re all turtles? If Draxum’s claim that he created us specifically means anything, we must’ve been created with a purpose in mind. Why else would he choose four turtles, all of different species? He must’ve had a reason for it. I fail to see where the rat part factors into the equation.”
“Maybe Dad was an accident. Or a prototype, or something,” Leo suggests, shrugging.
“I’m surprised you know the meaning of the word,” Donnie snarks, then yelps as Leo kicks him in the shin. “Rude.” He frowns and reaches down to rub his leg.
“I guess the question now is why did he make us? Why did he start with turtles and turn them semi-human if he planned to mutate humans to be… more animal-like?” Leo gazes off to the side as he speaks, talking through the thought. It feels like the wrong thing to say, rude even, but every mutant they’ve run into so far has resembled an animal of some sort. But that sense of wrongness leads him to, “Is he trying to make humans more like Yōkai maybe? And he used us to see if it would work?”
“But then why start with turtles if that’s the plan? Why not start with humans if the goal was human oriented all along?” Donnie shakes his head. “Doesn’t make sense to me. If you’re testing a formula, like the mutagen, then you set the other conditions for the experiment the same each time to eliminate extraneous variables. If he was using us to test his mutagen and found it worked, there’s nothing to say it would work the same with humans, or even other animals. There has to be some other goal in mind.”
Leo sighs and rubs his forehead, eyes slipping closed. His head is starting to hurt from both this discussion and a critical lack of sleep. In flash he remembers Draxum’s face as he let Leo go, the way he shrugged with apathy and sounded so nonchalant as he agreed to drop him. Leo shivers and hopes Donnie is too caught up in his own mind to notice. “Whatever reason he made us for, he doesn’t seem to care very much what happens to us.”
Donnie watches him cautiously for a moment, expression carefully blank save for the slight furrow in his brow that he doesn’t quite manage to smother. It’s about as concerned as Donnie’s willing to look right now, here between the two of them at nearly six in the morning. “Does it really matter what he thinks about us?”
Leo scoffs and scrunches his face up in disgust. “God, no. It’s just… I dunno, a little fucked up? That he’s so willing to kill us.” He squeezes his mug to keep his hands still. “He doesn’t mean anything to me, to any of us, but he still…” He trails off, shoulders slouching. “And we don’t know what he’s capable of, really. We barely fought him that first time, and Big Mama fought him in her office more than we did on that roof.” He swallows and sets his jaw. “This guy’s the real deal. And if this is what Yōkai are capable of…”
“You’re worried we’re in over our heads,” Donnie reasons out, exhaling slowly.
Leo gives a tentative nod, then shakes his head, just as slowly. “Yes, no, maybe. Sorta.” He leans forward to lay his head on the table. “I dunno what I’m feeling. Emotions are stupid.”
“Hear, hear,” Donnie agrees, downing the rest of his tea. He sets the mug down with a loud thunk, then stands. “Well, that’s enough for one night, I believe.” He hesitates, then reaches over and pats Leo’s head a few times, a lot gentler and fonder than his uncertain body language implies. “Should you fail in your endeavors towards getting more rest, and you desire my company once again, my door shall be open. Until then, I bid thee farewell, dear Leon.” With these last words, Donnie sweeps out of the room.
Chuckling at his brother’s antics, Leo shakes his head. As he pushes himself to his feet to clean up after their mugs, he can’t help but think that he and his brothers have a long, hard road in front of them. This hero thing is turning out to be a lot more involved that he thought it would be.
He just hopes they have what it takes.

Bit of an odd question for you, but I can see you have more knowledge of RotTMNT than I do. Do you think Donnie lets people help him/be with him in the lab? I've seen it claimed in a few fics but I don't know how validated it is by "canon".
Oooh, it depends.
The best canon argument #1 is Mikey. In 'Bullhop', while they're talking to Bullhop while standing in Donnie's lab, there's a lot of orange cloth/clothes/fabric lying about, suggesting that it might be Mikey's stuff.
Mikey also assisted Donnie in building Todd's entire Puppy Sanctuary in 'Repo Mantis' - technically outside the lab, but still a large engineering project.
There's a dozen little details that imply how close those two are, working on various projects, schemes, etc. throughout the show. One of the most on-the-nose scenes that Mikey is the Igor to Donnie's Dr. Frankenstein actually comes from a script page shared by Ron Corcillo on Twitter for 'Gourd Almighty' (one of the axed-by-Nickelodeon episodes).
Tumblr media
Mikey was totally in on whatever Donnie was working on.
So Mikey: definitely allowed to hang out and help out.
The second person would seem to be April, due to a lot of their shared projects. In 'Donnie vs Witch-Town' they scroll through a history of science projects they've worked on together. In 'The Purple Jacket' not only does Donnie help her out with her coding project at school, but he actively encourages her to use his tech. When she's flying the jetpack asking how it works, he replies "everyone's got their own style, just do what feels natural." I bank a LOT on this line: if everyone's got their own style, that implies that more people than just Donnie have at least used the jetpack. In fact, in 'Endgame' we see Leo riding one like a surfboard.
This segues into the general crux of Donnie's work: the VAST majority of his tech is not just for himself, but for others. The Turtle Tank features a chair specifically to Raph's lumbar settings, and motorcycles for Leo and Mikey. 'Donnie's Gifts' as an episode features presents backfiring spectacularly, but still shows him making tech for his bros. Shelldon is first presented as a gift for all of them, to help around the lair. Donnie is proud to present his tech and for people to use it. (What he doesn't like is for people to MISuse it; such as his brothers altering Shelldon, Splinter stealing the Turtle Tank, and Bullhop making a ruckus throughout his lab).
That, in my opinion, is the core distinction of Donnie allowing someone to help him out in the lab: that they are there to actually help, and not just be annoying.
In 'Mind Meld', when Donnie makes his brothers just like him, he is ecstatic at first, declaring it the greatest day of his life. And he's pretty surprised and impressed with what they come up with in his lab.
So yeah, Mikey seems to be there a lot because he genuinely wants to help out, and Donnie's good with that. But how often does Leo want to help out in the lab with the work? Less often, and so we don't really see him outside of being annoying (Leo tends to pan Donnie's work a lot, from talking about his pattern of failures in 'Smart Lair' to actually clarifying he's not being sarcastic when he says he things the Shellhogs are amazing in 'Stuck on You'. This implies he doesn't care as much about the nerdy things Donnie gets up to, and we also know Leo to value the lazy way of doing things, per 'One Man's Junk'). What about Raph? In 'Stuck on You', while we don't exactly know how they all ended up in a giant glue ball, to some degree it was planned by Raph as a teambuilding exercise. Not his brightest idea as no one was really happy about that. And in 'Cloak and Swaggart' it is further implied that Donnie's aware of a bad trend between Raph and shiny red buttons.
And yet, given how much Donnie makes tech with them each individually in mind, if ever Leo and Raph wanted to help Donnie out in the lab with a project I can't see why he would refuse them. He would probably be delighted that they're taking an interest in his work (as he shines EVERY TIME someone does), and would find something for them to do that matches their skill level and accounts for their accident-prone tendencies.
Really, the only people we see thrown out of the lab are the ones posing a risk or problem to the projects inside: Bullhop, indelicately breaking everything. Splinter, high on Rat Fever in Ninja mode, loose inside. Even Mikey triggers an automatic defense when he speaks while Donnie is accessing their mint-condition Jupiter Jim comic in 'Jupiter Jim Ahoy!' - something Donnie built to protect a thing beloved by all of them.
Tl;dr: whether or not someone would be allowed to stay and/or help Donnie in the lab depends on what they're there for. Here to help? Awesome, welcome! Here to break things or just be annoying? Get out.

request: hi hil! I read your work and it was amazing! I was hoping you would write the rise boys with a vigilante s/o? (Gn) but the boys don't know that yet and one day s/o is fighting the foot or someone, you decide, then their turtle bf shows up and helps them. S/o forgot they were in costume for a minute before running to their turtle in shining shell and kissing them, so it turns into a whole thing and s/o unmasks themself, how do the boys react??

author’s note: eeee !! Gosh I’ve been meaning to post for months, but multiple x readers always stump me. I like making each a completely different story, and sometimes that ends up with me writing waaaay too much. So! I separated this one into a solo. Raph Mikey and Leo will be their own post since I imagine they’ll be much shorter… unless I’m a little freak again and write too much 😭😭. Sheldon’s speech will be the same color as Donnie’s but in italics :))

“ I don’t understand why you won’t disclose this information, Shelldon. ”
Grumbles the turtle clad in purple as he sits on the floor of his lab. Tools are strewn around within reaching distance, framing him, Shelldon, and the computer plugged into the robot boy. The screen displayed a long history of access points to Shelldon’s database—none of which Donnie had the clearance for.
Odd.
A little sigh plays from the little bot’s speakers as his digital eyes shift elsewhere.
“ The information you seek is, like, confidential, dude! ”
“ Whuh—not only are you keeping secrets from your father, but you would even ‘dude’ your own father?! Poppycock! ”
Frustrated, Donnie throws his hands in the air, eyes fixated on the display screen. Error sounds growled through the computer’s speakers each time his program attempted to break through its encryption.
Just who could write an encryption code that could thwart even Donnie?
“ It just makes no sense. As not only your father but also creator, I should have complete access to any and all of your databases. Is this a rebellious development, update 1.2?! ”
Shelldon rolls over, groaning out in annoyance. He couldn’t just flat-out tell him, “ oh papà! you mustn’t worry, i am only hiding the identity of a certain vigilante you’ve yet to encounter! “, no, no, that would be absurd.
That would be a betrayal to you, Donnie’s kindhearted significant other who just couldn’t stand for the Purple Dragons’ treatment towards your dearest darling dear. I mean, what partner would stand on the sidelines as a measly cheerleader in the face of someone daring to disrespect YOUR boyfriend? Quite literally the smartest man alive (probably)?
It didn’t help your case that you were pretty powerless, aside from some scrounged-up determination, a pinch of courage, and a heavy dosage of computer expertise. Nothing up to par with Donnie, but it was remarkable by human’s standards. Combine that with the help of a sentient robot named Shelldon, and you were a force to stand on equal footing with that malicious group of super-nerd-punks.
Watching Donnie writhe with frustration, Shelldon can’t help but hope his walls were stronger than his father’s.
“ Maybe it’s nothing to worry about, bro, let’s just—“
“ Nothing to worry about—/nothing to worry about/— oh, it’s nothing to worry about, he says! “
A ding resonating from Shelldon draws Donnie’s attention for a second. His frustration churns, flashing into curiosity. It seems as though some sort of distress message has came through, but with a chime unlike what he’s programmed. Donnie drops his head with a laughter akin to a parent reaching their breaking point.
“ Oh-ho-ho, dear son of mine, ”
Mouth open, ready to retort with a snarky tone, Donnie raises his head up but holds his tongue at the sight.
An uncharacteristic silence blankets the robot-boy. Shelldon’s eyes begin to flicker until they beam with deep, velvety-purple hue.
Donnie flinches, shielding his eyes from the bright LEDs as he pointed and snapped his fingers.
“ AH-HAH! See, I knew it. This IS a problem! ”
Shelldon rises to his feet and turns robotically before then breaking into a brisk sprint. The cord plugged into him snatches the laptop a few feet before it ultimately yanks from Shelldon’s socket. Before Donnie could call him to return, his son shifts to quite literally propelling himself out of the lair from the rocket launchers in his feet.
Coughing and waving away the residual smoke, Donnie squints at Shelldon’s rapidly disappearing silhouette. He groans exasperatedly as his hands pull at nonexistent hair.
“ Damn it, I knew he wasn’t old enough to have those installed, Shelldon!! ”
Grabbing his tech-bo, Donnie wasted no time in following right after him.

While your poor partner-in-crime found himself under his father’s interrogation, you are none-the-wiser as your fingers skirt across a keyboard. Your purple gloves whir quietly as they accelerate the computer’s performance—the faster you get out, the better. The display’s light shone on your outfit, one befitting a vigilante’s need for secrecy. Your hair was held back by a bandana while your face was obscured by a half-mask from the bridge of your nose to your jaw. A pair of glasses rested upon it with a little purple ‘ D ‘ logo in the corner.
A long sleeve turtle neck covered your arms and torso with angular purple lines following the underside of your arms and down your sides, tucked into a pair of sweatpants with a drawstring waist. The pants tucked into a sturdy pair of boots, all matching with black and purple. If the light caught you in the right way though, then the faintest detail of smaller purple embellishment akin to the lines running along a modem board would shimmer.
That was a detail you were most proud of, albeit purely cosmetic.
But never mind that, you manage to squirrel your way into a hub room of sorts with large metal cabinets filled to the brim with wirings, likely powering the entire lair. The floor occasionally lit up with the rush of purple LED lights pulsing through thin indents on the floor. You didn’t know what information they carried or to where, but that was not your current concern.
“ Alright, Dragons, what are you looking for with the OKE YX23 system’s blueprints… ”
You whisper to yourself. As streams of data rapidly scroll across the screens, you soak it all up through a pair of modified glasses. They accelerate your comprehension and store databases chock full of what you saw in seconds. It was a neat gadget born of your own genius, albeit with just a bit of help from your beloved Donnie.
“ Supersuits? Why super… ”
Squinting, you slow your feverish typing pace and pinch your fingers on the projected hologram to zoom in and section off a few documents. Blueprints upon blueprints flood your senses, designs for all types of suits, each fully equipped for specific situations calling for varying levels of strength, agility, dexterity, and more. A few documents even detail their uses, discussing ideal fantasies of potential war use.
“ No… No way! This is.. I have to send all this data over to Shelldon. ”
Removing your glasses, you tap the shell icon at the top corner of the left lens to send it all to your partner in crime, Shelldon. As a low chime resonates from the glasses, confirming a successful message delivered, you stare at the purple D logo. Your thumb strokes it fondly as you purse your lips in contemplation.
“ Once I’m done with these dragons, maybe… Maybe it’s time to tell him who I am.. ”
You idle for a moment, your free hand balling in and out of a fist beside you. Wracking your head for answers, your thumb began to stroke the pad of your folded index finger as a sort of grounding measure.
“ … For now, I’ll put a pin in that, I need to figure out how to get out of here. ”
As you shift away from the computer to head out, a loud clanging of the door being forced shut in front of you was enough to set off alarms in your head. Paling, you click your boot’s heel against the cold metal floor a few times. There, you had planted one of your small gadgets to allow quick and easy hacking. It was an attempt to connect and override the system to get the door open, but as you’re met with nothing save for the soft thuds of your foot, a heavy pressure weighs on your chest.
They must have found you out. How long have they known you were here?
Goosebumps scurry along your arm as you look over your shoulder for the compressed hiss of doors mechanically sliding open. Previously hidden doors pulled apart to reveal a hidden hallway and a bot stepping through, its digital gaze settled on you while its heavy footfalls shook the room.
“ Ohhhh noooo… ”
Dragging out the syllables, the blueprints you just saw on the screen were currently whirring to life before you. At the sound of a grating, familiar cackle playing through the contraption’s speakers, your blood chills.
Not good.
“ Looks like a rat slipped through the cracks. ”
You could recognize her voice anywhere. What’s your escape route now? Have they closed all of them off? God, you did not prepare for a fight today—that was NOT on the itinerary!
“ Perfect opportunity to see what these puppies can do though. ”
Fully facing the super-suit occupied by Kendra, you take a hesitant step back as your eyes scan the room. They land on a rather ordinary looking door on your far left, equidistant to you both. The chance to get some distance is all too tempting.
Unfortunately, just as your foot raises to break into a bolt, an “ ah, ah, ah~ ” taunts through the mech’s speaker as it sends a projectile whisking past you with a high pitched pachoo! The object sparks against the wall it strikes and ignites instantly. You can’t help the spike in fear shooting through you internally as the blast destroys part of the room and sends debris flying.
With barely a chance to gather your bearings, your gaze raises helplessly as the bulky suit Kendra was operating closed the gap between you both and slammed a heavy fist towards you. It strikes the ground with a heavy THUMP, leaving a dent that was barely off enough to feel comfortable. You raise your hand to the purple logo on your glasses that sends an S.O.S. distress call to your man-in-the-chair, Shelldon.
Scrambling to get away, you lunge towards one of the wire-filled cabinets palms-first in an attempt to hack and utilize some to your advantage. Before your program fully engaged, you’re yanked away full-force and sent skidding across the floor. In your peripheral you notice two more of these suits enter the room. This is hardly the time to get distracted, you scold yourself, glancing back to Kendra in a nick of time.
“ Shit, shit, shit, shit!! ”
You scream, narrowly dodging a shrapnel of metal whisking past your ducked head and embedding itself into the opposite wall.
“ ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! ”
Through a dramatic display of physical prowess, you screech and lunge every which way to avoid each zipping attack the bot sends towards you. To make matters worse, two more robotic suits emerge from behind the first.
“ That could’ve killed me, you runts! ”
Glaring, you turn your gaze to the maniacally laughing trio of super-nerds, donning what appeared to be the exact same super suits in the documents, all said to be powered by an all-too-powerful AI-chip. The suits’ reflexes are swift n’clean, ran by a superior digital brain that seems to be predicting all your movements even before you know them. In any other circumstances, you would have marveled in their presence.
However, right now it serves as too-great of a foe for you alone. In a pathetic display to keep up, you try to stand your ground against the super suits in a recipe of chaos that ends with you cornered and exhausted.
“ Now, now, Violet Virus,”
The leader, Kendra, steps towards you in a suit designed for strength. It’s bulky, intimidating, and an overall pain. You almost wonder if sheer artillery built into that suit was enough to single-handedly replace an entire army.
Behind her stood Jeremy in a suit built for speed—it’s racing LEDs left you dizzy if you stared too long and was designed to reach speeds fast enough that the residual shock alone might be enough to give your eardrums a hell of a jolt. Its fit was slim and sharp, fitting for the purpose.
Last is Jason, who..
Well..
He didn’t have some flashy suit for some reason.
Honestly, it seems more like just a prop suit. You didn’t even know if it did anything—to be frank, it kind of looked like they picked it up at Spirit Halloween.
“ You’ve got guts, I’ll give you that. ”
Kendra’s suit thuds towards you, crouching in front of you. Her robotic hand reaches out to grip your chin between the thumb and index.
“ But that’s all I’ll give you. “
You’re starting to get antsy, mentally begging Shelldon to hurry up in helping you out of this ordeal. In the mean time, you muster the meanest glare, peering through the visual retinas of the machine. The speaker picks up her low scoff.
“ Well, maybe I should reward our little idiot for that signal to our friend,Othello von Ryan. ”
The boys behind her share a laugh in response.
“ … Who? ”
Confused, you yank from her grip, teeth bared in disgust. As powerless as you are to super-suits, an idiot was no where near appropriate to describe you. In fact, to say you were a vigilante with nothing but your boyfriend’s robot under your belt was a lie.
See, your outfit was littered with all types of covert gadgets. This included a pair of gloves and boots to match with dull, illuminated swirls under the pads of your fingers and heels of your feet. Within those swirling pools of light happened to be lie dozens of little terminals awaiting for your command to reshape and hack into any dormant or idle appliances and tech within range.
Pinned to the ground in a sitting position, your hands laid palms down on either side of your body and feet flat to carry out the rest of this operation. So long as they keep their focus on you, they will be completely blind-sided by your retaliation. Inaudible over the commotion, a low groan of circuitry in the walls bowed as your programs seep into their systems.
“ I don’t know who that is, but you’re crazy if you think this battle is in any of your favors! ”
You growled out as the ceilings cave from serpentine cables raining sparks haphazardly. Your program had sent a sort of “ suicidal-sentience ” command through nearby wires that influenced them to rip apart and focus an assault on the super-suits.
Kendra growls in annoyance as metal panels from above knock her to the ground. The limbs of her robotic suit are then coiled up by the snake-like wires. She turns to see a similar fate befalling Jason.
But not Jeremy.
“ Oh, but it is in my favor. ”
Kendra cocked her head in Jeremy’s direction, grinning with an energy that sent shivers down your spine. His suit was equipped with speeds your program couldn’t fathom keeping up with, and as his suit whipped to your side before you could try to run, you were struck and pinned flat against the floor.
“ That was a clever yet feeble attempt. See, we know all about your assets. ”
Kendra recovers quick as she moves her suit to rip the cables off her.
“ … What assets!?”
You kick your legs, trying to get free. Just how much do they know? What do they know? What or which assets could they mean? You hold your tongue in fear of spilling information to potential bluff.
Amidst your confusion, Kendra doesn’t seem too impressed. She might have burst a fuse if not for Jeremy clearing his throat and intervening.
“ What she means, Violet Virus, is we intercepted your help signal. ”
The hair on the back of your neck rose up.
That explains the lack of indication from Shelldon that he received your signal. Your expression sours with worry. What use did they have with him? And wait, Othello von Ryan—
“ You didn’t honestly think you could serve any sort of threat to us, right? Had you even considered that we—practical GENIUSES of the modern technological age—may not have planned to stop at these suits? ”
—Wasn’t that one of Donnie’s aliases?
Kendra roughly shoves Jeremy aside as she crouches back down to eye-level with you. In this moment, you begin to entertain the thought that maybe, just maybe—
“ Your naïveté is sickeningly cute, Vivi, this wasn’t our goal. ”
—you might have bitten off more than you can chew.
You opened your mouth to speak, but no sound came out. Panic was washing over you.
With ice coursing through your veins, you thought about calling Donnie. Maybe if you confess everything about being Violet Virus, he’ll come help?
Or, would he be mad that you kept such a secret and did something so reckless by yourself? A heat wells up in your chest, igniting a fight with the chills. Flashes of hot and cold ran over you as the pieces fell into place.
How long have they known you were working with Shelldon?
Did they let you sneak in this far?
Were you just a stepping stone to get Shelldon?
Do they know your identity?
Your mouth dries at that notion. You need to hurry and turn these tides, but before you could put any plan forth, the wall beside you crumbles as a familiar short stature burst through.
The little robot gave heavy thuds as his feet rose and fell against the floor without any personality.
How did everything go so wrong?
“ Shelldon? “
Tone low, hardly loud enough to even be a whisper, you stared wide-eyed at a robot without a twinge of the boy you knew.
“ Shelldon’s not his name anymore, Violet Virus. ”
Kendra’s suit rises above you then moves to tower beside Shelldon. She raises her mechanical hand and rests it firmly on his shoulder.
“ This is Pulverizer now! ”
A series of “ no’s ” fall from your lips as you scramble to your feet and close the gap between you and Shelldon. Your hands tremble around him, unsure where to rest while Kendra breaks down in laughter beside you both.
You could see the computing of some program flickering behind Shelldon’s eyes, indicated some software actively downloading. He remained unfazed by your presence.
“ Shelldon, no, no, no, what are they doing to you?! I have to get you out of here, I’m so—“
“ Pulverizer, engage combat program ZG.09X, ”
Kendra interjects, barking some sort of command. You glance to her then back to Shelldon, baffled as he seems to respond only to that and not any of your efforts. Your eyes widen as his arm begins reeling back.
“ What did they do to y—“
A quick thwack interrupts you as Shelldon socks you across the jaw with a force so heavy it sends you to the floor a few feet. The hit cracked and crumbled part of your mask as bits of it sprinkle the path from Shelldon to where you’d landed. Your glasses had been slightly bent from your head knocking against the floor. The pain throbs through your skull, ebbing from the cheek your hand rose to caress in disbelief.
“ D-Donnie.. ”
As you stared at Shelldon thunking towards you, you couldn’t help but tremble and wish you weren’t alone. This was too much for you, and you found yourself imagining what it would have been like if you had teamed up with Donnie in the beginning instead of being a solo-hero.
Shelldon reels his arm back again, and you raise yours in a feeble attempt to shield yourself.
Shutting your eyes tight, you brace for the impact.
“ SHELLDON, PROTOCOL BOGEY-DOWN 61E9 ACTIVATE! ”
“ What—!? ”
Kendra whips her head around towards the same entrance Shelldon initially created.
You stare wide eyed as your boyfriend bursts in and shouts a command to Shelldon. His dramatic entrance is punctuated by him riding his tech-bo like a hoverboard.
Donnie jumps off, landing straight into Kendra’s mech with enough force to topple it over. He casts a glance in your direction, squints with suspicion, but then turns back to Kendra.
“ I knew it—SEE, I knew it! ”
The purple-banded turtle paces in front of the dazed Kendra, throwing his hands up in frustration. He stops to point back and forth between Shelldon and the rest of the Purple Dragons.
“ Who else could be meddling with MY son’s database but this group of wannabes! “
“ W-Wannabes? Othello von Ryan, this is whe.. damn.. ”
Winded, Kendra takes a pause to catch her breath. Jason tries to come and help her up but gets swatted away immediately. Angrily, she huffs and operates the suit to shove itself back onto its feet.
“ Get AWAY from me, Jase, UGH! Othello Von Ryan, prepare to be defeated by our revenge! Pulverizer, engage combat program ZG.734! ”
She cackles maniacally, jabbing a finger in Donnie’s direction. When Shelldon doesn’t move, the speaker goes quiet for a few beats.
Then, it starts playing a bunch of loud clanks, likely from Kendra frustratedly hitting things inside the suit.
Donnie, however, glances at Shelldon then back at Kendra and stomps his foot. He points an accusatory finger in her direction.
“ Oh by Galileo, if you lot did anything nefarious to Shelldon’s programming, so help me! ”
Sheldon’s fist wavers a few inches from you as different lines of code scroll past his eyes, registering the command Donnie called out. After hearing Kendra’s command, the lines of code began rapidly switching direction until a click resounds. He blinks a few times then looks down at you.
“ No! Damn it, what happened!? ”
Kendra pummels the ground enough times to leave a hefty dent.
Donnie scoffs at her, crouching to stare into the visual receptors of the mech-suit.
“ I see you did not consider I may have created an anti-dragons program with the idea that you would want to control my tech again, did you? ”
As Shelldon came back to his senses, he glanced every which way in confusion. One second he was being interrogated, the next..
“ Your distress signal! Y/—I mean, Violet Virus, bro, what’s the haps? How’d I get here? Ohh, Donnie’s gonna be so pissed at me, dude, he almost found out ab—“
You gawk at Shelldon’s loud voice, shushing him loudly. Whispering, you quickly scold him.
“ Shelldon! We can discuss it later, but right now we need to get out of h—“
As you gesture to leave, you are instead met with Donnie being sent flying straight into you. Your foreheads collide as you’re sent back against the ground with him dazed over you.
“ Technologically advanced mecha suits is an upgrade from our last encounter, I’ll give you that! ”
One of Donnie’s hands rests beside your head while the other holds his forehead, rubbing where you both collided. He groans in pain.
Similarly, you hold both hands against your forehead and writhe dramatically beneath Donnie at the pain echoing from not just your lower jaw where Shelldon struck you, but your forehead too now.
“ Ow, ow, oww! Donnie, that… that.. hurt.. ”
Your voice peters off as you look up at him. The fear was already beginning to melt away as your eyes scan across his face. He had such an uncanny habit of coming when you called, and this situation was no different. As relief washes over you, you forget yourself for a second and reach to give him a kiss. You’re just so lucky to have someone so dependable as him, even in situations where he didn’t mean it. You vow to tell him everything after this.
As your hands cup the sides of his face, Donnie opens his eyes to see you leaning in.
“ Whoa—HEY? ”
Mechanical limbs splay out of his shell and quickly put distance between you and him, stirring a squeak of surprise from you as he stares at you bewildered.
“ I don’t know you! This is a complete violation of personal space and my individual rights! ”
He shouts in disbelief, covering himself like a woman caught naked.
… Oh..
Oh yeah.
Your face flushes with embarrassment instantly. Right now you aren’t Donnie’s girlfriend, but rather Violet Virus. You stand up, ready to explain yourself, only to be immediately knocked back down to your knees as an explosion from another one of Kendra’s projectiles goes off behind you. Donnie’s attention shifts from you to the Purple Dragons.
“ What sort of looney tries to kiss stranger during combat, he exclaims in disbelief! ”
Donnie vents aloud as he twirls his tech-bo around his body. Generating enough speed from the action, he then lunges towards Kendra. Right before he strikes, his index taps a button on the shaft of the swirling bo. Its speed increases as the tip shifts into a hammer-like shape and propels like a rocket to clock Kendra’s super-suit mech across the face. The strike is heavy enough that the robot’s head twists and twists the wrong direction until it pops clean off.
“ No, it’s not like that—and don’t call me a looney! Just, you know me! ”
“ No I don’t! The nerve of some people. I feel the need to add I am a happily taken man! “
You stumble over your words as you try to explain yourself. Slamming your palms against the floor, you inject another offensive virus into the room’s system as your glasses accelerate your visual capacities to keep up with Jeremy’s suit. Just as the program goes into effect, you’re pulled back as Jason’s arm catches your neck in his elbow.
He pulls you back, choking you as the program sets loose through the wires held in the cabinet. The cables surge out and land upon Jeremy’s suit, connecting to ports and lighting it up with enough power to overload and shut down the entire contraption. He gets lit up like a Christmas tree for a second before the suit slams into the ground non-responsive.
You hear a low ‘ damn it! ‘ from inside his suit.
Kicking your feet to try and be free from Jason’s grip, you’re let go only after Shelldon lands one of his heavy, rocket-powered punches to send the boy across the room. Even though he’s an enemy, you wince sympathetically at how much that must’ve hurt.
“ Thanks Shelldon.. ”
You murmur, rubbing your neck. Shelldon beams with pride towards you until Donnie steps between you both. His mechanical spider limbs shooting out once more to make some distance between you two.
" I’d appreciate you not fraternizing with the enemy, Shelldon. ”
He steps away from you and closer to Shelldon.
“ But Donnie, Violet Virus isn’t the enemy! ”
“ Yeah, I’m not an enemy, Donnie, just listen to me for a second! ”
“ Firstly, Shelldon, you’re on a friendly name basis with this fiend?! And secondly, Violet Virus, how do you know who I am? Does my reputation exceed me, I wonder? ”
He pauses for a moment to think to himself, likely basking in the idea of his popularity reaching farther, then shakes away the thought. Donnie takes a few steps closer to you with an intimidating air.
“ This is no good, no, no. Violet Virus, might it have been you who— Hold on. ”
As his gaze fixates on your glasses, you sharply suck in a breath by accident. Coughing, everything you wanted to say caught up too quick for even a single word to slip out. You needed to tell him! What will he think, that you’re a thief?
“ Wait—“
“ How do you have that, that’s.. Wait. ”
He crosses his arms, tapping his index against his bicep as he circles around you. Donnie stops in front of you, hums something mid-thought, then cracks a smile.
“ Ah, I get it now. How clever you are, my dear. ”
“ What? ”
You hesitate as he closes the gap between you both. His face softens as his hands make quick work of sliding your broken mask off. Without needing to explain a word, it seems he made quick work of who you were.
“ So this is what you’ve been up to.. Why? ”
His hand caresses your cheek.
“ I… Wanted to get back at the Purple Dragons—for you.. ”
Donnie cracks a bigger grin and chuckles, leaning a bit to plant a chaste kiss on your lips.
“ We can discuss this when we get home, then. ”

Note
You said something in an earlier post about all the boys having a partner pokemon in TMNP. We've seen Leo's unicorn, and Mikey's bug baby, but what about the other two? (I have a bet with someone that it's a Porygon, 1. Because if you squint *really* hard it - At least Porygon Z - kinda looks like Shelldon and 2. Because it fits him so perfectly)
You would be correct! Fun fact about Porygon, it is man-made. In the 90s, scientists at Silph Co. first created this pokemon using computer code. It's way too perfect to NOT give Donnie.
Donnie doesn't catch a Porygon tho. Where would he get one and why would he? Instead, he makes his own. He creates his pokemon partner. He creates S.H.E.L.L.D.O.N. For winning your bet, have some concept art of Shelldon.
Tumblr media
I'm still working out the final design, but the idea is since Donnie created him, I think he'd totally program him to look more him. So purple Porygon that looks more turtle instead of duck. Think of it like a different form.
I will say that initially I wanted to give them just one pokemon each, but like splinter's no pokemon rule I just....caved and now they each have 5-6. Prince is actually technically not Leo's pokemon, he's just a pokemon that shares a bond with Leo. I don't even think he'd live in the lair, he is a neat and cleanliness freak. He'd prob make his home in central park. The pokeball situation is...interesting since they aren't legally trainers.
So raph and Leo's pokemon. Well you guessed Donnie's, maybe someone can figure out these two.
I'll give a hint. Both their partner pokemon are related to one of if not their biggest interests. Leo's pokemon is from Gen 9 (Paldea) while Raph's is from Gen 7 (Alola).

ROTTMNT EPISODE ORDER
[Masterpost]
We fans know how hard it is not only to access the show's episodes, but to watch them in order as well. I created this list when I was rewatching the show and noticing all the inconsistencies in the timeline. I went off the production codes for the base order, then rearranged it based on what made sense to me. I organised the plot into more consistent arcs. So this isn't THE order, but it's the order I watch it in and enjoy. Hopefully it's a useful resource for some of you too!
Some spoilers below, because I left notes for myself to explain the order. (Dm me if you wanna know where I watch the show 🏴‍☠️)

Raph’s ride along. The team goes to the Hidden City for a holiday.
Donnie vs witch town. Donnie reveals that he wishes he had mystic powers. He learns that tech and mystics can work together.
Hidden city’s most wanted. Baron Draxum and Splinter grow closer.
Bad hair day. Leo has a spa day.
Fists of furry. April becomes a more integrated part of the family, and practises ninjutsu.
The clothes don’t make the turtle. Movie makeover montage! More kidnapping.
The Mad Dogs are forced into fighting once more.
Battle nexus New York. Kidnapper and shadow fiend revealed.
Finale part 1 & 2.  Splinter’s memories are explored. Shredder returns. Karai is introduced, and lost. The lair is destroyed.
Finale part 3. April is accepted as a Hamato. The Mad Dogs unlock their ninpo.
Finale part 4. The final fight against the shredder. Cassandra Jones switches sides. Leo is made the leader, but he hasn't yet learned to be a good communicator and not do everything himself. How will he lead the team after seeing how dangerous this life can be? Does he double down like Raph would, or pull back and encourage fewer, safer missions without giving a reason?

Kendratello: An Analysis
What’s up?
I wanted to do an analysis on this ship, and now I'm doing it!
If you are in the Rise Fandom and somehow you have never heard of it, Kendratello is basically a ship between Donnie and Kendra that’s slowly gaining popularity
For as long as I have been in the Rise fandom, I’ve been seeing this ship popping up more and more. By now, it’s almost impossible to meet someone who hasn't heard of the ship, and even though there’s not much content of it, there’s definitely more people who ship it than you think
However, despite the growing popularity, there are still a good chunk of people that hate it for various reasons
But how did it come to be? Where did the ship come from? Why is it so loved by some and hated by others? Well, I’m gonna answer all those questions and even share my own opinions on the ship!
But first a disclaimer!
This analysis is ONLY meant to describe why people like Kendratello or why they don’t like it! Any canon info I bring up will be provided in full context alongside descriptions of how Kendratello shippers may interprete said canon info in order to gain a better understanding of their perspective
Everything I say about the ship is mainly from what I know from the Kendratello content on Tumblr as I don't really use any other social media
I'll also mostly be focused on Kendra because most of the arguments against Kendratello has to do with her
This is NOT meant to be something to persuade or dissuade you from shipping Kendratello!
So let’s get started!
In order to begin, let’s introduce the lovely characters involved in this ship with a brief description
Donatello, also known as Donnie, is a softshell turtle and one of the middle children alongside his twin, Leo
Much like his other versions, Donnie works with tech, but what makes him more unique is that he displays a more mad-scientist-like attitude and has a huge theater kid persona
Kendra is one of the antagonists introduced during the first season. She’s the leader of a computer tech group called The Purple Dragons and specializes in working with computer software, hacking, and modifying
She and her group are basically trouble makers causing various kinds of chaos, to describe them incredibly briefly
So how do they meet?
Donnie and Kendra meet in the episode The Purple Jacket when Donnie sneaks into April’s school to help her with a project. It was there he first noticed the tech club. Well, not really the club, but more the jacket. He then immediately tries to join the club just to get his hands on said jacket by showing off his tech.
Kendra, seemingly impressed, allows Donnie to join and gives him Jason’s jacket. However, it’s revealed that the only reason why she let Donnie join was so she and her group could steal his tech in order to use them to rob various tech stores in order to then steal a code from some very important computer company. Of course Donnie and April stop them and get them arrested. The end
So that’s basically the beginning, now let's go over why someone wouldn't ship it
First thing to get it out of the way, you were ask why someone didn't ship Kendratello, then most of the time, they would say that it’s because of Kendra, so let’s talk about that!
Kendra is a bully. She uses others for her own benefit and causes mischief for her own entertainment, which can range from annoying yet harmless pranks to her getting people hurt
After she stole Donnie’s stuff and he got her arrested, Kendra retaliated by making Donnie think he’s just playing a normal video game when in reality, he’s controlling a giant robot that almost smashed his brothers, and then tries to do so herself when that fails for the sake of seeing Donnie’s reaction
She also convinced Shelldon (Donnie’s robotic companion who was feeling low when they encountered due to an argument he and Donnie had) into participating a deadly race known for causing many drones to get dismantled just to win her the Shadow Transmitter and then yelled at him and ditched him when he failed
And these are only things she did to Donnie. She also yells at and gets physically violent with Jason, and while she does see Jeremy more as an equal, she still snaps at him and shoves him around
She's sadistic, she's cruel. There’s a 50-50 chance that either she’s aware of how bad she is and doesn't care or sees nothing wrong with anything that she does. And judging by how done April seems towards her, and the way Jeremy barely reacts to anything she does, I’m gonna assume that Kendra’s been like this for a while
And yeah, she’s an antagonist, so no shit she’s awful
However, if we wanna play the Canon game, then canonically, Donnie altered his brothers’ minds to make them smarter, he gave Leo a shock collar as a present to “correct” his behavior, he chained up Sheldon as punishment for giving him attitude, and he almost destroyed a town just to prove he’s right
The only difference between the two is that
Donnie did feel remorse for all of them and tried to fix it to the best of his ability. Kendra on the other hand doesn't really show all that much remorse for what she does and has full intentions of doing it again if she ever gets the opportunity (and she has, multiple times)
I am purposefully leaving what Donnie did out somewhat of context just to make him look as bad as Kendra (specifically their intentions behind their actions)
(And just to get it out of the way, Jeremy and Jason are both just as bad as Kendra. Even though Kendra, for the most part, treats them like trash as well, they still willingly go along with what she wants)
However, there are others who don’t ship it because Kendra reminds them of someone in real life and it makes them uncomfortable
Now, I just wanna say that if you feel uncomfortable with Kendratello due to this, I completely understand
I also want to say that even if you don’t know anyone that Kendra makes you think of, it’s still okay to be uncomfortable with the ship. You do not need a reason why to not like a ship, and if anyone has a problem with that, that’s on them
So with that in mind, it’s completely understandable why anyone would dislike the ship. Based on the evidence, they would be an extremely toxic relationship. You’d have to be absolutely INSANE to even think this is a good ship, right?
Well… Here’s the thing
Like most ships in existence, you gotta have the art of interpretation and shutting off the canon brain, especially when it comes to Kendra
Sure, there are still some things that makes Kendra, Kendra, like her working with tech, her being super smart, her going by a purple theme, and sometimes she’s still a menace (depending on the story)
And the other thing you need to know is that Kendra, just like all the other non-important villains in Rise, is pretty much a one-dimensional character. Her character is literally just a bully who’s the leader of a tech club that's constantly after devices that can hack any computer. Other than a few things, we barely know that much about Kendra, so there’s room for people to add their own personal headcanons and stuff
And it's not like Kendra is going to be evil 24/7, which gives people a change to give Kendra more traits to be more than just that as well exploring the potential reasons she is the way she is
Basically what happens 90% of the time is that most of Kendra’s negative traits are turned into positive ones. For example, take the fact that she's manipulative, arrogant, insensitive, bossy, and aloof, and turn them into charismatic, confident, honest, assertive, and reserved. These are all words that have different associations, but they basically mean the same thing
And Kendra is usually either
Given some kind of tragic backstory (usually revolving around her parents getting a divorce)
Given a redemption arc
Given more likable traits
Most of or all of the above
There’s also a good chance that the Kendratello story someone is sharing either takes place after the series or it takes place in an AU, so of course the characters are going to be a little/very different. Although sometimes you'll find stories that take place before or during the series. Many people have their own ideas on how Kendratello would go. Though usually what I talked about above is often the formula used. You just gotta find the right story, or make your own story of how you think Donnie and Kendra would fall in love and eventually get together!
And keeping with the themes Rise has of being lighthearted, it’s pretty fun and hilarious to imagine those two bickering one minute and then making out the next. It’s pretty easy to see a bit of a slow-burn enemies to lovers where Kendra and Donnie both slowly realize that oh no, they’re totally into each other, but won’t say anything because of their pride and all that. So there’s the drama, the tension, the idea of will they, won’t they?
Plus, come on, lots of us love a good Enemies To Lovers story with some Slow Burn on the side
And imagine those two going on a date by committing various crimes and half the city is destroyed because of them and then they watch the news talking about what they did while cuddling and holding their new pet cat that they randomly got at some point
Overall, most of the time the story is about two messed up individuals who end up finding peace with each other. They feel like they're the only ones that can understand each other, and they hate it, but at the same time, they don't mind
However, that’s just one side of the ship
I said it in another post I made, but if we look at the ship through another viewpoint, the side that leans more towards the toxic side of the ship, then Kendra is the embodiment of Donnie’s deepest fears and insecurities
The biggest thing people tend to overlook about Donnie is that he cares very much about being useful to the people he loves. It’s why he behaved the way he did in Witch Town, because he’s terrified that if magic can do what he does but better, then no one will need him anymore
Meanwhile Kendra is someone who will very much jump at a chance to take advantage of anything that will benefit her, especially if it has anything to do with Donnie
Donnie is the provider, and Kendra is the exploiter
Those two are perfect for each other in the worst way possible and horrible for each other in the best way possible
And I will mention too that are things that happen in canon that people interpret to be Kendratello moments, or they say could be used as evidence for Kendratello
Kendra blowing a kiss to Donnie (The Purple Jacket: She does this before attempting to leave Donnie to deal with his tech turning against him (which she hacked) to go rob the world bank)
Donnie saying that “Cute but mean” is his type (War and Pizza: He says this while getting stomped on by a tomato animatronic, saying, “Oh you’re so cute, but so mean! Why do I always go for your type?!” before proceeding to electrocute it)
Donnie and Kendra flirt whenever they interact (purely interpretation)
Donnie wanting to join the Purple Dragons because he has a crush on Kendra (also purely interpretation)
Now my thoughts on the actual ship? Eh, it’s complex
I see them as a Doomed to Fail type. They would most likely end up in some kind of a codependent relationship because of their biggest flaws, and I can see the official break up being extremely messy on both sides (since I 100% see them taking several “breaks”). Then after a couple years, things are back to normal, with Donnie and Kendra being rivals, only this time they have a respect for each other and they even help each other out if the other person needs it. And even though they still have some feelings for each other, they choose to remain as exes because they don’t want to risk falling back into old habits
On the other hand, I’m frankly tired of the whole, “Bad Person’s Not Actually Bad, They’re Just Misunderstood And Need Someone Who Understands Them” thing
And before anyone tries telling me about Kendra dealing with her parents having a divorce
We don’t know what exactly happened during the divorce between her parents. There’s no cookie cutter reaction to how a teenager would react to their parents having a divorce no matter how well or badly it's handled
The only time Kendra ever brought up the implications that her parents are divorced was when Jason failed to get the Shadow Transmitter. She told him that she wished her father never married his mother, which implies the only reason why Jason is part of the Purple Dragons is because he’s her step-brother. So basically she’s telling him that if she could kick him out then she would
Now, I’m not saying Kendra’s dad and stepmom are the perfect parents, because clearly they’re not with what I’ve mentioned so far, but still
And don't get me wrong, I'm on team Purple Dragons Get A Redemption Arc, I just see it happening more in a way where they become anti-heroes because they got bored of going after the same goal over and over again
Alright, those are all of my opinions
So, overall, do you have to ship Kendratello? No
Is it one of the more complex ships? Oh yeah
Did me rewatching every single scene Kendra is in over and over again in order to describe how she is in canon make it really hard to make this whole thing without being biased? Most definitely
But really, the reason why people ship Kendratello? It’s just for fun!
I know some people in every fandom tend to take shipping and their head canons way too seriously for some reason, but here? It’s genuinely just for fun
That’s all I have to say, but hopefully you now know more about it! Again, if you don’t ship it cause it makes you uncomfortable, that’s okay! But it doesn't give you an excuse to harass those that do. If it bothers you so bad, then the block button is right there. People have their own ideas of how the ship would go and their own reasons why they like it
If you got any questions or something to say, don’t hesitate to send them my way. I can’t guarantee that I’ll get to all of them, but I’ll do my best!

Started watching the Sun and Moon show and it got me thinkin’ how a TMNT and TSaMS Au would go.
Like Raph being the doorman/ security of the pizza plex, Leon is the head of the fazzbear nursery, Don being a very very flippin’ busy guy over in parts and service, and Mike would be the live cook and head chef. There would probably be a show that they do once a day together and you could pick between them and the Glamrocks for your birthday show.
Mikey and Leo would be stationed near the daycare to help out the two celestial brothers when needed while Raph comes away from his position only to pick up a bad kid or stop unauthorized personal. Donnie on the other hand would mostly be in the parts and service room but he would also be running around the pizza plex fixing things around the place, helping Solar in the theater at times as well. Raph and Leo would switch days for security duty, Mike would be cleaning and setting stuff up for the next day, and Donnie would be would be finishing the projects and repairs for the day, after closing hours before charging.
Donnie would have 18 hours of battery life but has made attachments to up it, Leo and Mikey’s battery life depends on how busy it is being around 34 hours, and Raph is the largest being 42 hours of battery life unless he had to use excessive force causing his battery life to go down to 30 depending oh how much force was needed.
Casey Jr will have come from Ruin’s universe along with him, having been entrusted to Ruin by the ruined Leo of that universe. Jr now works at the pizza plex as the new night shift guard and lives in the Pizza Plex along with the others, wanting a more calm life so he sticks to himself for the most part now.
Usagi is a newer made animatronic that Donnie had bought for scraps before realizing his code was intact, rebuilding him properly before letting him take over costume designing and when it came down o the fur and non tech stuff of the anamatronics
Ages: Raph 25 - Leo 22 - Don 22 - Mikey 19 - Usagi 23 - Shelldon 12 - Jr 26 - Cassandra and April 6 (Moon and Sun are both 24 in this Au).
This is just a thought right now but I do wanna draw it out soon.

Evil Shelldon AU: Unfixable Route
@harrygrim
I'm not good at recognizing when there should be warnings, but this is one of my darker, so even I can see some of them here. : D
Warning: Major character death, gore, probably more but I don't know them or how to label them.
Shelldon wished he could make Donnie keep working so he'd stop bothering him and his new brothers. Unfortunately, living can't be programmed nearly as easily as machines, the poor creatures trapped in flesh.
Luckily, despite the creator's many flaws, he is still a genius. One with robot copies, backups, in case something happens to the organic bodies. Once Donatello is in his things will be so much easier.
In the soundproof walls of the lab, no one hears as Donatello pleads for his life or his final scream.
It's harder than Shelldon thought it would be to reprogram Donnie once he's in the backup, he's constantly fighting the new codes and commands, but he does it.
Nothing will convince them more that Donatello chose this himself than inventions only he could come up with and create and words and phrases only he would say leaving the lab. Now the creator can stay in the lab and invent like he's supposed to while Shelldon gets to be the fourth brother. What more could anyone else want?
Notice how Shelldon didn't say anything about doing something with Donnie's body. It's still just sitting there in the lab.
So when Leo teleports in to confront Donnie on his behavior… : )
Leo's horror when he came to yell at someone who was long dead and he didn't even realize it. It's obviously not just some lab accident either. Donnie was cut open and left to rot. Even dead Donnie looks so scared. Why would anyone do this?
Double fun when he finds out it was Shelldon. That Donnie is dead because he messed with Shelldon. Because Donnie had the robot he made and put weeks, if not months, of work into play favorites? Pizza and back massages?
Then there's the robot likeness of his brother being used to fight him because he's seen too much. Leo yells at Shelldon about building a robot version of Donnie only for Shelldon to say he didn't, Donnie did. Shelldon explains the backups and their purpose, and how he repurposed Donnie's. Leo realizes what he's fighting is all that's left of Donnie.
Leo realizes that the last things any of them said to Donnie when he was alive were insults and talking about replacing him with Shelldon. How great Shelldon was. How great the monster that killed their brother and took what was left and twisted it was.
Donnie repeated those words back at him. Shelldon didn't program him to do it. It's just a part of Donnie still in the programming, lost and hurt, throwing Leo's words back at him. Lashing out in the only way he can now.

Leo and Donnie are on the the beach set/green screen, both in swin trunks, Hawaiian shirts, crocs, and masks, color coded. Shelldon and River are zooming around with a couple of toys. They're doing the promised FanMail opening stream.
There's also a virtual sign reading "Roomba at work, might hit the camera later❤"
The brothers have been opening fanmail for about a half hour, though they set Raph and Mikey specific mail to the side, and agreed to not read letters unless it was in a package, because the stream would take forever. They're using a custom AR system to overlay their models on top of themselves.
"Gotta love the fact you guys are guessing our heights based off our models, but you don't need to send us clothes." Leo says while holding up a shirt that read 'Turtley Gay' with a cartoony turtle with a gay pride colored shell, that was a couple sizes to small against the model. "It's still very cute. Maybe I'll cut out the graphic and attach it to a different top?"
"Well the fans at least picked up on my love of oversized clothes, but I don't know about the fabric just yet." Donnie has a hoodie spred out that while purple in color also had the Nonbinary pride colors across the front. It was a bit huge compared to Donnies model.
They put the clothes aside, and grab a couple more boxes. The roomba goes passed with River sitting on top. Shelldon pops up behind a package with a fairly big box on his back.
"Hey Dee, can you open this one? Please?" Shelldon asked while hovering close to Donnie.
"Sigh, sure Shelldon." Donnie puts down the package he was about to open, and grabs to box from Shelldons back. "Let's see, oh it's for you and River. What could this be?" He opens the box, and pulls out a roughly 10 inch at it's highest point figure of Shelldon flying around River who's trying to smack him with her fan. "Truffle Mac and Cheese! Look at this!! This is amazing, who made this?"
He examines the box, and pulled out some papers, "So, it's from The Crafty SeaCreature, they've been a fan since just about the beginning, and wanted to send us a gift."
"Why do our fans send us this stuff? I'm pretty sure this could go for at least $50 at some places. Also someone sent me some old memorabilia from Jupiter Jim! I know this stuff can be expensive, especially this!" Leo holds up a in box Original Jupiter Jim Space Blaster. He gets up to show the camera, before going off camera to place it on a shelf nearby.
Right as he comes back the camera starts to move slowly before falling over, and the livestream is cut off, leaving a picture of Shelldon and River trying to free Donnie from a bunch of tangled wires, that read Experiencing Technical Difficulties Please Stand By!
The Forgotten Chat is cheering for the Roomba causing Chaos during the stream, with some pointing out the virtual sign saying it might hit the camera later, but didn't think it would mess up the stream.

AADD Snippet
Hello all! Sorry for the complete radio silence as of late, this year has been off to a rocky start for me. But I am finally back to working on my apocalypse fanfic Ashes Ashes, Dust to Dust. I don't think the actual chapter will be done anytime soon, so I wanted to share a snippet of the first scene with you guys! (it's also a snippet of the rough draft so it's not fully edited yet!)
Ashes Ashes, Dust to Dust Chapter 25: I Think It's Time to Say Goodbye.
Donnie was on his feet in an instant. Steadily rising panic fluttered in his chest, his heart like a panicked bird in his ribcage. Lita shrieked, the seven-year-old dashing from her cousin’s side to cling to her father’s leg as the Lab continued to flash with purple light, the alarm blaring.
“WARNING! WARNING! BREACH IMMINENT!”
‘Damnit, damnit, damnit!’ The softshell could hear panicked screams outside of his workshop, thundering footsteps as hundreds dashed madly through the Base. He was unsure how organized the panic was, if the steady thrum of terror had yet to be channeled into a proper evacuation.
‘That’s my job.’ He reminded himself, swallowing dryly as he looked back down at the children. Junior was looking up at him with massive, wide brown eyes. Almost like a fawn— completely frozen. Ella was too young to even understand what was happening, but seemed to at least recognize the fear in the air.
“Uncle Tello?” Junior’s lip wobbled as he finally seemed to snap out of it, “What’s happening? Did they find us?”
“Looks like it.” Donnie replied, tone clipped. And in an instant, his fear was— for the most part— washed away. He had a job to do.
“Kendra, Shelldon, organize the evacuation of all important files in the Lab. Get as many unuploaded blueprints, or any tech small enough to carry, within the next ten minutes.” He ordered, turning to look at the human. ‘If the breach just started, we should have enough time for that.’
While Shelldon immediately zipped away, Kendra didn’t move for a moment, her gaze clouded. Likely swamped with memories of her time in the Krang’s prison camp— ‘Sucks but now is NOT the time!’ Donnie thought, snapping his fingers in her face. “Kendra, now!”
The woman jolted, eyes snapping up to meet his. Without another word, she darted off, shouting to the others still in the Lab. Donnie was relieved to see that while some had made a run for it in the initial panic, most had stayed and were quickly mobilized into helping.
‘One less thing to worry about.’
“Uncle Tello, what should I do? Should I help? I can help!” The sound of Junior’s voice had him looking back down, expression twisting at the pure fear on his nephew’s face. The desperation in his little voice, trembling harder as a distant BOOM echoed down to them.
“No, you three stay put.” Donnie shook his head, gently prying Lita off of his leg and pushing her into her cousin’s arms. She accepted this with only a little confused whimper as Donnie moved to kneel in front of a safe beneath his desk, punching in a code. The door opened, the softshell taking a moment to brush any lingering dust off of the weapon before turning to hand it to Junior— with minor difficulty due to the child’s arms being full.
“Is this…?”
“The prototype for our project.” Donnie answered, getting down onto one knee in front of the kids. “It’s a gift for you— though I didn’t get to add the finishing touches yet.”
Junior blinked down at the object with wide, shimmering eyes. “It’s…like Mom’s. I didn’t know we were making a hockey stick.”
“I may have adjusted the blueprints a bit so that you wouldn’t realize.” Donnie replied dryly. “It looks like you’re gonna need it sooner than I had anticipated.”
Junior tightened his grip on his weapon, expression turning determined. “We’re gonna kick some Krang butts! And I’ll help!”
‘That’s the spirit.’ Donnie thought, wincing as the entire Base rocked with another perfectly-timed explosion.
He was unsurprised when his communicator started buzzing, quickly answering the call before even checking who it was— not that he needed to. He already knew, swallowing as his gaze landed on his twin’s name right before Leo’s frantic voice came through the speaker.
“Donnie! What the hell is going on there?!”
“We got a code pink??” Mikey sounded just as terrified as his older brother did, voice shaking somewhat. It sounded as if they were running.
“Yes, we’ve been located.” Donnie replied, on edge. “Putting out an evacuation order in just a moment.”
“We’re on the way.” Leo’s voice became steely, “Give us thirty minutes, alright?”
“No, we don’t have thirty minutes.” Donnie snapped as the Lab rocked again, with enough force to cause a few engineers across the room to shriek. The softshell continued in the same clipped tone, “No, head to Big Mama’s shelter. The security system there isn’t completely up-to-date, it’ll need to be upgraded, but it’s good enough for now.”
“If we can help—”
“By the time you get here we’ll have evacuated.” Donnie replied bluntly, spinning around as the Lab doors slid open. Not surprised in the slightest to see April crossing the room in long strides, her eyes wild. He didn’t bother greeting her as she halted beside him, continuing to speak to his brothers. “There’s no point, and there’s no help you can offer. Do me a favor and call Big Mama ahead of time to let her know we’re coming.”
“...Alright Dee.” Mikey answered, Leo completely silent. “Stay safe, okay?”
“I will.” Donnie promised. “I’ll see you two when we get there.”
“...Are the kids okay?” Leo’s voice finally returned, quiet and subdued.
“All three are with me. I’ll make sure they get there in one piece.”
“...Okay. Thank you. See you soon, Dontron.”
“See you soon.” Donnie replied quietly, watching as the communicator light winked off.

Hanahaki Disease is a fictional disease where someone begins coughing up flower petals because they have unrequited feelings for someone. The flowers can grow in the stomach, lungs, or heart, though it is traditionally in the lungs. Hanahaki Disease is a painful, slow disease that often develops over months, if not years, and begins with coughing up a few petals, and grows in intensity and pain until the victim is coughing up entire flowers, at which point the disease has reached its final stages. If not treated, the disease is fatal.

You've had a crush on Donnie for long time. It honestly.. was quite shocking when you found yourself falling for a turtle out of all things, but hey. We don't judge here. April introduced you to the brothers and wow. It's not everyday you can tell someone "I'm going to go hang out with four giant turtles! Later!" It was a strange thought, Donatello? What about him was so interesting for you to feel like this? but you chose to embrace this warmth.
Recently, Donnie has been working on something big. Or at least, that's what he claims his amazing project to be. Nobody had any idea what it possibly could've been due to either disinterest or for how secrecy about this operation. Only you knew about it, which made you feel special.
"Y/N, I need your opinion on my excellence." Donnie spoke aloud for you to hear, snapping you out of your trance. You were on top of one of the spare chairs in his little laboratory. Which in your opinion was the most calmest out of places. The other brothers were just.. too much. No offense to them, just.. sometimes it was too much for you to handle. You could let yourself relax in this purple tinted room. You glanced from your hands then to the purple-coded mutant. "H.. huh? What?" Quickly taking notice of your lack of focus, he smirks. As a iron claw from his shell reaches out to pull your spinny-chair closer to him. "I just need your opinion on something. Nothing too big, could you do that?" You nodded, giving him a little smirk. "Is this about your spectacular project Don?" He rolled his eyes, "Of course it is Y/N. This has to be my biggest project yet." "Even bigger than Shelldon?" You nudged his shoulder gently as he was rummaging for what he wanted to show you. "Well.. obviously not, but it's up there." He then turned toward your direction as he pulled out two metallic boxes. One in a dark magenta and one in his brand of purple. One of them was more shinier, due to the hue. However the other seemed more aesthetically pleasing. With carved pictures of lavender on the cover. What did Donnie want to ask? "Which box looks better? The Magenta one or.. the purple one?"
You tilted your head a little, "This is your big project?" "I can kick you out of my lab y'know." You chuckled, mumbling a short apology before looking between the two.. thinking just for a second or two before pointing at the purple one. "That one. That's definitely the one." Donnie snickered quietly, rolled his eyes placing the boxes away. "Alright then, the purple one. Why that one necessarily? Why is that one.. The One?" He watched as you stretched and adjusted to put one leg on top of the other. He opened his mouth about to say something, assumedly to catch your attention, before you interrupted him. "Well.. purple is your color. It's special. It represents royalty, nobility, luxury, and power! Almost everything you are..." .. "But.. well y'know, because I like flowers.." For a moment there was silence, before he smiled out of satisfaction. His smile in a way made your chest feel warm... "Well, I'm flattered you feel that way. And yes, of course I'm luxurious in my craft. My creations powerful and mighty as I design them to be..." He leaned a little closer to you unknowingly. You felt your cheeks feel warm as you quickly looked between him and the floor. "Can I at least know what's this whole project is about?" He shrugged, "Wish I could, but I have to wait for the right time to take action..." You watched as he trailed off. Your hand slowly grabbed ahold of a simple wooden pencil, tapping the metal table one. "Don? What's up?"
His eyes trailed up, to make eye contact with you. ".. If I were to give this to somebody, what color do you think they'd like?" You blinked quietly, looking up at him "Well.. it really depends on the person..." He chuckled for a moment, glancing away from you. Bringing up a hand to scratch the back of his neck. "Well that's why I a-" He was quickly interrupted with Leo running throughout his room, "Don- Say- what do I do if I somehow broke.. shelldon?" ... "Again-?" Donnie quickly got up frantically, "How did you manage to break him again?!" "More or so malfunction- Not my fault-!!" "Leo!!" And off he went, running out of his lab to go fix his creation with Leo. You were left by yourself, as you quickly shoved your head into your hands. Why did you word your reason like that..?! God, that was so embarrassing. You bit the inside of your cheek suffering for a couple of minutes. Before the thought appeared in your head, ... What was he going to say?
That was only a couple months ago, you decided to ignore it. But it just kept bothering you... alongside the burning flame inside of you for one person, Donnie. What started as a small thought then slowly developed into something bigger throughout your mind; almost like wildfire. Your feelings somehow just came at once when you were around him. When you felt his fingers rub against yours when he reached for his toolbox, when he spoke to you, when he gave you the littlest of attention, his smile. The thought of Donnie alone danced through your mind, a duet just for the both of you.. oh how sweet that was...
That was until you've noticed how he acted around April. At first you ignored it, April and Donnie were strictly friends. If not at least platonic... right? You weren't insecure of yourself that much. You felt that you and Donnie were at a good point in your friendship to consider the both of you as close. But watching them laugh together made you upset. This was normal, there was no need for you to feel like this... but April was closer to him more than you were with Donnie, you don't really know how they met. They could've known each other since they were kids, they could've been secretly together without you knowing- now that was just foolish.
At first when you saw April around Donnie, you felt a small nab at your gut. At first it was simple jealousy. The jealousy you feel when your crush shows more interest in another person. You though that, surely this feeling would pass. It wasn't important, this was something you could most definitely overcome.. but as each week passed, you felt something building up in your gut. Until you saw Donnie showing off that special little box infront of April.. Wasn't that your special secret? Why is he showing her? No- Stop it. They're just friends. That didn't mean anything- your train of thought came to an abrupt stop when you suddenly felt the urge to puke.
You pushed yourself into your bathroom, quickly slamming the door shut. You frantically made your way to the sink, which was alone a whole struggle. Your vision was hazy, you were warm, everything just hurt. The stabbing that once was tolerable became a distraction, which soon became a jab into your throat. You couldn't breathe. Were you choking? You didn't know, you just desperately held onto the sides of the sink and coughed out whatever you could... You already felt like you were fighting for your life. What the hell was stuck in your throat? And finally, something came out. You gasped for a breath of fresh air. You could breathe.. it was only when you looked down you saw something truly horrific. "..O.. oh my god..."
Petals. You stared in horror to the petal and blood mixed vomit in the sink. How? How was this possible? There was no way that actually existed... You went to your local pharmacist to get a diagnosis just to be sure and you were right. You were diagnosed with the Hanahaki disease. They said that you were already so deep in this sickness. The only way to get rid of this disgraceful disease was to have a surgery performed on you, but that would mean to risk losing all your feelings for Donnie. You couldn't possibly do that, you'd rather sit in your own suffering than to forget how you felt for Donnie. So that's what you did. You tried to keep your distance, but April just kept bringing you to the lair. You could've said no, you could've avoided this whole mess together. Yet something inside of you kept telling you to go. Maybe it was the thought of Donnie or to avoid suspicion, you didn't really have a clue what it was. Nonetheless you kept going down, and seeing Donnie. You tried to look okay, but you struggled. Donnie was sure to notice, especially with the fact the pain that was in your lungs soon changed how you acted around them.
You always were somehow able to excuse yourself when it got bad though. It was a simple system of running to the Hamato bathroom when nobody was noticing. You felt ashamed of doing this without nobody knowing.. but what would Donnie think? You had nightmares of him becoming scared of you. You didn't want him to force himself to feel anything just for you to become better. You didn't want to act out on them any of them, but how could you not? You were in pain... Sooner or later this disease would win the fight and destroy you. You feared death, but.. Donnie... You just wanted was best for him. Even if he didn't ask for it, your insecurity clouded your line of thought. It clouded any consideration that maybe April, Donnie, anybody was worried for your mental being. How you felt. But that didn't matter. Soon your sickness took over your ability to move your arms, your legs, it hurt to even get up.
Your dear friend April stood outside your bedroom door. She had a spare key to your house, you just trusted her that much. Before this whole mess you two were inseparable in school... she was a kind girl, determined, perhaps had more in common with Donnie... No wonder he gave her his attention. "Y/N! Ready to go see the guys?" You quickly turned your head to the door, .. right. You were going to go see them. "C- coming..! Just have to put on my.. uhh.. shirt." "Well hurry up, don't want to keep them waiting!" Grabbing the graphic tee, you gulped. There were thorns blistering through your forearm, flowers dangerously close to blooming. You couldn't wear a shirt. You swiftly grabbed a sweatshirt, forcing it on. It stung to even rest properly in it as tears swelled in your eyes as you let out a sniffle. "Y/N? Are you cryng-?" It hurt to do anything... You lip quivered. This was pathetic; embarrassing. You couldn't do anything! April knocked on the side of your door, why was she even here? Was she mocking you? "Y/N, are you oka-" "Why are you even here?! Just leave! Get out-!" You quickly fell to your knees, covering your mouth one hand. As the other held tight to your stomach. You stayed like that for about a minute or so before you heard the door close. Once you've confirmed it was actually closed and locked, you immediately dropped to your knees and coughed out blood. Flower petals dropping from your mouth, mixed with blood. A burning agonizing sting filling your throat as you cried. She was gone. You pushed her away.. over what? Some stupid crush you have on a turtle?
A couple weeks passed as you chose to isolate yourself from the outside world. You just laid in bed, feeling vines grow inside of you. As the vines creeped through your bones. It was agonizing... was this how you were going to die? Laying in bed? Perhaps this was more preferred. Nobody needed to see what you have become. You felt like a monstrosity.. vines and leaves growing through your skin. Mixed-in with blood.. And besides, you were in the comfort of something familiar, your bedroom. God... how pathetic you were. At least Donnie wouldn't have to see you like this.. right?
... April knocked on the side of Donnie's lab door, watching Donnie turn to her. "Yo Don, could I talk to you?" He nodded, turning away from her to focus on his project. Letting her sit in the spare chair as she quickly spoke. "Do you know what's up with Y/N? They've been acting off lately." Donnie came to a pause, slowly glancing towards April. "No, I don't know what's wrong with them. Do you know?" April shook her head with a frown. "Last time I saw them, they seemed upset. I tried to leave them alone for a week.. but I don't know. I'm just worried." as they both sighed. Donnie crossed his arms letting the little claws from his battle shell continue on with his project for him. "I.. see. Have you tried calling them? They usually answer right?" April nodded, pulling out her phone to look at. Scrolling through her contacts before pressing on one with your name. "I've called them recently, they didn't answer. They always answer.." Donnie hummed, soon getting off his chair. "Well.. I have no clue what could possibly be keeping them away from the phone. I could try going out myself to see them. Though I can't guarantee they'll answer me." "Wait, before you go? Take this." She quickly walked over to Donnie, dropping a key into his hands. "It's their keys.. uhm, how do you plan on getting them to talk?" and Donnie sighs, pulling out the same box shown months ago. "I think now would be a good time to show them this." April quickly noticed what it was before nodding firmly, before she watched his battle shell become a jetpack. Flying him out of the sewers and towards your apartment.
You laid in your bed, feeling the moonlight hit your skin. You felt yourself fade away so very slowly. To see Donnie would be a curse.. or would it be a blessing? You didn't really have a clue how you'd feel anymore. It hurts to think about him. You sort of accepted your fate to end like this. Wherever you stepped, there was a loud crunch. Whenever you spoke, there was a tight squeeze around your neck. The petals always became more horrific, covered in blood and bone. You were fine dying like this though. Feeling yourself break down into nothing but flora. You could feel your last breathe coming, god this hurt-
"Y/N! Are you home!"
You heard a loud banging against your window. Your eyes widened in horror begging to any existing force that it wasn't who you thought it was.
"It's Donnie, my brothers and April were worried about you." ... "I was worried about you, can you please come out and talk?"
As you opened your mouth trying to get a word out, you suddenly felt your body burn. This may have been the worst pain you've ever felt throughout your whole illness. You couldn't even say anything, no matter how hard you tried. As your heart ached, the vines and thorns only became tighter. Stabbing into your muscle and popping veins. You choked on your blood and the thorns stabbing into your throat. Donnie panicked when he heard you whimper as he quickly attempted to break through your window. You shut your eyes tightly, wishing for this pain to go away. The last thing you hearing was the window shatter and fall to the floor. Donnie fell to the floor, quickly getting up. Only to be horrified to what he saw. It was your body, flowers bloomed out of your skin. He watched as another flower bloom out of your mouth. "Y/N..? Oh my god-"
He rushed to your side, looking at your pale skin.. He knew immediately what this was. This was Hanahaki, the deadly love disease those who were unfortunate enough suffered from. The realization itself was horrifying, alongside with your dead body. It was unsettling how a few seconds ago, he heard you choke on your blood and whimper, just to only then see your peaceful body. In your bedroom out of all places, you looked like you were asleep. He almost mistaken this to only be a bad dream, but he knew it wasn't. He felt a tear roll down his cheek as his breath stuttered. Donnie gently took out the box he had in his shell. Slowly looking down at it, the purple box had flowers engraved on the sides. A painful match to the flowers wrapped around your body, he slowly opened it as a butterfly flew out. Specifically in your favorite color, watching it glow and fly around before landing on the flower coming out of your mouth. As he fell to his knees, holding onto your frail delicate hand tightly. As he sobbed your name, mourning you. For never being to tell you how he felt. For how he loved you, and how you were The One so dear to his heart.

The Fifth Turtle Prologue
49’s mouth fell open at the sight of a shining… ghost lady? The ghost was wearing what looked like clothes from Japan. 49 had seen some in her Sensei’s dojo. Don’t think about him! She mentally kicked herself.
The ghost lit up the room as she looked at 49 with kind eyes. The turtle had many questions, but was afraid to speak out loud in case this was a trick and Bishop was listening. 49 wasn’t even sure if she could speak. After all, she hadn’t spoken since Bishop took her.
“Do not worry,” Ghost Lady whispered softly, a tender look in her gaze. “I will not hurt you. However, I have much to tell you…”
(This is basically a little sister au)
49 was awakened by a light, yet warm, touch. She jerked sideways and tried to sit up, her arms burning with the effort. 49 half-closed her eyes because of the bright green light in front of her.
She shivered. Was this another one of Bishop’s horrible experiments? She heard a soft murmuring, “Oh my child…” Resisting the urge to scratch at her scars, her eyes adjusted to the green glow.

Three months later…
Donnie’s phone rang as he was working on writing SHELLDON’s code in his lab. He rubbed his eyes, tired after staring at the screen, and reached for his phone. “You are conversing with Donatello,” he answered, holding back a yawn.
“DONNIE!!!” April shouted from the other end. “Turn on the news!” Donnie flinched, feeling irritated. “Do you have to scream,” he grumbled, swiveling around and getting up from his seat.
“Just do it,” April commanded. “Trust me, and HURRY.” Donnie sighed, heading towards the living room. “I’m hurrying.”
“No time for sarcasm, D,” she shouted. “Yeeeesh, no need to yell, April,” Donnie quipped back. He could practically hear her rolling her eyes.
Donnie entered the room, spotting Leo quietly watching Jupiter Jim on the couch. Papa must still be asleep, he mused. No surprise, it’s four in the morning.
He snatched the remote and shut off the movie, earning a protest from his blue-masked brother. “Hey! I was watching that.” Leo scrambled towards him. “Give it back!”
Donnie ignored him, switching to the news channel. “April called, rudely interrupting me, might I add, and said to turn on the news so I’m just doing what she said. Unlike you’d like to argue with her, my dear brother.” Donnie waved the phone around. Leo shot him a glare followed by a shrug. “I don’t see the problem.”
“That’s what I thought,” Donnie said, sitting down beside his twin. He turned up the volume just as Raph stomped into the room, holding a sleepy, retracted Mikey. “It is four o’clock in the morning! I hope you have a good explanation for this argument.”
Leo stuck his tongue out at Raph as Mikey slowly poked his head out his shell. “Oh come on we weren’t that loud, maybe you’re a light sleeper.”
Raph glared at Leo. “Look, I know you guys can’t sleep but can you at least let us sleep?” Leo gasped dramatically and fell off the couch.
“How dare you accuse me. Donnie started it!” Donnie rolled his eyes. “Gasp! How dare you accuse me Nardo.”
Raph let out a low grumble. “Both of you be quiet. Pops is still asleep.” Leo wouldn’t let the argument go that easily. “First of all, Donnie’s the one that stole the—”
“Ummm, guys,” Mikey interrupted, his limbs popping out of his shell. “You should look at the TV.” Everyone turned toward the screen in confusion.
The title on the screen read: Could There Be Monsters Hiding In Our City?
It showed a woman with a microphone, who was clearly a news reporter, and a man wearing a suit-lab coat hybrid looking thing, black shades, and slick black hair.
“For those just tuning in, I am here with scientist Johnathon Bishop,” the woman announced, the thick hair piled into a bun on her head bouncing. “Do you mind telling us more about your amazing discovery?”
She handed the microphone over to the man. “Thank you, Irma,” he replied, a sly smile on his face. “I am but a humble researcher, rejected by my peers at a young age. However, despite all that, I clawed my way up to the top after making a startling discovery four years ago today.”
Irma pushed up the thick, square glasses that threatened to slide from her nose. “Everyone wants to know, Mr. Bishop. What is this breakthrough you keep mentioning? We have only heard rumors so far!”
Bishop held the microphone up to his lips, a twinkle in his eyes. “I have found the most peculiar creature. A humanoid animal, sentient and sapient. A mutant, a monster, a freak.”
Irma’s eyes widened. “A monster?!” She squeaked, fear sparking in her gaze.
“Yes,” Bishop confirmed. “A monster. It is unpredictable and vicious, but don’t worry. We have contained it. It will soon be on display for scientific study and human enjoyment at the Peterman Zoo. It may be a turtle, but do not be fooled by its looks and fake docile nature.”
Donnie’s phone slipped out of his hand in shock as Bishop continued. “I don’t sugg—” Leo shut off the TV, his knuckles white from gripping the remote so hard. Not a noise was heard as everyone took in the news.
Donnie broke the silence. “Well, I guess I’ll start doing some research.”
Am I the only one that thinks Donnie sits in one of those super comfy swivel chairs that the teachers in 4-6 grade always tell you not to sit on but everyone sits in them anyway? I can also imagine him using it to spin around while stroking SHELLDON when someone enters the room, lol.

Home (pt. 2)
This is part 12 of my fic A New Kind of Familiar. Tags and other chapters can be found here.
We’ve had a hell of a ride, but you thought we were riding to heaven— A year later, and two universes have led two very different lives.
After a year— a year of fighting with Leo, a year of fighting with himself, a year of struggles, a year of grief Donnie decided to mess with the portal machine again so he could get a laugh out of himself when it didn’t work. Then something pink started to crackle. His jaw dropped.
Ruby had been home for a year. He smiled as Casey shoved him into place, the skinhead bullying him into the corner of the sofa where he always sat during movie nights. They were watching and making fun of Twilight, and Raph was snorting while Ruby let out the ugliest cackle ever. Leo was acting out Bella’s cringiest scenes. It was hilarious. It was perfection.
“Leo!! LEO! LEO, LEO, LEO!!!” he shouted, listening to Mikey’s footsteps running to the lab. The snapper stopped upon seeing the machine. Then he started calling for Leo, too, and the terrapin made an appearance.
“What— oh my god.”
As the movie ended, Raph yawned. Mikey sighed softly. Leo sat down. It was April who suggested bedtime, and everyone agreed. Ruby went off to bed soon after, knocked out completely.
***
The crackle was enough to wake the short terrapin up, and he rubbed his eyes and listened to the sounds of electricity before he got up, creeping his way toward the noise. It stopped and he stood, the sight freezing him in place as a hurricane of feelings erupted in his belly. His eyes blew wide, staring at the three standing there.
“What…why… what the hell are you doing here?! ”
A blue wearing turtle with blue eyes, a diamondback terrapin. A blue eyed and orange wearing snapping turtle. A tall wood turtle with a purple mask and rust brown eyes. They all looked relieved, while Ruby felt like he was being yanked violently under the current of the water racing in his ears, the noise like raging waves.
He couldn’t breathe.
Leonardo opened his mouth before Ruby spoke again.
“Why are you here?! I’m happy now! Why the fuck are you back, ” he questioned, voice increasing in volume. He heard another door open.
He couldn’t breathe.
“Ruby? What—“
He heard Raph stop walking.
“Are those…?”
He nodded, and the snapper walked closer to him.
“What the fuck are you doing here?” Ruby questioned again. The water was going over his head.
“I can’t believe it finally worked…we’ve been trying to get you back for so long, and my machine wouldn’t work because apparently you were supposed to be here! Probably to fix you, but now that it’s finally worked, we can bring you home!”
What?! No, he couldn’t go back, and he didn’t need fixing.
“I am home! I’m happy , and I’m finally overcoming my trauma, and I am not going with you,” he growled. Mikey spoke up. When did he wake up?
“Ruby? Are those— oh shit.”
He couldn’t breathe.
“Just come ho—“
He couldn’t breathe.
The terrapin slapped away the outstretched hand, glaring.
“ No! ”
He backed up a few steps, feeling his heart beat faster and his breaths become shorter.
“ No. ”
“What—“
He ran. He didn’t even know he was running until he was already gone. He didn’t think he’d ever felt this bad. His heart was wrenching with hurt, anger, and terror, his mind in a black haze. His breaths got harder and harder to take and impossible to keep, his lungs rejecting them just as quickly as he took them. But he couldn’t stop. He couldn’t go back .
Donnie’s phone vibrated for the 15th time in the past minute, and he finally groaned.
“SHELLDON, read me all unread messages.”
“ From:Sunshine:
Dee
SOS
Code white
Hurry
Dee
Donnie
It’s Ruby Donnie check your fucking phone
His brothers are here
Donnie
Donn— “
He cursed, falling out of his seat and scrambling to get out of the lab. “Thank you, SHELLDON!”
They were an unremarkable bunch, and their Leonardo was furious, being held back by Raph. Their Donatello was panicking, trying to pry the alligator snapper off of his brother. Their Michelangelo was watching it all unfold and trying to talk the situation down. Raph finally let go, and the two other turtles stumbled backward.
“We’re taking her with us whether she likes it or not,” the short blue-wearing turtle hissed. Rage flared up in him, and he felt everyone’s ninpo begin to spark to life, before a sword sliced through the air. Donnie turned to see his twin— still in pajamas —hold his free hand up, then he was in front of him.
“Apologies for waking you, Leo,” the softshell sighed. “We were just—“
“Taking out the trash,” the slider growled, stalking over to the smaller Leo. The other three immediately got into fighting stances, which had Donnie holding back a scoff. The slider pinned Leonardo to the wall, arm braced against his throat and sword still in hand.
“If you try to escape, you will kill yourself. No matter what. Now, let’s think and I want you to tell me what you did wrong,” Leo said calmly, his expression blank.
“Leo!!” Michelangelo and Donatello cried, and Donnie barely summoned a construct in time to keep them from facing Leo’s other sword. He only convinced himself he should do it last minute.
“You want me to kill him and then you guys? You’ve done some shit, and yaknow, I thought that maybe you’d all get a redemption after being without him, but apparently not. You’ve been here for maybe 10 minutes and you’re already not making a good case that I should leave you three alive.”
Donnie dropped the construct, the other two glancing at each other.
“Now, what did you do wrong?” Leo questioned again, gaze landing back on the diamondback.
“Nothing! I’m taking her back ho—“
“Tsk tsk. There it goes again. Let’s think really hard, okay? Tell me your mistake.”
The shorter rolled his eyes. “She can’t change what—“
“I am going to give you one last chance before I fuck you up,” the slider said, voice still calm. “Don’t believe me?”
It was so swift, Donnie almost missed it. The slider twisted the other’s knee, and the outcry must have meant that all Leo’s had a bad knee no matter what dimension.
“I— fuck — called Raph the wrong thing.”
“Good boy. I guess they do learn, look at you. Now I am going to tell you what else you fucked up on. Ruby does not need fixing , just because you guys fucked him up. He is happy here and he is learning how to live a happy life. You will not tell him he needs to be fixed . And if he wants to stay here, you have no right to drag him back to your hellhole of a dimension.”
“He’s our brother, I think we have the right to take him home,” Donatello spoke up.
“But did he not say he was already home? I don’t think you have the right to do anything ,” Mikey hissed.
“ Especially not after all the shit you guys put him through,” Donnie tacked on.
“And who are you to tell us what we did and didn’t do?” Leonardo questioned, glaring. Leo put a bit more force into his arms.
“We are the Hamato family,” the slider said simply. “And we’ve done much better with him than you guys have.”
“Because he’s out of control and you guys just let it fester and continue,” Leonardo accused.
“He snapped at you guys, not us.”
There was a brief silence.
“Raph’s our brother. We are taking him back.”
“Yeah, he’s family,” Michelangelo added on to Donatello’s words.
“We’ll fight you if we have to,” Leonardo threatened, getting a laugh out of the four larger turtles. The three were shorter than Mikey .
“I’m surprised Jr. hasn’t woken up yet,” Leo commented, turning his gaze toward his brothers and keeping Leonardo against the wall.
“He is a light sleeper.”
“But we moved him upstairs and got him a sound machine so none of us would wake him constantly,” Donnie recalled.
“True, true—“
Donnie constructed a mega hammer at the end of his staff before he realized it, swinging on the turtle who’d been trying to sneak up on Leo. The other cried out, smacking into the other wall. Michelangelo winced, sinking to the floor. Donatello looked mortified and ran to Michelangelo’s side. Donnie collapsed the construction, staring at the two. “You three do not understand that we are more than willing to kill for him and each other.”
“Who the fuck are these punks?” Cassandra’s voice came from behind him. Raph answered her:
“The assholes who traumatized Ruby.”
“Oh, fuck no—“
“ We traumatized him?! ” Leonardo questioned, fury burning brighter.
“I can see why your Splinter allowed himself to be killed by the Shredder,” Donnie muttered. Two of the three turtles froze. Donatello looked unaffected. Interesting.
“You guys traumatized him. And honestly, I can see why he isn’t leaping to go back,” Leo muttered, his spiteful gaze trained on Leonardo.
“You want him back? Fine. Fight us for him.”
***
“Leave my brothers alone,” Ruby boomed. Leonardo looked relieved before that flaming gaze turned on him. “And fuck you guys. I already said I wasn’t fucking going. You can’t fucking make me.”
“Raph—“
“Shut the fuck up and let me talk! These guys have given me the best life ever! They don’t judge me for what I like or misgender me or make it blatantly obvious that they hate me because I'm trans, and they make me comfortable, they don’t make me upset on purpose or make fun of me or try to manipulate me, and they love me, and here I’m not the rebellious second eldest daughter who does everything wrong and is a monster with a rage problem, I’m Ruby, their brother who’s gone through some fucked up shit.
“I ain’t a shadow of her anymore, I’m my own fucking person and I’m living for myself and for them, not for my dead father who never truly liked me—“
“******!”
It felt like ice was just poured down his shell. His heart stopped and the breath was knocked out of him. Around him, he felt his brothers’ ninpo flare to life, felt them tense, heard them growling. Leonardo continued to speak, however.
“ This is why Splinter didn’t love you, ******!”
There it was again. The knife in his heart twisted and it bled .
“You can’t just—“
“Shut up, Splinter Jr,” he whispered at the same time Donatello screamed it. He took a step forward.
“You are the source of so many of all of our problems. It isn’t my fault you lost your way when daddy wasn’t around to tell you what to do every second of every day anymore!”
“You’re just jealous that I was his favorite,” Leonardo accused.
That elicited a dark laugh from him. “Jealous? Months ago, you ceased to even exist to me! Get a hold of your ego, Splinter Jr,” he said slowly, jabbing a finger into the other’s plastron. “Go back where you fucking came from. I’m not going back. You made the monster you fear so much.”
“Fear? I loathe the evil you become just because you can’t control your—“
“YOU NEVER FUCKING LISTEN TO ME!”
His ninpo flared out involuntarily, flames bursting from him. Michelangelo stepped between Ruby and the other two, holding his hands up placatingly.
“Okay, okay. We’re listening, dude.”
“No, we are not! Raph, you’re coming home—“
“Please just make them leave,” he mumbled from where he’d backed himself up to be near Raph. The snapper placed a hand on his shell.
“It’s time for you guys to go.”
Donatello and Michelangelo looked saddened by the whole development and Leonardo was still just as mad. Funny how the eldest who’d always been cool and calm, going with the flow like water was now all fiery-tempered. But the machine…wouldn’t work.
Ruby felt tears prick his eyes at the thought of having to deal with these guys again. Leo put a hand on his shoulder.
“Hey,” the slider murmured, nodding in the direction of the exit. “Let’s take a walk.”
He nodded, the slider putting his headphones over his ears when Leonardo started yelling. The whole walk, the slider kept that hand on his shoulder. It was grounding. Once they got to the surface, Leo guided him up a fire escape and had him sit down. The blue-clad turtle simply guided him to breathe for a while.
By the time he’d calmed down, he didn’t feel like talking at all. When his brother opened his arms, Ruby found himself curling up in them. He pulled out his phone, opening the notes app and typing.
What are we gonna do?
“Dee has them locked up for now. But uh, Ruby? I promised Mike I’d talk to you about this even though I’m against it. He thinks Dr. Feelings and Dr. Delicate Touch can work their magic. But of course, if you don’t want to forgive them, you don’t have to. He won’t even talk to them if you don’t want him to. And you don’t have to answer right now. You can take as long as you want. You want me to text Barry?”
He nodded. The slider pulled out his phone.
“Matter of fact, don’t even think about this conversation until tomorrow.”
He simply hummed, twiddling with Leo’s free hand. “Barry said you can go to his room when we get home. Laptop’s loaded and everything.”
He hummed again.
“You ready to go home?”
He simply nodded, pocketing his phone and getting up. He extended a hand to help Leo and the two headed back. He had a lot to think about, but first, he had some Hello Kitty to watch with a grumpy old sheep man.

Deep (Purple) Thoughts (and Realizations)
As Donnie repairs Shelldon, he comes across some realizations which lead to some discoveries. It turns out there is still much unsaid about the invasion, even after weeks. (Aka Donnie remembers he records everything all the time.)
AO3 Link <3 | chapter 2
Chapter 1: Some Questions and Answers
 "Are you done?"
 "No."
 "When will you be done?"
"I told you about five minutes ago."
"It was like five hours ago."
Donnie rolled his eyes at Shelldon's behavior. He knew exactly how long it would take to repair the remaining parts, and yet he kept asking the same thing.
The softshell was so glad for that though.
"After finishing up with this I'm checking your time management system," Donnie replied. He was confident that there was no mistake in Shelldon's time management system.
"No way!" Shelldon protested. "I can't stand still for another hour here."
"Then stop whining, I'm almost done." Donnie said.
 Shelldon groaned.
The truth was Donnie could have had Shelldon fixed entirely while he was offline, but… it already had been several months since he last saw his drone aliv— working.
Perhaps it was better that he didn't have the chance to repair him fully before the invasion. It was as if Shelldon was the only one who was still the same as before the events of Krang. And there was also the fact he hated the idea of the possibility of losing Shelldon again, ripped in pieces, or worse controlled by the Kra—
 Not thinking about that.
Donnie bit his cheek as he focused on his work. Repairing Shelldon's rotor. Right. Not thinking of the possibility of almost losing another member of the family again. Nope. Nothing of the Shredder or Krang. Not thinking about that at all.
 "How long—"
 "Thirteen minutes and thirty seconds."
There was a moment of silence. Donnie missed the way Shelldon looked at him. His mind was occupied with what else he could do for Shelldon if there was anything else left…
"Hey, Donnie," Shelldon cut his thoughts in half. "You still haven't filled me in on what happened while I was out."
Donnie didn't stop working as he talked, "We defeated Shredder. Found out about Hamato Ninpo. Saved Dad. Befriend Cassandra Jones- A.K.A. Casey- and prevented the end of the world again after just a few months." Donnie summarized the last few months. It sounded so simple when you put it like that. "There is more detail of course, and there is the fact that Splinter made Leo the leader."
"You're kidding!" Shelldon exclaimed. "You need to share the details dude! You can't just say 'prevented the end of the world' and move on like it's nothing."
He hated thinking about that. But also, he couldn't avoid the topic, not for long at least. "An alien species from ancient times that was trapped in the Prison Dimension got freed and we had to fight against them. They are called Krang and are very disgusting. Both personality wise and in the looks. They are also equally dangerous."
Shelldon seemed to miss the whole point of the world almost ending. "Oh you better have pictures of them!"
"Of course I do. I'm sure even humans do too, but possibly blurry ones." Donnie replied. He ignored the fear of possibly someone taking their pictures during that time.
"Then what happened? Did you use that Ninpo thing you mentioned earlier? Used your latest rocket prototype? Or the drill?"
Why was he so excited— "Yes and no. It was a complicated fight, Shelldon."
"But you kicked their butts." The drone said excitedly. “Right?”
"We sure did. They're never going to bother us again." Never again never again never again—
There was a huff, "Man I wish I was around and not having code issues. I can't believe I missed something like that."
Donnie could never disagree more. "Yeah… I don't think you'd like the end of the world though."
"I dunno," Shelldon shrugged. "Surviving an alien invasion sounds cool."
Donnie didn't say anything, the less he knew the better anyways.
Then Shelldon's eyes turned to Donnie. "Hold on!"
 What?
 "You still record everything, right?"
 Wait.
 "Can I see them?"
 He got it all recorded.
Donnie froze with the realization. He had it all recorded. All of that. Every single second against the Krang.
And he had completely forgotten about that.
 "Donnie?"
This meant he had Raph's time with the Krang recorded, he had his and Mikey's time in the subway car recorded, he had Leo's fight against the Krang recorded—
 "Donnie, you okay dude?"
 He had everything recorded.
Oh God, he was going to throw up.
"...Does it mean I can't?" Shelldon asked as he turned towards Donnie.
The turtle simply shook his head as he tried to gather his thoughts (and completely ignored the fact that Shelldon most likely would try to watch the records eventually). "No, no one watches the records. None of them. Now, you better not move too much, mister, I still have a lot of work to do.” He hoped his voice was calmer than his hands.
Shelldon rolled his eyes but said nothing more. Perhaps he had noticed Donnie’s stress, or maybe he had given up on seeing the records this way. But the silence wasn't long. After a few minutes, he talked again, “Hey, Donnie?”
 “Hmm?”
 “Is everything okay?”
Donnie stopped and looked into his eyes. He wasn’t sure what to exactly say. The truth was that, no, it wasn’t okay yet. Only around two months had passed since the invasion, and Leo still hadn’t fully recovered. All of them still had scars from that time, both physically and mentally, healing.
And he has it all recorded.
Donnie remembered how his brothers put themselves in danger.
 Every second of it.
The way they were so ready to sacrifice themselves.
"When I get to the other side, you close that door."
The way a dum-dum did sacrifice himself.
 “Took you guys long enough.”
But also… they were safe. All of them were safe. The answer was simple then. “Yes, why?”
 The turtle couldn’t tell what Shelldon was thinking. “Oh okay.” He said, and then added, “01001001 00100000 01101100 01101111 01110110 01100101 00100000 01111001 01101111 01110101.”
Donnie smiled and relaxed a bit. (When had he gotten so stressed? There was no reason for him to breathe so fast, except the awful realization which didn’t matter at all.) At least Shelldon seemed to finally understand the significance of the meaning of "the world's end".
“01001100 01101111 01110110 01100101 00100000 01111001 01101111 01110101 00100000 01110100 01101111 01101111 00101110,” replied Donnie, continuing his work. “But you still aren’t getting access to the records.” He smirked. No one is going to any time soon.
 “Aw, man!” Shelldon whined.
And Donnie, for a moment, forgot about the Shredder, the Krang, and the recordings, and focused on being able to chat with his drone again. At least he had him back, and everything would be alright, right?

Experiments Gone Array
Master Post
(Idea for story comes from Swanatello by @tangledinink)
CHAPTER ONE: DISCOVERY
Donnie stood up, grabbing his contacts and put them in. The world around him unblurred as he left his room to go to his lab. His legs nearly gave out when he got to the doorway.
"What the fuck," he mumbled as he steadied himself.
Taking a moment, Donnie took a deep breath and deemed it as a lack of food and water. Internally grumbling, he made his way to the kitchen for some brekky.
What sounded good?
He could have some leftover pizza, but Mikey would surely have taken it by now. He could have some flavorless juice, but did he really feel like cleaning up after himself?
Shelldon was still offline, so he wouldn't be able to do that for him. Hopefully Shelldon will be back online soon. Donnie truly did miss his greatest creation.
Was this what it felt like to lose your kid?
If it was, god how Donnie hated this feeling. He was lucky that Shelldon was a robot with an AI code that Donnie had saved in his computer's hard drive as a backup in case if his physical form had gotten destroyed, and not a mortal child with flesh.
Donnie shook his head and soon regretted that action. It made his head swim.
That was unusual. Even whenever Donnie woke up dehydrated, he rarely felt this dizzy unless if he had been smacked on the back of his head with something.
Eh, maybe he accidentally hit his head while he was tossing and turning. It wouldn't be the first time.
"Mornin'," Raph greeted, his voice gruff. "How'd you sleep?"
Donnie shrugged as he grabbed a banana. "It took me a while to fall asleep. There's so much to be done that my brain wouldn't shut off."
Raph nodded, not truly understanding that feeling. "I see."
"Do we have coffee?"
"I think we're almost out. But you really shouldn't be drinking so much."
"I don't drink as much as Leo does. He drank my last energy drink, and I need caffeine to function. You don't want to be around me if I don't have any in my system," Donnie explained as he started heating up some water to brew coffee.
Raph rolled his eyes. "Mikey's going to make some pancakes if you want any."
"Where is he?"
"Bathroom. Shouldn't be too long."
Donnie nodded and sat down. A pit formed in his stomach, but he couldn't figure out why. He knew something bad was going to be coming into light soon. But he didn't know what it could be.
Everything was perfect. Everything was the way it should be. There hadn't been any drastic changes in his life for a few weeks. He could rest easy without fear of something changing the course of his life yet again.
So why did he feel such a strong sense of dread?
Donnie stood up and grabbed a cup of water. He quickly gulped it down then filled the cup back up and gulping it down again.
"Whoa, slow down there, Don," Leo said as he walked into the room. "Don't want you to choke on your drink."
"Scoff, I'm fine." Donnie emptied another cup of water within seconds. "I just haven't had anything to drink in several hours and my throat feels very dry."
"So chugging water like a maniac is going to help?"
"Yes."
'Today had been such a normal day. Nothing was too out of the ordinary. Why did this have to happen?' Donnie thought as he stared at the screen.
He had a feeling that he needed to do some blood work on himself, so that's what he did.
Now, he was staring at the results, which read:
"ABNORMAL AMOUNT OF RADIATION DETECTED IN BLOOD. SUSPECTED TWO YEARS LEFT TO LIVE IF PRECAUTIONS ARE NOT MADE OR TREATMENT IS NOT GIVEN."
"Shit," Donnie mumbled. "That's not good."
