162 years ago, on this day in 1861, twelve people were arrested in New York for taking part in a drag ball, also called a "Macintosh ball" by this paper. The article describes people "dressed in gorgeous style, sporting the most costly silks and satins, and having their hair dressed in curls and other feminine attractions."

January 31, 2018 Sassy Says: “Resist!”

In 2017,  Los Angeles Pride Parade was cancelled and was replaced with a Resist March. After all the work that the queers before us did. We were repeating history and once again taking to the streets to fight for our rights! Education is the key. Ignorance breeds intolerance. Learn to love one another and if you can’t learn to love one another, look the other way. We are not a free people until everyone of us has the same rights. Sassy says: “Love Wins.”

January 4, 2018 Sassy says “My first paid gig.”

After winning a few pageants, I started getting calls to host Drag Shows. This was one of the first. performing aboard a ship in Boston Harbor for Boston Pride! Talk about a Boston T Party! Glad I wrapped myself in a fishnet!

Sassy says “Happy Drag History Month”

“Once upon a time there was a little child that grew up before: social media, RuPaul’s drag race and even before marriage equality. A child that would defy gender norms and push the boundaries of social tolerance and acceptance. This child grew up to become Sassy.”

As I was looking through photos to bid a fond farewell to 2017, I stumbled upon photos spanning my career. All the way back to my very first time “In Drag.” I have never posted any type of “Transformation Tuesday”-style photos so consider this a look into my style evolution.

During the previous months of January (Which RuPaul proclaimed “Drag History Month” coinciding with the premiere of a new Drag Race season) I have paid homage to our ”Fore Drag Mothers” - Sharing the stories of many trans performers who have come before us and have changed the world. Using each of the 31 days to feature the story of a trans individual. 

Now in 2018 we have made significant advancements in civil equality -California has introduced the FAIR act; Fair, Accurate, Inclusive, Responsible Education act. Which requires classroom instruction in the state to include information about the contributions of a wide range of Americans, including Native Americans, LGBT people, and people with disabilities. Our stories are finally being told!

So this year, instead of trying to narrow the field to only 31 innovative Drag Queens. (Doesn’t each season of Drag Race feature 31 Queens?) I have decided to celebrate 31 days of me!

This January, I am going to get more personal than I have before and share photos from my own life, some that have never been seen on social media before. I will also feature the other amazing talents I have been lucky enough to create with, share the stage with or just simply experience life with. This is me, Sassy! 

You have heard history and herstory, now get ready for Sasstory!

January 3, 2018 Sassy says “I'm Miss World, watch me break and watch me burn, no one is listening, my friend...” This was one of my favorites! This was my look for my first pageant. I wanted to be an anti-beauty queen. I went for a Courtney Love babydoll look. Still trying to find myself. I was going by the name “Miss World.” I won the pageant.
