Yeah, there’s the aforementioned Jin and Hakumen (Future Jin).

There’s also Ragna the Bloodedge, the main character, who got his arm cut by Jin as children because Jin was influenced by Terumi to do so (Terumi being a ghost and also the god, Susano’o, no, not a character named after Susano’o, like, he’s actually the Thunder God, Susano’o), so Rachel (a vampire) told him “hey so you can die or I can graft this onto you in place of your arm and you’ll survive” and Ragna is like “ok sure I’ll survive” so Rachel grafts it onto him, “it” being the Azure Grimoire, or the BlazBlue (title drop!!!!) which is the decapitated corpse of the Black Beast, a terrible apocalyptic monster that was defeated 100 years ago, and then Rachel, seeing as the same incident where he lost his arm left him without a home (Celica, the nun who took care of him and his siblings, died, and Jin and Saya were kidnapped by Terumi after the church was set on fire) dropped him off with the Cat People, where he met Taokaka (she was still a baby at this point, though) and Jubei, a cat dude who is also one of the Six Heroes who killed the Black Beast 100 years ago, who goes on to become his father figure and master.

So Jubei trains Ragna and gives him a sword-scythe and a red jacket once Ragna finishes his training, explaining that those were items that belonged to Bloodedge, an unsung hero that pretty much saved the world 100 years ago against the Black Beast: When the Black Beast surfaced, humanity was completely powerless to stop it, but Bloodedge sacrificed himself to put the Black Beast in a coma for exactly one year, tasking the Six Heroes to come up with a way to kill the Black Beast in that year. Only the Six Heroes know about Bloodedge. Ragna accepts the sword-scythe, the jacket, and the title “the Bloodedge” to with him, hence why he’s Ragna the Bloodedge: As an homage to this unsung hero.

Ok so here’s where it gets good:

We find out in the first game that Ragna is actually the Black Beast, or rather, half of it: Every bad ending in that game (so basically every ending that’s not the good ending) inevitably ends with Ragna losing against Nu-13, or Murakumo Unit 13, who stabs him, starts fusing with him, and drags him into the Cauldron (WHICH IS A CAN OF WORMS TO EXPLAIN), and the Cauldron sends them to the past, where Nu-13 finishes forcefully fusing with him, and the result is the Black Beast (so basically, Azure Grimoire/Ragna + Murakumo Unit/Nu-13 = Black Beast).

However, in the light novel, Phase 0, which takes place after the good ending of the first game, around the time of the third game, shows us that Rachel sent Ragna to the past so he can learn about Kushinada’s Lynchpin (another can of worms), and the time travel process pokes holes into his memories, but that’s where he meets Celica (that’s the nun that died protecting him when he was a child in the future) and others, including Jubei (cat dad, whom he befriends) and the other Six Heroes. He doesn’t quite remember his name there, but he does remember part of it: “Bloodedge”. So he’s known as Bloodedge throughout this adventure, and then the Black Beast appears, so he tells everyone “HEY, I CAN TANK THIS DUDE FOR ONE YEAR, FIGURE OUT HOW TO KILL IT BY THEN”, and what do you know, HE WAS BLOODEDGE ALL ALONG. One year passes, Bloodedge is sent back to the future (the Six Heroes and Celica think he died) and he remembers everything now, plus the things he learned in this adventure. His sword and coat were left in the past, with Jubei keeping them in honor of his friend, Bloodedge.

So basically, Ragna is the Black Beast and also the unsung hero Bloodedge.

SO, basically, one hundred years before the story of the first game begins, Ragna attacks humanity and threatens to destroy the world, but fortunately, Ragna stops him and manages to lock him down for a year, and Ragna’s belongings after the fact are eventually given to Ragna, who had Ragna’s corpse grafted onto him to replace his missing right arm, who is fated to become Ragna and Ragna in a stable time loop.
