2023 Wrap Up

Thank you to my lovelies @phoebe-delia and @geesenoises for the tags! You can find their round ups here and here. I’ve lost track of who has and hasn’t done these, so if you see this and want to join in, consider yourself tagged :))

I’m almost a week late, but here we go!

2023 was A Year. I somehow managed to get nine fics out, even though it doesn’t feel like that many. I have multiple WIPs that “should” have been done ages ago and I get so caught up in thinking about those that I forget to look at what I have actually achieved (and then Phoebe has to shake me a little bit!). So here we are, looking back on what I’ve achieved in 2023 - and not letting unfinished projects rob them of their joy.

Some stats

Last year I wrote 19,539 words across nine fics.

I wrote for three fests - magical trans comfest 2022 (late entries!), 2023 trans fest and the inaugural dronarry fest.

I helped mod the inaugural drarry disability fest.

I wrote four gift fics.

I wrote for three unique pairings/triads.

Drarry

The Perfect Knit - the one where Draco is a dog trainer, Harry is an adorable mess, and they both pine

Right Over Left - the one where Harry would do anything for his partner, including learning to braid hair.

This Time and Keep You In This Heart of Mine - the one (two) with eighth year party games, getting together and back together, angsty Harry and cinnamon roll Draco from two points of view.

A Little Bit Of You - the one with misunderstandings, coming out, and redefining love. And possibly the most unique interpretation of Mambo No. 5!

Simple and Confessions - the ones where Rowan tries to write micros.

Triads

The Promise of Things to Come - the one where Harry is kidnapped, and long-held feelings are shared. Established drarry, pre-dronarry

(They) Keep Ke Warm - the one with coming out, all the soft trans feels, and disaster bisexual ron. Established golden trio poly

Non-Fandom

I debated back and forth but I’ve decided to share some of the non-fandom things I’ve achieved this past year. Because they’re worth celebrating too.

Stepping into a senior role at work, while being the only person of my profession in the company, and the only one working across both community and residential care services

Continued studying my Masters

Received multiple diagnoses and started the investigation process for others

Bought a fucking house

Continued to learn about myself as a human being, and, more to the point, embraced those parts of me

Continued to make and grow some of my most treasured friendships in this fandom

Wrote the first words of my original non-fiction book

All in all, I’m not sorry to put 2023 behind me. But I’m grateful for what it taught me and I’ll carry those lessons into 2024.

Dragon Breeding by @bravelittlenippa // E // 8K // Draco/Charlie // this pairing. ugh it's just so good - this new author really killed it! love charlie approaching draco using the techniques he picked up as a dragon tamer, just ::chef's kiss::

He was a dragon keeper, after all. Tending to the needs of the world’s most magical creatures was his whole life. And the most magical of them all was Draco Malfoy. So Charlie did what he did best. He approached carefully. Calculating every movement and shift of muscle, coming up with a plan, collecting supplies, and coordinating his motions to the best outcome.

“Harry,” Draco says softly. He cups Harry’s chin in his hand and brushes a thumb over the soft lips that he just kissed as though this means more than sex, more than negotiated scenes. Because it does. It could. “I like you. Not just in bed. I like talking to you. I like leaning against you on the sofa and hearing about your job. I don’t want to stop having wildly kinky sex with you–” Harry snorts, and Draco smiles. “But I think we could be good together all the time. If we tried.”

So Good for Me by @bluesundaycake // E // 3K // Charlie/Theo/Lavender // i love this triad. daddy charlie is a whole mood (as the children say), and i love how he takes care of his lovers in this fic. plus, disabled character representation for the win!

Theo hummed, melting into his embrace, and his breathing evened out. It nearly always happened whenever they pulled their wizard deep into subspace like this. It ached something terrible and fragile in Charlie’s chest, something so precious that he could hardly think clearly. Merlin, he loved his partners. Lavender caught his eye and her smile was timid too. Adorable and so heartwarming.

Aching with Want by @nv-md // E // 2K // Drarry // ali, ali, ali. what did we do to deserve this fic from you!? the monster in me i saw consensual somnophilia and when i tell you I ran.

I make him tea, with four scoops of sugar, before he knows he’s thirsty. I know the cadence of his breathing that precedes a nightmare, and wake him before the screaming starts. I recognise the pain in his eyes that means he needs to be hugged, to hear that he’s cherished—when he needs inexhaustible love to fill the enduring cracks in his heart.

Keep Swinging Your Bat My Way by @veelawings // E // 670 // Dron // locker room sex! locker room sex! locker room sex!

So Draco tried to focus on just that, on the mind-blowing experience as it happened, and not the fact that they’d yet to get together like this, outside of their team’s locker room. To ignore the possibility of their trysts existing as a shameful secret, instead of a simple convenience, a spark of chemistry that had been indulged.

1. How many works do you have on AO3?

35, one is my unposted Big Bang which will be shared soon! another one is anon for a fest.

2. What is your total AO3 word count?

654.063‬ words, first fic published 27th of November 2020. Okay, listen. I write fics with my wonderful friend @ladderofyears, so about 175K of those are from her!

3. How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?

I rediscovered writing fics by the end of last year, and I only write HP. I started out in my teenage days in the mid 00′s writing fics about My Chemical Romance, Fall out Boy and Panic! at the Disco in my first language, which is German!

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

4. On Truth and Understanding (with amazing art by the talented @bluebutter-art (There’s an uncensored version in the fic and it has soft penes in it. Yes, this is one of the two variants of the plural of ‘penis’, and also yes, this is a shameless clickbait.)

5. Do you respond to comments, why or why not?

I usually do! Especially on longer fics, I feel the need to thank people for reading (it takes a lot of time!) and being so engaged that they decided to send me a few nice words. Comments make me feel really upbeat! I’m excited every time I receive a notification. Sometimes I feel bad when I reply something simple like “Thanks”, but the longer the comment, the more thought I invest in my answer. Also, each and every single one gets a signature heart! <3

6. What's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending?

Two fics come to mind. My very short fic curiosity is surely the angstiest ending I’ve done. It’s an open ending, but let’s just say it culminates in angst, but in an ambiguous kind of way?

Also my fic Euphoria--while the ending is not sad--doesn’t have a disney ending per se. I think the angst is rather subtle but the mood might not let you go out of the fic with the happiest of feelings!

7. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've ever written?

Never wrote a crossover!

8. Have you ever received hate on a fic?

No, fortunately, I’ve been spared so far! Someone harassed a friend and started spamming a few comments, but I disabled guests to be able to comment and put a quick end to it.

9. Do you write smut? And if so what kind?

I DO! I love writing smut. I didn’t write anything too kinky yet, but I wouldn’t exclude the possibility. Many of my fics do have explicit scenes, and I could definitely picture myself writing some one shots in the future.

10. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Nope!

11. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

I do it all the time!! I wrote several fics with my lovely Emma, @ladderofyears, and we go by the name of Laddero0 :D Our Big Bang will be published soon, and I’m so excited about that!! We’ve been writing on this almost all year. If you want a sneak peak of our collabs, I highly recommend our debut Two Hearts Divided or Your Secret's Out (And The Best Part Isn't Even a Good One).

Only yesterday I also collabed with another lovely friend of mine! I did art for a @gnarf’s ficlet What if...you don't have to? <3

12. What's your all-time favorite ship?

Drarry! From my days in bandom, it’s always and forver Pikey/Summer of Like.

13. What was the first fandom you wrote for?

Panic, MyChem, FoB!

14. What's your favorite fic you've written?

That’s so hard to say... I feel connected to everything I’ve written so far. Whenever I reread something I’ve written, it brings me so much joy, either because I remember the process of creating it, or sometimes because I don’t remember at all and am astonished that those are my words! Okay, this sounds odd, but it’s the truth :D

So, I’d say that I embrace my work! Once it’s out there, I don’t have second guesses about it. Those only appear while writing, but the struggle actually pushes me

The week of January 2nd, 2022

So it’s a new year. And I wanted to try something different with this tumblr. I want to actively *try* to keep track of everything I’ve been reading for the whole year. Maybe even write a quick review on some things too. We’ll see how it goes. It’s more for my benefit to reflect on for later. But if you pick up on something I recommend that’s cool too.

Reading:

It’s that wonderful time of year again, folks. The H/D Erised! I’ve never actively participated in this fest but I thoroughly enjoy reading through a lot of the stories. There is one thing to say about the Potter fandom and it’s this: there are so many fucking talented people out there, it’s unreal. And you can literally read forever and ever and never get to the end of it, because there is constant new stories out every day. This fandom is still thriving, and I’ll probably always follow along in it given it’s the longest fandom I’ve been a part of. Anyway.

It’s No Great Mystery by agentmoppet

Rated: E, Drarry, 57k

This story is like a Groundhog’s Day knock off, but Harry Potter style. With Harry having to revisit his 8th year Yule Ball day, over and over. The one thing I really loved about this story was the use of magic. Sometimes Potter fanfiction kind of glosses over the magic, or they use the same spells over and over. But this author went beyond that and expanded on time magic, portrait magic, pensive magic. It was just really neat how it all played together in the end. I also really really loved how almost all the Potter characters were in this story. Often times it’s usually just Harry and Draco, maybe Ron and Hermione as background characters. But this story had everyone...Kreacher, George, Hagrid, even Peeves! It really made it feel even more magical.

Beds, Knobs, and Broomsticks by fencer_x

Rated: E, Drarry, 46k

Ok the concept of this story was what roped me into it, I’ll admit. Draco is a Butler in the Buff and Harry is the recent magically disabled “client.” But instead of 46k of kinky sex, I get a developing relationship dealing with the shear awkwardness of Draco fucking Malfoy walking around his house naked. It’s hilarious, it’s cringe-worthy, and I just couldn’t stop reading it. And Draco keeps his sass at the end which I appreciate.

Benevolence and Redemption by silvered_glass

Rated: M, Drarry, 18k

Auror Malfoy, desk duty. Auror Potter, fit and flirty and dragging Malfoy along on a mini adventure. This story was so lovely. But there are two things that I just really loved. One, the flirting. OMG. Harry just lays it all out there in true Gryffindor style and I’m here for it. And then two, the lingerie kink, which my answer to that is always going to be yes.

Inspired by that one scene in Kill Your Darlings. This was so fucking hot. Hnnng.

Sasaki and Miyano by Shō Harusono

Rated: T? 8 books

Ok, this is a manga series. I just spent my entire Friday night reading it. Why? Because there is an anime series slotted to release of this manga in just two days. Two days!! I have never been so on top of an anime release before, but somehow stumbled upon this in the news and I just had to check it out. And omg, it’s so fucking CUTE. I just can’t even. The main character, Miyano is a fudanshi. And somehow he forms a close friendship with upperclassman Sasaki. They share boys-love mangas together. And it just reminds me of my high school days, sharing stuff amongst my own friends. It’s lighthearted, the love is patient, kind, and consensual. And I just can’t wait to see the anime.

Heartsong: Green Creek Series, Book 3, By: T. J. Klune, Narrated by: Kirt Graves

Ya’ll. Ya’ll. I discovered T.J. Klune last year and I just can’t anymore. I have loved everything he’s written and I’m addicted. These audiobooks are perfect for when I’m at work. And the Green Creek series hurts so good, Jesus.

Did anyone else experience this when reading Heartsong? So the first two books kind of start in a chronological order. Talking about their past, what led them to where they are today. So when we got to Robbie’s story...(spoilers ahead)

I figured that’s what we’re doing here. Except as little details come up, you realize someone has been fucking with his head. That the dreams he has aren’t dreams at all, but fucking memories. And when I figured it out I just about screamed. I’m now at the part where he’s returned to Green Creek but he still doesn’t remember anything. And it hurts. So much.

It's That Time of Year Again...

Drarry Disability Fest 2024

Welcome Back to the 2ND YEAR of Drarry Disability Fest (2024)!

For those who don't know, Drarry Disability Fest is a fest dedicated to the accurate representation of disabilities, d/Deafness, medical conditions, and mental illness; Drarry Disability Fest is the first of it's kind. In this fest there will be no romanticism of disability (though romance will definitely be present elsewhere), instead we want our artists and writers to focus on accurate depiction - whether it be of the sad, mad, or glad times of disability and mental illness.

Our goal is to add diversity to the Drarry fic and fanart community, and we firmly believe that while disability and mental illness can be very difficult to handle, they do not mean that we're destined to a life of inaction and solitude; we are an empowered community.

All the mods for this fest are disabled/mentally ill to some extent, and have experience with a variety of additional disabilities to ensure that we have maximum ability to give feedback and filter prompts to the best of our ability.

We would also like to say that everyone's experience with mental illness and disability is different, so if you end up reading a depiction of your illness or disability that differs from your own, please accept that we do our best to filter the media in this fest so that it is safe for disabled readers, and remember that every different experience with a condition is valid.

This fest will not be anonymous, and we're posting to the fest AO3 Collection in July as that is Disability Pride Month. This year we are starting everything slightly earlier so that all you beautiful creators have more time to create, so follow our tumblr and join our discord sever to be sure you don't miss anything.

Anyone may prompt to this fest, even if you don't plan to create anything, however we will be filtering your prompt submissions on the AirTable to ensure they are sensitive to the disability/mental illness you are wishing to see depicted.

You don't need to be disabled to write about disabilities, but please do your research, ask questions from disabled sensitivity readers, and if you're ever unsure our wonderful mods Ceylon, Rowan, and Kel are happy to help. We have a wordcount minimum of ~1000 or equivalent. This means if you're not doing a written piece then put in the effort equivalent in your digital fanart, podfic, or other media. We do not accept videos at this time.

Beta readers/viewers are required for each submission. You can self prompt when claiming, and you can claim multiple prompts as long as you submit each work before claiming a new prompt.

Sun and Rain [H/D Wireless 2021 Claim]

I can't believe I wrote this back in May! Time flies!

Much much thank you to the HD Wireless mods for their patience and diligence and to @opaleopioid for beta-ing this and convincing me to keep the title.

This is my entry for the H/D Wireless 2021 fest. I remember there were 500 prompts but I knew less than 1% of the songs. I was about to resign and skip this until I saw someone has prompted a song by a Korean band, and it's a song I liked!

It's Drawing the Line (English Version) by Royal Pirates. (The link sends you to a lyric video on Youtube).

The song for me reflects that part of Drarry relationship where they drive each other crazy but they still love each other and want to be together, and how that makes them insane themselves.

I was in a pinch for time back then - I wrote this in like 2 days - so I decided to keep the fic simple. I simply wrote based on the lyrics, even sneakily incorporating the words into parts of the fic.
