Review: Shae Brock's latest single 'Better Tonight' is true feel-good dream rock

Joining the music industry in 2017, it's clear from singer-songwriter Shae Brock's musical progression and insane talents why her work has only bounced from hit to hit. This dream rock artist may have over 70,000 monthly Spotify listeners but she's still only getting started with making a name for herself in the industry, and is much deserving of continued success as each of her new releases brings a new light to her skillsets.

Originally born and raised in Arizona, Brock shares inspiration from her state's limitless landscape of deserts and mountains in the magical colours surrounding her. Now residing in Southern California, her recent work also approaches concepts from deep connections, moments you can almost embody through senses, architecture, history and 'that ever nostalgic feeling of a retro memory that pulls her in.'

With her debut EP 'Dreamers Club' released independently last year amassing over 1 million listens, it's clear that Shae is a name to keep an eye on as she takes the world by storm through her own hard work. Since the start of 2021, she's shared single 'Blue', as well as recently making a return with 'Better Tonight' earlier this month. These few singles are only a handful of Shae's lengthy discography though, with many of her previous singles also reaching consistently high plays and showcasing slightly different sounds for this diverse artist as she fell into her niche over the years.

Shining from the start, 'Better Tonight' is full of glitz and glam with Shae's retro instrumental style full of bass twangs and glittery riffs. Vocally low-toned in the verses, she keeps it sultry and smooth bringing all the 80s vibes and razzmatazz you'd expect from a feel-good dreamy tune. This cohesive instrumental and vocal pairing is nostalgic, taking you back to days of shining disco balls and romancing in person. As she forms her own wave of sound in dream rock we hear the shoeglaze glow among rock undertones in this clean release, absolutely fizzling with personality within the instrumental choices and distinctive style.

After a year of lockdowns and restrictions, Brock is making it clear in 'Better Tonight' that she's ready to return to the dance floor and makes listeners feel like they're right there with her. Pulled in by the groove and elegant vocals, you'll feel the chemistry of locking eyes with another and instantly feeling a connection no matter the place. Both the playful lyricism and reminiscent sound make this a song to remember, keeping you chilled and mellow with an air of romance. Give the new single a listen here to be transported back to another era, and support an independent artist soon to be a well-known name in the industry.
