Extending my BG3 Shadowheart Destiny AU thoughts from my tags on this post because I'm not done being annoying:

Shadowheart is a Guardian and Nocturne is her Ghost

Something is not quite right with how Shadowheart was brought back to life, and she loses her memories every time she dies

Nocturne has to offer her the Cliff's Notes of her life, her identity, and the circumstances of her death every time she rezzes her

Shadowheart falls in with a bad crowd — Shadows of Yor, possibly (even though those are actually a honeypot)

One of those Shadows of Yor that were actually lured in by Dredgen Yor's ideas — consuming the Light of others, an idea of "peace" that is oddly close to the idea of Final Shape

She eventually can find the glaring flaws (and horrid consequences) on these ideas

But every time she tries to get out, one of her fellow fanatics straight up mercs her

Nocturne is no saint either: she was Guardianless for a long time and fell into the subculture of Ghosts that study the Darkness and Hive esoterica

That's why she's initially amenable to Shadowheart joining the Shadows of Yor

What lore books would you say are the prerequisites for getting into all things Hive?

I'm not going to include links because tumblr is a jerk about putting posts with links in the tags sometimes, but I will drop them in a reblog.

Books of Sorrow: THE starting point, and arguably one of the two best works of writing in Destiny. The early life of the krill/hive, their pact with the worms, their conquest across the stars and the philosophy of the sword logic are all covered here, as well as the family dynamics of Oryx, Savathun and Xivu Arath, as well as Oryx and his kids. Several aspects of it have changed radically in light of the revelations of The Witch Queen, so even if you've already read it it's probably worth another look.

Truth To Power: Savathun attempts to win the Guardian's trust and friendship by posing as Eris Morn; things spiral from there. Like Savathun, this book is steeped in intentional misdirection, symbolism and allegory, but if you're willing to read between the lines you'll come away with a fair amount of information on her philosophies, plans, and arguably her feelings.

In the WQ Collector's Edition ARG lore book, Ikora Rey and Arach Jalaal discuss the manuscript (which exists as letters from Sav to the Guardian in-universe), its meaning and purpose, and come away with a theory that it's meant to teach the reader to think like Savathun, effectively becoming her - a sort of opposite sword-logic scenario where instead of taking someone's mantle by killing them, instructions on claiming that mantle are given away freely.

Inquisition of the Damned: The story of the chaos and desperation among Crota's broods in the wake of his death, and one set of siblings' heretical response to it. Includes some EXTREMELY juicy bits of information on hive lore, including the origin of the death song, and what's going on with Zulmek, Instrument of Torment.

The cryptoglyph web lore pieces - Hearts, Endure, Dust, Hope and Poison - continue the exploration of the Hidden Swarm's reaction to Oryx's death, and their hope that he has passed his proverbial torch on to someone else and will hence live forever. There's also a tiny bit of information on Xivu's brood in here.

Speaking of Xivu, there's not a lot written about her but some of our best descriptions of what she's up to come from Immolant Pt. 1 & 2, Call of the Cryptolith, as well as armor and item lore cards from Season of the Hunt and Season of the Lost. Perhaps fittingly for a god of war, we know little about her thoughts but a fair deal about her actions.

The Book of Unmaking: The Shadows of Yor uncovering the truth of their eponymous Dredgen. Includes verses from another of the Books of Sorrow.

The Resonant Fury titan armor set, and warlock armor set, respectively, contain information on the Worm Gods and Rhulk's relationship with Savathun, which provide some additional context.

The fascinating thing about the Hive is that they're connected to so many characters that you can run into a decent amount of lore on them depending on who you're exploring: Looking into Mara Sov, Eris Morn, Toland The Shattered, the First Crota Fireteam, Osiris, Shin Malphur, Dredgen Yor, Riven, Ghalran and probably about a dozen characters I'm forgetting right now will turn up different perspectives on the hive and stories about them.

Bungie, thank you for not killing the gays. Honestly. As a gay man, I watch so many characters die, and be separated from their lovers, but you literally said, "No, these two will rip apart time and space, defy life and death, go through Light and Dark, just to stay together." And you FUCKING MEANT IT!!!!!! You have positive gay representation, and it means the ENTIRE WORLD to me, you have no idea. I sobbed seeing it today. Literally sat in front of my cat, and sobbed, and he wondered the the hell was wrong with me, but I looked at him and smiled. And he knew it was ok. And I was ok. Because Saint-14 and Osiris are ok. Thank you for giving us our lovers. We love you, Bungie. <3

JACKAL ;;

name ; jackal species ; awoken, second-gen distributary-born pronouns ; he/him, it/its gender ; ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ sexuality ; sure class/subclass ; banshee hunter/warlock ghost: wolf (it/its)

phys. description ; 5’8” in height. jackal is almost always clad in armor and a helmet. he wears cloaks and leather typical of hunters in shades of hot pink, white, and black – atypical of hunters, mostly hot pink and white, with black being an accent. beneath his armor, he has lavender skin, long, pointed ears, and face that borders just enough on cat-like to be uncanny, with white markings similar to tiger’s stipes. his hair, pastel pink, is long and shaved on one side. his mouth is full of shark-like teeth, and no matter what, he never stops smiling – part of the reason he always wears his helmet. jackal’s build is sinewy and light. his sceleras are black, and his irises are white.

light abilities ; jackal was rezzed during the dark ages, back before there were rigid, defined lines between the classes. his abilities, therefore, are a mix between more warlock-like and hunter-like, combining the mobility of a hunter with the easy and powerful light manipulation of a warlock. on top of this, his void light can be used to amplify and manipulate sound waves. he can use his voice as a weapon, or use it to mimic the speech of others, because of this.

personality ; jackal feels uncanny to be around and speak to, and it is well aware of this. while he feels all of the emotions everyone else does, he can’t quite express himself in ways others understand. he tries to have a very optimistic view of life, in sharp contrast to the way it used to see things, and attempts to find the good in any situation. he can, conversely, have a very dark or “edgy” sense of humor, and often laughs at inappropriate times.

brief history ; jackal was rezzed during the dark ages, and was brought up under the wing of one of the great warlords. it saw the worst of both lightbearers and humanity during this time, and though he tried to keep his own humanity, it was hard for him to hold on to hope with the things he saw and the things it was forced to carry out. it was little wonder that, as the warlord factions crumbled and as humanity entered the early city age, he fell into the thrall of a newly-christened dredgen yor – but even this did not last long for him, as the group of dredgens it was part of crumbled under the weight of their own hubris and the bullets from the lightbearers that hunted them down. jackal was barely able to escape with its life. knowing himself, and knowing he could not survive without amnesty, it turned itself in to ikora rey, and seeing potential in him, she tasked it with a mission.

jackal is one of ikora’s hidden, and has such has not had much interaction with main game plotlines, but he did work with the guardians who were part of the witch queen plotline as part of the hidden investigative team. while he does not often use it, it does still carry its copy of thorn.

this is an independent and private multi-muse for an array of characters from mixed media sources.  i do not claim ownership over any characters found on this blog— excluding the originals.  this blog is purely for entertainment purposes and should be treated as such.

basic roleplay etiquette/human decency is expected when interacting with me.  no reply-pestering, no force-shipping, no stealing, etcetera.  i have a zero-tolerance policy for bullshit and curate my space accordingly.  i also use my block button liberally. 

activity level is classified as low.  this blog isn’t my only blog, nor is tumblr my first priority.  i’m a full-time university student and my activity will reflect that.

while most of my characters are canon compliant, some are not.  those divergences, due to my own laziness, have not been entirely documented— if you have any questions, please ask me.  it’s always better to ask, rather than to assume things.  i do get offended by such things.  i also ask you to not immediately assume our characters are in a relationship, even if it’s a canonical relationship in the media.  unless plotted otherwise, all interactions will be treated as platonic.

General Rules

My rules might seem harsh and unwelcoming but now that I spent some time in the community again, I had to write down my thoughts and boundaries once more. It's more a form of me putting myself out there in a way that no one will be surprised or upset, including me. Otherwise, I'm a very friendly and open to various plots person - just a DM away.

1. My mental health and comfort come first. There might be days I will be hyper active and answer to everything, focused on one thread, write one reply and call it a day, or not write Anything at all.

2. I always try to keep everyone up to date on the situation if I plan or did vanish for a couple of days - it's mostly to take a break and have some time to recharge, nothing to worry about.

3. I don't roleplay NSFW and would appreciate if there was no such content sent my way in any shape. I'm an adult but it's not something I feel comfortable with. I don't mind you writing it on your own blog though, you do you.

4. Your drama is not my drama and vice versa. I won't stop Interacting with someone just because you had a disagreement. I tag people's handles in every reply, simply blacklist the ones you don't want to see.

5. I suck at maintaining relationships even if we are having a good connection. It's not because I don't like you, it's because I'm rarely able to keep track of who I should write to this time and check-in.

6. That said, I appreciate every effort to reach out to me and will do my best to answer to it in a timely manner. It's possible I will see it, get distracted and forget - apologies in advance.

7. I do not like to feel like I'm being forced to rp with someone and put them over others. It will make me want to interact with you less. Don't push, don't nag, don't get offended I replied to someone else first. I want the rp to be my safe space and to have fun, not to feel like it's a chore.

Writing Rules

8. I'm highly selective based on my mood and the ocs that want to cooperate at a given time. Again, I'm doing my best to tend to every thread, but it's not always easy. I can be distant, super affectionate, excited, or sad in a matter of minutes, which will affect who and what I write.

9. Blood, gore, body horror, murder, self-harm and other dark topics are frequent in my writing. I tag everything accordingly by tw: example. What you won't find here is r.a.p.e, n.a.z.i.s.m, r.a.c.i.s.m, t.r.a.n.s.p.h.o.b.i.a, h.o.m.o.p.h.o.b.i.a, i.n.c.e.s.t, p.e.d.o.p.h.i.l.i.a, nor any other of such things. My blog is a safe space. ! If you want something else tagged, DM me ! Anonymous asks will be ignored, especially written in capslock 🙃!

10. I prefer long threads over short ones, especially for character development/relationship development. Short ones are good to fool around with, though.

11. I will try to match the length of the replies but I don’t mind shorter answers. Just try to not answer with a one-liner to my long-ass post. I mostly try to write 2/3+ paragraphs, unless it's one paragraph/one-line thread.

12. If you are not skilled in English but it is enough for me to understand you, no worries - everyone had to start somewhere.

13. I prefer 3rd person past tense to role-play but 3rd person present tense is also fine. No 1st person writing, please.

[ CLARITY ] for one muse to help ground the other back in the present  (i.e. after nightmare, breakdown, battle etc) | Sika n Shrike? [he gets night terrors :relieved:]

Shrike was hard to wake out of any sleep; he had an internal schedule it seemed- a little fucked up sometimes and never the exact same but he could wake up atleast within the two hours of it. Sika was the exception, because Sika was the one he spent most of his time cuddling with and also one of the people he cared the most about. Love- that was something Dredgen Shrike did not like saying often due to past experiences, but he would describe his feelings towards Sika as such.

So when Sika woke him up with the noises- and the not-so-subtle movement- it wasn't hard for him to actually start moving to figure out whats wrong.

Saying his name didn't seem to quite wake him so he figured the other was still asleep. A nightmare or a Night Terror then? He wasn't sure. He knew he shouldn't wake Sika up from either because... he couldn't remember why, just that he shouldn't. So he did the next best thing, and pressed himself closer. He gently stopped any movements that could hurt up, nuzzling into the back of Sikas neck to mutter anything that came to his still tired mind, in a softer voice. When the other came too and jolted, Shrike pressed his hand to Sika's stomach and pulled him back again.

"I'm here." He muttered, trying his best. Shrike wasn't sure how good his best was- but he hoped it was enough either way. "Lady's here too, you're... okay." He wasn't sure if Safe would be the right word because even Nightmares weren't always situations you needed to be safe from- but he was here and so was the big and protective wolfdog, and hopefully that would bring some solace to the other Exo.

Also, incidentally today I learned the meaning of the symbol on the Thorn and Bad Juju. It’s really quite a lot when you think about who these guns are connected to in the lore.
