do you have any literature about coping with dissociation/living with parts, or really any resource on beginning recovery? i am seeing a professional soon to discuss my concerns but im super nervous and want to make sure it’s worth mytime to bring up hhh :(

it's absolutely worth your time to bring up in any case, let me say that. also, if this therapist sucks, that happens. there are a lot of therapists that don't know how to properly treat DID. resources like the psychology today therapist search can help, but it takes a lot of emailing and talking and vibe checking, and while it's probably a bit different in my case because i've been diagnosed for a while, but whenever i've moved i've just been direct with the person i wanted to be my therapist, right off the bat. I have DID. and if they don't react well, i know they most likely won't do well treating me, either. now i have an amazing therapist who is helping me make huge gains.

now, onto literature. i have read quite a few self help books as well as used a lot of resoures that have been given to me, and i'll list you a few that i can remember right now. if i remember to and remember more, i can try to reblog with some more resources.

Got Parts? - really really good book. i think everyone with DID should read it, and you can find it really easily with just a google search. Warning, the way they deal with persecutors, though... Not great. Don't lock them up and throw away the key like that, or, at least try. That part of you will always be hurting until they're allowed to heal. Also, here's a link.

The Body Keeps the Score - Same here. It brings a lot of insight into trauma and is honestly really validating. it'll teach you a lot about the depth that that trauma goes and help you gain a better unerstanding of your system. Here's the link.

The DBT Skills Workbook! Lucky for you I've got a link right here, but man oh MAN is it useful for dealing with a lot of symptoms that come with DID, and my therapist has actually gotten me recently to pick it back up to work on relational building between alters as well, which i think is something i should have thought of earlier. applying it in that way is really, really helpful. as a system who also has bpd, this resource has been invaluable to me.

The CTAD Clinic is a Youtube channel that focuses on dissociative disorders, run by a psychologist with a lot of experience in said disorders. Also a really, really good resource.
