is this the omegaverse of my dreams, the danmei omegaverse i've always wanted to read?

duan jiayan is such a dense dumbass lmao ok it's understandable considering he's always thought he was a beta but i lowkey just felt so much pity for the ml for chasing him akjdlds ok ok but i like how thoughtful he actually is. like abt his family situation and his mother's remarriage, and how he's prob lonely inside but in the end realizes that some things just can't be measured in give and take and just does his best with what he has. and how once he got confessed to by lu xingci, he really started to consider the things lu xingci has done for him and how if he accepts now, it could be misconstrued as him accepting lu xingci's feelings and he doesn't want to lead him on. anw he's a great guy.

lu xingci is also such a good alpha good god he's gentle, respectful, sweet, but also with that repressed feral possessiveness that every reader craves for when seeking omegaverse stories to read. he is such a henpecked husband tho. he might be the alpha but duan jiayan is the one holding the reins in their relationship. i also like how he banters with duan jiayan and makes him speechless nghhhh truly the one with the brains.

yo i am so glad shen chilie isn't a second male lead childhood friend who's destined to lose. for once! he's just a normal friend! with normal concerns! and once he sees that lu xingci is good alpha material, he immediately warms up to him and his friends! u go dude!

there's no real plot it's just a fluffy highschool romcom in an omegaverse setting. i smiled a lot reading it. it's so cute! it's really cute! 

at this rate i need an actual subsection for ost, but anw the audio drama ost is also rly good! they even made one of the songs that was playing in-universe into an ost!

speaking of said ost, the moment in the wn where lxc realized his feelings for djy while the song was playing is such an iconic moment for me, whenever the ost plays i just picture that scene in my mind when djy turns around and asks if he’s good looking and lxc is like en you’re the best looking while inwardly he’s finally admitted that he likes djy ahhhhhh

What I Disliked

reading abt duan jiayan sometimes is so... he's so naive and defenseless, like when he decided not to take an inhibitor during his heat on his bday and let lu xingci do whatever bc duan jiayan loves him a lot even though shen chilie painstakingly tells him it’s dangerous n that he needs to draw some lines. it's good he met someone good like lu xingci, or else he can easily be one of those bad end shou type of char if he gave his all to a scum gong…

duan jiayan’s family background could have been explored a little more, or the author could’ve leaned more towards how he could find a home with lu xingci i feel

Animorphs! And possibly not because I’ve lost the patience to reread things and don’t read as much now anyway, but I think the writing and themes will still hold up? It is a children’s series but it is also a sci fi children’s series about war crimes and child soldiers

What do you think Cai Yan's motivations are? I can't figure it out. He doesn't seem to really want to be the crown prince and seems to be a nervous wreck whenever LJ's not there. Did he just get roped into LJ's plan?

We could go into Feng Duo / Cai family killed by conspiracy planted by the Chen imperial court via Fei Hongde / revenge, but honestly I don't think Cai Yan thought that far when he made the decision, or that he was attached to his family that was killed by conspiracy instead of his brother who was killed defending Shangjing.

Cai Yan's motivation in the beginning was just simple greed. (and the 2nd motivation is survival instinct.)

Remember Bian Lingbai from book 2? Cai Yan's greed was hinted at when Bian Lingbai was looking at the silk treasure map. Duan Ling was reminded that he's seen that look in Bian Linagbai's eyes before --- it's the same look in Cai Yan's eyes when he saw the jade arc.

Cai Yan is a combination of book-smart and common-sense-stupid, which makes him believe he's due more than he was given, and it also makes him easy to manipulate. While he MAY just be due more if he just went to Zhongjing and became Zongzhen's study partner, he's always envied what Duan Ling had --- a father to love him, heir to the Chen throne.

Then Langjun offered it to him (probably) in a "I want your help" way. Not in a way that makes it seem like Cai Yan wanted it, but, "Great Chen needs a crown prince or there may be more civil war" while they're in a battlefield surrounded by charred bodies. If it's out of a sense of "doing the right thing" to prevent more war, Cai Yan may have said yes anyway, but honestly, even though Langjun wouldn't have come out and said it, if Cai Yan said no Langjun would have simply killed him.

Because Cai Yan would be one person who knew that Duan Ling was the crown prince, and if he's free to go off to Zhongjing to work for the emperor of Liao, he'd take the secret that "whomever ends up on the crown prince position in southern chen would be an imposter" to the Liao imperial court.

So if Cai Yan had half a brain, he'd have known that saying no to Langjun was a death sentence.

Gagosian is pleased to participate, for the first time, in the Felix Art Fair at the Hollywood Roosevelt, with a presentation of contemporary paintings, sculptures, photographs, and works on paper. The tension between the real-world grit portrayed in the featured works and the stylish period decor of the Hollywood Roosevelt hotel—whose interior was designed to evoke dreams of the city’s golden era—mirrors the chasm between everyday reality and romantic imagination. In their pursuit of truthfulness, the featured artists provide an illuminating contrast between real life and Los Angeles’s more elusive fantasies of glamour and fame. In the hyperrealistic sculpture High School Student (1990–92), Duane Hanson reproduces his subject with uncanny verisimilitude, registering every detail of a scruffy teenage boy—an incongruous guest in a luxury hotel. With similar objective precision, Ed Ruscha’s work on paper Metro Mattress #6 (2015) depicts a worn-down mattress in a state of neglect, as if discarded on the street. Ruscha isolates the motif in the center of the page, rendering it both prosaic and strange. In Study for Bedroom Painting #74 (1983), Tom Wesselmann combines a schematic female nude with colorful interior elements in a manner both abstract and Pop. And in the photograph Black Square XXIII, Phoenix canariensis, Woolsey Fire (2019), Taryn Simon pictures a charred palm tree against a night sky. Brought to California from the Canary Islands, the tree fueled and survived a devastating wildfire. FICTIONAL CHARACTERS I WISH WERE TRUE SO THAT I COULD DATE THEM or stare at them from afar

HIWow! It was hard choosing a first topic to talk about. I felt like I needed to talk about something big and glamorous to blow the brains out of… of someone. But alas, this is my best, for now..

So, I chose the first one that I had listed on the top of my head ever since I first started reading.

BOOK BOYFRIENDS!

This is a list of MEN or BOYS who tickle the romantic bone just right! (I had dreamed that there was such an organ in the human body, just near the stomach)

I selected these FICTIONAL BOYFRIENDS as potential members of my harem If I ever defy normal Filipino conceptions of marriage and take up polyandry.

The criteria I used is simple.

  Choose the fictional partners that I can imagine existing in real life  (not too much of an alpha and rich or good looking that borders on unbelievable). The type of characters that I can imagine talking to, who I find fascinating and can be a potential long-time partner, casual hook up or best friend.

 I originally wanted to stick to 10. But as I wrote, a lot of names popped up and I can’t not put them in the list but still, I am sure after I have this article published (Char! Haha) there will be a lot of “Shoot! Why did I not put him on the list???” exclamations. So, maybe I will eventually make another continuation list???

This list is based on the BOOKS I READ so if  you have a bet that I didn’t list, please don’t hesitate to give a recom. A new book to swoon over is always welcome.

 Most Importantly: READ THE BOOKS WHERE THESE AMAZING CHARACTERS CAME FROM. I liked them because of their wit, their personality, how they interacted with other people, their dreams and how their love for their other half made them better people or vice versa. MEANING: THE BOOK WAS WICKED AWESOME AND THE AUTHOR WAS A GOOD STORYTELLER.

(I must apologize for the lack of female to female romantic partner mentions given my current lack of FF Romance reads, which is something I will rectify soon. But if you have recommendations, feel free to comment below and maybe add some MM ones too!)

1. Clayton Danvers and Lucas Cortez

Kelley Armstrong’s  Women of the Underworld Series

Genre: Horror fiction, Paranormal romance, Urban fantasy 

This series is adapted on screen called ‘Bitten’ which is available on Netflix.

Clayton Danvers is the strong, silent, and smart type. He is a professor in a university where he met Elena(his student) and a werewolf! His devotion to Elena was sweet, passionate and faithful to the point that bordered on obsessive but not off putting. The best thing about him was how un-Alpha he was. Although he was strong , his relationship with Elena was a partnership.

This is what romance needs today guys! A PARTNER not a rich and condescending daddy!

Lucas Cortez, on the other hand, is a lawyer/sorcerer, young master of a Cabal Group, who informally separates from his family's company to pursue a life as a lawyer protecting the rights of other magical beings against abusive Cabals(including his family's). Unlike Clayton, he was slender with brown eyes behind glasses. So basically, a cute, smart nerd who is the 'good' black sheep of the family.

2. Quinn Sullivan

Penny Reid’s Neanderthal Meets Human

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Quin…*sighs*... So awesome! He was quiet, mysterious,unsmiling, rich and had an almost perfect handsome face. I love that the author imagined small flaws like almost unnoticeable  crooked bottom front teeth and differing sizes of his ears with one prominent feature -his hawk-like stare. BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY, he took Janie's quirkiness in stride. Asking questions, debating, protecting, annoying, kissing…. You know the drill..😉

3. Beau Winston

Penny Reid’s Beard in Mind

Genre: Contemporary Romance

On first read, Beau was a good looking, charming good boy who is looking for his path after his twin, Duane left to pursue his own.

What I loved about him was how he dealt with Shelley's(Quinn's Sister) clinically diagnosed mental illness(OCD). He researched about it and made efforts to make it easier for her and was just overall supportive. 

It was awesome how much the author has put an effort in researching OCD facts to make details perfectly accurate and how it was NOT at all a hastily placed plot device to get the story going. 

4.Ted Beaudine

Susan Elizabeth Phillips’ Call Me Irresistible

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Hello to my favorite romance book of all time!

 I think I have read this many times already and have to put off re-reading it again for next year(2021)  to give my brain some time to forget some of the plot. We need to keep the mystery going! amiright??

Anyway, Ted was the perfect genius, good boy and people pleasing guy. He is perfectly polite, straight laced  and has basically carried the whole town in his muscled shoulders for years. (Did I tell you he was the Mayor?) 

Meg's carefree life and struggles basically tickled his good boy bone the wrong way.

Read this novel to witness how a perfect boy and wastrel girl turned out in the end. Seriously Please Read!

5.  Patrick Jason 'Pick' Ryan

Linda Kage' Be My Hero

Genre: Contemporary Romance

  He was the tattoed, orphan softie on the wrong side of town who thankfully did not grow up a thug because of a vision he got when he was young from a moled witch.

One day, his tinkerbell, the star of his visions, enters the bar he works at, but PREGNANT!

Gosh! I loved this so much. This was part of the Forbidden Men Series but can read as a stand alone. Although, I advise you to read the other books also, they were all awesome!

6. Colin Bridgerton

 Julia Quin’s Bridgerton Series

Genre: Historical Fiction/ Romance

Charming, green eyed and younger son, Colin was considered a catch of the ton.

He had a case of wanderlust and couldn't stay at one place without getting an itch. I can't say more without giving a major spoiler, but I loved that the author made him major insecurities.

Because secretly,too perfect is boring, right??

7. Sean Cassidy

Penny Reid and L.H Cosway's  The Player and the Pixie

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Wewowewowewo. *sexy flames* 

Imagine a gorgeous jerk of a jock with sexual inexperience and a rainbow haired goody goody shoes girl (whose brother is his ultimate enemy) who is willing to be the TEACHER!

But it was more than that, I liked how the authors highlighted the perils of kleptomania, the privilege of the rich and how gorgeous jerks are set straight by their women who would not suffer in a relationship with a class A insensitive jerk just because he was good looking and rich.

This was a ride! I lost count how many times I re-read this book.

8. Elend Venture

Branson Sanderson’s Mistborn Trilogy

Genre: High Fantasy

Elend was the angsty boy part of the elite class who is disgusted by his privilege and looks for ways to make the government better by reading outlawed books that spark rebellious and forward ideas. In short, he was a closet revolutionary.

Throughout the series there were some major changes in his life from a closet reader to a person who pursues ideas he just once read in books?

How do they say it? Walk the talk or in his case, Walk the read? (talking about it would mean death)

9.Archer Devereux

April White’s The Immortal Descendants Series

Genre: Time Travel Romance/ Historical Fantasy

Dumdumdumdum. Imagine a conservative college boy from the past your future self time traveled in, spends time with you, helps you in your quest, likes you secretly and is shy about it and becomes a vampire stuck in immortality waiting to meet the 'present' you.

Talk about love lasting through time! This was a great book if you love time travel stories with historically accurate and interesting facts injected heavily into the story! 

10. Rupert Carsington

Loretta Chase’ Mr. Impossible

Genre: Historical Fiction/Romance

A hellion younger son of an earl who loves an adventurous carefree life who is without inhibition, just goes along the ride and has a set of surprisingly caring and dependable muscled shoulders.

Meets a beautiful tempered scholar who needs his help finding his kidnapped brother in the sands of Egypt.

This is perfect for those who love adventure romances, and topics on the papyrus, mummies and the french and British looting conflict in the African colonies.

11. Sebastian Ballister

Loretta Chase’ Lord of Scoundrels

Genre: Historical Fiction/Romance

My favorite Historical Romance book ever!! Like Ted Beaudine's book, I try to read this at least once or twice a year to forget some of the plot and keep the mystery going.

He was called the Marquess of Dain and has been raising hell since childhood and in the present day France where he meets the blue stocking Jessica. The author throughout the book continually refers to them as the Beauty and the Beast.

What makes this book SPECIAL is how intelligent, witty and funny most of their conversations were. It's funny how many books are under many sexy, funny and witty lists on goodreads but only some of those on the list are actually true! THIS BOOK IS ONE OF THEM!

Jess was not annoying or shy or too much of a fighter and Dain was not too obnoxious. It was perfect.

And if you have not read this book or others from this author or genre, I command you to start reading after you finish this article.Break some cherries!

This book I have also reread many times because it talks about dealing with domestic abuse and moving on after an abusive relationship, dealing with people who have narcissistic disorder and the life of the privileged.

I loved that he was once again, A partner in the relationship and not an overprotective ape despite him being awfully more powerful than Nevada.

This is written by an author whose ALL BOOKS WRITTEN i have read and loved.

 Phil is part of a long line of male Mayors in the family and meets almost fugitive-like Sophie. 

Read as they deal with each other, try to take down a production of town porn video, deal with an enemy, try to dirty Phil down to win the next election and spend time reading a romance classic.

Origin – Local sea fishing culture – All rivers flow into the sea, though without the same source. The sea fishing culture in Zhanjiang carries the original aspiration and memories of the local people. The designers analyzed, summarized and extracted unique symbols of the sea fishing culture, and incorporated them into every detail of the sales center. At the entrance foyer, a “picture” on the wall comes into view. By use of different materials such as metal and acrylic, it depicts the daily scenes of local fishermen. Complemented by sunlight and lighting, it takes visitors to embrace the sparkling sea and sunrise. The long black bench characterized by charred wood texture embodies the simple living attitude of subtropical people — obtaining materials from local sources. Above it hangs a decorative painting that draws inspiration from fish fossil, and the bookshelf nearby incorporates boat elements, all of which responds to the local cultural context.

Inheritance – Combination of the dense and sparse – Taking cues from grass mat weaving — a traditional local craft, the pendent art installation above the property model display area inherits profound historical culture via a simplistic and artistic form. With flexible wires interweaving with each other, it seeks to create a tranquil ambience in a free manner. Echoing with the empty ceiling, it appears more aesthetic and dynamic. Spatial aesthetic is not merely about innovation and making breakthrough, but also about inheriting and conveying culture. The book bar is magnificent, which fully draws on the purity and simplicity of nature. The natural wooden texture unifies the visual effects, and seems to immerse people into a forest. Sunlight shines onto books and play with shadows, which produces a serene and peaceful atmosphere. Besides, the shells, clay sculpture and woodblock print add vigor to the tranquil space, and strike a balance. Nature – Poetry of plants and flowers – In the current era, spatial aesthetics is expected to bring daily life back to nature and nurture the soul with simplicity. Design is a magic that creates a sense of rituality for life and also carries the pursuit of poetry and dreamland. Green plants are utilized to create landscape in the model display area, which perfectly blends the art of nature with the aesthetics of living spaces. In addition, the negotiation area also brings in real flowers and plants, allowing people to capture nature at every step. Imagination – Kids’ Play Area – Azure blue and wood color collide in this area, which releases infinite imagination. As encountering with calming wood, the dynamic blue breaks the elegant, simplistic ambience, and creates visual contrast. The half-height partition wall marks off an area that records the happy time kids spend there. Furniture is carefully selected for the space. An irrelevant thing that I admire about your comic is how, despite introducing a wide variety of extra characters with their own, unique, and touching arcs, Duane and Sette still feel like the main characters. I'm invested in them, they have plenty of screen time, etc. That is my biggest complaint in One Punch Man, actually: we get to meet main chars Saitama and Genos, and they're both awesome and their interactions are awesome, and... we barely see them any more T__T How do you manage, Ashely??

Ha, I think the key is have all those side characters’ revolve around the main characters’ stories! And when those diverge, the side characters go away. We’ll never see the Ripas again, they’ve left Duane and Settes’ proximity. After this chapter we’ll never see Claggart or the Salt Lizard again.

But I can understand getting a little tired of your mains and wanting to play around with some new characters. It happens.

Inspiration for My Muse Character:  Dr. Xander Crowe from Wormwood. I basically fell in love with the character while listening to it, and while making Idris I took a lot of the broad strokes (grumpy, sarcastic ass, brushing up against the occult and being dragged into it) from him, while making something that would work for Ishgard, which I also fell in love with. Of course, now he’s basically Alucard, so... I made him first damnit!

Dream Job: Mmm well, I’m not gonna lie, a part of me still wants to pursue the whole game dev thing. But right now I’m looking more into cyber security, maybe malware analysis or something in the forensics side of things (red team stuff is cool, but not really my thing. Besides, do you know how fascinating the different types of ransomware are?).

Inspiration for my URL: Idris is associated with roses, Adeya is an arcanist. I think you can do the math from there lol. Since I have so many chars I wanted to get away from just focusing on one.

It’s time for @lardo-week day 3! Didn’t take this prompt literally but close enough, right?

Day 3: Date

A couple of weeks after their terrible ramen and subsequent chirp contest, Larissa was startled from a peaceful evening painting by a scream from next door. She grabbed the crowbar she kept in her studio space and ran next door.

“Shitty!”

“Lards!” Came the reply. “It’s open!”

She tried the knob and it was so she entered the apartment and found Shitty standing on his coffee table staring at the ground.

“I lost it! It could be anywhere!” He finally looked up at her. “Is that a crowbar?”

“What, exactly, are you screaming about, Shits?”

“Centipede! It was the size of my fucking hand!”

“Oh my god,” Larissa rolled her eyes and set down her crowbar. 

She slipped into his kitchen and grabbed a glass, snagging a spare bit of mail from his table. She marched back into the front room and scanned the floor, locating the bug and capturing it swiftly with the glass. She slid the paper beneath it and crossed to the window, opening it one-handed and releasing the centipede onto a tree branch.

“That wasn’t even as big as my hand, Shitty.”

“I was caught off guard?” He tried.

She raised an eyebrow and was about to let him know just how ridiculous he was when a shrill beeping filled the apartment.

“Fuck! I was cooking!”

Shitty vaulted from the coffee table and into the kitchen. Larissa just laughed and followed him.

“There’s no saving this,” he bemoaned, pulling a pan of… something black from the heat.

“Is anything you cook savable?”

“Chirp, chirp,” Shitty said, dumping the charred mess into the bin and silencing the smoke alarm. “Takeout?”

“What?”

“I need something to eat. And you’re covered in paint so you probably haven’t eaten all day.”

She looked down at her painting clothes.

“Am I wrong?”

“No,” Larissa crossed her arms. “Fine, but I’m paying half.”

“Deal.”

When they were happily wrapped up in a dumb show on TV, takeout containers half empty, the door swung open to reveal Jack Zimmermann and Alexei Mashkov, a six pack of beer in his hand.

“Do you two ever fucking knock?” Shitty rolled his eyes, pausing the show.

“Oh,” Jack said, stopping in the doorway. “Didn’t mean to interrupt your date, Shits.”

Mashkov laughed at the frozen tableau.

“It’s not a date,” Shitty shook his head. “Why can’t two bros of different genders hang out without romantic implications?”

“Yeah, we're just bros. Bros who save each other from scary centipedes. Well, I am. Shitty just screamed like he was being murdered.”

“Haha,” Jack said. “That sounds like Shits.”

“Come join us so Lardo can chirp the rest of you, too,” Shitty patted the couch.

Jack and Mashkov exchanged a look then flopped onto the couch and armchair.

“Shitty, why do you have a crowbar?”

“That’s mine,” Lardo nodded towards it.

“She rushed in here with it to save me from the monster.”

“Centipede.”

“Why did you have crowbar at hand?” Mashkov asked.

“Oh yeah, I did mean to ask you that,” Shitty looked over.

Larissa shrugged. “I use it for sculpture, pull things apart.”

“Wicked,” Shitty grinned. “Lardo is cooler than either of you.”

“We’re professional athletes,” Mashkov protested.

Shitty shrugged. “I don’t make the rules, bro. She’s cooler than you.”

“I’m putting that on my business cards,” Lardo laughed. “‘Larissa Duan, artist, cooler than Alexei Mashkov.’ Has a nice ring to it don’t you think?”

“What, I don’t make your card?” Jack asked.

“Literally everyone is cooler than you, Zimmermann. You’re a huge nerd.”

“She’s right,” Mashkov nodded.

After she got back to her apartment that night, she thought back to Jack’s comment about interrupting a date. It was clear Shitty hadn’t thought of it that way, and she certainly hadn’t, but the more she thought about it, she realized she didn’t mind the insinuation.

Shitty was a terrible cook and, apparently, very afraid of bugs. He was the weirdest combination of bro and over-zealous ally. But he was sweet. He hadn’t let the guys make assumptions tonight and he was always offering food, company, and sometimes pot, with no presumptions or expectations. He just seemed to like being around her.

Not to mention the dude was passionate. Sure sometimes his passions were a little misplaced and he had a bad tendency to talk over own-voices, but he had the spirit, as the meme went. Plus, the guy was hot, even with the weirdly large mustache.

She wasn’t opposed but she wasn’t going to pursue it, she decided.
