I had a dream last night that involving a genus of spiders colloquially referred to as “Nasty Spiders” (I think the genus name was tyrannoaranea or something like that). Basically they were spiders that were like 10 times more horrifying appearance wise than normal spiders and were extremely aggressive, often biting people for seemingly no reason. Their bites were rarely deadly, but did have some strange side effects/symptoms, like there was one species whose bite made your fingers swell up and turn different colors for a short amount of time.

The one that I encountered was a species that was normally native to Australia called the “dugdug”. They were as large as dogs and infamous for actively chasing people in order to bite them (often several times) for no reason other than their own apparent amusement. Being bitten by a dugdug infects the person with what I can only describe as a temporary form of lycanthropy, causing them to turn into a werebeast the night after being bitten (or multiple nights in a row if they were bitten multiple times, 1 bite being equivalent to one night shifted). The type of creature you become seems to vary depending on the person, and can even include fictional creatures/monsters as I was soon to learn.

I remember me and my family being chased by a whole hoard (pack?) of dugdugs, even though we don’t live in Australia and it was the middle of winter, when most normal spiders would be either dead or hibernating. I ended up being bitten TEN FUCKING TIMES while my younger brother (who’s 4 years younger than me) was only bitten once. He became a stereotypical werewolf for his one night while ended up as a were-version of (CRINGE INCOMING! THIS IS NOT A DRILL!!) Fake Peppino from Pizza Tower for some fucking reason, which is how I found out the hard way that you could had the possibility of becoming a fictional creature from a dugdug bite.
