my theory is that the dwarf in the flask created the homunculi not to remove his "flaws" but a single flaw: his love for humanity. which of course backfired spectacularly but anyway. here are the forms of love he tried to cast out

lust: obvious

gluttony: consummate love. just wants to take and take and never give. that's why likes eating humans.

wrath: angry love. protective love. it's clear in how protective he is of mrs. bradley. anger that his love won't be reciprocated, or that it will be taken away.

pride: this is clear in how proud he is of mrs. bradley, how proud he is that she's different than others, and how much he craves the same approval from her so plays the dutiful son even when there's no need

envy: envy doesn't love... but he wants to be loved like how others are loved. he can't have it so he ruins it wherever he can, like in ishval, like in liore, out of sheer jealousy.

greed: greed is by FAR the most successful because he's the only one whose desire for love overtakes his loyalty to father. what can i say. greed doesn't share. fuck u dad I'm for humanity and humanity ALONE.

sloth: sloth isn't love, sloth is exhaustion, sloth is defeat from not getting what you want for so long that you give up. sloth just wants to sleep.

the true tragedy of the dwarf in the flask is that he was so, so desperately in love with humanity, and instead of realising that love he cast it out and broke it up into homunculi and ended up trapped again when he could've been free from his cage if he'd just let himself love
