Review without spoilers. Black Adam was incredibly good!! (honestly, so many people expect superhero movies to be this flawless masterpiece that they get mad and throw awful reviews when it isn't).
The movie was fun, with a good plot and great characters. Having so many characters is sometimes hard to balance but I think that they did great letting each character having their moment to shine.
I'm not a huge Dwayne Johnson fan, but I'm happy for him. He expent more than a decade working for this movie to see the light of day, and as an artist, it must be really rewarding to be able to finally see it on the big screen and having such a great response.
Also, as I predicted, I totally loved the Justice Society. Carter was on point, (Aldis Hodge my beloved), Pierce was the perfect Kent Nelson. Quintessa and Noah were very good as this starter superheroes.
The characters in Kandaq were also really compelling (I want Amon and Freedy from Shazam to be BFFs 😂). And I feel in love with the phrase "Not your country. Not your decision."
In overall, it is a great superhero movie and worth the time.
PD: The movie theater completely lost it in the end credit scene. It was so good!!

Teth-Adam / Black Adam: *Doesn’t turn around as he looks down at Kahndaq* “Why have you come alone, young wizard?”
Y/N: *Walks up behind him glowing crystalline fractal hands* “To tell you that... if you ever touch or hurt my uncle or boyfriend again. I will melt your face off Teth-Adam.”
Teth-Adam / Black Adam: *Smirks as he turns to him* “We shall see, young wizard.”

GO SEE BLACK ADAM!
Yall if you followed me for a few years you know how much of a major fan I am of the 90s and 00s justice society comic runs and omg I was fangirling at the interactions between certain characters considering how much I shipped their comic counterparts back then.
Even if your not huge into a comics this is such a good jumping in point/introduction to the DCEU.
AND STAY FOR THE MID CREDIT SCENE!
I saw a number of people leaving and it annoyed me like crazy.
I loved the way the actors portrayed the characters.
Amons actor bodhi was so awesome and adorable!
Aldris/carter, pierce/kent and Noah/al all had me giggling lmao 🤣 I loved all three actors portrayal of their characters.
I'm a huge hawkman fan mainly of the hol incarnation but honestly aldris carter hall(hall being the og golden age original hawkman) was pretty damn good. Loved the way he mentored al and Maxine during the movie.
Pierce's kent Nelson(golden age era doctor fate) oh man I can't say much but yall he was awesome.
Noah's al rothstein WAS SO GOOD! lmao considering Noah's age I was expecting a al who had atleast a few years of hero experience but this al was adorkable so I'll give him a pass. I loved the legend who they got to play his uncle/godfather al pratt another golden age hero who was in a blink and you miss it cameo.
Quintessa/Maxine was just so cool and pretty! Loved the way the movie showed her powers. I wish they had kept the comic characters chatty nature and major fangirl tendency but I'm fine with what we got.
Sarah/Adrianna oh man I can't give away much but I loved her she was perfect!
Mo/karim had me laughing lmao!
Now seeing the rock as the title character oh man dream come true yall 15 years in the making. Yeah he was stiff but honestly it a orgin story of teth awaken in present day so it makes sense Personally I loved his portrayal. Had me crying at some points during his backstory.
9/10 a definite solid 9/10

“Black Adam” looks decent. I like the anti-hero angle they’re going for, especially with some scenes making Adam look more like the threat rather than the hero. But, if I’m being honest, this also just looks like the Rock playing himself again. Only this time, he’s ACTUALLY superhuman. Not to say that the Rock playing himself is a bad thing, it’s just that he’s played the role of “big muscular hero who is cool and can only speak in catchphrases” for most of his movie career.
Side note, Dr. Fate looks great and Pierce Brosnan is great casting for the character.

Just watched the Black Adam movie
This is my review, I tried not to give away too many spoilers but be warned, I don't think I succeeded...
It was simultaneously surprising and what I expected.
It's your typical superhero movie with lots of action but I was pleasantly surprised with the depth of some of the main themes.
The Rock is great in these action roles and knowing he feels so deeply for the character and fought for this so much, gives him so much more credit. I liked the little plot-twist (I knew something smelled fishy when they insinuated the kid was Black Adam) and the notions of good and bad, wrong and right, etc
The civilians surprised me because I actually really liked them. The mother and the son actually had important non-irritating roles and I enjoyed seeing them in the movie.
I always loved Doctor Fate, he is one of my favorite characters from the DC universe (I know, I know, I have many) and he is amazing in this movie! He totally steals the show and Kent Nelson is such a well-built character, they didn't take shortcuts in incorporating most of Dr. Fate's and Kent Nelson characteristics and they were absolutely able to succeed. Pierce Brosnan is perfect in the role (as one would expect) and dominates every scene he is in.
On the other hand, Atom Smasher is simply a comic relief and I don't think it would make any difference if you were to replace Cyclone with a stone (she is literally just filling the space, she didn't do anything remarkable or even note-worthy).
Hawkman on the contrary, really surprised me. In the animated shows and movies I always felt like he was just another character, not really worth mentioning and in the comics I read with him, even though he was quite the main character, I must confess I was mostly just waiting to see when Sandman appeared again.
In the movie, Hawkman was a great character! He was determined and resilient, I liked seeing how he was confronted with his rooted beliefs of good and bad, villains and heroes, when faced with Black Adam.
One of the most important aspects, in my opinion, was the emotional way he reacted at the end when Doctor Fate did the... thing (spoilers) , because even though you have never seen these characters before (in live action, in this setting), as an audience you can really feel how deeply he cares for his friend, and through osmosis (lmao) you start to also share his feelings and feel his pain.
I can't finish this without mentioning the post-credits scene that was also one of my favorite things even though I knew what it was about (like everyone else). It's such a hype moment, a historic type of deal in DC history and it's great to be able witness it.
Welcome back, Mr. Cavill.
Welcome back, Superman. In our hearts, you never really left.

Black Adam - initial thoughts
Watched Black Adam today, and frankly, it is exactly what the reviews made it out to be. This is a pretty ordinary movie, livened up by some cool moments and some decent performances from some of the actors. But the film really elicits no emotional response other than some visceral fun in some action scenes. The film's story is really bleh. I mean, really bottom of the barrel superhero story. It really feels like something out of the 90's and early 2000's. In that way it is a bit like Venom, but Venom at least had Tom Hardy doing something distinctive which added that layer of fun. This film just flounders whenever there is no action happening. There are some really cheesy lines and some annoying side characters, including one kid character.
The actors are mostly fine. Dwayne Johnson is no thespian but he has a tremendous physical presence, which is kind of the big selling point. He does well with what he has but it doesn't really help that the character is fairly static. He doesn't really change emotionally all that much even though he has an arc. The role doesn't really allow for some of the trademark charisma and humor that Johnson is good at. But he does well with what he has. Sara Shahi has a completely thankless and uninteresting role. It is the stock human character that is there to ground the heroes in reality. Honestly, the standouts for me are the JSA characters and it feels that there is a much more fun JSA movie that was never made that happened before this film. Characters like Atom Smasher and Cyclone are given like a sentence or two of characterization, and there is a supposed history there with Dr. Fate and Hawkman that the film feels we should be invested it without having earned it. But their abilities give some of the coolest visual moments of the film. Aldis Hodge is pretty badass as Hawkman and his standoffs with Dwayne Johnson/Black Adam are most of the film's primary conflict. Noah Centineo and Quintessa Swindel imbue a likability to their thinly etched characters. Pierce Brosnan definitely steals the movie. I wanted much more of him because he is clearly having some fun and whatever little emotional sentiment this film earns is due to him. Certainly Dr. Fate has the coolest fight scene in the film. Marwan Kenzari is unfortunately handicapped by a truly forgettable villain.
The VFX are a mixed bag. There are some moments that feel video gamish. But there are some awesome sequences as well. There is an overuse of slow mo, which gets annoying, but the action is generally pretty cool and there are some cool death scenes.
Overall, this was still a pretty disappointing effort by DC for a film that has been in the making for so long and has been a passion project for Dwayne Johnson. Jaume Collet-Serra is not a master director by any means, but this is probably the weakest film of his that I have seen. He has made some reasonably enjoyable films like The Shallows, all of his collaborations with Liam Neeson, and even Jungle Cruise. None of them were great, but they were definitely more competently made and tonally consistent compared to this one. It is telling that the post credit scene, which is cool for who appears in it and not for anything else that happens in the scene itself, draws more cheers than the film itself. Here's to better future Black Adam films. I have a feeling this will do reasonably well until Black Panther 2 hits theaters, given the lack of big movies recently. Overall, a 4/10.

Black Adam is coming out next week, and I will not apologize for the amount of posts I'm going to share regarding Aldis Hodge as Hawkman and Pierce Brosnan as Dr. Fate.
These two are part of my favorite characters from DC, and I'm dying to see them.
