would love to know your thoughts on the whole laudna and imogen scene sparring
oh boy.
assuming you mean the apology and ring scene, just as a uhhhhh, broader recap:
- goddamn, these two care about each other so much.
- (you ever have a relationship in your life- platonic or otherwise- where you get used to someone at your side? where they grow into your life and routine and creep into the corners of your life, and its lovely, because things are easy and safe and good with them?)
- (and then- however briefly, for whatever reason, losing that. like a structural pillar being yanked away. like missing a step going down the stairs. and even after you reorient, feeling the absence like a lost tooth, reaching out and finding empty air.)
- ......so the synchronised hi, and the synchronised sigh of relief, from both of them, at the start of the conversation. the way it set the tone for everything else. even before the actual apologies, they could tell they were on the same page and the way a weight lifted off of both their shoulders. "im sorry-" "no, i'm sorry-"
- and the actual apologies! Imogen, apologizing for her reaction, saying she knows Laudna didn't mean it, saying how terrifying it would have been to have been to have Delilah in her mind. Laudna apologizing. because the fight had started from something, and clearing those things felt important to both of them.
- and the gifts. Imogen panic buying an apology 65gp ring for Laudna remains incredibly funny to me in the sweetest way, in the same way Laudna crying in Ashton is sort of sweetly funny and terrible. They care about each other so much, and it broke in their hands and its like- fuck, oh god, oh shit.
and suddenly there's a totholder. and a ring. #relatable
- two snakes twined together with a ruby in the middle. "it's kind of like us" "- a rock coming between us- but ITS NOT GONNA-" "no more rocks! ...between us, at least. There are more rocks." 🥺
- "it's felt so weird with this thing going on and we can't talk to each other about it-"
- because holy shit it was a long few days for them! and Dusk asked Laudna out!!!!(????) and an outfit change and dreams and- there's so much, and things they wanted to share with each other but they couldn't-
but they're doing it now, dammit!
- and like. look. there's still a lot to unravel for them, there's still layers of thoughts and separate flaws and foibles. And still definitely some less-than-ideal tendencies in how they view each other and lean on each other and- its not perfect. This is not a "The End" titlecard at the end of a movie. (and I am thrilled by that, alright).
- But the real big thing for this convo was about apologizing, and then reassuring the other person- we're in this together. we're in this together. this is everything that happened the last few days because i wanted to work it out with you, specifically. nothing will come between us. there are things to battle but we're gonna fight them together, yeah?
its us two. its us two. im here for you.
- and i just. they really love each other. its so good. im so happy about it.

FAIRYTALES.
BRIAR VALLEY is no stranger to rich history, the most common form of tales being recorded first through memory – then scroll, more recently, by book. the lack of electricity left them with a verbal history preceding written, leaving long gaps that can only be filled by speaking to the eldest in the village. among these folktales, most revolve around high fantasy – telling tales of fae - knights & royalty from briar valley. a common past - time that these tales be shared to the rare young inhabitants of the village. in youth, these stories inspired sebek and his siblings to play using wooden swords & shields, pretending that they were members of the guard. recalling of his grandfather’s time serving the draconia’s only further fueled the fantasy for the zigvolt siblings & inspired sebek to make it his goal, latching onto his strong - willed grandfather at a small age.
TRADITIONS.
the connection between his own family & the draconia family comes from a long lineage of servitude to the royal family. each before him held the title of retainer, his grandfather being the last to retire from this position. the long - lasting line of service had come to a stop when sebek’s mother broke tradition & married a human – who could not be deemed fit to stand as a knight without a hint of magic at his disposal. sebek’s father’s profession was one of the first disappointments that he saw in him; despite still maintaining a careful care of his own teeth as a cause of his father’s upbringing.
in accordance with tradition, there has yet to be a retainer to the draconia family who is not a full - blooded fae just like the rest of the royal family. as much as sebek belittles & berates himself for being born half - human, he still is motivated to be someone reliable to his young master despite his faults. because of his late start to magic, his skills are subpar – but what he lacks in magical control, he is sure to make up for in combat talent & brute strength. his reasoning for not giving up on becoming a knight – in despite the odds being stacked against him, in a town where he is not looked upon as someone capable of being strong – unlike a mage or a warlock, swordsmanship & hand - to - hand combat are the first brought to mind where a knight is concerned. of all the fairytale ‘tropes’ mentioned in the stories he was read as a child – no knight is praised for relying on their magical technique, but instead how well they can protect those they care about.
SIBLINGS.
his relationship with his own siblings was always alright at best, not truly broken until they got to the age where competition between each of them was at large. sebek’s own determination to earn a position as a retainer to the draconia family caused him to become less kind towards his own siblings, treating them more like rivals than his own family. his obsession with becoming better than them is what eventually caused them to see each other in a negative light. because of this, while he may speak fondly on his childhood stories, he would not go so far as to say that he misses them.
