Best Earl of Sandwiches Ranked
As of 1/2/2020, there are currently 33 operating earl of sandwich locations in the US. Here is a list of the Best EoS locations I’ve visited in my opinion:
1) Downtown Disney - The DT Disney location is the #1 location. (I know they were going to close it, but did they?) It provides a good affordable breakfast/late night sandwich option to all park goers and non park goers alike. And even though I was told that all bread was the same at all locations, this one has the best bread. They also used to accept my AAA card for a discount same as the annual pass holders.
2) Planet Hollywood - It’s open ALL THE TIME. Makes for great late night drunky sandwiches. I took my family from Hawaii here and they LOVED it. Also not the most expensive EoS in Vegas.
3) LAX - You can find this location right before TSA in the international terminal. The reason why this is #3 is mainly for convenience. My boyfriend one time almost missed our flight running over to the International Terminal to get us sandwiches, despite the TSA security guard telling him he’d be playing it close. Super romantic. (He made it back for our flight, dont worry.)
4) Disney Springs, Florida - This is high on the list because it’s located towards the entrance of Disney Springs, which also means you’re most likely going to Disney World, and it was located right across from the Hilton Buena Vista Palace where I was staying. There’s ample seating and they carry breakfast before 11 AM like the Disneyland one.
5) DT San Jose - The parking situation down there needs to be better. I’ve had several sandwiches from here since they opened in the last year, however, I’ve only been inside once because I had to wait with the car. The quality of the sandwich though is better than LAX.
6) Boston Common - This is RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE of the park. Like can you imagine? Walking through the park on a beautiful day, and thinking ‘what else could possibly make this stroll better?’ A beautiful sandwich, that’s what.
7) Flamingo - The cheapest EoS in Vegas. Seriously. If you’re staying down that way, there are very few reasons why you shouldnt get one.
8) Newark Airport - Okay so we had about an hour stopover on that same trip we took to Boston and took a United shuttle to the terminal that had an EoS. It was easy and it came with a bag of chips. And we made our flight. If you’re in the Newark airport, this is a great pre-flight snackeroo.
9) Caesars Palace - I am not about to pay $10+ for an EoS unless my feet are about to fall off from walking so much, I’m drunk, I’m starving, and it’s either too hot/cold to go outside. However, this location is here to serve you if you are one of these people. Or if money is not an object.
10) Philadelphia Airport - They are located near the Delta Sky lounge in the terminal I was in and I had been traveling ALL DAY. It was a lackluster looking location, but I was ready for a sandwich. I ordered my usual, Tuna Melt, and it came out quickly. The bread was hot and the filling was generous. However, when I bit into it, the inside of the tuna melt was cold! I have never had that happen before. The deary store front I could forgive, but not a hot sandwich with a cold inside.
Honorable Mention: RIP EoS at the North Terminal of DTW (Detroit airport). You were convenient and made the sadder side of the airport much brighter, even though you did not participate in the rewards program.
Last time I went to Disneyland Paris, they DID NOT have an EoS there. I’ve passed the one in NYC, but was too tempted by all the other good eateries. Also, what sandwich to get? The tuna melt is the best. The chicken chipotle is easiest to travel with (get the dressing/sauce on the side). Their breakfast sandwiches and mac and cheese are also solid too.

And a long watch you would keep
Tumblr media
“Ah, Nurse Stark, good, you’re here. Matron says you have a way with the hopeless cases,” Dr. Clarkson said, gesturing for her to approach the patient’s bed. “Major Morrow is one such and I hope you shan’t mind being assigned to his care.”
“Of course not, sir. But what of my other duties?” Alina replied, keeping her eyes trained on the physician in front of her; he wasn’t an officer, but the convalescent home at Downton Abbey was an odd chimera of civilian and military, the Earl of Grantham known for calling in favors and trading on his own past service when it suited him. It was a far cry from the field station in Samogueux, a place she still dreamt of, waking with the taste of mud in her mouth, her hands scrabbling through the crisp sheets for an elusive length of bandage; everything at the Crawley’s grand estate was pristine, polite in a way she’d assumed had been destroyed with the insidious, strangling creep of mustard gas, the grounds remaining perfectly manicured, the ladies of the house elegant in their day-dresses. Tea served in china cups, little sandwiches filled with cress and egg cut in cunning shapes to tempt genteel appetites.
“Your primary responsibility will be Major Morrow but I think you shall find you have plenty of time left to attend to other patients. The Major is not given to complaints or demands, nor much conversation at all,” Dr. Clarkson said. The remark might have sounded sardonic except for some odd amalgam of compassion and respect, as if the Major’s silence was a matter of willpower.
“Is he in a coma?” Alina asked. The man in the bed was pale, but appeared largely unmarked, though there were shadows beneath his closed eyes and his lips were chapped. He was quite tall, dark-haired, in need of a shave, and terribly, terribly still. He was breathing, she could see that if she looked closely, but otherwise, he might have been carved from marble.
“I don’t believe so. Quite the worst case of shellshock we’ve had here at Downton in some time, though,” Dr. Clarkson said. “He’ll need to be fed, bathed, but beyond that, it’s not clear what will bring him out. If he is still intact within, whether there’s man left or just remnants. If we don’t see any change in the next fortnight, I’m afraid we’ll have to send him to one of the larger institutions.”
“To be treated?” Alina asked.
“To wait to die properly, Nurse,” Dr. Clarkson said, dispensing with any obfuscation, his brusque manner not concealing his utter sadness at the suffering and waste the War had wrought. “So, do what you can, will you? The men say he saved their entire unit, more than once, until he finally fell.”
“Certainly, sir,” she replied. “If I could ask a question—”
“Yes, Nurse Stark?”
“Major Morrow, what is his Christian name? I don’t mean to be impertinent, but sometimes they’ll answer better to that than their rank,” she said.
“Yes, I quite see. Major Morrow is Major Alexander Ernest Kiril Morrow. Believe there’s a Russian noble in the family tree. Poor devil has the look of one, never heard him speak but the men never mentioned any accent,” Dr. Clarkson said, nodding at her by way of leave-taking and walking away. She took a step closer to the narrow white bed and looked down at Major Morrow’s face, knowing somehow that he was not asleep.
“I’ll be right back, Major Morrow,” she said, keeping her voice low and even, audible but not startling. She took in the sweep of his lashes, the beginning of silver at his temples, added, “Alexander.”
Nothing happened at first, for all her vaunted talent with the most difficult cases. Nurse Crawley offered her an encouraging smile and an even more encouraging mug of builder’s tea to see her through the evening hours when the men grew sleepy and then silent, but Major Morrow lay motionless in his bed even as Alina dabbed his face with a cloth soaked in cologne and spoke to him as if he were wide awake and prepared to respond. She thought she saw some flicker of awareness when she took his pulse, another when her fingers grazed his cheek, but his eyes remained closed. Most of the water and broth she tried to spoon between his lips dribbled down his chin in a way no enlisted man or officer would have brooked if they had the wherewithal to manage. Whatever was left of the man he’d been was locked away and it was up to her to find the key, if she could.
“You mustn’t give up,” Miss Crawley said, not the apple-cheeked nursing sister, nor the middle one who read for hours to men most disfigured, but the eldest, Lady Mary with her cut glass voice and her equally sharp cheekbones. She had been the last person Alina would have expected such encouragement from. “That’s what they expect, that we’ll leave them. That no one could ever care for a man who’s seen what he has, horrors beyond recounting.”
“You’re not a nurse,” Alina said. Lady Mary took her meaning, as she thought she would.
“No, I’m not. I’m not made for that, I can only manage it for a select few,” she said. Alina remembered the hours Lady Mary had sat beside the bed of a blond man who turned his face to the wall and the glimpses she’d caught of them when he’d recovered enough to sit in a wheelchair. “Really, just the one. But if I may, I’ve seen how it is with the patient you treat. Clarkson’s no fool, no matter what Grandmama and Cousin Isobel think.”
“I’ve only been given a fortnight,” Alina said. Was it a confidence or a challenge—or a plea?
“Then I expect you shall need to make the most of it,” Lady Mary said. “I’ll speak to Carson, Mrs. Patmore can send you some biscuits and tea for the nights, when the house is quiet. Or brandy, if you’d rather.”
“The tea is all I need,” Alina said.
“Spoken like a true Englishwoman,” Lady Mary said, her face changing into something else entirely with her smile, the resemblance to her younger sister suddenly apparent. “I won’t think any less of you should you reconsider the brandy though.”
“Ah vy, seni, moi seni,/ Seni novye moi,/ Seni novye, klenovye,/ Reshotchatye...” Alina sang, very softly, almost as if she were singing just to herself. Her voice wasn’t very good, she could carry the melody but there was little strength behind it, but she knew her limitations and didn’t mind them very much. She’d started singing the old Russian folk song on a whim, thinking of the Major’s middle name, that Kiril so startling hidden within the traditional British names. Thinking perhaps the song would be something he remembered from his early childhood as it was from hers, a song she’d learned from the great aunt who’d raised her after her parents and grandparents all died of a fever.
“Kak i mne po vam, po senichkam,/ Ne hazhivati…”
His voice was raspy, a voice that had screamed Get down bloody well get down for days and weeks of days and cursed and never wept, the tears all held, counted like stars or bullets, the ghost of a lovely tenor. His dark eyes, finally opened, were ones that had seen what wasn’t there so often he might be forgiven for forgetting the difference, except that he hadn’t. Couldn’t. His dark eyes, finally opened, were full of the tears he hadn’t shed. Looking up at her, she saw the age the War had stroked into his cheeks, across his brow, swiped upon his lips like a caress; he could not have been more than twenty-five years old.
“Why did you stop?” he asked. “You didn’t forget what came next.”
“I was waiting for you,” Alina said. Major Morrow was speaking to her as if they’d been talking for hours, a conversation between people who knew each other well, intimates if not friends; she would match him if that’s what he needed, even though she couldn’t help the thousand questions crowding her own mind.
“You were so sure I would answer?” he asked.
“I thought you might,” she said. “If I were patient enough.”
“I’m the patient, though, am I not?” he said. “This is no field hospital, but something like—”
“You are. My name is Miss Stark, I’m one of the nurses. The doctor asked me to look after you. You’re back in England, a ward in one of the great houses, Downton Abbey,” Alina explained. “You’ve been…asleep since you arrived here.”
“I haven’t been sleeping, I’ve been trapped,” he said, his voice tight, filled with an unutterable anguish.
“Are you in pain?” she asked. He made a sound that must have been a laugh, except it was so bitter, so hopeless, no one could have called it that.
“Not the kind that can be helped,” he said. “My misery is of my own making, I must nurse it like a mother with her suckling babe.”
“I don’t think that’s true. I don’t think you can be held responsible for the War, for the injuries you suffered,” she said, leavening her gentleness with the practical tone most of the men responded to.
“With all due respect Miss Stark, you have no idea what I’ve done. What I’m capable of,” he said, turning his face away. She sensed his imminent retreat, a door about to close, perhaps irrevocably.
“Tell me,” she said.
“You won’t believe me,” he said.
“That shouldn’t make any difference,” she replied.
“I used the power at my disposal to protect my men, I made darkness from fog, I made a deadly weapon of shadows and I struck without mercy, even as the Germans cried out for mercy,” he said. “I made monsters.”
“For your men. For their lives,” she said. That was all she knew, all that had been said of him. He spoke as if he’d used some perverse magic but she’d worked with enough wounded soldiers to know how their mind would trick them, delude them into memories that had the barest tie to reality. “You sacrificed your peace for cause, Major Morrow.”
He turned back towards her, looking into her face and struggled into a half-sitting position. His eyes glittered with a fervent energy, making her worry whether he had a temperature. She laid her hand across his forehead and saw a curious, queer ease take him.
“What are you?” he murmured. His skin was warm but not hot and the frantic light in his eyes settled into something between bemusement and appeal.
“I told you, a nurse. Someone to look after you,” she said. “I think it would be best if you had something to eat and drink. You haven’t taken much since you got here.”
“It’s late,” he said.
“It’s not too late. I have my ways,” Alina said. “I know how these great houses work, I made sure to make friends with the cook, Mrs. Patmore. Let me get you a cup of tea and maybe something to tempt you beyond broth.”
“You don’t—”
“But I do, Major Morrow,” she said.
“Alexander,” he replied.
As it turned out, he had a fair appetite once the tea and treacle tart were within his reach, a nearly beatific look on his face when he took a sip of the very milky, very sweet cup, his lips forming a soundless Oh! as he swallowed. She’d nearly ladled in the sugar; it was what she might have given him if he’d been in shock, which, she supposed, he had been for the past weeks. He closed his eyes with the first bite of the tart, clearly savoring each mouthful; it was a pity the Cook wasn’t there to see his appreciation. When the last crumb had been licked from his lips, he settled back on his pillows.
“Do you think they’ll send me away now that I’ve rejoined the ranks of the living?” he asked. “Or send me back to the front?”
“You’ll stay right here,” Alina said. “You’re nowhere near well enough to fight and you’re not ill enough to go to the institution Dr. Clarkson had mentioned.”
“You say that with a particular conviction,” he remarked.
“Dr. Clarkson wouldn’t have assigned me to your care unless he was willing to listen to my opinion,” Alina said. “And if it came to it, I’d go above his head—”
“To whom?”
“He could hardly gainsay the Earl of Grantham,” Alina replied.
“You’d speak to the Earl?” Alexander asked.
“I’d speak to his daughters, Lady Mary and Lady Sybil,” Alina said. “I have no doubt, between the two of them, they’d make sure you don’t stir from Downton Abbey until you’re properly better.”
“Why would you do that?” he said.
“You’ve fought such a long time,” she said, patting his hand lightly, noticing how slender and well-formed it was, the hand to draw a bow across a violin’s bridge. The hand that had drawn a bayonet across how many Germans? She felt how he trembled, pressed down and took his hand in hers. “You’re not alone anymore, there are people to look after you, to care for you.”
“You mean, because you are a nurse. Because it’s your job or your profession, your vocation,” he said, all the sweetness gone from his beautifully shaped mouth. She squeezed his hand, startling him.
“No,” she replied, seeing his confusion. He was not used to being contradicted or corrected; what Major was? “I am a nurse and it’s what you said, my profession, my vocation. But that’s not why I’m here now. That’s not what I meant when I said I cared. I’d be in a fair way to get dismissed if Matron finds out what I’ve done, no matter what Dr. Clarkson says.”
“You shan’t be dismissed,” he said. “And if you were—”
“If I were?”
“I’d offer you my hand, but you already have it,” he said, glancing down and then looking up into her face.
“I do,” she said and let him make of it what he would. He sighed and smiled and closed his eyes. She didn’t worry about when he would next wake. Morning wasn’t far off.

100 Followers Event Request #3
Ok, so, since I haven't requested anything anywhere in quite a while...how about Chrollo (of course 😂) with 14. "Quick! Catch that cat, it stole my wallet!"? I hope I remembered that well.
I just saw Chrollo and stealing and I love the idea of someone/something stealing from a thief 😂
Thank you and congratulations on 100 followers again and here's to more 🥰🥳
Take your time and take care of yourself! 🤗💕
Requested by: @to-move-on-means-to-grow
Prompt Sentence: (will appear in bold)
14. "Quick! Catch that cat, it stole my wallet!"
Character(s): Chrollo (also including Shalnark and Pakunoda)
And here.. we.. go! Lol, last request of the event. Yeah, only three requests in total. But you know what? It was fun!! I think I will hold another at 250 followers. And I bet I won’t be so nervous next time!
I hope you like it, Bomi! This one was a lot of fun and made me smile and giggle as I wrote it. ^_^ Hope you’re doing well!
~ ~ ~
In a lively city to the east of Yorknew, the late morning sun shined down brightly upon the occupants below. People of all shapes and sizes bustled about, seemingly always in a rush to reach their next destination. So much commotion made the world appear to pass time in a blur. All except for three individuals casually sitting at a table just outside a little café.
However, these individuals were no ordinary people. They were, infact, members of the ever feared and notorious Phantom Troupe. Considered to be A rank bounties for those that dared to seek them out. A fact hard to believe for those that happened to glance their way. For at that moment, they appeared to be just as normal and average as everyone else.
Shalnark was smiling and busily tapped away at his phone, occasionally taking bites out of his chocolate chip bagel with raspberry cream cheese. Having already finished her egg and bacon croissant sandwich, Pakunoda sat with her eyes closed and hands lightly wrapped around her coffee cup. The liquid inside was solid black; unlike Shalnark’s, which had turned a faded tan thanks to all the cream and sugar.
Lastly, Chrollo Lucilfer, head of the spiders, was relaxed back in his chair with legs comfortably crossed one over the other. The latest book to catch his interest in one hand, a cup of earl grey tea in the other.
To any passerby, the three merely looked like a trio of friends enjoying one another’s company for a late breakfast. In all fairness, anyone assuming as such would not have been too far off the mark.
Shalnark popped the last bite of his bagel into his mouth and chewed contentedly. He then glanced down at the table and realized Chrollo had only taken a few bites out of his everything bagel with plain cream cheese, smoked salmon and capers.
“You really should eat the rest of your breakfast, boss,” he remarked kindly, “Never know when we’re going to be able to have another relaxing meal like this. Not with the days we have planned ahead.”
“And you really shouldn’t talk with your mouth full, Shal,” Pakunoda scolded, only opening her eyes part way to look in her compatriot’s direction.
Shalnark smiled awkwardly and swallowed what was left in his mouth.
“Oh, sorry about that,” he laughed lightly.
Having heard the conversation, Chrollo took a deep breath as surfaced from the depths of the novel in hand. He looked down at his unfinished meal with an unreadable expression.
“Mmm,” he hummed, “I suppose I just don’t have much of an appetite this morning.”
A sudden loud “meow” from below the table level caught Chrollo’s attention. He looked down and saw a large, orange tabby cat looking back at him.
“Hello there,” his voice was kind. He smiled down at the feline. It then rubbed it’s body against his leg, looked up at him and meowed again. Chrollo chuckled.
“Are you hungry? Perhaps you have more of an appetite than I do.”
He brushed the capers off his smoked salmon and picked it up off the bagel with his fingers. He then handed it down to the tabby who took it hungrily.
“That was kind of you,” came a familiar voice. Chrollo looked up to see the lady that had been waiting on them.
“Would any of you like anything else? Or any refills?” the waitress offered.
“No, we should be heading out soon, thank you. Could I have the bill, please?”
“Of course.” The waitress ripped their ticket from the pad of paper and placed it face down on the table. “Take your time, no rush.”
As Chrollo pulled out his wallet, the tabby cat, who had finished it’s small meal, meowed at the man who had fed it; it wanted more.
He looked at the feline once more and only offered a small smile, “Sorry my little friend, but I have nothing more for you.”
Now, one may think it’s strange that this man, who was the head of a band of thieves, would actually pay for his and his friends’ meal. Truth was, Chrollo had a soft spot for little mom and pop shops like this cafe. They often struggled to make ends meet while big hot shot corporations had it easy; often stealing customers from businesses like these.
The spider boss left the money for the bill, plus a generous sum for the kind and attractive waitress.
And then, one of the craziest things Chrollo had ever experienced happened to him. The orange tabby that had still been begging for more food jumped up onto Chrollo’s lap, snagged his wallet out of his hands, then took off at a dead run.
Stunned, Chrollo jumped to his feet and spun around, frantically searching for the cat burglar.
“Boss?” Pakunoda questioned, she and Shalnark had not seen what happened. Just then, Chrollo spotted a furry flash of orange off in the distance down the busy street.  “Quick! Catch that cat, it stole my wallet!” he shouted as he took off after the feline.
“W-wait, what?” Shalnark questioned, confused. He looked over at Pakunoda who now stood, looking after their boss in confusion. She exchanged looks with her comrade and the two of them booked it after Chrollo.
“Why would a cat steal a wallet?” Shalnark pondered aloud, “Do you think it’s being controlled by another manipulator?”
“Possibly,” Pakunoda answered, “That or it’s because the boss’s wallet smelled like salmon sincehe touched his wallet with the same hand he touched the fish.”
Shalnark thought this over, and laughed.
~ ~ ~
Thank you all so much once again for participating. I now plan to either return to writing my fanfic story for Hunter x Hunter (Bubblegum Blood) or maybe I will write some lemons for Chrollo and Illumi. Especially since I already wrote one for Hisoka, lol. Take care everyone!

I was wondering have you ever listened to Ben's audiobook Double Science? Ben does for his character Colin Jackson the same accent as the one he has in that funny sketch ( the guy in my icon 😄 and your recent amazing gifs ) i have to admit this my most favourite Ben's voice accent along with Earl of Sandwich but Elder Vex's voice is close enough to my liking too so i can't really choose which one i like the most 😂
No I've not! I don't do so well at the sitting and listening but for ben I will give it a shot! Haha
I love his elder vex voice as well! I think that might be my favourite of his! But yeah his voice for those gifs/your pfp is also just so good. I sometimes forget how many voices he can actually do! It's pretty impressive!!
I think we need a list of everyone's favourite ben voices ranked, just so people can go through and see them all haha
(And thank you for being nice about my gifs ❤️😂)

For Thirsty Thursday, Vivian Arsenault and Edith Crawley. ??
Tumblr media
They were all sick of interviews.
It was the same thing, every time, how brave, how daring, how virtuous and sweet! The reporters came, listened with sympathetic eyes, smiling and nodding in all the right places, let the flashbulbs pop and then turned them into whatever they thought would sell more papers. It was demoralizing. No one wanted to hear what they'd really done - the public needed it cleaned up first.
And Vivian had drawn the short straw this time. A women's magazine, she thought the press office had said. What on earth an English magazine wanted with American nurses, no one knew. It wasn't as if the Brits were short on heroics themselves. (Hadn't one of their princesses joined the army?)
And there was something about this that was just...hitting her wrong. Maybe it was the woman's elegant hairdo, or the pretty shoes, or the swanky hotel tearoom in which they'd agreed to do the interview. How was she supposed to talk about war in a place like this, where everyone else was wearing pearls and trying to forget it had ever happened?
"Miss Crawley?"
The blonde looked up from her notepad, smiling when she recognized the uniform. "Oh, thank you for coming! I've just ordered for us, do sit down." She gestured to the chair opposite and Vivian tucked herself in, unsure how one was supposed to compose oneself in a room like this. She'd been to tea once, maybe, at the department store tearoom in Lowell with a friend and her mother; they'd gotten cucumber sandwiches and one macaroon apiece, and felt like princesses drinking from their cups with their pinkies out.
The reporter leaned forward when she was finally settled, all glad smiles and vivid interest. "Arsenault's a French name, isn't it? Did you grow up there?"
Vivian could already see the article this woman was writing, complete with the tricolor and weeping women in the embattled streets of Paris. "If you're looking for a plucky heroine from an invaded country, Miss Crawley, I'm afraid that's not me. I'm French by way of Quebec." And very American, as you can see from the accent.
The reporter's face fell. "Oh. I see." Her entire line of opening questions derailed, she struggled for a moment to find something else to ask. Vivian sat by politely, counting flowers on the china. "Did your family approve? Of your becoming a nurse?"
There was something about...how she asked that made Vivian angry. Approve? What's to approve? I had a job and a paycheck. "My mother was a spinner in the mills. She was pulled out of school in the fifth grade and could barely read French, let alone English. My parents wanted their children to finish school, first and foremost." She let that stew a moment, and came up with a question of her own. "Does yours?"
The woman's face crumpled a little. "My father is an Earl. Families like mine don't generally have occupations, Miss Arsenault."
Suddenly so many things made sense, the hat and the tea room and the general air of grandeur. You've not met a lot of people whose fathers worked in factories, Miss Edith Crawley, have you? You got my name and made up my story before you'd even met me.
And there was something else, something else that had been bothering her, like a rock in her shoe. "Lieutenant," she corrected. "It's Lieutenant Arsenault."
The Army gave me a rank so I would be obeyed - so that if I was captured I'd be treated like an officer. Ask me about where I've been, before you start making things up.

Beauty and the Beast Cookie Run Friend List
I was playing Cookie Run and was thinking which of the cast of Beauty and the Beast would be friends with what cookies in the Cookie Run world!
I have a list that has the characters of Belle, Adam (Beast), Cogsworth, Lumiere, Mrs. Potts, Chip, Babette, Angelique, Wardrobe, Fife, Gaston, LeFou, and Maurice.
I have the Cookies listed by their rank (common, rare, epic, special, and legendary).
(Note that Wardrobe and Fife will be together since their separate lists were very short and they share a lot of the same cookies. I also did not add Forte to the list as I couldn't really find any cookies that would be friends with him).
Hope you enjoy the list!

RWRB Study Guide: Chapter 1
Hi y’all! I’m going through Casey McQuiston’s Red, White & Royal Blue and defining/explaining references! Feel free to follow along, or block the tag #rwrbStudyGuide if you’re not interested!
Jack Ford (1): Son of president Gerald Ford, who was in college during most of his father’s presidency, but made headlines by bringing former Beatle George Harrison to the White House. The Ford children in general were known for causing problems for security and being in general more rebellious than  other first children. (More)
Luci Johnson (1): Daughter of Lyndon B. Johnson and Lady Bird Johnson, she changed the spelling of her name at age 18 as a form of rebellion against her parents. (More)
Gloria Steinem (2): A self-described radical feminist who began her work in the late 1960s. She is one of the most famous members of the second-wave feminist movement, and in 2015, she said that as she got older, she felt she was free of the “demands of gender”. (More)
Zora Neale Hurston (2)*: Anthropologist and writer from the Harlem Renaissance. She was a prolific writer who pioneered a style of writing in dialect and focused on Black women’s stories, especially in the American South. Their Eyes Were Watching God is her most popular novel. She was also queer, and lived with poet/playwright Georgia Douglas Johnson. (She’s so cool I love her)
Dolores Huerta (2): Labor union leader and civil rights activist who worked with Cesar Chaves to organize the Delano Grape Strike in 1965, which was a major step in earning rights for the (mostly hispanic) farm workers in southern California. She was the first Latina woman admitted to the National Women’s Hall of Fame and is a hero for much of the Latino community. (More)
Caroline Kennedy (2): Daughter of JFK
Nancy Reagan (3): Wife of Ronald Reagan, whose policies were detrimental for queer and poor folks especially.
Hall & Oates (3): An American pop rock duo from the 1970s. You can listen here and here.
WaPo (4): The Washington Post, a East-coast specific policial newspaper that has been traditionally left-leaning, but is now owned by Jeff Bezos. (More)
W Hotel (5): A luxury hotel marketed toward a younger demographic that focus on maintaining a fun and relaxing vibe.
Modern-day Kennedys (6): The Kennedys are a dynasty of American politicians
“Bug” (8): A pun on June’s name, referencing a June bug
Garden State (8): A 2004 movie about an actor/waiter who returns to his hometown of New Jersey after his mother dies. It is based on the director’s experiences and has gained a cult following. It was a favorite at the Sundance Film Festival. (More)
“London Luck, & Love” (8): A Hall & Oates song, a love song about spending time in London and being lucky enough to quickly fall in love with someone. The lyrics are available here
Hill country of Texas (8): An area in central/south Texas that is historically liberal. (More)
Lometa (9): A small town (856 in 2010) in central Texas. (More, Even More)
Fort Hood (9): A large US Military post built in 1942 as a place to test tanks. (More)
Death Comes for the Archbishop (9): A rambling 1927 novel that re-tells the lives of Jean-Baptiste Lamy and Joseph Projectus Machebeuf as Catholic clergy in New Mexico. (More, Even More)
“Trash turtles all the way down” (11): “Turtles all the way down” is a phrase that means that things keep getting consistently worse
GQ (11): Gentleman’s Quarterly, a magazine targeted to men and focused on fashion and culture. (More)
MIT (11): The Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a very advanced school for STEM subjects.
Viscount (12): The 4th rank in the British peerage system, above baron and below earl (More)
Cucumber Sandwich (12)**: In The Importance of Being Earnest, Oscar Wilde makes a gay sex/dick joke involving cucumber sandwiches found down on the docks (a place where queer men could often find sex, either for free or for a fee).
Vampire sex-waifs (13): A reference to the three half-crazed, semi-human women living in Dracula’s castle
Waltz (14)***: A style of ballroom dance that is relatively easy to pick pick up, yet demands at least a bit of rigidity and distance. Henry mentions later that he doesn’t like it.
------
*Hurston is so cool. Scholars have extended what we call the Harlem Renaissance just so she can be in it, and she’s such an incredible writer, and she was so gay and so cool and I love her a lot. She literally perfected the a style of writing in dialogue that works beautifully, and everything I’ve read from her (fiction and nonfiction) has been gorgeous. That’s it; that’s the note.
**I’d just like to shout out my old butch theater prof freshman year who stood in front of this room of dumbass college kids and explained this 200-year-old dick joke. She changed my life (for other, non-dick-joke-related reasons).
***I didn’t want to build this into the packet itself, since it’s more analysis than definition, but the fact that Henry waltzes with June in public when the waltz is a rigid/controlled dance, then later reveals before a private dance with Alex that he doesn’t care for waltzing? And that we don’t even get to know what kind of dance they do, because it’s both too private for even us to know and it’s not one with a name or an easy description; it’s a dance unique to them in that moment? Poetry.
--------
If there’s anything I missed or that you’d like more on, please let me know! And if you’d like to/are able, please consider buying me a ko-fi? I know not everyone can, and that’s fine, but these things take a lot of time/work and I’d really appreciate it!

Storm the Castle: Last Light Pt. 30
Lance was sick of playing around in people’s worst nightmares. Even sicker of the fact that every single one he saw was real, or going to be real. It was hard to have faith in humanity when your mind was drenched in their shitty pasts and futures and he had one more mind to ruin.
“So you deal in terror too?” A voice called out of the shadows. “I thought your shtick was running away?”
Lance watched as a man slipped from the shadows. He was big, loud, overdramatic, and had to be one of his mother’s guys. Probably heard about Lance and was looking for a fight. Looking for a way to move up in ranks by killing the Witch. It was almost flattering they thought so fondly of him. Though Lance wasn’t about to give him a fight. He was tired, sore, and hungry and in no mood for this. So, he turned on his heel and walked in a different direction.
“H-hey! Hey, I was talking to you!” The man called after him. Lance ignored him, too busy wondering if that little deli on the corner still sold sandwiches late. He’d kill for one of their reubens right about now. P.K. was probably still up studying, so he might as well get two.
“Hey! Pyrrha, or whoever you are!” Lance stopped midstep, foot still hanging just about the ground. This asshole again? He turned to face the man and his stupid proud grin.
“Do me a favor and fuck off,” he called back. “It’s been a rough night and unlike last time, I’m armed.” He patted his hip. “Phobos, right? Run along and I won’t put a bullet in your face.” For all his bravado, Lance flinched when flames raced along behind him, he couldn’t help it.
“Phobos? You think I’m wimpy little Phobos? I am Deimos and you will dread my na-AH!” He shrieked as a bullet tore across his cheek.
“Sorry,” Lance said, “you were monologuing?” Arro’s magic must be fading from his left eye, he’d actually aimed right for Deimos’s forehead. Between that, and how he trembled under the heat of the flames, he was lucky to have shot Deimos at all.
It’s an illusion. They’re not real. But he could smell the burning garbage, feel the heat on the back of his neck, taste the ash in the air.
Deimos advanced on him, his lips drawn up in a wicked grin.
“This is going to be fun.” The excitement in his voice made Lance sick. It reminded him of Earl and every other asshole he knew. He’d shoot Deimos again if his arm would just stop shaking.
“Lance!” A familiar voice called and the sound of it stole his breath. It was P.K. P.K. was here and that last shred of sanity snapped. At the sound of his voice, Lance was there again, in that burning shed. Trapped, dying, begging for someone to save him. All witches burn.
“Yuri! I think- no I know Lance is over there. You have to trus- HOLY SHIT!” He cried out at the sight of a man wreathed in flames and Lance on his knees, locked in his panic.
Deimos rounded on the intruders, his face twisted up in fury. “You again!” The flames faded and strange, dark trees shot out around them. Twisting like claws, reaching for them.
Yuri grabbed P.K., yanking him away from the swinging branches. The two scampered back, but Arro stayed right where he was. The branches swung uselessly at him and vanished around him like smoke.
“Arro!” Lance called, struggling to his feet. The long healed scars on his back felt raw and fresh. “Get them out of here!” He readied his gun again, unnerved and unshaken despite the pain.
Deimos rounded back on Lance. “They’re not going anywhere!” he snarled. He raised his hand and the trees morphed into ropes made of burning light that wrapped around Lance. The bit into his back, his arms, making him scream until they curled around his throat and cut off the sound.
“No!” Arro screamed. “Unhand my Amayvi!” Dust swirled around Deimos. Rising, and sticking together as it formed the skeleton of a massive lion.
“Nivo!” Arro called, thrusting out his arms, and the lion barreled into Deimos, fangs tearing into his arm. Deimos screamed as the lion shook its head.
“Get off!” He yanked the light ropes and threw Lance at the lion. Arro snapped back his hands and the beast instantly shattered into dust, only to reform as Lance sailed safely through.
He hit the ground with a heavy thud, and a tiny, pained gasped slipped out. He dragged in a ragged breath when Deimos let him go and pulled the bands of light back into a sword.
P.K. tore away from Yuri and ran to his brother's side. "Lance! Lance wake up!"
“Get them out of here!” Arro called to Yuri as he scrambled to his feet. The air around them went cold. Disembodied voices whispered in the wind and Arro’s eyes glowed white.
“You made a big mistake,” Deimos growled.
“Yeah, you did,” Arro replied. He swung his arm wide. Lights shot out from him, slamming into Deimos and pushing him back.
Deimos roared in anger, rushing at Arro with the sword drawn.
“Arro!” Lance screamed. He was too weak to throw off P.K. and Yuri.
Arro formed a fist and Deimos froze in his tracks. Deimos struggled to move forward but it was as if gravity stopped working around him.
“You piece of-!”
“Enough!” Arro clenched his fist. Deimos gasped and struggled as he felt his body crushing on itself. “Get out of here. You’ve lost.”
The sword vanished from his hand. “Fine.” he shrugged. “Fine.”
The prison around him dissipated and he could move again.
“Get out,” Arro said. “If I-”
“Gotcha.” Deimos shot forward, his sword returning to his hand.
Lance and Arro raised their hands at the same time, and as the gunshot tore through his face, Deimos’s body collapsed in on itself.
“… well, fuck.” Lance stared at Deimos crumpled in a heap. “Arro?”
“I know.” Arro knelt and carefully set his hand on Deimos’s buckled chest. His eyes returned to their usual crimson. “Why didn’t you leave?”
“What did you do?” Lance asked. “That spell… it’s like he imploded.”
“That’s exactly what I did,” Arro replied. “Go now, and join those who came before.”
“We have to get him out of here,” Lance squeezed Arro’s shoulder. “We can’t let anyone see the body.”
“Yes. Yes, you’re right.” Arro nodded. “Take P.K. away, this will be messy.”
“I’m not leaving you.” Lance nodded at Yuri who led P.K. away as Deimos’s corpse rotted away to bones under Arro’s hands. Lance kept his hand on Arro’s shoulder as the bones crumbled into dust and drifted into the waiting vial. Arro leaned against Lance, exhausted.
“You ok?” Lance murmured.
“Just tired. Are you ok?” Arro asked.
“No, but I’ll be okay,” Lance said but smiled and squeezed Arro’s shoulder. “We’ll be okay.”

Captain Lord Robert Manners
He was born on 6 February 1758, the second son of Lieutenant-General John Manners, the Marquis of Granby, and grandson of John, 3rd Duke of Rutland. His mother was Lady Frances Seymour. He was the first cousin of Captain Hon William Clement Finch and Hon. Seymour Finch. An illegitimate cousin was Captain Evelyn Sutton.
Tumblr media
Captain Lord Robert Manners by Sir Joshua Reynolds (1723  - 1792)
Manners was educated at Eton from 1763-71 before joining the navy in April 1772 aboard the Panther 60, Captain Cornthwaite Ommanney, flying the broad pennant of Commodore Molyneux Shuldham and going out to Newfoundland in the following month where that officer served as the commander-in-chief. Returning home in November after a brief secondment to the Aldborough 24, Captain James Hawker, he then returned to Newfoundland with the Panther in the following two years, as was the custom.
In July 1775 he joined the frigate Enterprise 28, Captain Sir Thomas Rich, going out to the Mediterranean from Spithead during July, and remaining on that station for the next couple of years, during which period he was appointed an acting lieutenant. He left this vessel in the autumn of 1777 to return home to seek a lieutenant’s commission.
On 13 May 1778, as a beneficiary of the King’s fleet review, he was commissioned lieutenant of the Ocean 90, Captain John Laforey, in which ship he was present at the Battle of Ushant on 27 July. He transferred to Admiral Hon. Augustus Keppel’s flagship Victory 100 on 17 September, but in the following spring resigned his commission and went on half-pay in order to personally apply to the first lord of the Admiralty, Earl Sandwich, for a more active posting.Accordingly in July 1779 Manners joined the newly launched Alcide 74, Captain John Brisbane, but which ship, somewhat frustratingly, was not able to leave the Thames until November from where she went around to Spithead. She was subsequently present with Admiral Sir George Rodney’s fleet at the Moonlight Battle off Cape St. Vincent on 16 January 1780 and thereafter at the relief of Gibraltar.
The first lord of the Admiralty, Lord Sandwich, had already written to Rodney requesting that the highly-connected Manners be promoted as a personal favour to satisfy the young man’s political allies, indeed his family had constantly badgered Sandwich for the young officer’s promotion, claiming that to deny it was a slight to such a prominent family, and that Manners would resign if not given his chance. Accordingly, with seniority from 17 January 1780, Manners was posted captain of the Resolution 74 bearing the broad pennant of her previous captain, Commodore Sir Chaloner Ogle.Upon returning to England under the orders of Rear-Admiral Hon. Robert Digby, the Resolution led the ships which first engaged the Protée 64, which had been escorting fifteen supply ships bound for the Indian Ocean, leading to its capture on 24 February, the first such rated vessel to be taken in the war. Shortly afterwards, on 8 April as the Resolution was about to sail for North America with Rear-Admiral Thomas Graves’ squadron he first lieutenant, William Nowell, quelled a mutiny by punching the ringleader to the deck during a dispute about outstanding payments, one that also afflicted the other ships of the squadron.
Continuing to fly the broad pennant of Commodore Ogle, the Resolution eventually sailed with Graves’ squadron for North America from Plymouth in the middle of May before departing for the Leeward Islands with Admiral Sir George Rodney’s fleet in November. Upon Ogle being advanced to flag rank, Manners assumed full command of the Resolution at the beginning of 1781, and he was present at the capture of St. Eustatius on 3 February where he was rebuked for opening fire on the Dutch frigate Mars after his first lieutenant, William Nowell, had allowed her to fire her cannon as a gesture of defiance after surrendering During the same year he fought at the Battle of Fort Royal on 29 April and at the Battle of Chesapeake Bay on 5 September, where he afforded excellent support to the rear, although he had a lucky escape when the peak of his hat was shot off.. Once Hood returned to the Leeward Islands the Resolution was present at the Battle of St. Kitts on 25/26 January 1782 where she was heavily engaged at the rear of the line and incurred casualties of five men killed and eleven wounded.
At the Battle of the Saintes on 12 April the Resolution found herself in the thick of the action from her position of third in line of battle behind the flagship. Within a half-hour of his ship opening fire Manners was struck by a ball that inflicted such serious wounds to his legs that one had to be amputated, at the same time being struck by a splinter that gouged through his chest and right arm. He was invalided to the Andromache 32 bound for England and commanded by his friend, Captain George Anson Byron, but despite being initially in good spirits he died a week later on 23 April when tetanus set in. It was mooted that his body be carried home for burial, but that proving largely impractical a conference between Captain Byron, Captain Lord Cranstoun, who was returning home with Rodney’s despatches, and the Resolution’s surgeon, Robert Blair, resolved that he should be buried at sea, and the relevant service was held on the early evening of 24 April.

Death of Lord Robert Manners by William Turner Davey, after Thomas Stothard (circa 1800-1825) (c)National Portrait Gallery
Manners was unmarried. He had been elected MP for Cambridge in 1780 in a hard fought, often scurrilous and expensive contest held in his absence, but he never took up his seat.

Three Captains memorial to William Bayne, William Blair and Lord Robert Manners © 2019 Dean and Chapter of Westminster
A monument to his memory is in Westminster Abbey with those of his fellow captains William Blair and Alfred Bayne, who also lost their lives at the Battle of the Saintes. Manners was resolute, well respected, bright, skilled and gallant, and famed for his sense of fashion. A fair-minded disciplinarian, he quickly turned the Resolution into an excellent and esteemed ship, and he was deemed more than worthy of the early opportunities granted him by his birthright. Upon being informed of Manners’ death the King informed the Duke of Portland that ‘he would rather have lost three of the best ships in his service’.

I don't know if you take requests or things but i really like your writing. But can i get some jealous!Kuzuhina (like they both like each other or are dating and they both get simultaneously jealous?) Your writing is really good i love it.
Aw thank you! And I do very much take requests so thank you for the prompt! This took a while because I got fixated on figuring out UK peerage and titles and barely any of it made it into the fic that got longer than intended as per usual lol. Not sure if this quite what you had in mind but I hope you enjoy!
Title: Under Sunlight // AO3Word Count: 4,670Warnings/Tags: G. Victorian au sorta, established relationship, secretly dating, i took liberties with uk peerage, not historically accurate, a little past one-sided peko/fuyu(the kids’ former high schools are their ‘territory’ for their titles, so Duke Green Hills is gottagofast Togami)
Hajime’s nerves battle between excitement and dread andanxiety that is not entirely because of the fairly rocky carriage ride. Hecan’t seem to sit still, smoothing his hands over his legs, buttoning andunbuttoning the cuffs of his shirt, fidgeting with the lapels of his coat. Chiaki, sitting across from him, reaches over and stills his jumping knee.
“You’ve been to parties as my companion before. And we knowMakoto and Kyoko. What’s wrong?”
Hajime sighs. “I know. It’s nothing, just, he’ll be there.”
“I don’t understand. Shouldn’t you be more excited aboutthat?”
Hajime shrugs helplessly. He should. He hasn’t seen his loverin months and letters are nice but never enough. And it’s not like he can talkabout his lover since no one but Chiaki knows that his lover is the Marquess ofSuzuran, Fuyuhiko Kuzuryuu.
They are something that shouldn’t have happened, couldn’thave happened if not for chance. Chiaki’s world alone is something that Hajimeas a boy didn’t think he’d ever be a part of. And he’s still not, not really. He isn’t an earl or even a baronet, he’s Chiaki’s friend and valet. The linesare blurred and they’re already stomping over the lines of propriety andtradition and Hajime wasn’t about to test his luck with making his andFuyuhiko’s relationship public knowledge. Even with Chiaki, Fuyuhiko is of aprestige that is out of Hajime’s reach. He cherishes every second he can bewith his marquess.
“To the public, we don’t know each other,” Hajime finallysays. Even if he wanted to use Chiaki he couldn’t, his best friend and hislover are in completely different circles. Makoto and Kyoko’s engagement partyis one of very few parties where different ranking mingle, Kyoko a duke’sdaughter and Makoto a baron’s son. “And I can’t pretend not to know him the wayI do if we’re together.”
Chiaki hums and pats his knee before withdrawing. Theychange the subject and talk about who else will be in attendance, who they’relooking forward to seeing. Who they’re not. Due to the disparity between Kyokoand Makoto’s ranks, their relationship has been the fodder for gossip rags andspiteful gossip since they became public and their engagement party is not theintimate gathering of friends that they would have preferred.
Soon enough, they arrive at the Kirigiri estate. There’s aline of carriages and they wait until it’s their turn to disembark. A footmanopens the door and Chiaki gives their names as he helps them out. Free of thecarriage, Hajime smooths out his clothes and offers Chiaki his arm after shesorts out her dress. They walk arm-in-arm past the tall gates of the estate andimmediately come into a large garden party. There are patio tables andlace-decorated umbrellas. Servers mill about holding silver platters ofchampagne and lemon water. A band plays a gentle number that a few pairs danceto on the grass.
There are many familiar faces around, some Hajime knowspersonally and others he knows only by reputation. One of the tables has beenrepurposed for cards with spectators gathered around Lady Celestia and HisGrace Green Hills, Lady Touko hovering by His Grace. Sonia is in discussionwith Gundham and Kazuichi. Nekomaru, Akane, Lord Leon, and Lady Aoi are in themiddle of some sort of ball game with Dame Sakura keeping an eye on them.
“Ah, there’s Kyoko!” Chiaki says. She tugs Hajime towards asmall gathering. In the center of it is the happy couple, Kyoko drawn into thethick of the conversation and Makoto standing by her side. They’re with peopleHajime doesn’t know but when Makoto catches sight of them he looks relieved andextracts himself from the gathering after a word to Kyoko.
“Chiaki, Hajime, thank you for coming.” He seems to want toreach out for a hug but they’re in mixed company and restrains himself to abright smile and the use of their first names.
“Congratulations, my lord,” Hajime says teasingly, claspingMakoto’s hands in place of a hug.
“I’m not a lord yet.” Makoto flushes pink from embarrassmentand happiness, maybe a bit from the sun bearing down on them. He looks back toKyoko who’s glancing towards him. It’s absolutely sickening and Hajime couldn’tbe happier for them, if a touch envious.
They spend a few minutes catching up, and it’s mostly Makotothat has had major changes in his life since they last saw one another. He’s inthe thick of legalities to make Komaru the heir of their family’s barony afterhe marries into the Kirigiri family. He’ll become an earl of one of theKirigiris’ smaller lands when Kyoko inherits her father’s duchy.
They’re in the middle of discussing and lamenting all thatis involved in the preparations for Makoto and Kyoko’s wedding when Hajime hearssomeone say, ““Oh, the Marquess brought only his knight. Maybe there issomething to the rumors.”
Hajime can’t help turning around and there he is, in a darkthree piece suit with matching coat and a dark gold tie fixed in a perfectknot. And on his arm is Dame Peko, in a suit-styled dress that matches withFuyuhiko. They look a powerful pair.
Hajime knows he needs to look away, that his face is likelyfixed in a picture of longing and envy, but he soaks Fuyuhiko in. The vest, shades lighter than his coat and trousers with burnt gold fastenings and adarker embroidered design of Eastern styled dragons, is one Hajime remembers. He’dseen it in passing in a shop window the last time he had managed to visitFuyuhiko. He remembers mentioning it but they had quickly moved onto less coherentlyverbal matters.
In any case, he’d been right. The vest looks amazing onFuyuhiko and Hajime wants to peel off Fuyuhiko’s coat to see the fabric infull. They’re stopped by peers and Hajime turns around, trying to pretend hewasn’t staring so openly at the two. Chiaki’s giving him a knowing look heignores.
“I wish I could keep talking with you both, but I can’tleave Kyoko to do all the hosting. After all of this,” Makoto waves his handsabout, “is over, we must get drinks or dinner. I miss you both.”
“Of course, if you can find the time to pull yourself awayfrom your future duties as an earl and the husband of a duchess.”
Makoto rolls his eyes but waves as he returns to Kyoko, takingher arm in his, accepting felicitations and joining conversation.
Chiaki slips her hand from Hajime’s elbow. “I need to run tothe wash closet,” she says. “You’ll be fine on your own for a bit?”
“I’m supposed to be the one watching out for you,” Hajimeretorts. “I’ll be by the buffet table.”
Chiaki asks him to grab something for her before she leaveshim alone. The buffet table laden with bite-sized treats ranging from biscuitsand tea buns to mini-sandwiches and puddings in tiny glass cups. He walks downthe length of it, picking up sandwiches and pastries he knows Chaiki likes. Ashe continues to peruse the offerings, he comes to a tray of fried dough bites.Hajime doesn’t have much of a sweet tooth, but he’s very familiar with thesweet, incredibly unhealthy snack.
He reaches for the pair of tongs to grab a few of the darkstrips of dough and brown sugar but someone else has the same idea. He looksup, apology halfway off his tongue but stops short.
“Lord Suzuran,” Hajime says in a mix of surprise and trainedgreeting. He barely remembers not to call Fuyuhiko by name.
Fuyuhiko’s face is impassive but Hajime notes the way hiseyes flash in amusement. He’d done this one purpose.
“Mr. Hinata,” Fuyuhiko returns. He takes the tongs and loadsup his plate with his favorite food. “You like these?”
He’s being unfair but Hajime can’t just ignore him, and ifhe lies Fuyuhiko will never let him forget it. “Um, not really no.”
“Oh?” Then why wereyou going to grab them? remains unsaid but his expression is knowing, mouthcurved in a slight smirk.
“I just know someone who loves them,” Hajime buckles, looking away in his admission. When he looks back to Fuyuhiko, his marquess iseating one of his fried dough treats, licking his fingers of the brown sugarsyrup residue. Hajime follows the movement closely. He’s being so obvious it’sprobably pathetic. They’re out in the open and they’re in vastly differentcircles, not supposed to know each other even as acquaintances. Fuyuhiko’s amarquess and heir to a dukedom and Hajime is little more than the valet andclose friend to a viscountess.
Hajime knows what Fuyuhiko is doing. His lover has made itclear that he’s not exactly happy with keeping their relationship a secret, only doing so at Hajime’s behest. But he doesn’t try to make things easier inthe few times they attend the same social functions.
He tries to find some other topic to switch to and stupidlyasks, “Lady Natsumi couldn’t make it?” Of all the topics to pick this is thelast he could and should have gone with. But he can’t help himself. At least hedidn’t outright ask about why he brought Dame Peko. Fuyuhiko is notorious fornot courting or bringing anyone but his sisters and his knight to events as hiscompanions. His excuse has always been that he has no time nor interest forcourting and society and Natsumi loves all sorts of events so he acts as herchaperone since he doesn’t trust anyone else. It kills two birds with one stonesince it makes him fulfill the social obligations of his position.
“Natsumi’s at school so it’s just me and Peko.” He looksover his shoulder and Hajime follows suit, seeing Dame Sakura and Dame Pekoconversing. The two were schoolmates, Dame Peko a year ahead. They both havesuch rigid and neutral, if somewhat threatening, expressions it’s difficult to tellthat they’re familiar with one another.
He eats another fried dough strip. “I take it you’reaccompanying Lady Chiaki?”
Hajime nods. “Ah yes.” And speak of the devil, Hajime seesher coming towards him. “There she is.”
When she approaches, she links her arms with Hajime’s. “Sorryfor making you wait,” she says to Hajime, and then she greets Fuyuhiko.
Fuyuhiko’s eyes linger at their linked arms, the golden orbsgo flat. He fixes a polite smile and returns Chiaki’s greeting, but he’salready distancing himself. “I’ll leave you two. I should return to Peko.”Without much else, he turns on his heel and walks over to his knight. Hajimewatches after him, his heart heavy. Fuyuhiko slips easily into conversationwith Dame Peko and Dame Sakura and Hajime reaches for champagne from the trayof a passing server. He downs it quickly and grimaces at the after taste.
Chiaki leans against him. “Did I interrupt?”
Hajime sighs. “No. Oh, hey, you like this waltz, don’t you?”
It’s not the smoothest diversion but Chiaki allows him it,and it’s not like he’s lying. It is a waltz Chiaki enjoys due to its ease andsimplicity. Hajime abandons the food he’s lost his appetite for and they joinother pairs on the grassy open space in front of the band, sliding into the familiarsteps.
Hajime does his best not to look at Fuyuhiko whenever theother man is in sight over Chiaki’s shoulder. He tries to focus on Chiaki, chatting and laughing as he spins her around. They dance for two songs beforethey need to take a break. There’s really no cover from the sun. They takerefuge at one of the patio tables and manage to flag down a server with glassesof chilled lemon water. Hajime would prefer they have a quiet moment to themselves, but that’s near impossible at a gathering like this.
Chiaki, like Fuyuhiko, doesn’t always attend socialfunctions. Unless it’s a small and intimate gathering with those she considersfriends, she’d much prefer to be left to her own, literal, devices and books.
But they’re stuck and have to navigate the shifting socialwaters. Or at least Chiaki does. Most tend to ignore Hajime or order him aboutthinking he’s staff. Which he is, but only to Chiaki if he’s attending as hervalet and not companion, and that’s rarely the case if Chiaki can help it.
But today is one such time that he’s treated as less byindividuals that try to simper and curry favor from Chiaki. A lord Hajime onlyfaintly recognizes but cannot recall his title, much less his name, inviteshimself to their table and snidely questions why Hajime is just sitting there, beside Chiaki. Hajime fixes a smile and settles a hand on Chiaki’s knee underthe table to stop her from tearing the lord apart.
“I was resting. I don’t dance often and while today islovely overall, the sun is brutal.” He can’t outright correct the lord of hismisconception, it would go against all sorts of social decorum and Hajime wouldbe the one in the wrong regardless. He doesn’t want to cause Chiaki griefbecause a peer was called out on his behaviour and publically embarrassed by acommoner.
Chiaki adds, “Hajime’s a great friend. He’s always humoringme even at risk of heat stroke.”
The lord pretends it was all in jest and tries to backtrackby laughing the discussion off and moving onto safer topics of estates anddebutantes and the season’s fashion. It’s all over Hajime’s head and topics hecan’t have much say in because of his station. Even if Hajime could and wouldhave wanted to take part, the lord very pointedly directs all his attention toChiaki and all but erects a wall between them. Chiaki pats his hand in supportunder the table.
As conversation is not open to him and he’s not about toleave Chiaki alone with his man, Hajime takes to looking around. The Kirigiriestate is an architectural and landscaped masterpiece with not a stone norbranch out of place. And if structure and décor bores him, the variety ofguests dressed in the broad range of the current fashion provide plenty to beobserved.
But his eyes keep going to the man with buzzed blond hair. And he wishes they didn’t. Fuyuhiko and Dame Peko have moved on to spectate agame of cards. Some uninformed or cocky lord is trying their hand against LadyCelestia. Dame Peko leans down and whispers something in his ear, it looksintimate and Hajime’s stomach twists. He knows better, but he still feels illwhen Fuyuhiko snorts and looks up at Dame Peko with a hint of a smile andreplies, rising up on his toes before she leans back down so he can whisper inher ear.
“Who do I have to see about putting money on the Marquessand his knight being the next society wedding?” the lord says, drawing Hajime’sfocus back to the table.
“If there is such a pool, that’s the last I would bet for,”Chiaki replies.
“Now, my lady, it would be a bit scandalous but look at ourhosts. Anything’s possible, apparently.” The derision is accompanied by rolledeyes directed towards Makoto.
“The illusionary differences of social class have nothing todo with my opinions. And if someone ever thought that of me, they really do notknow me at all, now do they, Hajime?” Rarely is Chiaki curt or cold, but she’sbeen growing steadily irate with their unwelcome table companions A tense cloudsettles over the table and the lord is not so oblivious to not realize he’smade a misstep yet again.
He stumbles over some sort of recovery but Chiaki is lenientenough to save him the trouble. “If you’ll excuse us, I haven’t had the chanceto catch up with Lord Nagito.”
Chiaki gets up and Hajime follows suit but he almost stopsin his tracks seeing just whom Lord Nagito is currently with.
Lord Nagito is an eccentric peer and Hajime has never quiredisliked the man, but he can’t say he quite likes or enjoys his company. Hecan’t quite place Lord Nagito’s feelings towards him either. The odd lord hasfew close companions and by some strange logic one of them is Fuyuhiko. Hajime’snever understood and Fuyuhiko’s never been able to put a finger on it himself.
So he really shouldn’t be surprised that up ahead, champagneglasses in hand, Fuyuhiko is rolling his eyes at whatever Kazuichi and LordNagito are discussing, although arguing may be closer verb.
Chiaki reaches out and holds onto Hajime’s arm, leaning overand saying quietly, “If you want to take a few minutes, there’s probably no onearound the back.”
Hajime hesitates. He doesn’t want to runaway but he alsoisn’t into punishing himself more than he already has. There’s still a goodwhile before it’s acceptable to leave, even with the excuse that he and Chiakiwill be going straight home rather than lodging somewhere in the city. “I’llfind you in a bit.”
Chiaki lets him go after a quick kiss to his cheek. Hajimecan feel stares on them but doesn’t look around. “Go on, I’ll be fine.”
Chiaki goes off and Hajime forces himself not to stare afterher and subsequently Fuyuhiko, turning away and heading for the quieterbackyard of the estate. He walks around the edge of the manor and comes to alarge back garden of the season’s flowers in full bloom. They’re made up almostlike a maze that guides to a gazebo that’s mostly hidden by miniature trees andflowering bushes. Like Chiaki had guessed, there’s no one else around.
He follows along the path and steps into the shade of thegazebo. Inside is a white wicker patio set; a square table set with a glass topand two chairs with intricate weaving. Hajime sheds his coat and folds it overthe back of a chair before he takes a seat, leaning back and closing his eyes. Musicand chatter from the party are a faint noise in his peripheral.
While he doesn’t quite fall asleep, he must have dozed a bitdeeply because he’s blinking out of a daze when someone’s shaking his shoulder.
“Stealing away for a nap?” Fuyuhiko says looking down athim. He’s standing between Hajime’s legs that have ended up in a long sprawland still fuzzy-headed, Hajime reaches out and cups Fuyuhiko’s face, pullinghim down for a kiss.
Fuyuhiko braces himself with one hand on the back of thechair but otherwise falls into the soft but firm and lingering press of mouths.Hajime can feel Fuyuhiko smile into the kiss and it pulls a smile of his ownuntil an applause echoes from the distance and Hajime remembers where they areand that even though the gazebo is out of the way and gives the illusion ofprivacy, it is just an illusion.
It hurts his heart to see Fuyuhiko’s smile dip when Hajimehurriedly pulls away, getting to his feet and trying to create distance withouttoppling backwards over the chair. Fuyuhiko takes a step back and crosses hisarms over his chest. He’s discarded his coat as well and the vest looks just asgood as Hajime thought it would on him. Unfortunately, they’re not in a placewhere he can properly appreciate it.
“I, sorry, I forgot where we were,” Hajime says, smoothingout his clothes to take his mind off of Fuyuhiko’s.
“There’s no one around, Hajime,” Fuyuhiko says. “Everyone’sbusy with champagne and dancing and gossiping.”
“Someone could have the same idea as us and come back hereto take a breather,” Hajime argues. “Any little action lends to gossip andrumors.”
“Doesn’t stop you from fueling the rumors about you and yourviscountess,” Fuyuhiko grumbles, looking off to the side.
“You know those are baseless. Anyone that actually knowsChiaki or me knows that we’re siblings at most. And it’s expected. We grew uptogether. And it’s not like you and Dame Peko are any different.” He shouldstop there, but he can’t help bitterly adding, “At least Chiaki and I havenever had romantic feelings for each other.”
He regrets his words as soon as they escape him. Now he’sbeing unfair and purposely so about something long past. Dame Peko and Fuyuhiko’srelationship is entirely platonic and he knows it. When Dame Peko did havefeelings for Fuyuhiko, it was long before Hajime and Fuyuhiko even met.Fuyuhiko and Dame Peko had been children, it was a first crush that settledinto loyalty and trust and a bone-deep friendship.
Fuyuhiko doesn’t even say anything. He just shoves his handsinto his pockets but Hajime can see they’re clenched into fists within thefabric, his muscles tense. His face goes blank, a flinty steel to his eyes.
“Fuyuhiko, I didn’t—” Hajime tries to apologize but Fuyuhikocuts him off.
“I should be returning. If you’re going to continue napping, there’s a bench close to the doors that won’t fuck up your neck.” With thatFuyuhiko turns around and walks away, quickly disappearing behind shrubbery andreturning to the party.
Hajime falls back into the chair and hangs his head. He’sreally shoved his foot in his mouth now and he’ll definitely have to figure outhow to make it up to Fuyuhiko, if Fuyuhiko will even still talk to him.
It takes him a few minutes to make himself get up and rejointhe party even though he is far from a partying sort of mood. But he can’t disappearand abandon Chiaki until it’s time to go home.
Returning back to the rest of the party, Hajime finds thateveryone is at tables chatting or gambling or discussing business and trade. Theband’s taking a break, their instruments put off to the side under some shade, all of them down water and wiping sweat off their brows. Anyone who was wearinga coat no longer is and sleeves are rolled up. A server stops Hajime and asksif he might take Hajime’s coat, to which Hajime gratefully hands off the itemwith a thank you before looking for Chiaki.
He finds her in the shade of a looming tree with LordNagito, Kazuichi, and Lady Aoi. He joins them and makes an excuse of needingsome time away from the heat for his prolonged disappearance. Chiaki frowns athim, she must be able to tell that something had happened.
“I saw Fuyuhiko slip away for a bit,” she whispers to himwhen they have a second.
Hajime shakes his head. “I messed up.” Fuyuhiko’s across theyard. Hajime meets his eyes for a second but Fuyuhiko quickly looks away.
Chiaki pats his arm in sympathy but says, “I understand yourposition, but it must be hard on him too.”
“It’ll be harder for him if we don’t do this.”
Chiaki makes a noncommittal noise. “It was hard for Makotoand Kyoko. But they stuck together. Makoto was so worried but look at him now.”
Makoto is all smiles that are even softer when turned toKyoko, the sun shining down on them.
Hajime looks to Fuyuhiko and his heart clenches in his chestat the marquess. It’s not obvious to others, but Hajime has learned Fuyuhiko’sbody language and he knows when Fuyuhiko is upset and angry. Dame Peko doestoo. Her usually emotionless mask cracks into a hint of concern and she leansdown to whisper something to Fuyuhiko. Fuyuhiko shakes his head and runs a handthrough his hair. He smiles, a tired one, and Hajime knows it’s his fault evenbefore Dame Peko looks up and shoots him a judging glare. Hajime looks down, ashamed, and lets conversation happen around him, only making noises ofacknowledgement when needed.
Not long later, the band returns to their instruments toresume their next set. Their leader calls for couples, namely Makoto and Kyoko,to take the floor. There’s cheering and clapping as Makoto takes Kyoko’s handand leads her to the center of the cleared space. Other couples and pairssurround them, getting into position and waiting on the band. Everyone who camewith a companion finds a space. Hajime automatically takes Chiaki’s hand andgets into position, ready to move to practiced steps.
But when the band starts, Hajime recognizes the song as thefirst few notes sing through the air and his legs freeze. It’s a song native tohis hometown, a song about fate and true love discovered in touch and a leap offaith. It’s the first song Fuyuhiko and Hajime ever danced to. It was one oftheir first secret meetings, a private indoor picnic of wine and pastries spiritedaway from the kitchens.
Chiaki pats his cheek. “You should dance to this with whoyou’re meant to.” She pulls away from him. “I’d rather raid the snacks whileeveryone else is busy.” And she walks away and does exactly that, leavingHajime standing alone. Someone snickers at him but he turns and finds Fuyuhiko. He and Dame Peko have managed to snag an abandoned set of chairs. Fuyuhiko’sleaning on his elbow and looking at the pairs dancing with a wistful tilt tothe purse of his lips.
Hajime’s been a cowardly idiot. He makes his way around thedancers and comes up to Fuyuhiko. Dame Peko notices him first but she doesn’t domore than send him a warning look and make some excuse to get up and leave. Shedistracts Fuyuhiko long enough that Hajime is in front of Fuyuhiko beforeFuyuhiko can bolt.
“Mr. Hinata,” Fuyuhiko says, cautious, surprised. He quicklyshoots a glare at Dame Peko, quickly figuring out his knight had abandoned himon purpose.
“My lord.” Hajime’s voice cracks at the address, but hesoldiers on. “My lord, would you allow me a dance?” He bows at the waist, armextended, palm up. His hand is shaking ever so and he knows there are eyes onhim. A lowly valet asking a marquess to dance to a love song played at everywedding and engagement party. But all he can look at is Fuyuhiko’s face, hismouth parted in surprise, eyes wide in disbelief. And then he’s smiling, aglimmer in his gold eyes that Hajime has only ever known in privacy andseclusion where they were free to be. Well, where Hajime thought they were freeto be, but they could be free in public too.
Fuyuhiko takes his hand and Hajime almost doesn’t believeit, but he pulls Fuyuhiko to his feet and leads him to an open space, into hisembrace and the first steps of the dance. He leaves the space of proprietybetween them but Fuyuhiko steps in a little too far at the next beat andreduces it to one of intimacy. Anything less was for private rooms or acurtained alcove.
“If we’re doing this, we’re not doing it halfway, Mr.Hinata.”
Hajime laughs and lowers his hand from Fuyuhiko’s shoulderblade to the gentle curve of his lower back. “Then you should be calling me byname, Fuyuhiko.”
Fuyuhiko rolls his eyes at him but he leans up and Hajime’seyes go wide thinking that Fuyuhiko is actually going to kiss him. He’s alreadytaking such a big leap, he doesn’t know if he can qiute go that far though. Butwith a mischievous smile, Fuyuhiko angles to the side at the last second and ittakes a moment for Hajime to register the brief peck on his cheek. Before hepulls away, Fuyuhiko tsks by Hajime’s ear, “There are a few things I’d preferwe keep under moonlight.”
Hajime’s ears are bright red throughout thedance, but his heart is light and full and his smile won’t leave his face forhours to come.

Astrology Of December 2019 – The Grand Finale
Astrology Of December 2019 – The Grand Finale
By Astrobutterfly
2019 couldn’t have ended in a more grandiose manner. It’s like all the important transits of the year have been waiting for December.
When I write the monthly reports, I usually put the most important transit in the title, for example, “Uranus enters Taurus” or “Venus goes retrograde” but I just couldn’t pick just one asto event for the month of December, because there are simply too many things going on.
There was a lot of build-up in 2019. 2019 was like a suspense movie, we’ve been given clues here and there, we’ve been left wondering, but things didn’t quite make sense. In December the plot will finally be revealed. This is the Grand Finale.
Just have a look. In December 2019:
Jupiter enters Capricorn (this alone is the planetary ingress of the year)
We have a 5-planet Capricorn stellium + the Solstice
We have a Total Solar Eclipse in Capricorn (the last one… and it’s a South Node eclipse)
… and a dramatic Full Moon in Gemini (with Venus exactly conjunct Saturn and Pluto)
And of course, Saturn and Pluto are now less than 1 degree apart
Talking about Saturn conjunct Pluto. To say this is an important transit is an understatement.
The two have met last time in 1982, and since then, the world has changed dramatically. I wanted to say this is an explosive transit, but ‘explosive’ isn’t quite accurate.
Saturn conjunct Pluto will feel more like an implosion, rather than an explosion. An ‘explosive’ transit would be a Mars transit. When we have a Mars transit, there’s a lot of inner tension that has to be played out. But Saturn and Pluto are the forces of nature themselves.
When they are in transit, there is a lot of pressure from the outside pushing in, causing everything around it to collapse. This doesn’t mean you will collapse, or that ‘collapse’ has to be something negative.
Everyone seems to be afraid of Saturn conjunct Pluto, but this transit is not as negative as it may seem. It is much deeper and complex and deserves a special report which I will send you in the coming weeks. I am also working on a brand new program on how to deal with Saturn, Pluto, and their new cycle, so keep this in the back of your mind, until I send you more details.
But let’s have a look at the most important transits of the month:
December 2nd, 2019 – Jupiter Enters Capricorn
On December 2nd, 2019 Jupiter enters Capricorn. This is one of the most important transits of the year, because Jupiter only changes signs once a year, and when it does, it ALWAYS brings changes in your life.
Capricorn is a very hierarchical sign, dividing everything into classes and ranks, order and structure. Jupiter is pretty much the opposite – Jupiter loves coherence, and it’s monotheistic at its core.
Jupiter and Capricorn are pretty much antithetic, but this doesn’t mean Jupiter in Capricorn is not an absolutely magnificent transit. I already wrote a piece about Jupiter in Capricorn (there’s just so much to talk about) so keep an eye on your email on Monday to read more about this incredibly important transit.
December 3rd, 2019 – Venus Conjunct The South Node
On December 3rd, 2019 Venus is conjunct the South Node of the Moon at 8° Capricorn. This is the second (and last) time the Goddess of love meets up with the Lord of Karma (we had the first conjunction in February 2019 at 25° Capricorn).
The South Node distills the quality of the planet it gets in contact with. Venus conjunct the South Node in Capricorn is like an expensive perfume that never gets out of fashion. Perhaps with a tint of musk.
Venus, the evening star, conjunct the South Node in Capricorn is in the essence of love: honest, wise, mature, enduring, everlasting. If you “want to know what love is” Venus conjunct the South Node is a good time to find out.
December 8th, 2019 – Sun Square Neptune
On December 8th, 2019 Sun (at 16° Sagittarius) is square Neptune (at 16° Pisces). Sun is our identity, and Neptune is the planet of transcendence.
To grow, to evolve, we have to continuously reinvent ourselves. Sun square Neptune is one of those transits that will help us see beyond the limitations of our ego, beyond the limitations of what we’ve been told to believe it’s possible.
In reality (even if ‘reality’ is a world Neptune is not keen of) you can be whoever you want to be. Even if in the process you’ll have to lose yourself.
December 9th – Mercury Enters Sagittarius
On December 9th, 2019 Mercury enters Sagittarius, the sign of its detriment. Mercury is in up for a fast ride in Sagittarius, because Mercury has caught quite a bit of speed now and will only spend 20 days in this sign.
When in Sagittarius, Mercury is blindfolded. Sagittarius is the sign of big-picture thinking, and big-picture thinking is not Mercury’s area of competence. He will have to rely on his intuition, and he’s not used to that (Mercury loves facts, what he can see, touch, or hear).
What does that mean for you? For the next 3 weeks, things will just fly by, leaving you bewildered. “What the hell just happened? “How could I not see it coming?”. There’s just too much to process this month, and Mercury will not be very helpful.
This month you want to follow your intuition, even if it comes difficult to you, even if you’re the logical/scientific, “I only believe in what I can see” type of person.
December 12th, 2019 – Full Moon In Gemini
What a Full Moon! Venus is completely sandwiched between Saturn and Pluto (Saturn is at 19° Capricorn, Venus and 20° Capricorn, and Pluto at 21° Capricorn.) And the Full Moon (at 19° Gemini) is quincunx all of that.
AND, if that was not enough, on the same day, Chiron changes direction. The primal identity wound (Chiron direct at 1° Aries) can no longer be ignored. This time, we have to get to the heart of the matter (Venus conjunct Saturn and Pluto). No matter how.
Because the quincunx will ask you to find a creative solution. Pay special attention to this Full Moon, because it will reveal what the monumental Saturn-Pluto conjunction in January 2020 is really about.
December 12th, 2019 – Chiron Goes Direct
Chiron stations direct on December 12th at 1° Aries. As with any slow-moving ‘planet’, changes in direction are more important than the retrogrades per se, and even more important than mosts transits.
So when Chiron goes stationary retrograde (once a year) and stationary direct (also just once a year, i.e. now) we feel its energy more strongly than when Mercury, Venus or Mars are square Chiron, for example.
So if you’re Chiron-sensitive (and if you’re into astrology, you probably are) Chiron stationary direct will reveal something very personal and vulnerable about yourself. Something you don’t feel easy about. But something that if you choose to explore and embrace, will eventually heal you.
December 20th, 2019 – Mercury Square Neptune
On December 20th, 2019 Mercury (at 16° Sagittarius) is square Neptune (at 16° Pisces). Mercury is the planet of perception, of how we make sense of the world.
Neptune blurs everything, showing us that beyond our perception (stimulus decoding and all of that) there is a higher truth, a truth that cannot be understood if we go with how our mind is designed to work.
The result? We get confused. We doubt everything. We even doubt ourselves. But this process is absolutely necessary, if we want to upgrade our understanding of reality and of ourselves.
Everything will start to make sense again, when Mercury will enter Capricorn and conjunct Saturn and Pluto, in January 2020.
December 22nd, 2019 – Sun Enters Capricorn
Sun is now at 0° Capricorn, one of the 4 cardinal degrees of initiation, one of the 4 most potent degrees of the zodiac. 0° Capricorn is the southernmost circle of latitude, which means that the Sun is finally resuming its downward spiral and starts moving up again.
The Sun will eventually cross the celestial equator 4 months later, on March 21st, when the day will be equal to the night. Until then, let’s celebrate the “birth” of the Sun and wish all the Capricorns out there a happy birthday!
December 25th/26th – Total Solar Eclipse In Capricorn
On December 25th or December 26th (depending on where you live) we have a Total Solar Eclipse at 4° in Capricorn. This is a South Node Eclipse, so it’s about completing a chapter.
This is a very important eclipse, and I can’t wait to write more about it. For now, I just want to mention that this is not a “bad” eclipse even if it’s connected with endings and even if we have that heavy Capricorn stellium. The Eclipse is conjunct Jupiter and trine Uranus, which are positive, supporting aspects.
December 27th, 2019 – Sun Conjunct Jupiter
On December 27th, 2019, Sun is conjunct Jupiter at 4° Capricorn.
A new Sun-Jupiter synodic cycle begins, in the aftermath of the Solar Eclipse. Sun is our personal identity and Jupiter is the higher truth. This is a good time to examine our beliefs. Are they still valid? Do they still reflect the person we’ve become?
Today is a good time to start something that is connected to the role Jupiter plays in your chart (the house Jupiter rules, and the house where you have 4° Capricorn).
December 29th, 2019 – Mercury Enters Capricorn
Mercury joins the Capricorn club (as if we didn’t have enough Capricorn ‘action’ already with the Sun, Jupiter, Saturn, Pluto and the South Node). So we now have a record of 6 planets in Capricorn and a lot of build-up for the Saturn-Pluto conjunction in January 2020.
This means that a particular area of your life gets special attention. Of course, that’s the house where you have Capricorn on the cusp. And that’s just the beginning. The Saturn-Pluto conjunction is less than 1° apart now, and will become exact on January 2020.
December 30th, 2019 – Sun Conjunct South Node
This is the Grand finale, my friends. After being epically eclipsed just a few days earlier, the Sun is now dissolving under the South Node, to be completely released from its Capricorn karma.
What a December! It’s been a lot going on, but it was all necessary. You’re now ready for a New Year.

From the dawn of time we came…moving silently down through the centuries. Living many secret lives, struggling to reach the time of the gathering, when the few who remain will battle to the last. No one has ever known we were among you…..until now.
~*~
Conchobhar Raghalach Ua Neill’s father, High King Brian Ua Neill had been murdered by the Anglo-Normansat the Battle of Druim Dearg and his head severed and removed to the King of the Saxons in London. Ireland was not a safe place for the dead king’s children, especially a small and angry second son, and it was decided that he should seek safety with family in France. He was five years old.
Eventually he found his footing as a soldier, joining the aristocratic ranks of the Order of the Poor Knights of Christ and the Temple of Solomon ~ more famously known as the Knights Templar.
However his own death came just prior to the fall of Acre, which would see the beginning of the end of the Templars. His mentor and rescuer was a Saracen immortal by the name of Imad Ad-Din Al-Isfahani, and it was this warrior that dragged him off the battle field and held the two day vigil over the young Irish prince’s body.
Over the next fifteen years, he trained Conchobhar...who now goes by Riley...various kinds of swordsmanship, arts and sciences previously unknown to the Knight.
Eventually the two parted with mutual affection and kept in touch over the centuries via lengthy correspondence. Always restless, Conchobhar ventured to the New World as soon as he had a chance, and one of his larks was a trip with an English Captain, Cook.
In 1778, Cook and his crew aboard the HMS Discovery became the first Europeans to discover the Hawaiian Islands when they sailed past the island Oahu. They landed on Waimea on the island of Kauai two days later and decided to name the island group the Sandwich Islands, in honour of John Montague, the Earl of Sandwich, and Cook’s greatest patron.
The natives were quite welcoming and fascinated by the Europeans’ ships and use of iron. Cook provisioned his ships by trading the metal and his sailors traded iron nails for sex. The ships made a brief stop at Ni’ihau before continuing North. A year later, they returned to the islands and found safe harbour in Kealakekua Bay.This time, the visiting crew were not so welcomed. The local populace greeted Cook’s men by hurling rocks, and eventually a brave group stole a small cutter from the Discovery. As anyone could guess, negotiations with King Kalaniopuu for the return of the cutter collapsed after one of the lesser chiefs was shot to death and a mob of the Hawaiians descended on Cook’s party. The captain and his men fired on the angry Hawaiians, but they were soon overwhelmed and only a few managed to escape to the safety of the Resolution. Cook himself was killed by the mob, and days later, the Englishmen retaliated by firing their canons and muskets at the shore, killing some 30 of the natives, before eventually leaving.Conchobhar did not go with them.
Instead, he had at first sided with the natives, and then chose to stay behind when he realised a particular green eyed girl that died in his arms was like him... an immortal. It took a very long time to learn her language, even if he started with her name. Which he could not then, and even now, cannot say right. But he took Kawenaʻulaokalaniahiʻiakaikapoliopelekawahineʻaihonua as his ward. He renamed her Elizabeth after his own mother.
The two have been inseparable ever since.

안전한놀이터 - A Failsafe Method to Win Money #236
French playing cards teaching the art of war, or Jue de la Guerre. (Gilles Jodelet de La Boissière artist; Pierre le Pautre, engraver; 17th century). (Guest, Vol. 2) https://www.washingtonpost.com/newssearch/?query=우리카지노 In the industry, this black compound is sometimes known as "gick".Some card manufacturers may purchase pasteboard from various suppliers; large companies such as USPCC create their own proprietary pasteboard. The legend goes something like this: in 1765, John Montagu, the fourth Earl of Sandwich, was such a huge gambler that he didn't want to leave the gaming table to eat. Later, somebody (and I have no idea who) took it to the next step and added the option to redraw any number of cards for the price of the Ante or to buy a single card without having to redraw. That, combined with the option to make the dealer redraw, would have been too powerful in the player's favor.
It is not known whether these cards influenced the design of the Indian cards used for the game of Ganjifa, or whether the Indian cards may have influenced these. Regardless, the Indian cards have many distinctive features: they are round, generally hand painted with intricate designs, and comprise more than four suits (often as many as thirty two, like a deck in the Deutsches Spielkarten-Museum, painted in the Mewar, a city in Rajasthan, between the 18th and 19th century. Decks used to play have from eight up to twenty different suits). The earliest dated European woodcut is 1418. No examples of printed cards from before 1423 survive. But from about 1418 to 1450 professional card makers in Ulm, Nuremberg, and Augsburg created printed decks. Playing cards even competed with devotional images as the most common uses for woodcut in this period. Typically the first ball drawn is the determining factor. It is more than likely the book that Arrco published was for their own deck. Parker Brothers created a fifth-suit Bridge deck in 1938 called Castle Bridge, in which the fifth suit of Castles looked like a Rook chess piece and was colored green.
The alleged "World's Smallest Casino" doesn't even have an address. If the Dealer does not have at least an Ace and King, all Players who haven’t folded are paid even money on their Ante wagers only. When the Dealer’s hand is an Ace and King or better, you must have a better hand to win. The most famous of the films is 21, which is a story derived from the real-life antics of the MIT Blackjack Team. Liberty of the Professions has for her attributes only a cornucopia and a pomegranate, symbols of fecundity. Her mottos are "Industry" and the "Trading License" (Patents) which she holds in her hand.
Today, the public might know how to play blackjack or bridge, but few stop to consider that a deck of cards is a marvel of engineering, design, and history. French playing cards are most famous deck of card game. The total number of series in French suits are thirteen for each of the suit : clubs (♣), diamonds (♦), hearts (♥) and spades (♠), with different face cards.Every ace on card represents every symbol of its suit that is a king, queen and jack.Nope. When it comes to full houses the highest of the three-of-a-kinds determines the winner. In the example above the full house with three 8s tops the full house with three 3s. c. Is equal in rank to the dealer's five-card hand, the dealer shall return the Ante and Bet
There are frequently restrictions on which cards a player is permitted to play to a trick. Such restrictions commonly depend on the card led (first played) to the trick, and may depend on cards subsequently played. Some common sets of such restrictions are described under following suit. Hard way rolls are so named because there is only one way to roll them (i.e., the value on each die is the same when the number is rolled). Consequently, it is more likely to roll the number in combinations (easy) rather than as a double (hard). But it doesn’t matter what you bet - the next spin is unrelated to all previous spins. The players, each in turn, call for more cards dealt faceup one at a time until they bust or “stand.” Anyone dealt a natural wins immediately unless the dealer is showing an ace or a 10.

As noted, many states legalized casinos over the last 35 years, and at the same time, they limited the number of locations. What is less obvious to many is that the long-term experience rarely occurs at the player level. 우리카지노계열 Note that the points must all be different numbers for them to count towards the fire bet. For example, a shooter who successfully hits a point of 10 twice will only garner credit for the first one on the fire bet. The probability of a player hitting all 20 numbers on a 20 spot ticket is 1 in 3,535,316,142,212,174,320.
Tiles are shuffled on the table and are arranged into eight face-down stacks of four tiles each in an assembly known as the woodpile. Individual stacks or tiles may then be moved in specific ways to rearrange the woodpile, after which the players place their bets. Banked games include blackjack, craps, keno, roulette, and traditional slot machines.Older dealers and players may use the term "Big Red" because craps tables once prominently featured a large red "7" in the center of the layout for the one-roll seven bet. During the comeout, the seven is called "seven, front line winner", frequently followed by "pay the line" and/or "take the don'ts". The strategy at that time was to maximize the volume of people going to Las Vegas.
These bets are considered working bets, and will continue to be paid out each time a shooter rolls the number bet. Church-run games, however, are normally weekly affairs held on the church premises.Vote up the most surprising facts about the fast-paced world of casinos and gambling. This additional bet wins if the point is rolled again before a 7 is rolled (the point is made) and pays at the true odds of 2-to-1 if 4 or 10 is the point, 3-to-2 if 5 or 9 is the point, or 6-to-5 if 6 or 8 is the point.

안전메이저놀이터 Maximum Fortune - New Version
In certain jurisdictions, VLTs are known as video gaming devices (VGD) or video slot machines along with "Video Gaming Terminal (VGT)". In the twenty-first century, casinos are choosier. They are also used to play a solitaire game that is very popular in the United States in its electronic form. The legend goes something like this: in 1765, John Montagu, the fourth Earl of Sandwich, was such a huge gambler that he didn't want to leave the gaming table to eat.
At commercial halls, after calling the number the caller then displays the next number on a television monitor; bingo cannot be called until that number is called aloud, however. https://www.washingtonpost.com/newssearch/?query=메이저사이트추천 The Power Play was seen at the Palms casino in Managua, Nicaragua. It pays 6 to 1 if the dealer has at least a pair and the player wins. In the unlikely event the dealer has at least a pair and there is an tie, the bet is a push. The following return table shows a house edge of 12.41%. Players are either directly interacting with others, as in craps or poker, or surrounded by other people as they play the slot machines. Surprisingly, this doesn’t mean passing your dealer a joint in the casino. Passing your toke to a dealer is a gambling term that refers to tipping the dealer – and it’s good manners in most places, especially when you’ve won the hand. A possible origin for the word is that it’s short for tokens (of appreciation).
7/5 Jacks or Better cuts the Full House payout from 9x your bet to 7x your bet, and also cuts the Flush payout from 6x your bet to 5x your bet. While acting as the shooter, a player must have a bet on the "Pass" line and/or the "Don't Pass" line. "Pass" and "Don't Pass" are sometimes called "Win" and "Don't Win" or "Right" and "Wrong" bets. If it is possible to play Caribbean Stud Poker in multi-player table (live or on-line) then the opportunity to peek other players’ cards can affect strategy decisions and reduce the house edge a little bit. However the optimal strategy in this situation becomes very complicated and the casinos usually forbid exchanging information between players. One aspect of casino gambling that’s especially appealing to players is the fact that the majority of games are very straightforward.
Tumblr media
This is what makes bluffing possible. Bluffing is a primary feature of poker, one that distinguishes it from other vying games and from other games that make use of poker hand rankings. If the first 2 numbers or letters of the spin match up, the digital program will display many animations before the third reel stops spinning, to give the player added excitement. The Ace can be used to either fill the numeral ones spot or can be used as the highest-ranked card of the sets.By comparing the aces of the several varieties described so far, some further differences can be found: traditional French decks feature the manufacturer's name or logo on the ace of Clubs, which is the only one of the four decorated by a small wreath surrounding the suit symbol. Belgian aces are plain, usually lacking the brand's name or any special detail. Turkish versions too are plain, but some editions carry the brand's name on the aces of Hearts and Diamonds (this is not a standard detail, though). Genoese decks, instead, show the brand's logo on the ace of Hearts, the card which also carried the tax stamp; the remaining aces do not have any further decoration.
The numbers that are called in a game of bingo may be drawn utilizing a variety of methods to randomly generate the ball call. The dealers will insist that the shooter roll with one hand and that the dice bounce off the far wall surrounding the table. Even after casino gambling was legalized in Nevada in 1931, its growth outside that state was stifled for decades. This variation offers up to a theoretical return of 100.2 percent, when played with perfect strategy — however, this % is only on a "10/7" version video poker game (10/7 being the payouts for a full house and a flush).
Access to the commune is by the Route nationale N59 from Bertrichamps in the south-east which passes through the heart of the commune east of the town and continues north-west to join the N333 south-east of Lunéville. The legal distinction between a "call bet" and an "announced bet" is that a "call bet" is a bet called by the player without him placing any money on the table to cover the cost of the bet. Certain of the states and some industry participants have safeguards to try and protect these individuals from their self-destructive behavior.모바일바둑이A variation often seen is "3-4-5X Odds", where the maximum allowed odds bet depends on the point: three times if the point is 4 or 10; four times on points of 5 or 9; or five times on points of 6 or 8. This rule simplifies the calculation of winnings: a maximum pass odds bet on a 3–4–5× table will always be paid at six times the pass line bet regardless of the point.
For example, a super reach might make a small change in its animation or show an introductory animation or picture. That hasn't stopped casinos around the world from stopping card counting, however, especially if the player is less-than-subtle in their approach (actor Ben Affleck, for example, was banned from a casino in 2014 for his trickery). There are over 100 different variants of the game in circulation. At the Ritz London casino in March 2004, two Serbs and a Hungarian used a laser scanner hidden inside a mobile phone linked to a computer to predict the sector of the wheel where the ball was most likely to drop.
Another variation uses a red and a blue deck of 36 custom playing cards each. Each card has a picture of a two-die roll on it – from 1–1 to 6–6. The shooter shoots what looks like a red and a blue die, called "cubes". Crapless craps, also known as Bastard Craps, is a simple version of the original craps game, and is normally played as an online private game. This can either lead to you being banned for life. This means that you will be in no way to get their names off their list. When players wish to exchange their winnings, they must call a parlor staff member by using a call button located at the top of their station.

BUYING THE $8,000,000 안전한놀이터 PENTHOUSE! (GTA 5 Online)
Faro, at one time the principal gambling game in the United States, has become obsolete. As such, they cannot profitably let you take down the bet after the first roll. Players can bet or lay odds behind an established point depending on whether it was a Pass/Come or Don't Pass/Don't Come to lower house edge by receiving true odds on the point. We’re here to help you understand those rules, and you can visit the casino etiquette page below to begin learning how things work. Although we cannot be sure which version of the story is true, it is evident that Aruba and the Caribbean region in general played a significant role in the games discovery and development.
This supplemental bet must be placed in the designated area on the layout before the dealer announces “Rien ne va plus” (no more bets) and the cards are distributed. The supplemental bet wins if your hand is a royal flush, a straight flush, a four of a kind, a full house, or a flush, regardless of the ranking of the dealer’s hand. He has no choice but to let it all ride. Fortunately, black keeps coming up. Eventually, Rosie leaves, and Bingo is able to take his winnings. The story also references the Martingale betting strategy and the "en prison" rule. Jokers first appeared in printed American decks in 1867, and by 1880, British card makers had followed suit, as it were. If the player loses all bets placed are lost. If the player Folds they lose their Ante bet. If the player wins payouts are decided as follows; If the player wins and the dealer does not qualify the Ante bet is paid out at 1 to 1 while the Call bet pushes.
Tumblr media
1480: France begins producing decks with suits of spades, hearts, diamonds, and clubs. The clubs are probably a modified acorn design, while the spade is a stylized leaf. http://www.bbc.co.uk/search?q=모바일바둑이 In the long run, the percentage will hold up and the casino will make its profit. The invention was Sandwich is also associated with the John Montague, 4th Earl of Sandwich who wanted to play his game without him being a hindrance. Some casino games have a skill element, where the players' decisions have an impact on the results.
Whirl or World: A five-unit bet that is a combination of a horn and any-seven bet, with the idea that if a seven is rolled the bet is a push, because the money won on the seven is lost on the horn portions of the bet. Besides the rules of the game itself, a number of formal and informal rules are commonly applied in the table form of Craps, especially when played in a casino. After all, these payouts have nothing to do with your poker skills and all about luck. They depend on the cards you get dealt after you’ve placed your bets, but before you choose to Call or Fold. And no matter what version you decide to play, the bonus bet will be the same for all games, so is the jackpot. And if you want to play Caribbean Stud Poker game in style, you’re at the right place with Caribbean Stud. If, with a point established, that point is rolled again before a 7, the bet wins.
The chips remain on the table, but the player cannot win from or lose chips which are not working. The following chart shows the dice combinations needed to roll each number. 토토사이트 Older parents over the age of forty-five, who often have more vacation time and available spending money than younger adults, made up the largest group—23%—of casino gamblers in 2005. We’ll also explain how you can qualify for such treatment.
The most notable difference between playing street craps and bank craps is that there is no bank or house to cover bets in street craps. About 75 percent of a convenience casino’s win (i.e., money lost by patrons), derives from slot machines, rather than tables games such as poker or craps.Las Vegas World War II veteran Elmer Sherman won a shocking $4.6 million from a slot machine at the Mirage in 1989, but he wasn't content to stop there. Casinos use every trick in the book to separate you from your cash as fast as possible.
Each space in the grid contains a number, except the middle square, which is designated a "Free" space. Even though players are allowed to remove the don't pass line bet after a point has been established, the bet cannot be turned "Off" without being removed. If a player chooses to remove the don't pass line bet, he or she can no longer lay odds behind the don't pass line. The legend goes something like this: in 1765, John Montagu, the fourth Earl of Sandwich, was such a huge gambler that he didn't want to leave the gaming table to eat. The dealer flips a button to the "On" side and moves it to the point number signifying the second phase of the round.
he wheel is divided into a number of equal segments separated by spokes or pins. The commune has a large forest in the east with the rest of the commune mixed forest and farmland. This belief is false, and is known as the gambler's fallacy. Players wishing to bet on the 'outside' will select bets on larger positional groupings of pockets, the pocket color, or whether the winning number is odd or even. The payout odds for each type of bet are based on its probability.
