- Your sister says you don't have a family.
- No, I don't.
- She thinks that you ought to get married and have children of your own, instead of trying to be a father to hers.
- Yeah.
- Except she thinks you are afraid of the responsibility.
- That's interesting... anything else?
- She thinks you like policing because you think you are right about everything and you're the only one who can do anything, and when you drink a lot of beer you say things like 'none of the other police know a crook from a bag of elbows!'. At least I think that's what she said.

Witness (1985). While protecting an Amish boy - who is the sole witness to a brutal murder - and his mother, a detective is forced to seek refuge within their community when his own life is threatened.
This is one of my mum's favourite movies, and I still remember her finally deciding I was old enough to watch it with her (when I probably wasn't, haha) and feeling every way this movie sings. And man, it holds up. Peter Weir really is THAT director, an uncanny touch with both the feminine and the masculine, with tenderness and violence, with languid lyricism and brute, effective punctuation. It's kind of insane to me that his body of work isn't given the same bated-breath treatment as some of his contemporaries. Anyway, this might just be a perfect romantic thriller, and far and away Harrison Ford's best work. 9/10.

25 of 250: Favorite Films - Witness
Not long ago, work colleagues and I got into a discussion about what our favorite films were. Given my categorical nature I could not resist writing down a list and, as a writing challenge, have decided to write 250 word reviews of my favorite 25 films of all-time. Note: these are my favorite films, not what I think are the best films of all time.
Directed by: Peter Weir
Written by: Earl W. Wallace and William Kelley
Starring: Harrison Ford, Kelly McGillis, Lukas Haas
Year/Country: 1985, United States
In an interview with the American Film Institute, Harrison Ford said, “the worst thing you can do (with a love story) is make love because it spoils the tension.” This was in reference to Australian director Peter Weir’s Witness, one of cinema’s great star-crossed love stories. Ford plays Detective Book, a Philadelphia cop who is shot by a crooked member of his department while investigating the murder of an undercover cop. The only witness to the crime is a visiting Amish boy, accompanied by his mother. Wounded, he takes the boy and his mother back to Pennsylvania’s Amish country where he’s forced to hide out.
From there the movie becomes something truly special - a beautifully shot and scored, thoughtful, honest examination of different cultures, their limitations, and how those living within those cultures are both empowered and constrained by them. Ford turns in the best performance of his career (netting his only Oscar nominatio). His Detective Book is a vulnerable man, out of place in the Amish world. The openness with which he approaches his situation leads to the tender romance with Kelly McGillis’s Rachel. Both are clearly attracted to each other but the tremendous gulf between their cultures prevents them from consummating their attraction. The film is mature enough to realize this (Book: “If we'd made love last night I'd have to stay. Or you'd have to leave.”) and it elevates the film’s power and informs its Hitchcockian finale, one filled with notable restraint and highlights the film’s themes.

I’ve bolded those names who are either current or former members of the BJU Board of Trustees. UPDATE: I eliminated this indication after receiving all the names who signed.
The men present who voted unanimously were either all of those or some of those. We don’t know. We can presume that the Officers were all likely present: Kevin Schaal, Gordan Dickson, Taigen Joos, Bud Steadman, and Michael Privett.
Who abstained? Bob III didn’t. Mike Harding as a present BJU Board member? Stephen Jones as a very absent member of the Royal family? Mark Minnick as a current employee?
The only name on there that I can guarantee did not abstain was Don Johnson, but he’s an old friend of mine. ;)
What do you think?
UPDATE, May 15, 2023:
The Positives have added an unredacted signatory list. WutBJU will mark all those signatories on the above list in bold italics.

On 12th of June the year 1300 The Scots, under the guardian, John [Red] Comyn, beat an English army at Dillecarew field near Lindores in Fife.
This a follow up to the post about Wallace and Black Earnside, I’ve tried to cobble a post together before about it but this time spent longer trying.........
This is confusing for me, I am merely laying it down here to show you what an amateur sleuth/historian is up against while posting about the First War of Scottish Independence.........
According to sources Sir William Wallace was again said to be present at this battle, Comyn and he would pair up again three years later at Roslin, another battle that get’s overlooked a wee bit lesser so than this one though.
It’s very difficult reconciling the facts of what happened with so little being written, Sir John Fraser “the Patriot”, another present at Roslin, is said to have 4000 men to the rear of the English army, but as I understand it, Fraser was still on the side of Edward I at the time, Wallace, the only one of the three who never fought for the English.
According to the source, Fraser had Sir William Wallace at his side and the Scots made short work of the English army, killing the English General Sir John Siward. I can’t find any mention of Siward being killed, or even being an English general, other Siwards are from earlier in our history, most notably fighting alongside King Malcolm II.
The numbers killed are said to be about 3,000 English as opposed to 300 Scot’s. I found a brief mention of the battle in another source that states that the Scots casualties included a Christopher Seton, but the only Seton of that era I found is said to have been executed in 1306 at Dumfries, another source says he, and another two notable Scots, “ Sir Thomas Lochore, and Sir John Balfour, Sheriff of Fife, were wounded and hurt. “
So I’m scratching around trying to make sense of all this and I come across this
“extensive forest of Blackironside , and , after an obstinate conflict , the invaders were defeated with the loss of 1580 men . This engagement , which is sometimes called the Battle of Dillecarew ,
And then there was this.
Sir Duncan Balfour, sheriff of Fife,
one of the patriotic few who adhered to the
fortunes of the renowned Sir William Wal-
lace. He was slain 12th June, 1298, at the
battle of Blackironside, where the Scottish
hero defeated, with great slaughter, tlie
English under Aymer de Valence, Earl of
Pembroke. Sir Duncan's son,
Sir John Balfour, who succeeded to his
father's estates and office, that of sheriff of
Fife. Sir John participated in the victory
obtained at Dillecarew, in 1300, by Sir John
Fraser and Sir W^illiam Wallace, but re-
ceived a severe wound in the conflict. His
son and successor.
So was there two battles in roughly the same area, or was it the same battle, it seems the historians can’t agree so what chance do I have?
So it’s here I have decided to leave it, I will no doubt return to it this time next year, but my head hurts now.
