it was almost hard to think of how they'd started this whole thing. Back when dean hated himself so much that he would fantasise about getting killed on a hunt, Sam so confused about why dean didn't want to talk to him. One day the dam just... broke, no other way to say it. Confessions poured out, love filled in and life continues. They're different now, but not that much, still brothers first. Now they're just brothers who would get arrested even if they weren't legally dead and serial killers.

Oh well, incest is a pretty small crime compared to everything else. Besides, it's not like it happened back when they were kids...

i think spn shoulve done more episodes like the benders, where the monster of the week turned out to be human, mostly because in the early seasons spn was already questioning that whole "monsters are inherently evil" ideology that most of the hunters have, but the later seasons gave that question up, save for some beloved sidecharacters. It becomes less about saving people and more about genociding things.

When the british want to eradicate all monsters its not "what if those monsters havent hurt anyone?" Its "specifically our good friend garth should not be killed because he hasnt hurt anyone". The monsterous is only acceptable when youre friends with the winchesters.

Back to the Benders, episodes like that would make the main characters confront that there is monsterous in humanity too. A topic that was kind of explored with sams bloodboy and soulless arc and moc dean but each time there it was more like they were being corrupted by the monsterous.

Anyways idk what my point here is.

Most of the monsters in spn are monster either because they got turned into one or were born that way. And while there are some monsters that hurt people for enjoyment most do it to survive. Theyre basically hunted for their existance. Spn is so fucked up if you think about the implications tm, exept that they never actually explore them

i wouldn't say these songs describe sam&dean the most because my brainworms are fickle and often incomprehensible, but i have a whole slew of songs that are samdean songs for me! for example children's work by dessa as an overview of the whole show, untouchable face by ani difranco for pining!dean in the pilot episode, gospel truth by joseph j jones for early season pining, 551 by dessa for s4/s5 vibes, learning to love again by matt kearny for the relief of telling your brother you love him, the heart is a muscle by gang of youths for late seasons comfy brosbands, find me by forest blakk for the finale (not reeeeally a song but it counts).

and obvious ones like brother by needtobreathe, night moves by bob seger or always gold by radical face.

i also have a terrible habit of trying to connect every song i listen to while drawing to the ship i'm drawing so i'll go like, maybe before he cheats by carrie underwood IS a samdean song.....

i don't think i can possibly answer this any better than elsi did with eastern bloc because it's both hilarious and interesting. i also want to add that it would feed into the religious angle in a way worth exploring, dean being a non-believer and everything.

it was so long ago that i can't tell you much about the first spn fics i've read. one that i remember i read early on was on fanfiction.net and wasn't wincest but destiel. it had dean traveling through different universes for a reason i can't remember and in most of those other universes cas and him were banging. but what stuck with me when i read it was that there was one universe where dean had died and sam and cas were hooking up haha. the further details of that fic escape me.

an early wincest fic i remember was one where sam saves dean from hell and it was based on orpheus and eurydice.

I always wanted to see the back seat full of their stuff.

I was on my first watch through, and only on S4, and after I wrote a few more, the first 2 fics I wrote just seemed so saccharine and out of character that I wanted them gone. the first one took place in S4, dean POV, Dean comes back from hell and realizes he's in love with Sam. it was not a good premise but I liked the case part of it. had to do with a selkie. I may re-write that, now that I think about it. self-plagiarize, baby!!!

would you believe... no? I tried to think about it, but, no concrete parallels. the last fandom I actively wrote for was the video game series yakuza, so it dealt with middle-aged men who want to kill each other. some enmeshment there for sure, but not codependency. samdean is new for me

You know, when I first started watching Supernatural, (oh, beloved seasons 4 and 5) one of my early favorite episodes was Changing Channels. One, it’s clever, two, it’s Gabriel being kind of a douche and who doesn’t love that?

So imagine my joy and happiness at reading Changing Channels: Queer Premiere by @fellshish and @emeraldcas

No, it’s not Friday, but this is still a fic rec, so hold on to your seats!

This fic is all kinds of clever and funny and sweet and oh, yes, the emotions. From the Muppets to Glee, to Shameless & What We Do in the Shadows, Schitt’s Creek and the Bachelor, this story is a thrill ride full of humor, Dean and Cas being utterly perplexed, and it’s full of fictional characters trying to help our guys find their way.

The thing I love about both authors is their ability to get to the heart of the matter with humor or humorous situations. It’s a sort of sucker punch that sneaks up on you, because you’re enjoying everything so much and laughing and then wham! the feels have overtaken you.

You feel for Cas so much after the Glee episode; you feel for Dean and his inner turmoil even more, throughout all of it. You kind of have to agree with Gabriel at one point - will these two chuckleheads ever sort themselves out?!

What you have here in Changing Channels is nothing short of brilliance and it illustrates all that I love about spn fan fic - it’s smart and funny and full of love for the Supernatural world (as well as for the worlds the boys get to visit) and you can feel it in each chapter. This fic is truly a labor of love and it’s also just two fantastic writers having a kick ass time and it is such a joy to experience that with them. It really shines forth in their words and I get a smile even now, just thinking about it. 😊😊 (me after reading it the first time)

So maybe you have this fic bookmarked, maybe you haven’t had a chance to read it yet, or maybe you’re just hearing about it - whatever your situation is, go forth now and be entertained! It’ll make you laugh; it might make you cry. But you’ll love it.

I have only seen Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne/Batman. I assume others who played him had that elegance, nuanced layers of sadness and that je ne sais quoi, that indefinable allure that makes the character fascinating.

Jensen Ackles seems too forced when he does anger, too obvious when peeved, too heavy with sarcasm. What kind of acting is that? Maybe it is that it is acting. I don't get the sense that there is anything beneath the surface to explore. He plays a part, rather than becomes the character.

I would like to think Ackles knows his limitations and would never submit himself for playing such an intricate and beloved character. But, does he? He seems so arrogant.

Whereas I only ever paid attention to Christian Bale's Batman, lol! Of course, I've been a Christian Bale fan since Newsies, so my impression of him may be biased, but I felt like he captured Batman's internal conflicts well, and easily transitioned between Batman and Bruce Wayne (though I never cared for any of the love interests). He certainly had a commanding presence on screen and you really believed he was strong and agile enough to take on the villains of Gotham.

I believe the acting Jensen does is considered over-acting without any consideration for the character. @hologramcowboy and @jarpadswalker could probably give you a better answer regarding his acting, but it does seem very one-note, at least from what I've seen since SPN.

I know he can do better, as even his Dean from early seasons of SPN had a layer of nuance that can only happen by truly understanding the character and his motivations. I still marvel at the work he did in S2 EP20, What is and What Should Never Be. Unfortunately, the long stretch of SPN either made him lazy or forgetful when it comes to crafting characters and stories.

As to your question about Jensen knowing his limitations? I'm guessing that the majority of actors, including Jensen, would never turn down a role they were hired for, even if they felt they weren't right for it. A job is a job.
