East Imperial ist eine neuseeländische Marke für Tonic Water und andere klassische Filler. Dem erklärten Ziel des Unternehmens nach besinnt sich East Imperial auf die Anfänge dieser Spezialität, als im Jahr 1825 in Indien stationierte britische Offiziere das aus der Rinde des Chinarindenbaums gewonnen Chinin als Malariaprophylaxe eingesetzt haben. In Verbindung mit Zucker und Wasser kreierten sie ein einfaches Tonic Water, das später besonders gerne mit Gin gemischt wurde. Diese ursprünglichen Aromen hat East Imperial aufgespürt und herbe Tonic Waters geschaffen, die eine perfekte Grundlage für die komplexen Kräuter- und Gewürznoten von Gin bieten ohne dabei seine zarteren Aromen zu überdecken. East Imperial positioniert sich damit als Premiummarke, die besonders mit hochwertigen Spirituosen harmoniert. Ein trockenerer Gin & Tonic muss erst einmal erfunden werden. Den Kern des Sortiments bildet das authentische East Imperial Tonic Water, das von einem Rezept aus dem Jahre 1903 inspiriert wurde und in kleinen Chargen mit ausgesuchten und ausschließlich natürlichen Zutaten hergestellt wird. Charakteristisch sind die große Frische und die intensiven Bitternoten des Chinins. Die Zutaten kommen aus Asien und Ostafrika, beispielsweise stammt das Chinin von der indonesischen Insel Java, wo die Chinarindenbäume bis zur Ernte ganze sieben Jahre heranwachsen. Die Rinde muss vorsichtig von den Bäumen geschält und an der Luft getrocknet werden. Bevor sie weiterverarbeitet werden kann, wird die Rinde noch geräuchert.
