Pterosaurs May Have Had Brightly Colored Feathers, Exquisite Fossil from Brazil Reveals

An amazingly well-preserved fossil suggests the common ancestor of dinosaurs and pterosaurs also had some type of feather or feather precursor

Long before the first birds flapped and fluttered, pterosaurs took to the skies. These leathery-winged reptiles, their bodies coated with wispy filaments paleontologists call pycnofibers, were the first vertebrates to truly fly. Now experts are beginning to think pterosaurs and birds had more in common than previously assumed: An exquisitely preserved fossil from Brazil not only hints that pterosaurs’ peculiar filaments may have been true feathers but also suggests that this plumage could possibly have been as riotously colored as that of any modern toucan or tanager.

The fossil, described on Wednesday in a new study in Nature, is a pterosaur called Tupandactylus imperator that was found in the Early Cretaceous limestone of Brazil’s Crato Formation. “What is remarkable about this specimen—and very obvious when you look at it—is the fact that it preserves extensive soft tissues,” says study co-author Maria McNamara, a paleobiologist at University College Cork in Ireland.

This specimen has a vague and complicated history. It is unclear who found the fossil or when they did so, but it wound up in the hands of a private collector and was later given to the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences. At that point, paleontologist Edio-Ernst Kischlat “was then contacted to find an official agreement with Brazilian authorities and the Embassy of Brazil in Brussels,” says the new study’s lead author Aude Cincotta, now at the Belgian institute.In October 2021 the institute signed a deal with the Brazilian embassy to repatriate the fossil, and it arrived at Rio de Janeiro’s Museum of Earth Sciences in February of this year.

Whatever the story behind the pterosaur fossil, leaving private hands to a secure place in a museum allowed it to finally be described. Initially, McNamara says, she and her colleagues studied the specimen with an eye toward identifying the details of its remarkably clear soft tissues. The researchers were not necessarily looking for clues to color, she notes—but she says they were “delighted” to find such evidence in the form of microscopic structures called melanosomes.

Melanosomes’ shape and density, as well as their distribution in skin, feathers and other tissues, help create what biologists know as structural colors: hues that range from rust red to oil-slick iridescent and that are created by the way light interacts with the feathers. (These structures can only provide a partial picture of an animal’s coloration, however, because many shades are created chemically.) McNamara and her co-authors found different melanosome shapes in Tupandactylus’s skin and in two types of the fluffy, featherlike filament structures along its skull, implying the colors in each would have been different from one another.

It is pretty crazy that as I write this Hitman 2 Silent Assassin is nearly 20 years old! I remember the time this game was released it was a huge deal in the gaming world. The first Hitman game came out of nowhere and was a massive hit, so gamers were very excited to see what antics Agent 47 would be getting up to this time.

No Time To Rest Agent 47

The game is a direct sequel to the first Hitman game. Agent 47 is trying to live a quiet life and he wants to put his contract killing ways behind him. This all goes to hell when his friend is kidnapped and held for ransom. Agent 47 wants to help his friend, but also find out who is doing this, why and more about his strange existence. It is great stuff indeed and it worked wonders at fleshing out the lore the first game created.

Next-Gen Power

The leap from the first game to Hitman 2 Silent Assassin is pretty huge in terms of the game’s visuals. I know looking back not it might seem strange to fawn all over the visuals of the game. However, this was quite the looker for its time. The character models had a lot of detail to them, but it was the world that they created which was really impressive. From snow that actually looked like snow to rain bouncing off the floor. This was a very impressive looking game for its time and to be fair, it does not look all that bad now either.

As well as looking good, this game also sounds good too. Agent 47 sounds like a badass, but the whole game has some very stellar voice acting. As well as great voice acting. The sound design, in general, is awesome. This was a game when I played back on the original Xbox, I had connected to my surround sound as the bullet and gun sounds packed a real punch to them.

It Is Your Mission!

You can use disguises, get into prime positions, and learn the behavior of characters in order to complete your mission.

There is a lot of variety to the missions and I found that even playing the game on the normal difficulty was one hell of a challenge. You can use many different guns which is cool, but I wish this game had some great hand to hand combat to go along with the shooting. I will admit that by today's standards the controls are a bit rough, but after a short while, you do get used to them.

I was all in with this game back when it was first released. I feel that if you played Hitman 2 Silent Assassin back in the day, you will find that the game has held up pretty well. Those going into this for the first time may have a bit of trouble getting to grips with the gameplay which I will admit is a tad dated by today's standards. Overall, I enjoyed playing through this again and it brought back a lot of fun memories of this game when it first was released.

A Game Called Hitman Absolution

Agent-47, doing exactly what he is meant to do, be silent, be quick, be agile, and yes of course, be bald. But we wont be going to the bald part and will only stick with a little bit of game theme of agent 47 in ‘Absolution’.

The game play in NO way is easy. It is very interactive i play all my games de-facto at hard mode, but again this franchise was something that I was new at.

Yes I have not played any of the previous hitman games, it is a franchise of ‘Edios’ that has been around now for quite some time. The first Hitman came around in the early 2000′s I have not played any of them. In fact ‘absolution’ was amongst the more simpler ones if compared to the one’s that came in the early 2000′s. And I completed this one on a PS3 and not a PC.

A good game which has the ability to absorb your conscious and decision making, both shaping your mind and altering decisions as casted by the subconscious, that help’s you identify your modus in the said mission. That’s why games give you a rush that helps you focus better on your daily life. Life is all about decision making and so is every game.

So YES ‘Hitman- Absolution’ is a good game! One will only enjoy this game if he gets the fundamentals of the game right.

I am mostly an FPS and TPS gamer and stealth games are not really my forte. But i truly enjoyed being the Agent-47 because, it is a good game. The stealth game play is very good the character that has been made is something that I found to be sometimes funny because he is perfectly bald. But again the game play.

I initially used to stumble in the missions, I would not be as stealthy as the game would be expecting in the hard mode. I thought having guns is sufficient in executing the missions. And honestly they are not. It is the ‘FPS’ instincts that keep triggering me and I had to again get hold of them because you know, the subconscious is at work behind the umbra.

AND the best weapon of this game is a simple fiber thread.

The fiber thread helps you quickly choke the enemy and along with drag the body for a quick disposal. It is the perfect weapon for a quick stealthy silent kill under the trained hands of Agent-47.

The missions, the maps, the character placing, the sound effects, the textures, the gamma, the themes, the farms, the rooms, the alleys, the aisle, the stairs, the court room, everything exceedingly well thought of designed and detailed.

The stealth when added with silence if executed with a ‘good timing’ the ‘purist’ for this game would be in for a delight.

Hitman absolution was amongst the less liked one of the ‘Edios’ franchise and I am yet to play the new one on PS4 and soon I will surely play them someday because we at Deltatrack are all about absolute gaming and loving good games.

Gaming talk with Mari... IO interactive and Hitman.... and Deus ex...

So this was some wierd news i wasnt expecting this morning, IO interactive is splitting off from square enix... Now i havent been a super long time fan of Hitman, but i enjoyed absolution and really enjoyed my time with the newest Hitman episodic reboot-game-a-ma-thing. And i swear i thought i read Season 2 of Hitman was gonna be a thing... but if it is i guess IO isnt at the helm? This raises alot of questions about the future of Hitman and at this point the future of all of Eidos's IP's for me personally i dont doupt Tomb raider will continue but Deus Ex and Hitman seem to be in serious trouble which is worrisome. Deus Ex was finally heading in a good direction after Mankind Divided and i was really looking forward to seeing how the Jensen trilogy would end... then *yoink* square put it on ice and threw Edios montreal onto there upcoming Marvel games. Hitman as well seemed to have a bright future but obviously something went wrong maybe the disc version didnt sell well enough for them to greenlight season 2 in the end? Maybe Square wanted IO to make a marvel game but didnt want to so they requested a split? I dont know im spitballing here.... Honestly im not gonna hold up any hopes for more Hitman at this point from IO atleast... I really hope the company finds solid footing and is able to continue creating games like Hitman... In a perfect world i would love Bethesda to come in and give IO the chance to create the kind of game they want to make like Arkane and Dishonored, or Tango gameworks and Evil within. Shit at this point Bethesda... just buy the Deus ex and Hitman IP's have Arkane create a full on Deus ex reboot remake... and have IO conintue making Hitman.
