i feel like... the last time i was really impressed by a 3D """"live action"""" animated creature was maybe the dragon from the (otherwise mid) 2013 hobbit movie... or the tiger from life of pi... I genuinely can't tell if we were more easily impressed back then or not but even looking at a clip now they just look so much more fluid and had a really nice weight/gravity that just isn't depicted in a lot of big-budget recent movies anymore
#yes inspired by that new lilo and stich movie#which ive seen clips of but dont have an interest in watching#EDIT: shape of water fish man was cool#but i think that was practical effects with CGI layered on it
