So I found this amazing picrew and it needs so much love??? Like, I can't speak for the amount of POC representation, but I feel like it's much more inclusive than a lot I've seen. There's the option for a character to have a bindi, hijab, turbans, Star of David necklaces, cross necklaces, and the HAIR options! Also disability inclusivity with the option for adding hearing aids and a wheel chair?? I'm in love and I'm going to make so many of my OCs in this. OH AND THE BODIES! Fat bodies! Bodies that aren't just thin. And faces that have double chins. And clothes that fit them!

Djarn really needs so much credit for this maker. I'm gonna see if I can't find a place they post regularly and tag it/link it once I find it here!

I was going on in tags and I just realized I should make a new post about this. Please share if you're a visual artist.

So my friend theskee recommended this site, itaku.ee, for image hosting when I was looking to get out of artstation. I set up an account and started uploading art back in February or something. Went back through 2015 to basically the oldest stuff I felt proud of, just went ham on it. As of today I have 382 images on there.

It's a super streamlined system. You can make sub-galleries for all your art and organize to your heart's content. Tagging is a dream. The best part of the tags is you can edit them and add information, so there are tags designated for characters, for races, for copyright (i.e. the TV show or game they came from). There's even a way to make a tag for you as an artist, so everything I post is tagged #edibleflowers. You can upload one image or multiple images at a time. You can also favorite and comment on images. And you can link the images offsite if you want them on AO3 or wherever.

Here's the best part. The site is designed to be NSFW-friendly, so you can add a label (in fact, you have to) if the art is questionable or mature. So you never have to see NSFW art if you don't want to. You can flip that switch off, or you can set it to only show questionable content, or let your little heart run free and see everything. Because we're adults and we deserve spaces to be adults.

It's a free site, and I believe even the ads were recently removed because they weren't getting much use. Really, the only downside is that it doesn't get much traffic, but it makes for a great portfolio site to have everything in one place.

edited to add: this is probably far past containment, but I want to note that this post is in direct response to the change in Discord's image hosting policy and just before I made this, I rb'd something about that. Then I was going on about itaku in the tags and realized I should just make this post, which is why it starts off the way it does.

thank you so much!! i totally get what you mean by a list, that really is what diversity can feel like sometimes. my weight and figure have fluctuated so much over the years and i've gotten enough shit from family about eating habits and how chubby i've gotten, to the point of dysmorphia, and turning to art (and not to mention seeing the vast majority of fat butch rep) to remedy it has done wonders for my body image, and i'm really glad people like how i do things.

in terms of tips, as someone who went to school for this sorta thing, i'm gonna try to make this as accessible as possible aka free resources.

timed figure drawing!

legit, you gotta draw naked people posed in intricate ways. there's literally no avoiding it, you have to draw from life and not from tutorials. obv, i'm not saying go out and attend a life drawing course -- that's expensive shit -- so here's a few options:

i use a site called quickposes, since most figure drawing galleries require subscriptions.

you can set a timer for how long you want on each pose/reference. i recommend challenging yourself with shorter times as it helps you to get rid of any hang-ups about getting the anatomy exactly right. the drawing's got to get done by the end of the timer, don't focus on the details. just draw, be done with it, move on to the next drawing.

there's also a youtube channel that we'd use in class when a model couldn't show called new masters academy and they have a bunch of timed daily drawing exercises.

as a general rule, don't lean on the amount of time you have. what you're wanting to do is get a FULL PICTURE on your paper as soon as possible, regardless of a long or short time. get the full figure onto the paper then use the rest of the time to fuss over details, shading, editing, etc.

kinda similar to the last one but in the more time-consuming sense.

use pinterest. it has a lot of uses for a lot of things but i use it quite a bit for both anatomy refs and costume design inspiration. this is legit what my home page looks like now because of it.

here's a board i made on anatomy, pulling from different body types; obviously i get a little gay wid it, but there's a verrrryyyy clear lack of certain body types in a lot of body refs like muscular women, fat women, just overall people who higher fat content than the lean, almost 0% fat of the figures seen in most tutorials and galleries:

this is where pinterest really shines because you can find literally everything on it.

in particular, there's an account called character design references, that is basically a stockpile of references for artists. i wouldn't normally recommend artist tutorials when it comes to wanting to learn anatomy because it can get a little echo-chambery (side-eyes the male vs. female tutorials that float around on twitter all the time) but there are actually some boards that have genuine studies on the human form, even from a medical point of view.

LITERALLY JUST DRAW A LOT.

I CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH IT'S GONNA TAKE A LOT OF TIME AND PRACTICE TO GET TO A CERTAIN LEVEL OF SATISFACTION.

like that's it, full stop, draw often. if you're feeling rusty, go back to basics. if you're art blocked, go back to basics. if you're bored, go back to basics.

i only remember the day i made grimm and yarrow bc it was 4/20 and i thought it was funny anyways happy one year to these two fuckers eating away at my brain and here's to them continuing to do that for...the foreseeable future

since i have created So much about them in this year, i wanna recap what the fuck i've done bc i have never had this happen before. it's definitely new to hyperfixate on some ocs so intensely but i'm having a good time with everything so! i can't say i'm upset that these two kicked my ass into gear with drawing so much !!

starting off with the first sketches of them i scribbled down before i had to get back to work on other stuff bc i don't think i posted these

they've evolved a bit but....not by much really. esp in regards to yarrow i had what is more or less his current design nailed down within a day. not to mention that these two both had names within 24 hours? that usually does NOT happen for me

in terms of all the other art, th galleries aren't the absolute best metric to measure how much i've drawn my ocs bc it doesn't account for all the sketches and wips i have lying around and i upload gift art so it's not all mine in there NONETHELESS it's wild comparing their th gallery stats to the main trio of ttw bc those three literally have a decade of existence on them

(also grimm has five more standalone pieces of fanart than yarrow, so the gap between how much i've drawn the two of them is even smaller)

within a year, these two have, give or take, half the amount of stuff as i've managed to make for my other mains that have been around over a decade. ofc with ttw being around so long there are a lot of unfinished things, paper drawings i have stashed away, things that're retconned, and so many more sketchbook doodles of them that just never got posted so it's not as comparable to honeybee bc it's a more constant slowburn in my brain. but still. still

that's also not to mention the 16 or so full comic pages i've drawn for them?? (most of those are under toyhouse's literature bc it's easier to post them that way) which doesn't sound like a lot, but bc i've never done that before with any of my ocs it's. wild to me. i'm still figuring out a method that makes making comics as painless as possible bc i have ideas! but it still feels like i'm like pulling teeth sometimes! i can say it feels a bit easier to make comics now but i still have a lot to figure out :,,D

also i've been writing. i don't consider myself a writer. i said "fuck it we ball" and started writing. i guess i am on technicality, and it's not as if i haven't written anything at all (hi ttw and the old peartree draft), but definitely haven't written extensive prose before this. anyways i've got a 10k-word outline and am approximately 35k words into the first draft so it's not nothing! in fact that's a lot for me, esp bc i'm constantly battling the urge to edit things over and over and also the awareness of the skill gap between me and all of the writers i am constantly reading so it's overall just a...really slow process OTL

because i'm deranged and refuse to make things easy on myself, i envision honeybee as an illustrated novel, but not necessarily illustrated like fantasy novels are i'm talking like....a novel with comic panels in it. i have a vision. (also i had a dream where i read a book like this i can See it in my mind). it's fine. i'm normal. <if this comes to be for realsies i will have to learn how to do so much typesetting bullshit

- I think Zeus is definitely in terms of the Helen of Troy of it all—the Importance, the way she draws people to her, the being every woman ever and also just the one—rather than in terms of having a relationship to his domain. Also I could definitely see Lily going for him

- Aphrodite is, I think, kinda obvious, while Apollo comes around to the golden girl, the way light is always so relevant to Serena as a concept

- But I think that Hermes would be the most interesting and fucked up. She runs away from everything and she has no home. God of travelers baby <3 also Serena forever being surveilled and interpreted vs god of messengers

Nate:

- I do think it would be fucking hilarious to have her as a child of Ares. On the other hand, her form of War much more suits Athena—and Blair is um… really fucking smart? She loves her tactics and her cleverness

- Aphrodite because it’s fucked up (again) but in a different, more intense way—Blair wants to Be Enough to fool everyone into liking her at all times, and that means performing beauty. An Artist Beware

I don't do these very often, but this is something I feel warrants a warning because this is something that could, potentially, do real harm.

Without further ado

The user in question is a person named Zoffu. (Here and on Toyhouse, as well as YCH Commishes, and I think Instagram) I am going to explain what happened, and warn others from buying from them in the future.

It started with this whole fiasco. I won an auction on an adoptable that I saw a few times and liked. It was a cute design. I enjoyed the colors, but there were a couple things I would change if I won. The bidding was at $8 so I figured might as well. I was going to redraw it or have them do edits, because it had human feet on an anthro which I don't like. I personally prefer digitigrade feet, humanoid feet just look off on anthro characters.

They refused to sell an adoptable that I won the bidding on, and THEN accused me of being a zoophile to somebody else. Why? Because I gave a code to somebody for their friend. Guy said his name was Ethan, wasn't really into the adoptable scene that much, just liked looking at the creative character designs and art.

Of course I was happy to help! I love Toyhouse, and I love buying and selling adopts! I honestly wanted to find the person and give them some characters from my sales account once the invite was used, just to get them started, when they reached out to me and told me that Zoffu LITERALLY TOLD THEM I WAS A ZOOPHILE!!!!!!! That is not ok. That is in no way ok. Baseless accusations like that can really damage a person.

He said he wanted to ask me directly because that was a big accusation, and also said that he felt I was in the right to know that this person may have been going around saying that shit about me. I wouldn't know. The fucker blocked me over some petty bullshit.

They wanted to control what you have in your gallery. Their TOS said they "check their sold designs regularly" to "Make sure you aren't breaking their TOS" and it's like. Why does it matter? When you sell something to me, it stops belonging to you, and starts belonging to me. You can't control what I did with it. It's mine. I paid you. What's stopping somebody from reselling it in the future and me getting ahold of it?

Honestly, if they want to control what happens to designs they make so badly, maybe they just shouldn't make and sell designs.

ANYWAY. The reason for this beware is that the person accused me of being a zoophile, to another person, in a way where they could easily find me. They straight up just referred me to me as "A zoophile they blocked". False accusations are extremely damaging, because a LOT of people just believe everything at face value.

Be REALLY!!!! careful when getting anything from this artist. Extremely careful. Unless, of course, you want to be accused of being a zoophile and have that accusion spread to other people who may or may not have even a very thin connection to you!

House of the Dragon : Stills / Screen-cap Resources

Making this mostly for my discord as per usual, but some people have asked me where I get my files for edits. not tagging this with anything since the more people who know about these, the more they will be targeted for takedown...but i'd like other fans to enjoy them as much as i have, too.

Stills: [these are photographs taken during production rather than images pulled from footage, so they tend to be higher quality and have better lighting without the various filters]

Section of Randomess is amazing - free, no ads, great quality, easy to download, but does not update frequently.

Warner Brothers Media very well organized, search by episode, date, etc. all very official as they literally make the show. however these are intended for use in press releases, and you need to have a press account to download the files. still, you can look at all the previews.

MovieStillsDB updates very frequently, has the largest collection of images released by official sources spanning all the various international hbo media accounts. you do need an account to download, and credits, but the most "expensive" credit packages still come out to less than 10c per a photo.

Kinorium this kind of has everything in one place which is nice, but the quality is lower. i usually use it to find an image i like, then right click and 'search image in google' to find a higher resolution version. stills gallery [kinorium]

Stock photo websites i am CHEAP and these are EXPENSIVE so i don't have a lot to say about them, but the big ones like shutterstock and almay usually have a selection of high resolution images too.

Cinematerial i think this is the sister site to moviestills, similarly you can browse everything but need credits to download, and they have the same pricing system. still it's pretty great because they have every variant of each poster including international ones, and they offer very high resolution copies.

Screencaps: images pulled ['captured'] from the episodes

there are probably dozens or even hundreds of sites with screencaps, but my favorites have been these two

Cap-That very thorough caps from every episode that can be viewed and downloaded individually in 4K, or downloaded in zips for each episode in standard HD.

and i do mean very thorough. each episode has on average four thousand images.

comparatively the zips from another site [lostintimegraphics] have about one thousand images per an episode.

what makes them "special" in addition to few ads (comparatively) is that they brighten the thumbnails on each page, a MUST to see wtf is going on in some parts, given how dark the show is.

when you click on the thumbnail and download the file, it is unfiltered/as appears in show, it just makes it easier to find the file you want instead of wading through a sea of black thumbnails.

So-Obsessed i think this is managed by a single person and i give them MAJOR props for that. they not only have 4k screencaps of HotD, but also every episode of Game of Thrones.

they are sorted by episode, there is no download a zip option, only individual files. they also have a stills gallery. there are no ads, which is wonderful.

the only reason i prefer cap-that is because they have 3x times the number of images for each page. despite both sites being comparably thorough, on so-obsessed there are 120 pages for episode two, and on cap-that there are 40.

you also can't right click/open in new tab/download images, you have to use their toolbar. it's well designed, just slower for me who is accustomed to the other method.

ok, am done. if you're wondering why the fuck anyone would want screencaps or stills, personally *i* like using them for edits to entertain me in the offseason, see here.

Movie Review | The Big Racket (Castellari, 1976)

I’m no expert on poliziotteschi, but from the handful I’ve seen, it strikes me that they have no shortage of queasy morality and gleeful cruelty. My favourites would be The Italian Connection, in which a sleazy, two-bit pimp played by Mario Adorf (doing his own stunts and looking like he might die of a heart attack in the process) ends up being our hero, and The Tough Ones AKA Rome, Armed to the Teeth, which plays as an almost free-associative series of cop vs crook violence, Maurizio Merli and Tomas Milian trying to outdo each other in sadism as the movie escalates. This one, the second in the genre directed by Enzo G. Castellari that I’ve seen (after The Heroin Busters, with which this shares some terrific action direction), has its share of cruelty as well, largely meted out by a group of truly loathsome villains. We first meet them during the opening sequence, where they’re geared up in fearsome helmets as they mete out some pretty excessive property damage. The aesthetic choices here, between their wardrobe, the eerie red and yellow lighting, the slow motion and the blaring prog rock freakout on the soundtrack courtesy of Guido and Maurizio De Angelis (whose work here sometimes resembles a wilder and woollier version of “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida”), suggest that this a newer, more vicious breed of criminal, totally beyond the pale of ordinary criminality.

And certainly, they make good on that promise, graduating pretty quickly from property damage to actual violence, sexual assault, murder and the works. A lot of this is relished by Castellari, starting with a great shot where the hero is trapped in a car that’s rolled over by the villains, the camera’s view spinning along with the body of the car as the hero gets roughed up inside. One scene of sexual violence is particularly ugly, but another earlier in the movie is handled with a bit of tact, conveyed with a somewhat touching and elegant shot of the camera refocusing to suggest the span from the victim’s rape to the discovery of her corpse by her father.

Now, with criminals this vicious, you’re gonna need a hero willing to go the limit, and we get that with Fabio Testi, towering over many of the other cast members as if his height correlates to his moral certitude. You’re not gonna get a nuanced view of police accountability in this genre, but to the movie’s credit, Testi is shown to be compassionate towards the victims and even tries to work with a relatively harmless criminal played by Vincent Gardenia to bust the criminals through less forceful means. At one point the villains disguise themselves as Marxists to stir up trouble, which probably betrays the movie’s politics, but it does try to mitigate this, with Testi insisting that these criminals have nothing to do with real leftist politics. And another scene where they incite mob violence against Gardenia’s son arguably positions their criminality as a social problem. So I didn’t find this as noxious as it could have been.

But ultimately, Testi has to go beyond the law and recruit a team, most of whom have been impacted by the villains personally, to take them out once and for all. And the gunplay here, both in a vicious train station shootout and the shooting gallery warehouse climax, is thunderous in its impact. The echoing of the rifle shots, the sometimes bruising editing, the sheer loudness of the gunfire (the violence feels as much sonic as physical), the liberal use of squibs combine to give every shot fired an entire movie’s worth of rage.

Alpha CC or MaxisMatch? I'm not a big alpha fan. I do have some alpha CC, but I'd say I'm 97% Maxis-match.

Do you cheat your sims weight? No, but they never really seem to change their weight, so.... ???

Do you use move objects? Absolutely! I do a lot of building and it's practically essential for building

Favourite Mod? MC Command Center. I don't actually have that many mods in my game, and I could live without most of them, but MCCC is too useful to play without at this point.

First Expansion/Game Pack/Stuff Pack? Get To Work (EP), Outdoor Retreat (GP), and I forget which stuff pack I got first. It was either Spooky Stuff or Backyard Stuff.

Do you pronounce live mode like aLIVE or LIVing? I pronounce it like "LIVing"

Who's your favourite sim that you've made? As a character, definitely Victor Nelson, but in terms of aesthetic/attractiveness (to me) I'll say Eden Seong, and Prince Makai.

Favourite EA hair? For both males and females, I really like the wavy hair that's tucked up in back, with wisps at the sides, that came with Eco Lifestyle.

Favourite life stage? Young Adult or Adult, simply because the majority of interactions and opportunities in the game are geared toward them. I'm starting to appreciate children a bit more, though they still leave much to be desired in terms of gameplay.

Are you a builder or are you in it for the gameplay? I would definitely consider myself a builder, although it's certainly not the only thing I do with the game.

What’s your favourite game? Unpopular opinion, but my favourite iteration of the game is actually Sims 4 (and I've played every version; original, 2, 3 and 4)

Do you have any sims merch? lol no, although I do kind of want to get this coffee mug.

How has your « sims style » changed throughout your years of playing? I'm not sure my actual "style" has changed, but I do think my sims look better than they did when I didn't use skin details and non-default eyes. Plus, with practice, I've learned to create better faces.

I sure am glad I don't run an art gallery website

That would be frustrating and stressful, if only dealing with all the obsessive assholes that don't like being told no.

Between the sort of asshole that runs around snapping photos of random peoples feet and uploading them into photography categories, the obsessive psychos that just poorly edit photos to add stink lines and fart noises to masturbate over it, the weirdos that just recolor Sonic the Hedgehog sprites to go, "DIS MY OC PLZ DONUT STEEL", the sparkledogs that either intentionally steal someone elses character or DON'T and it's impossible to tell because sparkledogs can unintentionally just be all the same and the obsessive drama that creates, it'd be a nightmare to moderate just on a social level.

To say nothing of the investment involved to just hold the gigs upon gigs of uploads. And then you got the people that feel the need to snap multi megabyte sized photographs of their toys and shit and upload TWENTY GOD DAMNED COPIES of the SAME PHOTOGRAPH from only a very slightly different angle or perspective with no real change. Space costs money.

So art gallery websites are labors of love that COST money to run and, honestly, that just wouldn't be worth it to me without the ability to be a petty assed tyrant and tell shitty people to fuck off and that they aren't welcome to use the website outside its intended function. But even that ability goes away if you get enough dedicated trolls, who can make a moderator's life a living hell.

I think if I ran an art site, it'd be one where you need to authenticate yourself in real life for accountablity and perhaps even pay a fee per amount of megabytes/gigabytes you use- the fee wouldn't be monthly, it'd go towards external storage for hosting, since it'd offer the convenience of an internet gallery accessible online linking and hosting. Only makes sense if you want to invest in that, you'd have it linked to the number of hard drives your uploads use and then some (so there's surplus/profit to further invest)

And if you act the fool, you've already PAID in advance so it's kind of like a bullshit deposit; you can always opt in again but to troll you have to have already made dealing with you worth the money. If someone is forced to put $100 up front for every spam account, then using sock monkey bots to spam people with advertisements gets costly, quickly, before they go on a spamming spree and get reported/fucking blammo'd, that'd be an even trade, I feel. Worth the cost of hiring people to patrol that full time.

unfortunately this idea for an art gallery website model is probably too much of a buzzkill for artists, or audiences, and tyrannical for most peoples tastes. God forbid someone make a profit in the art world for a service that isn't the artist alone. Even if it just goes back into the service to reach wider audiences.

My work should not be reposted anywhere without my permission. → Reblogging directly from me here on Tumblr, retweeting directly from me on Twitter, and directly sharing my work in Instagram stories are not considered "reposting."
