My first anatomy tutorial. How I connect arms to the torso. Simplified the muscles for better comprehension
PS. Pectoral is misspelled as “pectorial” in the picture. Don’t make that mistake haha
And I’d love to see the art made from using these as reference, you can message or tag me.. whatever you want
Edit: The extended names of the muscles:
Neck - Sternocleidomastoideus
Traps - Trapezius
Lats - Latissimus Dorsi

Art Tip #3 - Quick Anatomy Tips
Anatomy is something a lot of us artists loath to learn and cry to master. As someone who dedicated a good amount of time trying to master it, I understand. Luckily for you fellow artists, I am here to enlighten you.
On this art stop, I will be giving some quick tips on how to pull off anatomy!
Drawn References:

Of course, anatomy isn't something one can master instantaneously. With proper application of these techniques and a lot of patience, you'll learn every bone, muscle, and tissue in the human body in no time!
(And be sure to keep your own anatomy in check, aka your posture, you shrimp)

Hello, I hope you are well and that you are having a good day. If you are not having a good day, I hope tomorrow is better (• ▽ •;)
I love your art, it is very beautiful, maybe you have already been asked this but what Tips do you give to be able to draw muscular bodies? (;ŏ﹏ŏ)
Hello Anon! (★‿★)
Okay, so, for real: When learning anatomy or muscular bodies,
👏LEARN 👏ANATOMY
This is what I do: Search on Pinterest "Hot men" "Muscle men" "Chest muscles" "abs drawing" "handsome men" "Muscle women" "Muscle mommy" IT SOUNDS DISGUSTING but fr, just search it and then you're gonna have TONS and TONS of reference of muscles.
Step 2 : Trace it. Yep, trace it. After that, try to copy the muscle references on another paper. Draw an exact copy of that reference, then compare them. Is it the same? What's different? What makes it different?
In this process usually I'd be curious, like "What muscle is this???" and then you need to learn the locations, the names, what muscles forms what. It takes a loooooot of time, but once you get the hang of it, it'll be automatic.
TL;DR : Search hot men/hot women on internet, draw that. (I'm serious). It's not an overnight practice you do it once and then you're a master noooooo nononono It took me YEARS. So keep on practicing, keep on drawing!

reminder for when you’re drawing expressions that the nostrils flare a bit after about 3 seconds of smiling ✨

Autumn nose reveal lmao
also as you can see, the lips tend to thin when smiling or otherwise being stretched out

New character's really cute and love seeing your muscle girls. I could never figure out how to draw female muscles to my satisfaction 😭 any tips? (Rhea)
You know what helped me? Start by drawing the shape of the character's body and don't hold your brain hostage with thoughts of making the shape 'feminine'.
Tumblr media
...and do I basically mean "don't draw boobs?" Yeah, kinda! Boobs love to get in the way when it comes to stuff they hang out in front of... But also, don't hold back because the figure you're rendering is starting to look too masc. Male and female muscle/skeletal structure is surprisingly similar, on an anatomical level. Once you get that, you'll feel those shackles of "girl muscles versus boy muscles" falling away, and you can make some very interesting characters with exciting new body shapes you were afraid to try, before. :) Hope this helps!

I follow you on twitter & all I gotta say is, I love the diversity in your drawings so much, I hate when people make girls all stereotypes & your art makes me feel so comfortable it’s like a warm feeling not to mention your nsfw art. It doesn’t just show the list it shows the love & affection each character has for eachother it shows how intimate & hot the moment can be but also sweet? I’m not sure I love your art too much it really makes my day to see it, but any tips on anatomy?♥️
thank you so much!! i totally get what you mean by a list, that really is what diversity can feel like sometimes. my weight and figure have fluctuated so much over the years and i've gotten enough shit from family about eating habits and how chubby i've gotten, to the point of dysmorphia, and turning to art (and not to mention seeing the vast majority of fat butch rep) to remedy it has done wonders for my body image, and i'm really glad people like how i do things.
in terms of tips, as someone who went to school for this sorta thing, i'm gonna try to make this as accessible as possible aka free resources.
timed figure drawing!
legit, you gotta draw naked people posed in intricate ways. there's literally no avoiding it, you have to draw from life and not from tutorials. obv, i'm not saying go out and attend a life drawing course -- that's expensive shit -- so here's a few options:
i use a site called quickposes, since most figure drawing galleries require subscriptions.
Tumblr media
you can set a timer for how long you want on each pose/reference. i recommend challenging yourself with shorter times as it helps you to get rid of any hang-ups about getting the anatomy exactly right. the drawing's got to get done by the end of the timer, don't focus on the details. just draw, be done with it, move on to the next drawing.
there's also a youtube channel that we'd use in class when a model couldn't show called new masters academy and they have a bunch of timed daily drawing exercises.
Tumblr media
as a general rule, don't lean on the amount of time you have. what you're wanting to do is get a FULL PICTURE on your paper as soon as possible, regardless of a long or short time. get the full figure onto the paper then use the rest of the time to fuss over details, shading, editing, etc.
do studies!
kinda similar to the last one but in the more time-consuming sense.
use pinterest. it has a lot of uses for a lot of things but i use it quite a bit for both anatomy refs and costume design inspiration. this is legit what my home page looks like now because of it.
Tumblr media
here's a board i made on anatomy, pulling from different body types; obviously i get a little gay wid it, but there's a verrrryyyy clear lack of certain body types in a lot of body refs like muscular women, fat women, just overall people who higher fat content than the lean, almost 0% fat of the figures seen in most tutorials and galleries:
Tumblr media
this is where pinterest really shines because you can find literally everything on it.
in particular, there's an account called character design references, that is basically a stockpile of references for artists. i wouldn't normally recommend artist tutorials when it comes to wanting to learn anatomy because it can get a little echo-chambery (side-eyes the male vs. female tutorials that float around on twitter all the time) but there are actually some boards that have genuine studies on the human form, even from a medical point of view.
LITERALLY JUST DRAW A LOT.
I CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH IT'S GONNA TAKE A LOT OF TIME AND PRACTICE TO GET TO A CERTAIN LEVEL OF SATISFACTION.
like that's it, full stop, draw often. if you're feeling rusty, go back to basics. if you're art blocked, go back to basics. if you're bored, go back to basics.

can you share some of the refs you use for your art? specifically the anatomy ones
I really use whatever I can find! I also tend to play around with my pose that kind of differentistes from the actual reference sometimes as well. I also sometimes frankenstein poses if im having a hard time with BS'ing the pose from the ref too.
Rennaissance paintings and other painting similar to them are also really helpful when trying to make accurate anatomy poses and stuff too! I also recently started taking pictures of myself to get a quick ref instead of searching online for one.
I also recommend looking at music videos and scenes from movies and screenshot poses you like rather then finding an already set up pose picture! sometimes those are too stiff but in music videos and movie clips theres much more movement so their poses feel more fluid!
Practicing different bodytypes help a lot too! I find myself being able to draw anatomy much better when I learned multiple types of body shapes bc it made it easier for me too understand that ppls bodies are very different and all you need to do is take away any strict rules about the body and build the pose and character without those limitations!
Another thing that helped me with anatomy is tracing!! Whether its poses or other art it helps A LOT! Especially if your having trouble with stuff. Honestly the way I got best at anatomy is from tracing and being more open minded about bodies and their individuality. For me I got really good at building fat on to a body when I learned how to properly draw muscular figures! Not sure why but it helped!!!
Examples:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
^^^Love this sheet bc it shows so many different bodies, shapes, and sizes! You can easily find bigger/better pictures on google of you search "olympic athlete(s) bodies"
I also sometimes use those 3d models in clip studio, but thats a rarity, others use them a lot tho.
I also simply BS poses and body types until im satisfied, I do just NOT use references a lot of the times bc sometimes I just need to do my own thing without a blueprint. And a lot of the time it turns out good!! Trust ur gut and ur eyes bruv GYVBHJNK
