you know how sometimes, trauma takes a while to set in? like, you can't fully process what happened to you, until you're safe?

I give you: five months after the end of S2, where everyone lived and Ed, Stede and Izzy all retired together to be innkeepers, Izzy finally starts having nightmares of Ed pinning him down and mutilating him in the night.

Only everything's fine now. They've made up. The three of them are together. Ed's genuinely apologised and changed and is Working On Himself, etcetera.

Izzy shouldn't be having these dreams. He's ruining everything. He's dwelling in the past. Didn't he tell Lucius that it's better to move on? Fuck, Ed's been doing so well, starting to genuinely trust that he isn't irredeemable or unlovable or a monster, and that though he chose to do bad things, he can also choose to do good ones. What if this sets him back? What if this makes him spiral into self-loathing again, all because Izzy can't keep a fucking handle on his literal PTSD pathetic sentiments?

Izzy can't ruin what they have again. He won't.

Obviously, the answer is to start pulling away from Stede and Ed and sleep separately from them in a desperate attempt to hide this.

Obviously, Ed and Stede aren't going to let him.

I think Crowley should take a leaf from Ed Teach's book and spend the first episode of Good Omens S3 having an absolutely next-level hot girl meltdown.

At the end of E8, Izzy is desperately trying to cling on to life. Of course he is. Ed is crying over him and begging him not to go, and who is Izzy if he doesn't follow his captain's orders? He's fighting like he always fights - furious, single-minded, desperate even against impossible odds. He's telling Ed it's okay, he's not going to leave him. Telling him Izzy doesn't blame Ed for hurting him, that it was all Izzy's fault. That everything's gonna be okay and Izzy's gonna be fine and Ed doesn't have to worry or feel guilty or upset, and he has a new family now in the crew (who can't even look at Ed, half the time).

But he's obviously in horrific pain and fatally wounded, and is just saying all this to try and comfort Ed.

And Ed realises this.

He wipes his face, draws himself up, and uses his last moments to comfort Izzy rather than the other way around. He tells Izzy it's okay, Ed will be okay. He's going to work harder on making healthy connections and finding a family. He'll look after the crew, and won't ever let himself go off the rails with violence again - Ed promises that from now on, he'll protect Izzy's family with his life, like Izzy did. Izzy wasn't to blame for how Ed hurt all of them - no, shh, don't talk. Just rest. Ed understands, now, and he's sorry. Ed's gonna do better, for him, and Izzy doesn't need to worry about him anymore, okay? Izzy can finally just relax and rest, knowing Ed and the crew are safe. It's okay for him to stop working, stop worrying, stop hurting. It's okay. Ed loves him, they all love him, they love him so much -

He's still whispering to him, clinging to him, rocking him gently against his chest, long after Izzy's bloody hand falls limp where it's tangled in his hair.
