An intuitive piece of hardware is collecting days’ worth of renewable energy from airplane engine exhaust before take-off from a Dallas airport.

“Boarding is completed” is a common refrain heard over the intercom system in the moments before taxiing to the runway.

At that moment, the pilot will begin a series of engine tests and pre-flight checks during which time the turbine engines are idling with their ferocious noise and exhaust fumes.

A company called JetWind has realized that all that idling force is like the strong winds needed to power a wind turbine, and has built a series of pods that can capture it during the 5-10 minutes the aircraft is sitting at the gate waiting for clearance to taxi.

“The main goal of our project is to harness the consistent wind created by jets and convert it into an eco-friendly energy source,” JetWind’s founder and president Dr. T. O. Souryal told Interesting Engineering.

“What was once considered wasted energy can now benefit energy grids, ultimately promoting smarter and more sustainable infrastructure across the globe.”

Three years of testing between 2021 and 2024 have informed the official deployment of JetWind’s flagship product at Dallas Love Field airport. 13 sets of pods will sit beneath the gate hooked up to external batteries that connect to the grid the airport uses. Solar panels add to the energy generation, and the whole set can create about 30 kilowatt-hours of renewable energy, enough to power a family home for a few days.

While on its own it isn’t nearly what the average airport will consume during a day of operations, when combined with 12 other systems just like it, it can make a serious difference in reducing the carbon footprint of the building.

“Dallas Love Field has always been a hub of progress, and the introduction of JetWind’s Energy Capturing Pods reinforces its position as a testing ground for innovative technologies,” said former Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert.

“By converting man-made wind into energy, we are highlighting Dallas as a leader in sustainable solutions and proving that cities can take significant steps toward tackling global energy challenges.”

The debut of the JetWind pods at Love Field has attracted attention from around the globe, including companies and governments from Switzerland, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Ecuador, the UK, France, and Australia.

remembering at my last job how my supervisor overheard me telling a coworker "yeah, i try to be on time to things, but i think as a person i just chronically run 2-7 minutes late, so knowing that's a weakness of mine i try to do my best wherever i am to make up for that."

and immediately narced on me to our "if you're not 10 minutes early you're late" sociopathic tyrant of a branch manager, but only the first part. so he pulls me into his office to give me a smug condescending lecture about how "if that's the way you think, you're never gonna succeed in life because there's no industry on the face of this earth where that attitude is acceptable"

fast forward to my current job, where my scheduling & pay system is basically "you will get paid X number of hours to complete this task, regardless of how long that task takes you" and as long as the task gets done within the allotted number of hours? literally nobody gives a fuuuuuck about anything. i try not to, but i regularly roll up 5-10 minutes late and nobody's said anything to me about it in the 7 months i've been here. if i know i'm gonna be more than 10 minutes late i'll text my supervisor a heads up, and the response is always "but you're still coming in, yeah? no worries see you whenever"

Okay. We all clown Edgeworth for having logic as his special power. But! Kay implies that whenever Edgeworth uses the logic system, there is an audible sound. The chess pieces also pretty much fullfil the same function as the Psyche-Locks.

So I fully propose that Edgeworth is actually capable of fully forming psychic links of some sort and it gives him the opportunity to tackle the investigation much more efficiently than others. Sometimes I remember how much makeup some women and girls own (no judgement, you do you, I just seems overwhelming to me 🤭)

I have two different shades of lipstick.

A lighter pinker colour and a darker more red colour. (I also have brown eyeliner and mascara)

But guess what, it's also my blush, it's also my eyeshadow. ☺️

(I place as few or as many dabs of the lipstick where you'd usually place your blush and dab it out with a puff/sponge)

(I dab a little lipstick on the outer corner of the eyelid and dab it in further with a little puff/sponge)

I just saved so much space and clutter with that!!!

Lipsticks are a lot less bulky than a eyeshadow and blush.

It's easy, simple, and saves money.

Plus the colour always matches nicely, because it's literally the same colour so it looks more natural in my opinion as well

(especially the lighter colour. This obviously might be different for people of different skin tones and if you're using a cooler or warmer tone)

I'm like... 99% sure the 'shadow' in arkham shadow is referencing the jungian shadow archetype... and thinking about jung in the DC context always makes me overthink because in that universe jung was just correct. That's how magic works in DC lot of the time. People are always fucking with the collective unconscious. (or unconsciouses since like. plants etc got one...) you can hijack or erase a person from the narrative by fucking with the archetype they embody etc... Pretty sure in DC universe if you get too into jung you just learn to do magic

Decluttering my clothes. Seems to be going ok. I am trying to get rid of 10% or more from each category. Saved in some cases by finding I still had clothes about 4 sizes too small I could get rid of. Hardest so far was socks. Even though I discovered I had 60 pairs of socks - confused by this because it looks like 20 maybe but counted and it's 60 - I found it extremely difficult to find 6 pairs to get rid of. Luckily 3 pairs were too tight at the top, and 2 pairs are specifically for wearing with slip on ballet slippers type shoes that I don't actually like.

I'm starting by seperating the clothes that "spark joy" then seeing if I need to keep more for necessity's sake, or remove more for the sake of having space in my drawers. We have not a lot of storage space and I love clothes and fabric so this is a problem.

No matter how I consider the problem, if you don't have enough space for all the things, and you aren't going to move things to a different space, the only solution is to have less things. I've examined the problem from every angle and unfortunately this appears to be the truth.
