why is no one hiring me as a business consultant honestly, for as little as 5000 dollars an hour i could sit in a fancy boardroom and offer such gems of wisdom as “actually, the vast majority of teams are perfectly capable of running themselves without the assistance of a manager. if you want to save roughly a fuckbillion dollars, you could fire 90% of your middle managers and tell the teams directly what you want them to get done, and you’d end up with more efficient, productive, and happier workers basically guaranteed. they’d do more work for cheaper and thank you for it, and you’d save enough money to give both them and yourself a tidy raise. i understand if this brilliant strategy is overwhelming you with the desire to suck my strap, but unfortunately i do not fuck billionaires. i will accept a new car as a tip”

The thing about the takeover of key US government institutions by the world’s richest man and his strike force of former interns is that it’s happening so fast.
It’s been three weeks since Elon Musk’s agents took over the government’s IT and HR departments. Since then, the movements of his so-called Department of Government Efficiency have had the cartography of a horror movie, DOGE picking off agencies one by one based on slasher logic, feeding an unslakeable thirst for cost-cutting and data.
Every day brings fresh incursions. Three weeks ago the United States believed in humanitarian aid. It helped people who had been ripped off by big corporations. It funded the infrastructure necessary to make America a beacon of scientific innovation. Now the United States Agency for International Development is gutted, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is on ice, and National Institutes of Health grants are handcuffed. So much for all that.
These are spreadsheet cruelties, executed with a click. The loss of real peoples’ jobs and lives—yes, despite what X-famous conspiracy theorists will tell you, USAID saved lives—all immaterial compared to the pursuit of a tighter balance sheet.
Three weeks ago, a 19-year-old who calls himself “Big Balls” online didn’t have access to government personnel records and more. A 25-year-old with a closet full of racist tweets hadn’t gotten the keys to Treasury systems that pay out $5.45 trillion each year. Elon Musk hadn’t turned the Oval Office into a romper room for his 4-year-old son.
The speed is strategy, of course, flooding the zone so that neither the media nor the courts can keep pace. Lawsuits and court orders move on a different timescale than this slash-and-burn approach. (At this pace, DOGE will have tapped into every last government server long before the Supreme Court even has a chance to weigh in.) But it’s also reflexive. The first order of business in a corporate takeover is to slash costs as quickly as possible. If you can’t fire people, offer them buyouts. If they won’t take the buyouts, find a way to fire them anyway. Keep cutting until you hit bone.
This is how you get an executive order declaring that “each agency hire no more than one employee for every four employees that depart,” an arbitrary ratio with no regard for actual staffing needs. It’s how you get hundreds of federal government buildings on the auction block no matter how fully occupied they are. It’s both extreme and ill-considered, a race to empty the town’s only well.
And then … what? This is the question that Elon Musk and DOGE have failed to answer, because there is no answer. Does the United States government need to become a profit engine? To return shareholder value? Does Medicaid need to demonstrate a product-market fit in time for the next funding round?
This is consultant logic. This is an engineering sprint whose inevitable finish line is the unwinding of the social contract. Democracy doesn’t die in darkness after all; it dies in JIRA tickets filed by Palantir alums.
It’s somehow even worse than that, though. Suppose you take this whole enterprise at face value, that the United States should go through the private equity ringer. It does not take a Stanford MBA to know that cutting expenses only helps half of your profit and loss statement. Any serious attempt to treat the US like a business would involve increasing revenues. So where are the taxes? And why demolish the CFPB, which has paid out over $20 billion to US citizens—shareholders, if you will—through its enforcement actions?
In the coming weeks and months, as this farce continues to unfurl, remember that the goal of most acquisitions is not to benefit the acquired. It is to either subsume or discard, whichever generates the highest return.
Elon Musk’s unprecedented influence over the executive branch will ultimately benefit Elon Musk. The employees in charge are his employees. The data DOGE collects, the procurement contracts they oversee, it all flows up to him.
And it’s flowing too quickly to keep up with, much less to stop.

Mass layoffs have begun at several US agencies as Donald Trump and Elon Musk launch an unprecedented, large-scale plan to slash the federal workforce with the stated goal of cutting costs and boosting efficiency. Termination notices were sent to employees at the Department of Education, the Small Business Administration (SBA), the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), and the General Services Administration (GSA), Reuters first reported on Thursday. “The Agency finds that you are not fit for continued employment because your ability, knowledge and skills do not fit the current needs, and your performance has not been adequate to justify further employment with the Agency,” according to letters sent to at least 45 probationary employees at the SBA. Similar notices were sent to about 100 recent hires at the GSA on Wednesday and 160 employees at the education department, Reuters reported. The latest round of layoffs came as Musk said on Thursday that the US should “delete entire agencies” from the federal government as a part of his extraordinary strategy under the Trump administration. Musk made the latest suggestion on a video call to the World Governments Summit in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, in response to a question about what changes he planned to execute under Donald Trump’s direction. “I think we do need to delete entire agencies, as opposed to leave part of them behind,” said Musk, adding: “If you don’t remove the roots of the weed, then it’s easy for the weed to grow back. But if you remove the roots of the weed, it doesn’t stop weeds from ever going back, but it makes it harder.” Musk’s appearance at the summit comes as his so-called “department of government efficiency” (Doge) has implemented widespread cuts across the federal government, firing people and demanding resignations and layoffs. Since 20 January, when Trump was inaugurated as the 47th president, Musk and the controversial agency have swiftly gutted several US agencies, including the US Agency for International Development (USAid). The agency has carried out humanitarian and development projects abroad to save lives and also to exert “soft power”, since the agency was created by the Kennedy administration.

[Ashen in his historical verse is a very morally grey character, though he's considerably tamed by his priesthood.
He was born in a wealthy and powerful family, their first heir, and he was expected to take up those reins and grow their influence. As the King's marshal, there were only three people above him, including the King. That kind of power does not come for free. He knew his way around politics, and he had no shame using blackmail, threats, and the hire of mercenaries besides his regular fiefdom army if it furthered his goals.
His military skill was a political tool, too, to impress the King and make him entrust his cavalry to him. Ashen was lucky to be especially gifted in military strategy and winning a battle against the odds, but he was also a ruthless war lord. He believed that a battle was best won before it even started, and that instilling fear in the enemy was likely to make them surrender just then. Chivalry was for nobles, not his infantry; he had no qualm allowing them to use especially brutal and inhumane weapons and to take no prisoner, even noblemen, should it come to that. The few prisoners that were taken met an unfortunate fate at the hand of Ashen's officers, instructed to torture information out of them on enemy movement and plans.
It was efficient. His number of victories was staggering and he rose through the ranks to the very top. His name was feared by both French and English noblemen and he crushed the lesser nobility under his heel should they hope to equal his station.
Until Ashen got the same treatment as he had given others.
His companion, Lord Draseth, fellow cavalry commander, was killed by the French right then and there on the battlefield, even though a nobleman like him should have been taken for ransom. Ashen's moral code had been blind or non-existent until then, when he felt his violence sting him back in the cruelest way possible.
Interpreting it as God's wrath (though for his homosexuality rather than his unfair treatment of others, ironically; it would have been more shocking than the latter for a medieval man), Ashen eventually retired from the battlefield and joined the priesthood, though a lingering feeling of guilt makes him feel that no amount of Pater Noster will salvage his soul.]

Acedramon. Level: Rookie/Child, Attribute: Virus, Field: Dragon's Roar. Acedramon are physically weak, but they are excellent pilots who can often be found within the cockpits of vehicle Digimon like Mekanorimon or Blimpmon. It has a keen analytical mind for devising strategy on the fly. Acedramon serve as mercenaries and will cut and run from a losing battle. Its moves are biting the foe (Little Fang) and spitting acid at a target (Caustic Spit).

Acedramon evolves to Gatlingdramon. Level: Champion/Adult, Attribute: Virus, Field: Dragon's Roar, Metal Empire. Gatlingdramon has been retrofitted as a cyborg to increase its combat efficiency at the cost of any non-combat abilities. It can flay at mach 3 with its jetpack and metal wings and will unleash a hail of bullets on targets bellow with the gatling guns on its arms. Gatlingdramon is a mercenary who can be found on battlefields across the Digital World. Its special moves are unleashing a storm of bullets on targets from above (Bulletstorm) and mauling the target with its fangs, claws, and razor-sharp wings (Slicing Slayer).

Gatlingdramon evolves to Raildramon. Level: Ultimate/Perfect, Attribute: Virus, Field: Dragon's Roar, Metal Empire. Having been further upgraded with cybernetic enhancements, Raildramon is a terrifying force of destruction that can change the outcome of any battle it participates in. Its body is built around a single railgun that stretcheds from tail to head and uses electromagnets to accelerate a projectile to hypersonic speeds. A single shot from this railgun can reduce a mountain to rubble and magma. Raildramon is a mercenary that offers its services around the Digital World and is frequently hired by the D-Brigade. Its moves are splitting its body in half lengthwise and launching a projectile with its railgun (Rail Blaster) and Slamming it's reinforced body into the target before attacking with fangs and claws (Dragon Collider).

Raildramon evolves to Bombardramon. Level: Mega/Ultimate, Attribute: Virus, Field: Dragon's Roar, Metal Empire. Almost nothing remains of its original body, which has been upgraded into the ultimate weapon of war. The center of its body is a generator that powers the plasma conductors throughout its body. It flies near the edge of the atmosphere and unleashes missiles and electromagnetically-accelerated jets of plasma from its twin arm-mounted Arroz Blanco plasma cannons, built for it by Volcanusmon. Bombardramon can single-handedly change the course of wars that can decide the fate of the Digital World. Rumors are that the Three Great Angels have it hired not because they approve of its actions, but because they can't risk the forces of the Dark Area using it against them. Bombardramon's special moves are firing plasma jets from its Arroz Blanco cannons with enough force to destroy whole landscapes (Plasma Annihilator) and reducing the foe to ashes in close combat with the plasma jets emerging from its wings and tail (CQC Destroyer).
Acedramon is dressed like a WWI flyboy and was inspired by the shark faces painted on some fighter jets. The rest of the line were inspired by heavy weaponry and the general coolness of cyborg dragons. The technology become more advanced as the Digimon evolves and become more mechanical.

it's always so funny to reread Naruto and just see how it simply becomes the opposite of what it had started off as
like, we don't even have to go to the "delulu fever dream" territory that Fourth Shinobi World War arc (especially from chapter 600 and onwards) is, Shippuden (which starts from chapter 245, so about 1/3 of the whole manga) begins with SUNAGAKURE BEING FUCKING NUKED
HUH THAT'S VERY SECRETIVE OF YOU MR SHINOBI
(no i will never stop laughing at the fact that Deidara of all people got sent to a stealth mission. DEIDARA. the guy whose entire purpose in life is to go kaboom. why is he a shinobi again? i guess they trained him as one, but bro's screeching at the top of his lungs and blows things up because "kaboom pretty", the only ones who is going to become invisible and eradicated are his enemies)
(and yes that's pretty much my main idea behind the events in chapter 1 of Looking Through the Foggy Glass, because if you sit there for like 5 seconds and think about "huh okay so Sasori and Deidara are sent to Suna to get Shukaku, I wonder who's the better choice for this mission among the two of them, Sasori who is literally from this village, has spies in there and specializes in stealthy actions or Deidara who is loud as fuck has no plan other than to survive because he's a spiteful bitch and has to fight Itachi down the line" you realize that canon events make no sense unless a) Sasori actually refused to do the mission and just gave it to Deidara because LMAO what's Pain gonna do to stop them from doing what they want once they get to Suna? Leave his depressioncore village? Shout at them during the Zoom meetup? b) the leadership of Akatsuki are a bunch of imbeciles who really looked at Deidara's arsenal and went "yep, that's the kind of energy we want to bring to our One-Tail extraction mission", which really shouldn't be the case no matter how many tons of rocks happened to fall on their head over the course of their lives. so yeah, Sasori is doing Kishibe Rohan reference (pretty much intended because of the voice actor lmao) in the beginning of LTFG)
oh and I just remembered another fun topic: the structure of society in Naruto makes no fucking sense! in particular the way military operates in the world. I remember someone pointing out that "eradicating yourself", "doing everything unnoticed" etc etc y'know, the SHINOBI stuff actually sounds like shinobi should really either be assassins for hire during the peaceful times or frontline units specializing in quick sudden attacks on the enemy, disorienting said enemy and providing the opportunity for breakthrough for. well. the actual military??? at the start of the manga it does kinda seem like shinobi is just a specialized profession, but then certain events start and you realize wait what the fuck shinobi ARE the military??? I may not be a professional strategist, but between training 100 guys to hide and throw knives from behind the bushes and training one kid with a fucking nuke there is one strategy that will clearly be faster and more efficient in battles that last hours, if not days (and they should be if the shinobi world had 3 world wars in the span of 77 years).
another issue that I have with the military system is actually about the shinobi system itself, in particular that there's just no specialization. we've got like three ranks starting from "finished primary school" and ending with "an actual fucking general" and beyond that there's just being the ninja mayor lmao. I believe there's also this thing called tokubetsu-jonin which is essentially a chunin who's pretty good at something, but not a lot of other things, so we can't make them a jonin??? anyway, ninja system really should have more ranks for its shinobi. and more units existing in parallel. like, you become a jonin and your options (at least in Konoha) seem to be limited to "work for Hokage", "wear cool mask and work for Hokage", "get three kids, go insane and work for Hokage", "sell your soul to Danzo and work for him (90% meaning you work for Hokage)" and "torture squad. probably also given missions from Hokage".

oh, so here's an actual omake from the volume.
Horikoshi loved to add his thoughts during the work on the chapter/some info on the characters and their designs/explanations on what is going on behind the scene, but Kishimoto's omake most of the time is just him telling the most insane stories from his life. you really do be reading an intense ninja battle and in the middle of it Kishi is explaing how he got his head stuck in Naruto merchandise pouch after trying to take a nap there and all of his assistants were taking photos of him stuck in there and laughing as he was trying to get it off himself.
(now I kinda wish Naruto was releasing today, with all of the social media available. Horikoshi posts absolutely amazing sketches for new episodes/volume releases, while Fujimoto's account is just "Today I went to 7/11 and bought the new autumn melon pan. It was delicious. I recommend it to everyone." generally on the same day CSM manga has the most insane lore drop and battle of the year.)
(also remembered that time when Fujimoto recommened his assistant's one shot. he did mention that it was 18+. he did not mention that it was straight up yaoi. the comments were flooded with people posting the picture of that guy saluting with text "me when Fujimoto tells me to read gay porn")
(anyway imagine if we had something like that for Naruto. I would not be surprised if we were to find Kishimoto liking Sasunaru fanart.)
