Ex Voto, Ermitage Rouge Guigal 2012 Francia, Rhone AOC Hermitage; Crù Ex Voto Syrah (100%) Rosso 13 % Uno dei vini più importanti di Guigal. Questo vino nasce da viti di 50-90 anni su un vigneto molto pendente, la versione Rouge nasce da 4 parcelle diverse: Les Bessards (terreno granitico); L’Ermite (composto da terriccio argilloso-sabbioso e loess, ossia un sedimento eolico molto fine); Les Greffleux (ghiaia alluvionale frutto della glaciazione di Wurm); Les Murets (terreno alluvionale fluvio-glaciale e ghiaia). Le uve sono fermentate a temperatura controllata. Il vino matura 42 mesi in barrique di rovere (100% nuove). Questo vino è prodotto solo nelle annate eccezionali, con un grande potenziale di invecchiamento. E. Guigal naque nel 1946 ad Ampuis, nella Valle del Rodano ed è uno dei produttori più importanti della regione. Etienne Guigal acquistò un piccolo vigneto nella Cote Rotie, collaborando con gli Etablissements Vidal-Fleury (produttore in voga) fino a quando nel 1984, il figlio Marcel decise di acquistarli e fare lo stesso nel 1995 con Chateau D’Ampuis (una fortezza del XII sec che ristrutturerà). L’attuale enologo Philippe Guigal (nipote di Etienne) gestisce i 60 ettari sparsi in varie zone del Rodano con gli uvaggi tipici (dallo Syrah, Marsanne e Roussanne a Grenache, Cinsault, Viognier e Clairette). La cantina interrata nella tenuta si estende per quasi 3. Dal 2003 producono 800 botti all’anno nella propria Tonnellerie. Guigal produce la gamma più importante “Les Tresors” (I Tesori), di seguito. In Cote Rotie i quotatissimi Crus: Chateau d’Ampuis; La Mouline; La Turque; La Landonne. In Condrieu 2 Crus: La Doriane; Luinescensce. In Hermitage il Crù Ex Voto: Rouge e Blanc. In Saint Joseph: Lieu-Dit (Rouge e Blanc); Vignes de l’Hospice. While this bottle may not look like much from the outside, the contents were simply stunning! This 1987 Guigal La Mouline Cote Rotie was a highlight from a recent in-person tasting (that complied with all legal requirements). . Based in the Northern Rhone, E. Guigal makes some of my favorite wines. The so-called La La trilogy (La Mouline, La Landonne and La Turque) is the crown jewel of the Guigal lineup. La Mouline always contains the highest percentage of Viognier (typically around 11%). The La Mouline fruit comes from a steep, heavily-terraced portion of the Cote Blonde vineyard with rocky soils and which is typically the warmest of the three sources. (See the very first post in my profile for vineyard pics!). La Mouline is produced using the more gentle pumping over technique as opposed to punching down. As a result of these differences, La Mouline tends to be the most elegant of the three and the one that can be enjoyed the earliest. . Of course, La Mouline still ages phenomenally well! La Mouline is also one of those rare wines that transcend vintage and points and is inevitably one of the most memberable bottles on the table every time it is opened. And so it was with this 1987! Despite being from a supposedly off vintage, this La Mouline outclassed many more highly regarded (and more costly) wines from the very first nose! An intriguing array of dark cherry, black pepper, smoked meat, olive, iron, rosemary, thye, and sage perfectly balanced the abundant acidity. The mouthfeel was ethereal and the finish long, lingering and complex! La Mouline has a soulful character that reminds you with every sip that you are experiencing something truly special! After every sip, I sat in silence soaking it all in much like I do when appreciating an artistic masterpiece at a museum. Guigal, envelhece 16 meses em barricas de carvalho (francês) de 2° uso. . Tem deliciosos aromas de frutas vermelhas frescas, especiarias, madeira (cedro) e couro. Na boca é seco, com corpo médio e acidez média-alta. Tem taninos de moderados à intensos, de excelente qualidade (macios)! The estate was later passed on in 1961 to Marcel Guigal. His work and his perseverance enabled the Guigal establishments to purchase the entire Vidal-Fleury company in 1984, which nevertheless retains its own identity and commercial autonomy. It should be noted that in 1995 Guigal bought the famous Château d'Ampuis, a historic landmark in the Côte-Rôtie appellation, which became its head office. The 60-hectare vineyard of Maison Guigal produces great red, white and rosé wines from the Rhône Valley. Questo vino nasce da viti di 50 - 90 anni su un vigneto molto pendente, la versione Blanc da 2 parcelle diverse: L’Ermite (composto da terriccio argilloso-sabbioso e loess, ossia un sedimento eolico molto fine) e Les Murets (terreno alluvionale fluvio-glaciale e ghiaia). Le uve sono fermentate a temperatura controllata e svolge completamente la malolattica. Il vino viene vinificato e matura 30 mesi in barrique di rovere (100% nuove). Questo vino è prodotto solo nelle annate eccezionali, con un grande potenziale di invecchiamento. E. Remembering the night when a good friend was in town. Immediately after our business was finished, we opened a 2008 Guigal La Mouline and then the floodgates opened (as they often do)! While the double 99-point 2013 BOND St. Eden would have been wine of the night most nights, the supposedly off vintage 08 La Mouline was hauntingly good. So good that we had to open a second bottle (Swipe left), which was somehow even better than the first! Enticing aromatics of smoked meat, pepper and (pleasant) funk/barnyard aromas won us over before the first sip! The La Mouline attacked our palates with plush red fruit, soft tannins, and a long, complex finish. The BOND was really special too, but for me there is something absolutely magical about the LaLa’s, and La Mouline in particular. It is one of those rare wines that transcends vintages and points - it has a soul and character that reminds you with every sip that you are experiencing something truly unique and special. While I would much rather be drinking Côte-Rôtie, tonight I’m remembering my visit to the iconic E. Guigal’s famous vineyards in the Northern Rhône! These pictures show the portion of the Côte Blonde lieu-dit from which the grapes that go into the La Mouline - my favorite of the 3 La Las - are located. This extraordinarily steep vineyard is heavily terraced and has rocky soils. It is also warmer than the other vineyards, features a higher percentage of Viognier (10-11%), and is produced using the more gentle pumping over technique as opposed to punching down. These differences result in a wine that is generally a bit more elegant and ready to drink earlier than either La Landonne or La Turque.
