hi ! i've been stalking ur page ( i love it so so much ) and wanted to say it's amazing how much effort you put in your post ! i'm extremely new to hellenic polytheism ( coming from being a jehovas witness by force ) and have become very confused as to how to pray to the gods. i've read its different depending on the god(ess) your praying to being ouranic, chthonic, or einalic. so basically i'm just asking how to pray ( for clarification ) and when praying to einalic gods do i have to be at sea?

How to pray

Typically, prayers were done standing up (it's fine if you sit if you struggle with standing up).

When praying to Ouranic [Heavelny] Gods the hands were raised above the head, palms upturned towards heaven. Although sometimes the hands could be at about the level of the shoulders.

However, it was also common to pray with only one hand raised. In this case, the hands aren't usually raised above the head but "held out in front of one in a gesture like that used by policemen to halt traffic" [Prayer in Greek Religion, Simon Pulleyn]

According to Plato, when only one hand was used in prayer, the right one was used for the Olympian gods and the left for the Chthonic gods. In addition, when praying to Heavenly gods, with one hand outstretched the left hand could be closed and the thumb clenched inwards.

When praying to Chthonic [Underworld] Gods the palms face down to the ground.

However, in case you're praying in front of a cult image, it might be more appropriate to raise the palms to a cult statue than to make them face the ground, even when the deity involved is chthonic.

When praying to Einalic [Sea] Gods arms could be spread wide towards the sea.

Again, as I said above, alternatively, the palms could just face the cult image.

To answer your question, no, you don't have to be at the sea. Personally, if I happen to lack any cult image of the sea deity that I'm praying to, I face the direction of the sea. So, for example, I face North, the direction in which the nearest sea happens to be for me, even though I live about 300 km away.

Kneeling - not very common, might've been used when the prayer was very emotional for the one praying or in emergencies.

When you pray silently, you could position your hand/hands vertically with palm/palms facing you and fingers pressed to your mouth.

Vocab post: Cthonic

The word cthonic comes from the word “kthon” meaning earth or soil. Cthonic is a descriptive word for things relating to the underworld and is used mainly in context of Cthonic deities, cthonic rituals, cthonic cults, etc. It is often used as the antithesis of Ouranic but that is not entirely true.

Cthonic and Ouranic are not two sides of the same coins and do not cleanly differentiate types of deities and forms of worship but instead demonstrate a cultic spectrum. Cthonic not only refers to the underworld but that related to the earth and agriculture, deities such as: Persephone, Demeter, Hermes and even Zeus has got cthonic epithets.

Cthonic cult differs majorly from Ouranic cults from their sacrifices, rituals and prayer format. Cthonic sacrifices was defined as black or dark-skinned animals, and worshippers didn’t consume their sacrifices but instead offered in whole and burnt it and destroyed the offering. Sacrifices were performed in a pit in the ground or on a low altar in the direction to which cthonic deities reside. Incense was not used in cthonic worship due to the smoke rising to the sky rather than sticking to the ground. Honey was also preferable to wine in cthonic worship.

Historians argue as to if cthonic is a historically accurate term with some historians, like van Straten, arguing that there is no historical evidence for the term cthonic. Others say that the term is no longer useful as modern definitions have strayed from historical definitions.

Wer bin ich? Was mache ich hier? Bin ich dieses ganze Leben überhaupt wert? Warum bin ich so, wie ich bin? Könnte ich nicht einfach von jetzt auf gleich ein anderer, besserer Mensch sein?

Ich habe mich im letzten Jahr sehr von meiner Arbeit stressen lassen und hatte jetzt glücklicherweise die letzten 2 Wochen Urlaub. Aber irgendwie hat das auch wieder nichts gebracht... Ich fühle mich weiterhin gestresst und kann nicht so richtig abschalten. Es beschäftigt mich jetzt zwar meine Arbeit nicht mehr, aber ich bin jetzt in der realität meines Lebens wieder angekommen. Ich kann mich eigentlich kaum beschweren, ich habe keine existenziellen sorgen, so wie es zur Zeit viele Menschen haben, ich bin glücklicherweise nicht arm, krank oder etwas anderes schlimmes. Aber ich habe keine Freunde. Ich habe niemanden, der etwas mit mir unternehmen kann, dem ich schreiben kann, wenn mir langweilig ist oder der mich irgendwohin mitnimmt. Ich habe alle von mir weg gestoßen, damals, als ich dachte, dass die Jungs aus der Schule meine Freunde wären, aber ich immer angst hatte, etwas mit ihnen zu unternehmen, weil ich nicht wusste, was passieren würde. Ich habe diesen Fehler aber nicht nur einal gemacht, ich habe ihn mehrmals gemacht. Es gelingt mir nicht, mit Menschen in Kontakt zu bleiben, aber vielleicht wollen sie ja auch keinen Kontakt zu mir? Ich habe den glauben, dass ich kein guter Mensch bin. Ich bin schon immer schüchtern und zurückgezogen, kann große Menschenmassen nicht leiden und eigentlich Menschen an sich auch nicht... Aber es gibt Menschen, die ich doch mag, die mir sehr ans Herz gewachsen sind und ohne die es mich vielleicht auch nicht mehr geben würde. Danke an meine beste Freundin, dass es dich gibt!❤️ Du wohnst leider viel zu weit weg, als dass ich etwas spontan mit dir unternehmen könnte, aber das wissen wir beide... Ich weiß, dass ich mit dir über alles reden kann, aber ich habe Angst, dass ich dich verliere, wenn ich das zu oft ausnutze. Ich beschwere mich auch immer über das gleiche und ich merke, dass du da inzwischen auch keine Lust mehr drauf hast. Reden ist für mich sowieso schwer. Ich habe es mir bei unseren letzten Treffen schon oft überlegt, ob ich mit dir über alles reden soll, aber ich weiß, dass ich nicht reden kann. Ich könnte das alles einfach nicht mehr in Worte fassen und wenn ich es versuchen würde, würde alles nach ein paar Sätzen in einem großen Nervenzusammenbruch enden. Ich möchte dich damit auch einfach nicht zu sehr belasten, das mache ich sowieso schon...

Vor ein paar Jahren dachte ich, ich hätte diese Zeit hinter mir gelassen, könnte nun nach vorne schauen und mein Leben würde sich verbessern, das hat es aber nicht. Es ist fast sogar noch schlimmer geworden. Ich habe den Sport verloren, die einzige Konstante in meinem Leben. Und ich weiß nicht, wie ich das alles noch schaffen soll. Ich fühle mich, als würde ich meine Lebenszeit verschwenden, weil ich ich bin. Ich weiß nicht, wie ich das alles wieder auf die Reihe bekommen soll. Raus kommen aus meinem derzeitigen "Leben". Ich habe 2 Wochen damit verbracht, in meinem Bett zu liegen, und Youtube-Videos und Netflix zu schauen. Auf Twitter, Instagram und Facebook zu scrollen und zu lesen, wie das Leben anderer so läuft, habe kaum Menschen gesehen.

Und ich dachte, ich hätte meine Suizidgedanken damals überwunden und sie seien nun weg. Aber das stimmt nicht. Das einzige, was weg ist, ist die leere in mir. Sie wurde durch einen unendlichen Druck ersetzt. Die Gedanken sind nicht weg, sie sind noch da und kommen immer wieder zum Vorschein. Aber es sind nur Vorstellungen, sonst nichts.

Pokemon Half Moon - The knights of Unova

To say that Adaman was shocked to see the Unova Dragons for the first time in Islespy Shore would be an understatement… He was already surprised to discover new foreigners, but he didn’t expect to meet a physically younger clone of Pearl Warden Ingo and two teenage kids. That said, despite their monochrome outfits and Emmet’s imposing stature (being very tall and his eyes lacking expressivity), the Diamond Clan leader wasn’t afraid of them… If anything, he was actually curious about them.

He obviously asked them who they are and how did they ended up in Hisui. Emmet, Hilbert and Hilda already have a script in mind for this kind of questions… They planned it on their first night in Islespy Shore thanks to their common knowledge of Unova’s history and mythology. As time travelers, acting skills are one of their hidden talents.

Many years ago, a long war had taken place between the worshipers of two pretenders to the throne of the kingdom of Unova (the two brothers of the legend) and one of their dragon deities: Reshiram and Zekrom, the Dragons of Ideal and Truth. Many battles took place between the two clans, fighting in the name of their beliefs where the line between morality and their faith became blurred... Until Einall, a knight from Castelia Village, inhabited by these two principles and guided by his sincere desire for unity and peace, put an end to the conflict with the help of a third legendary dragon: Kyurem. As a result, the two former princes disappeared, their clans were dissolved and Einall became the new king of the country, while the three deities fell into a deep sleep after the war ended.

Emmet/Silver, Hilbert and Hilda thus grew up in a peaceful kingdom. The two teenagers were orphans who only had their Pokemon and their own skills to survive on the streets of Nuvema Town, until the silver-haired man - an experimented knight from Nimbasa Village - took them in and taught them everything about chivalry and Pokemon battles, becoming a mentor figure to the kids. The three of them formed a powerful group of knights and trainers (this modern term actually came early in Unova unlike Hisui) to the point of being called “the Unova Dragons”, and they managed to live decently with paying their services for escort and protection - which was common for independent knights nonaffiliated to the king’s army -. One day, they were invited to a travel in boat to visit Kanto, but the embarkation was caught into a storm and got destroyed by waves and water Pokemon on the area. The Unova Dragons thankfully avoided drowning thanks to a safety boat with survival material and their Pokemon who guided them through the ocean, traveling for a while until they find a land.

Coincidentally, Adaman noticed that a storm indeed happened in Hisui a few days ago, giving credence to the heroes’ words. After hearing their tale, the Diamond Clan leader felt glad that the group managed to survive that incident in sea and wanted them to be safe in this new foreign region for them… So he proposed them to stay in his clan so they can have a shelter. He didn’t even asked them to be members of it since he understands that if their country suffered the consequences of war because of clans, the Unova Dragons wouldn’t want to join one even in another land.

Emmet, Hilbert and Hilda, at first surprised, look at each other for a moment while thinking about this idea… For the short time they talk with Adaman, they can tell he’s a good guy. It’s also not so bad that a hisuian like him is aware of their presence so early, since they wouldn’t be confused for dangerous enemies or disguised Zoroark by less open-minded people. Moreover, even if they’re more than capable to defend themselves against wild Pokemon, it would be best to stay somewhere where there’s the lowest chance to get attacked by one in their sleep. So they accepted Adaman’s deal and can stay in the Diamond clan as guests.

EXTRA TIPS:

Why the trio didn’t tell Adaman that they have Reshiram, Zekrom and Kyurem with them? Simple: they don’t want anyone to know it. While the dragons retain their immense powers due to being from the future - a time where all legendary Pokemon are known by everyone in the world -, they remain foreign deities in a country in old times when the strength of the local divinities are amplified by the faith people have in them in their original territory. Moreover, they are in the land of Dialga, Palkia, Giratina and Arceus, God itself. Nothing forbids them to fight alongside their heroes, but Arceus would immediately notice their presence if they directly intervene. To avoid causing problems to the Unova Dragons’ mission, they advices them to only call them in battle in case of extreme emergency.
