One of the most horrifying things I've ever had to deal with while working in a care home, especially with residents suffering from some form of dementia, is when you walk into their room and they're at another point in time. They're sobbing, begging you to tell them where their mother is. They're pleading, crying the hardest you've ever seen them, and even after almost three years of being in this profession I still struggle to react appropriately. What are you supposed to say? There's no script for something like this and it breaks my heart every time. In truth, there's nothing you can say to help make it better.
I always spend some time by their bedside comforting them and offering some form of distraction. It doesn't always work, but I try to. I can't say or do anything to relieve their experiences, whatever they may be, and I definitely can't tell them where their mother is, but I can offer company. I try not to leave until they've cracked a smile or given an indication they're feeling better, no matter how busy I am. I don't always manage to cheer them up, but the majority of them thank me for my time.
After the long lives these people have led, five minutes of my busy day is the least I can give them.
And when that time is up, I go back on the floor and carry on. I have a job to do and I do it. If I need space to cry, I take it. If I feel sad, I let myself feel it. And when I clock out, I leave all my work related emotions at the front door. It's the only way to deal with it.

I want to have hope so I can have motivation and courage but I'm terrified of getting my hopes up and hyping myself up only for it to be just crushed into dust. I want to believe but I fear that regretting the joy of it will kill me

dont really see why more children is automatically better tbh. obviously being open to life is important but i see no inherent value in having many children that isnt teetering on the edge of utilitarianism and violating the personalistic norm.
#i am very glad to only have one sibling both because we are extremely close and because our childhood was spent caring for our elderly#grandfather and then our high school middle school years were spent dealing with my dad's health issues#i started babysitting my granddad when i was like eight. it would have been a nightmare to have to deal with multiple young children/babies#in the ensuing years because it just wouldn’t have worked for our family#and my parents didn’t actively plan to have two kids they didn’t like plan their family or whatever#but it just worked out that way and it was emphatically for the best#and everyone likes to bring up the ‘don’t not have another kid because you want a boat!!!!1!' point which like yes that’s correct#but there is a difference between wanting to live in luxury and not wanting to live in poverty. i think people should strive against#intentionally bringing children into poverty or having more children than they can afford to give a basically decent life#because it is unkind to a child to do so.#yes don’t have a boat instead of a kid. but where do these people draw the line? can’t afford to put your kids through catholic schools?#can’t afford to have savings in case someone is injured or ill?#can’t afford to keep Mom home to stay with the children?#bringing people into the world because you think their quantity will get you into heaven is selfish and it uses children as a means to an#end when they should be an expression of love only.

I wish capitalism was a tangible object I could bite and claw at I start foaming at the mouth like a rabid dog when I think about it gwrrwhrwgwwrgwr
#my mom shouldn't have to have a job she is busy all goddamn day every goddamn day taking care of her mom and her 6 year old child#and she takes care of me and my brother and her husband this woman is exhausted#and she makes us breakfast and dinner every day and she watches all the neighborhood kids and and and#she is already fulfilling an extremely valuable roll in society!! why the FUCK should she have to have a job too!!#not even going to say 'outside the home' because her job IS OUTSIDE THE HOME she contributes to this whole damn community#It's BULLSHIT it's UNFAIR she deserves justice#and it's also bullshit and unfair that a household with three workinh adults cant afford a 4 bedroom family home.#We collectively make enoigj money that we lost our fucking health insurance and are being kicked out of our subsidized housing#But there are no homes anywhere near any of our jobs that we can afford so WHAT THE FUCK#and every part of it is capitalism and I hate it I hate it I hate it I hate it#Is the purpose of life not to find and be with wnd care for loved ones?? are humans not born to love and be loved and help one another??#what went wrong? why did we let it get this far? why are we taking a mother away from her 6 year old daughter so she can afford#both of their medicines that they need to live healthy lives???#A caretaker away from a disabled elderly woman? A safe person to leave your children with away from the village? Why the goddamn divide??#sorry there was ten minutes begween that tag and this one because I had to cry I am calmer now#still heavily anti-capitalist tho

Not socialist in a “I won’t have to work” type of way but socialist in a “I’ll still be working but I won’t be worried I won’t make the rent” type of way. In a “billions won’t be hoarded by one person” type of way. In a “janitors, fast-food workers, child care workers, preschool teachers, hotel clerks, personal care and home health aides, and grocery store cashiers, will live comfortably” type of way. In a “the sick and elderly will be cared for” type of way. In a “no child should work” type of way.
