1. There is a fic that I don’t remember the name of but it was wangxian arranged marriage with heavy angst and unhappy WWX. I remember it had a line going “Being married to me is killing him” so if anyone knows it I will be forever grateful 🥰 @kanrax-blog

3. i was hoping you could also help with finding a fic and since i don’t want to flood the inbox, i wanted to put my request here.
i’m looking for a fic/series where wei wuxian and lan wangji are both actors that work on a project together that involves them being intimate. the catch is that wwx thought lwj hated him and so there’s tension there. there’s also a continuation of when they’re happily together where wwx finds a shrine/treasure room dedicated to himself when visiting lwj’s house. it’s one of the first fics i ever read and it’s so deeply buried that I can’t seem to find the bookmark for it and was hoping for help. thank you in advance and i wish you all well.
FOUND! Feel My Love by Leffy (E, 5k, wangxian, modern, Actors, Fluff and Smut, Hand Jobs, Rimming, Anal Sex, inappropriate use of light sticks), of Blooming into the Color of Love series. shout out to asker and their brain cooperating with the details of the fic cause it made it easy to find !

4. I'd love some help finding a fic! it's a short-ish smut modern au, with gnc lwj who wears skirts and does makeup for football/soccer player wwx, but it's very much canon dynamics! i think wwx has some but not a lot of comphet in it, wwx is very amenable to getting railed by lwj after he learns that this is a thing that could happen. i really enjoyed the characterization
I know I've read 4 but I can't find it/remember what it's called argh. The Twin Jades were child stars and LQR taught them that they had to have other avenues so LXC is a philanthropist (??) And LWJ moonlights in fashion design. He overheard footballer!WWX admitting he would have sex with LWJ and with Mianmian (???)'s help he made it happen. I think the end is a fast forward years later still together/happy.
FOUND! wear me out by plonk (Not Rated, 7k, WangXian, Modern AU, Fashion & Couture, Football | Soccer, Not!Fic)

5. hi! trying my luck hunting down this fic which i sadly don't remember much of except for one scene. what i rmb is wwx seeing a comb that he wants to get for lwj in caiyi town, and not buying it the first time due to budget issues. when he eventually returns to the stall again, it turns out the seller kept it for him: wwx learns about this from the seller's husband, who is the one at the stall this time, and wwx is surprised to learn about the acceptance of cutsleeve relationships in gusu. thank you very much!!!

6. Hello, I would like some help?? I’m looking for a fic but I completely forgot the name 🥲
it was a MDZS/TGCF crossover: Xie Lian joined the juniors on their nighthunt and Jingyi spends most of the time suspicious of him. At one point they all thought Xie Lian died but Lan Zichen appeared and performed cpr on him and he was fine. At the end WWX recognized him and called him grand uncle and tells the kids Xie Lian’s a god (and when they ask ‘why didn’t you say anything?’, Xie Lian’s only response was ‘you didn’t ask’)
That’s all I remember, I’m loosing my mind trying to look for it please help me 🥺🥺 I’m sorry if it’s a pain @cullen-blue23

7. Hello! Excuse me but could you please help me with the title of the Wangxian fic that's a Gawain and the Green Knight AU? 8. Fic finder request please! 🙂
Wangxian was in an arranged marriage au and WWX, in trying to get to know LWJ, hangs onto his arm or something and gets pushed into a pond (by accident fromLwJ), but WWX thinks it was on purpose and he decides to be just as rude back. I can’t remember anything else about it, but I think it had a happy ending and that LWJ had to grovel a bit. I swear I’ve read it a few months ago and can’t find it anywhere! 😭😭

9. Hi, nice ppl! I'm looking for a fic (Modern AU). LWJ is a rich lonely businessman who finds erotic model WWX online (he doesn't do it for pleasure but to pay JC's medical treatment) & falls for him. No explicit sex, WWX just shows his body (only HALF of his face to keep anonymity) & sends private set of pix to clients after paying a lot of money. LWJ becomes the best client instantly, getting more pix & phone calls, which seems to be enough 4 him (he's in love). WWX doesn't trust him, he thinks he could be a psycho, so they didn't meet YET (the fic wasn't finished & now I cannot find it). One day, WWX is in a photo session w/erotic lingery in a building room near LWJ's office, who 'feels' smth but, as he gets to the place, it's already empty & the staff + WWX gone. He founds a piece of his costume & keeps it. Sorry I have no more to add, only that WWX really needs the money for JC's health & asks LWJ to make the payments to his own bank acc, not to the agency (perhaps that lil' info helps). LXC notices a positive change in his brother's mood but LWJ doesn't tell anything to him. TYSM!xo @einherjermineord

10. Hello this is a long shot but my history and bookmarks crashed on AO3 and there was a fanfic I was reading it was about LZ meeting WY as children one of the two save the other from dogs, LZ gave WY his drum rattle, in a Yilin alley, it was cold and the thin clothed WY got a coat from LZ the author described the coat or cape as embroidery and elegant, then when the uncle and brother came to him, he turn and WY left with the drum rattle but not the coat/cape, years later they are married have children WY pulls out drum rattles and then the old one (which he used as design for the other ones) and is there where they realized are them in the childhood encounter ... I know it's a long shot but do you know what fic I am talking about? Oh and I think it has the tones of mpreg hence the children, but I can't remember much, if you could help me please and thank you
PS there is an author that used a similar encounter in "A Matter of Time" but that is not it I am so sorry to bother you about this, this author told me about you so here I am 😁

11. Hello!! I'm looking for either one or 2 fics here. I might have read them at the same time and they blurred together, or it is the same fic. Anyway, one of them has mo xuanyu and nie huaisang working together and mxy is a fashion designer that insists on dressing wwx. And then the other has a scene where wwx is at some fancy party and escapes lwj through like a sky light. It's a cat-and-mouse fic where lwj is trying to capture wwx.
Thanks for your help and all the hard work yall do 🖤🖤🖤

12. Hello again. First off I'd like to thank you for all your hard work and help. This blog means alot to me.
I need help finding a fic. It's a modern au. WWX is a hacker. I forgot what LWJ does. It's not something he likes. He doesn't like his life/work. Doing it just for family. There was a part in the fic where LQR said/asked? If LWJ was happy and LWJ said no.
If you do find this fic, would you also recommend something in this similar theme? LWJ doing things for family and not being happy and LQR finds out and regrets his actions? @lailan-rosie

13. Hi, Help me find this fic🙏
Lwj is in a hostage/courtesan/concubine situation and the ones who owns him are either wens or jins. Lxc is free and about, knows lwj's situation yet does nothing/can't do nothing because of sect politics.
WWX meets lwj, a stranger at lwj's institution/lodgings and is appalled at lxc for his inaction. Wwx fights/duels lxc saying hes a bad brother. @imstillthinkingaboutithmm

14. Hi! I’m looking for a fic where rogue!wwx(?) meets LWJ who came down from the mountain just to collect books and bring knowledge back to the cloud recesses. It’s like a right of passage thing? They travel together a long time and then LWJ gets called home. I think he gives WWX a way to contact him even though he shouldn’t? And WWX ends up bringing the Wen remnants to CR.

15. hi ! this is for fic finder, i think i asked before but i don’t believe it was found: wangxian modern au, they reunite after a gap bc lan zhan gets into an accident (he’s fine, but it was going to be on the news because he’s a bit famous (i think it was as a tv baker) so lan xichen comes over to tell him). they get closer again and i think near the end it’s revealed that lan sizhui is lan yuan, a patient wei ying grew attached to that lan zhan adopted a few yrs after wei ying disappeared @willesnelson
FOUND? 16. Hello! Hoping to find a fic where Meng Yao I think is the main character. Modern AU, the ensemble are nurses/doctors. Meng Yao is a nurse, but like the head or charge nurse - he points out you can tell bc he's wearing a particular color of scrubs (yellow?). The plot had to do with people actually protecting him for once and his father trying to pin his own mal practice (or possibly Jin Zixun's) on Meng Yao. But Nie Huisang manages to save the day by "stumbling across" records that proved it was Jin Guangshan/Zixun at fault.
Thanks so much for all your hard work mods! @somevariationofgay

19. hello! i am looking for a fic, if you don’t mind helping me ☺️
i believe in the fic wwx and lwj used to know each other well (or were together? i cant remember), and wwx came back to lwj’s life with baby sizhui. the baby is also lwj’s i think? but lwj didnt know prior to wwx’s return. the fic is set in modern times, so lwj is a rich boss running a company and wants to provide wwx and baby sizhui everything they need. theres this one scene where lwj gets overwhelmed about the whole situation, so he starts making lists: schools for sizhui, putting wwx on lwj’s uber plan, etc etc.
i’ve been looking for this fic for a very long time but my hands still come up empty. thank you very much!

rules: post the names of all the files in your wip folder regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. let people send you an ask with the title that most intrigues them and then post a little snippet of it or tell them something about it! and then tag as many people as you have wips.
i was tagged by the wonderful @thedaughterofshadows tnx!!! <3
i’m tagging: @aredhel-of-doylkien @scaredysap @psychic-waffles @phantomhydeoftheopera @youngks-smile @cute-rocks @stupid-lemon-eater @pangzi @enjaami @omaenanimonoda @lynne-monstr @morifiinwe @elenothar if you feel like it. idk if yall all write xD
unfortunately mine is also going to be very boring, bc the file names of my WIP files are generally just the fandom name + character name + WIP or sth along those lines. also my WIP files (several ones for different fandoms) sadly contain many things I started such a long time ago that i do not think I will ever go back to them, for the simple reason that my writing has evolved and the styles would not fit together anymore, but here goes nothing :D putting it under a read more bc it got long...
1. DMBJ gnc Wu Xie fic : pretty much what it says on the tin. post-tltr wu xie exploring some gender stuff he wasn’t ready for before
2. Cheng Xinyan fic : Guardian, obviously. This one is set after the scene where sw gets soaked kneeling in the rain to get the annoying doctor to fix zyl’s eyes. sw goes to see his old uni buddy afterwards bc he needs some tlc. the whole thing is an exploration of their relationship and shared history, as well as sw’s emotional state in the present.
3. Guardian fic - A hand within a hand (holding light) : i’m working on chapter 6 atm. fic is an exploration of various oc povs of sw throughout the guardian timeline. the current chapter follows my oc chen anjing, who is a dixingren single mother living in haixing with her young son, who both have a history with hei pao shi that takes a lot of effort to get past.
4. Student Shen Wei fic : this one might get scrapped bc the intended plot is very similar to what i ended up doing in chapter 4 of the fic above this one, only with prof. Zhou in place of my oc :/
5. MDZS murder mystery : i have every intention of getting to this one one day but damn if it isn’t too complicated for me. it’s a murder mystery fic surrounding the death of a young boy in a village on the border between lanling and qinghe. lan xichen, jiang cheng and a bunch of ocs set out to solve the murder, and in the process they unearth a bunch of lxc’s old trauma he thought he’d worked through. the whole thing is told in flashback, from the post-canon perspective of nie huaisang who is the only one still alive who knows what actually happened those days and what lxc and jc did not manage to figure out.
6. SHL modern au : a ballet/dancer au of word of honour. not much to say about it honestly.
7. Immovable rock x desert dust fic : QZGS fic also known as the immovable rock amnesia fic. tells a story about a weird forest, an eldritch being with immense power, and the avatars who get caught in the web of fate.
8. Life Extinguisher fic : QZGS fic, about what would happen if someone devised a weapon that could fry LE’s mechanical box in battle. so basically LE getting electrocuted. great fun xD
9. Vaccaria x Troubling rain fic : an exploration of vaccaria’s power as the magician and the reason he wears his eyepatch. (hint: there’s chaos in his soul that only good pk can calm)
10. Shishen bond fic : YYM-DOE fic, explores the nature of the shishen bond, and what it actually entails to give a spirit guardian an order, especially one they do not want to follow. set post-canon, focuses on snow hound’s recovery after the serpent battle.
11. Tryptich WIP : YYM-DOE fic, also known as the Metaphorical Serpent Modern AU. it’s a modern au centred around killing stone. the basic premise is that the serpent of the movie is not a real entity but rather a metaphor for our personal demons. it’s a very heavy story about the mental health of all its characters that loosely follows canon, in which qingming is not a yin yang master but a psychiatrist, and the shishen are not qingming’s spirit guardians but his patients.
12. YYM fanfic - what’s in a name? : fic exploring the meaning behind the various shishen’s names.
13. LotR the disadvantages of kingship : Thranduil takes up the crown after his father’s death, in the middle of a raging war. this one is so old, it’s probably the first fic i ever started writing, because it literally came to me in a dream when i was 13, and it never got finished. bc i was 13.
14. the time before time : a Silm fanfic that chronicles (pun intended) the time before time. from the birth of the ainur in the timeless halls up until the creation of arda. probably the second fic i ever tried to write. didn’t go anywhere even though i had like 11 chapters planned.
15. Feanor wip : about fëanor’s mental state after the burning of the ships
16. ecthelion wip : about the crossing of the ice, the founding of gondolin, and how ecthelion became the lord of the fountain.
17. And miles to go (before i sleep) : fic about finarfin’s return. i would love to finish this bc it was important to me, but i cannot say for sure i ever will.
18. celebrimbor wip : about celebrimbor disowning (i guess) his father after doriath.
19. fingolfin wip : from the start of dagor bragollach until his duel with and death at the hands of morgoth, told from both his and fingon’s perspective.

If you're still doing the HCs, Eldritch Lans AU and 🏥
🏥 Taking Care of Injuries HC
There’s not much that can hurt a Lan in this universe, so they don’t really stop to think about it.
But of course it happens, because old weapons show up everywhere at one point and someone manages to stab Lan Xichen. It’s pretty bad, bleeding quite heavily, and in reflex Lan Xichen changes into his other form.
It doesn’t help, because the injury is there, too, except that it’s a lot harder to find now and even harder to tend for.
Not that Jiang Cheng ever let that stop him, so he buckles down on being the best possible injury caretaker for his husband.
They decide that changing back is too much of a risk, so Jiang Cheng gets to spend his days being cuddled by all kinds of tentacles as if he’s the one in need of comfort and caretaking.
He has to locate the wound every day anew--he swears it changes place--and no wrapping holds, so Lan Xichen has to always press a cloth to the wound. It’s a very miserable time, all around, mostly because Jiang Cheng is quite shaken that something can hurt his husband.
Once the wound healed so far that it’s not in danger of popping open at any time, Lan Xichen gets to change back, but he doesn’t because tentacle hugs are still the best hugs, not only for Jiang Cheng.
Jin Ling and Lan Jingyi pretend that they are not relieved as hell that Lan Xichen is alright by loudly complaining about all the cuddling that is going on right in front of their salad them.

Ugh tags from @eldritch-bisexual just...
Tumblr media
I know this is just a cql thing because - as eldritch said - lhk is a fucking tree but...
short!NMJ has a bigger hobbit complex than JGY because BOTH of his parents AND grandparents were taller. So he's also one with (possibly) lifts in his shoes and wears the slightly taller headdress and ponytails. People know this but because he's still (without all that) 180ish cm (6ft for us stupid Americans) and he is still terrifying.

@lanzhanshands and I were having a conversation about LXC being everyone’s emergency contact and --
Jiang Cheng could understand Lan Jingyi. Not, like, in general-- kid talked up a storm and, as far as Jiang Cheng could tell, had never followed through on a thought in his life-- but he could understand why he'd put down his...uncle? How were the two of them related? Anyway, why he'd put Lan Xichen down as his emergency contact, while his parents were off on sabbatical. (Jiang Cheng was sure he'd heard that, somewhere. He'd never actually met Lan Jingyi's parents, come to think of it. Not that he needed to meet everyone, but….well, the world of modern cultivation tended to be fairly small, by necessity.) (Maybe he should look into that.) He could even understand Lan Sizhui-- his fathers were both terrible at picking up their phones, and tended towards the type of work besides that put them in deep secret locations with poor cell service and difficulty leaving in a hurry. A little unconventional, maybe, but hey, Jiang Cheng had had enough experience with the ways the conventional fell short of the necessary mark. What he didn't get was why-- "WEI YING! What the FUCK!"
"Ah! A-Cheng!" His brother had the grace to look guilty, at least-- unless that was just the pallor from the bloodloss. "What are you doing here?" "I'm dropping Jin Ling off, because his friends," Jiang Cheng said, stalking forward, "got sent to the ER, and I think now I have a good idea how."
"This one wasn't my idea!" Wei Ying held up his hands, pleading. His right arm was in a cast. Wei Ying saw Jiang Cheng glaring at it and hid it quickly under the scratchy-looking hospital sheet. "Ask them! I'm innocent!" "Sir, please stay still," said the nurse, attempting to fasten a blood pressure cuff around Wei Ying's flailing, un-broken arm. The man's name tag said his name was Wen Ning; the circles under his eyes said he'd been on shift for too many hours. Poor guy looked dead. How could he be sure he was doing things correctly, then? Jiang Chang eyed him suspiciously. "You could handcuff me to the bed," Wei Ying suggested cheerfully. The nurse paused, blinked slowly, and then resumed attempting to fasten the velcro cuff. Jiang Cheng opened his mouth to yell at his brother, because you shouldn't flirt with people at their jobs, and besides he had a husband, and-- and that was the whole point! "Why is he your emergency contact, and not the one you're married to?" Jiang Cheng said, waving a hand towards Lan Xichen. The man was standing at the end of Lan Sizuhi's bed, speaking with an intern with a clipboard. He was as serene and well-put-together as ever. Every time they were in the same room Jiang Cheng was painfully aware of how his hair never lay down flat, and his shirts always seemed to come untucked in the back. "Lan Zhan worries so much," Wei Ying said, pulling a face so sappy Jiang Cheng wanted to punch it off. Except there was a lot of bruising there already, kind of an alarming overripe fruit color, and couldn't he stay out of trouble for one week, one fucking week while Jiang Cheng tried to keep the sect from curdling around their ears? The nurse had progressed to tucking his stethoscope under the cuff and listening to his pulse, which greatly restricted the breadth of Wei Ying's gestures. Something in Jiang Cheng's chest squeezed, so tight it hurt. "And he gets all frowny, and I like it when he's frowny but not at me--" "THAT'S NOT A GOOD ENOUGH--" "Shhhh, no yelling," said Lan Jingyi from the next bed. He flapped his hands from beneath the tangle of arms caging him in. Jin Ling and that Ouyang kid seemed to have performed some eldritch summoning charm to allow them to stretch across the beds of both of their friends at the same time. The Ouyang kid had also procured handmade cards, which was impressive considering how little lead time he must've had. (Not that Jin Ling had told Jiang Cheng that he'd be picking up Ouyang Zizhen as well as him, on this one-of-too-many-before-it hospital trip. Because Jiang Cheng was apparently a chauffeur service for his nephew's friends now. Great.) (He remembered painfully what it had been like before Jin Ling had had any friends at all, and how much happier he was now. So what if he was a little indulgent? A-Ling deserved that!)
"They gave him a sedative," Lan Sizhui said apologetically, beneath his own multitudinous embrace. "I think it hit him pretty hard. He was going on about the new drama he's watching…" "Everyone should watch it," Lan Jingyi said, in a slow, sing-song voice. He opened his mouth, as if to yawn, and then frowned when nothing happened. He smacked his lips and tried again. And again. He was distracted from trying a fourth time by Jin Ling shoving a cup of water in his face. A bit forceful, maybe, considering how half of it slopped down Lan Jingyi's front, but Jiang Cheng figured his nephew had the right caring spirit. Lan Xichen's smile was beginning to look slightly concerned. "I wasn't aware your brother hadn't informed you he was in the hospital," he said to Jiang Cheng; ostensibly, it was a murmur, but the general noise of the ER around them made it closer to normal volume. "I apologize if I've overstepped." "You haven't," Jiang Cheng said automatically, because it was impossible to be rude to Lan Xichen without feeling some kind of guilty about it; it was like kicking a baby….small animal thing. Like a chipmunk? No, bigger than that. He sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose, blocking out the whole mess before him for a few blessed moments. When he opened his eyes again he discovered Wei Ying had taken those few moments to open a bag of vending machine gummy worms, one-handed, and spill them all over the bed. "Should you even be eating those?" Jiang Cheng asked, dodging Nurse Wen-- who had moved on to attempt the blood pressure cuff on Lan Jingyi, a better patient only in the context of having Wei Ying go before him-- and picking up the now-empty bag to check the label. Sugar dust poured out of the rip down the center, sticking to Jiang Cheng's hands. He sighed again, pointedly, at Wei Ying. "Mm-mm," said Wei Ying through a mouthful of gummy worms, shrugging. Jiang Cheng threw the bag at his face. It fluttered disappointingly through the air between them, coming to a gentle rest on Wei Ying's blanketed knee.
"If you don't want a Lan as your emergency contact, you could have just put me," Jiang Cheng said. He raised a hand as he saw Wei Ying's eyes bulge, mouth opening to show half-chewed gummies (gross). "Don't! Don't say anything! Whatever you're about to say, stop it!" "You do love me!" Wei Ying said anyway, in blatant disregard of Jiang Cheng's express orders. Jiang Cheng felt his face flush hot, and he stepped back as fast as he could, dodging the clumsy sweep of Wei Ying's arm. "A-Yuan, he's being mean to me," Wei Ying whined, turning on his side. He got caught on the tube from his IV; grumbling, Jiang Cheng moved to drape it safely over the back of his pillow. "I think you might deserve it this time, dad." "Hey! Hey!" "Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!" "Please stop moving, I'm almost finished I promise--"

thank you @rongzhi for the tag! : ) Sure took me long enough to get around to. Answering on my sideblog, where I post my writing.
Fic Writer Interview Game
tagging: @eldritch-elrics @gusu-emilu @qi-ling @novas-grimoire @scifikimmi if you want + anyone who writes! I’m not sure who writes. Please start a new post!
name: Katie
fandoms: Currently The Untamed + The Sleuth of the Ming Dynasty
two-shots:  You Look So Pretty With Blood On Your Face – or as I call it, dark XXC, where XXC finds out who Xue Yang is + gets infected by a malevolent energy that lets him take out his horror on the unsuspecting Xue Yang. Snuffsmut!
Looking back, “Draw the Curtain” should have been divided in two, but #hindsight
most popular multi-chapter fic: My most popular are generally one shots (Xuexiao Goes To The DMV was probably best received)
But for multichapter, it’s Fractured Ice (LXC + XY roadtrip, xuexiao/xiyao)
Consume Me Slowly is second most popular multichapter mostly by default. Also, rotsex is just irresistible!
actual worst part of writing: I used to write every. single. night. Then boom! pandemic, and suddenly I’m having trouble focusing. It’s very frustrating.
how you choose your titles: Titles are my bane. I’ve been going to the poetry/lyric well, and my usual blunt style still keeps popping up.
do you outline?: I have a vague idea, but generally all I need is an end point to work towards + some notes. I fully outlined a 13-chapter Madam Yu and Wen Zhuliu backstory fic, and I haven’t touched it in months. The mystery is all gone.
ideas you probably won't get around to, but wouldn't it be nice?: Realistically speaking, I won’t finish that Madam Yu fic : ( I really want to, though! Just…time and energy are lacking.
spicy tangential opinion: people should not be leaving critique or “I would have rather XYZ had happened!” on fic. Just keep your opinion to yourself, thank you very much.
callouts @ me: delete your old fics from FF.net already!
best writing traits: …um….I have written some strange things….nothing compared to what’s out there, but I think I’ve carved myself a little niche of questionable subject matter handled somewhat sensitively...is that a good trait? I mean, kinda? Or is it the opposite?

In the mood for...
~*~
1. In the mood for Wei Wuxian being raised as a fierce corpse like Wen Ning, so he has super strength and doesn't need to eat and all that. Anything past that can be a surprise: is he raised by the Wens and must fight against his friends? By the Jins when everyone else thinks he is dead? Does he somehow raise himself? Etc. Thank you!
to share this burden you must first live by shi_q1ngxuan (M, 3k, WangXian, JYL & WWX, Angst, Temporary Character Death, Golden Core Transfer, Fix-It of Sorts, Demonic Cultivator LWJ, Everybody Lives, except for wwx, Yúnmèng Siblings Feels, Is it really a happy ending if one of them is a corpse?, Character Study)
There Are More Than One Reason Undead Raise Series by Storyboradinventor (M/T, XuanLi, WangXian, JC & WWX, Undead!WWX, Angst, Canon Divergence, Undead!Yiling Patriarch, Sunshot Campaign, Bittersweet Ending, Some Humor)
❤️ A Corpse Called By Name by jaemyun (Not rated, 60k, wangxian, angst w/ happy ending, zombie apocalypse, zombie WWX, yunmeng trio) It's a modern setting and zombie apocalypse AU, so it's a bit different from what was asked. But it's a very good fic that does have wwx with super strength!
monsters cannot break her stride by Stratisphyre (G, 3k, WangXian, Canon Divergence, JYL Lives, outsider pov)
~*~
2. Hello!! Your blog is such a masterpiece, great public service, thank you so much!
Can we get some recs for fics where LWJ does get married during his years of waiting? Maybe for convenience, maybe by obligation to his clan... If Wei Wuxian is back it would be even more fun, but not necessary
Thank you! @eldritch-bisexual
The light of you will stay by orphan_account (M, 74k, wangxian, LWJ/OFC, arranged marriage, hurt/comfort, canonical character death, angst w/ happy ending, endgame wangxian)
Ghost Wedding by nirejseki (G, 4k, WangXian, Canon Divergence, Ghost wedding, Introspection, Crack Treated Seriously, mostly seriously anyway, Good Uncle LQR) does it count if it's Wei Ying's ghost he's marrying? 😅 then Ghost Marriage by Nirejseki fits
We can light a match and burn it down by Ibijau (T, 78k, WangXian, Arranged Marriage, Canonical Character Death, Angst, Pining, Canon Divergence, Morally Ambiguous Character, Friendship, platonic marriage, Open Marriage, Happy Ending)
alloy by darkredloveknot (enheduane) (E, 3k, WangJue, Background romantic wangxian, Lwj pines for and grieves wwx, Hook-Up, Grief/Mourning, Dirty Talk, NMJ POV, Bottom LWJ, Emotional Hurt/Comfort)
~*~
3. hi! i really like the absolute vibes of mdzs siblings being ride or die for each other, so i'd love (adore, really) some fics that demonstrate that? specifically like someone doing batshit stuff to keep their sibling safe (say like, cut out their core, or walk into enemy territory to seek the person who *checks notes* singlehandedly murdered a BUNCH of ppl with your surname, or like, that bridge scene in fatal journey i forgot a lil) i know this isn't rly a simple tag to search so thank you!!
Duel of the Twins by @theladyofravenclaw (T, 29k, wangxian, JYL/JZX, star wars au, scifi, major character death, canon-typical violence, mild gore, mild body horror, mentions of suicide, angst w/ happy ending, yunmeng siblings feels, twin prides of yunmeng angst, WIP)
~*~
4. Itmf your favorite fics of 2023 (or late 2022) so far! I feel like the newer fics always get buried by more well-known writers so I'd love to read great fics from lesser known writers that deserve some more love.
💙 Su She Eats his Heart Out by KizuKatana (T, 16k, WangXian, 3rd person pov, implied offscreen wangxian sex)
💙 Call again by apathyinreverie (T, 5k, wangxian, LXC & LWJ, LXC & WWX, modern, oblivious WWX, gremlin LXC, smitten LWJ, possessive LWJ, not Jiang friendly, hinst at mafia, fluff, romance)
💖 Paths untaken by apathyinreverie (T, 6k, wangxian, LSZ & WWX, canon divergence, fix-it, fluff, not cultivation world friendly, smitten LWJ)

Mud on Your Feet by AvoOwO (Not Rated, 59k, WangXian, Post-Canon, Sleepwalking, Sleeptalking, Angst, Insomnia, Delusions, Hurt WWX, Soft JC, Protective JC, Fluff, Angst with a happy ending, PTSD)
~*~
5. Also itmf really good long fics! Ones that have great world building and character arcs, just an epic tale, the kind that you put down and just go wow. Preferably completed fics but I'm also okay with WIPS if they've not been abandoned.
I usually mean long by like...looooong so anywheres around 80k to start. But for that one I was more looking for good plot/worldbuilding, which can be done in shorter fics! So as long as that's there (that feeling of "omg this world is amazing and full and I want to live here") I think the rec would be great! (The more fics the better tbh 😌)
💙 Song Unwritten by Kytrin & Mslead (E, 94k, wangxian, temporary character death, angst w/ happy ending, fix-it of sorts, cql meets mdzs, parallel universes, transmigration, yiling wei sect au, YLLZ WWX)

10. Hello! Hope you doing fine!
A) I've been thinking about swords in mdzs, in particular about how jl inherited suihua and now I'm in the mood for a fic where wwx passes suibian to wield to someone. Preferably Lan/Wei/Wen Sizhui or another kid whom he adopted or accepted as a disciple, just want to see him pass on his legacy as a once a great swordsman in the form of suibian to someone who makes him proud
B) Also it'll be cool if there was a fic where he gets to inherit his parents swords, either his mother's or father's or both even

13. Okay, thought might be too specific and not exist, but I’m in the mood for a fun fic of teenage cloud recesses era defense of WWX’s honor, after Lan Zhan makes a move. Preferably with Jiang Cheng being a good brother and also in an absolute tizzy. And like it was all totally consensual and actually pretty tame, but Lan Zhan was being a Top, and they were being their WangXian selves so it’s very much like “Lan Wangji you must take responsibility!” Maybe other Jiang family members show up at the lectures since it’s kind of an inter-sect incident at that point. Just cloud recesses era defense of Wei wuxians honor. (Not looking for any non-con or anything too explicit, just like, young love) Thank you for everything you do! @fibbunny
SIMILAR! could you find a way to let me down slowly, if you're leaving baby let me down slowly by ravenditefairylights (M, 36k, WangXian, Canon Divergence, Golden Core Reveal, Implied/Referenced Sex, Miscommunication, Somebody Lives/Not Everyone Dies, Emotional Hurt/Comfort, Angst with a Happy Ending, Twin Prides of Yúnmèng Dynamics, Hurt WWX, Mutual Pining, Unreliable Narrator, Self-Esteem Issues, Twin Prides of Yúnmèng Feels, Protective Siblings, Trauma, Slightly dubious consent, courtesy of drunk sex, Inventor WWX, Genius WWX, Phoenix Mountain, Chronic Pain, Getting Together, Fix-It of Sorts, One Braincell Trio, PTSD)

16. Hi there! I love what you guys do so much. I am in the mood for a fic where Mo Xuanyu is also a major character. I just want some good recommendations with mxy in them as well bc I love seeing how different authors write him. I am willing to read fics that have him together with Wangxian, but that is not necessary. Sorry if this is a weird request but I would appreciate help finding new fics. Thanks so much! 💜 @flamboyantly-asexual

MDZS Fic Rec List 2/∞
Just some more of my fav fics. Sorry I keep putting WIP fics on these lists but I love making myself wait for updates.
Part 1
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
to victory belongs by yonaka_tan (T, WIP, Wangxian & MXY/LJY)
Oof. This fic. I love MXY so much and I think he deserves so much love. And that is what this fic is doing for him. Giving him the love he deserves. This author is doing a fantastic job keeping everyone in character and even the few OC characters they’ve added just feel like they belong in the MDZS world. There are a few trigger warnings but the author has them all tagged and also mentions them in the notes on the chapters that require them. Just read it okay.
Until It’s Dark by suzvoy (M, WIP but almost finished, Wangxian)
I’m a sucker for any fic that has the whole golden core issue at its heart and this one sucked me right in. As I read this one I began to worry that I wouldn’t like the direction the author was going with how they characterized LWJ but I fell in love with his character development. This fic has a little angst but also so much fluff it almost suffocation (but it’s not. I love it).
Something Yet to Learn by Glitterbombshell (T, Complete, Wangxian)
Teacher WWX. Another weakness of mine. LQR having to rely on WWX for help? another weakness. This fic hist all the right spots for me in terms of a lighthearted fluff fic with a lil bit of angst sprinkled on top, as a treat. Only 4 chapters long its a quick read but oh so satisfying. I really do hope the author comes back to this or writes a sequel.
Eldritch!Lans AU Series by syriala (G, Oneshots, JC/LXC, Wangxian, LJY/LSH)
Oh my goooooooood. These fics. So so so amazing I could die. I didn’t realize how much I needed some good LXC/JC content in my life until these fics and damn if the author didn’t deliver. Also, Eldritch creatures? Definitely something I didn't know I needed until I read these fics. And now I just want so much more of this universe the author has created. So far there’s 8 parts of this series though almost all of them can be read as stand alones. The only one I haven’t read is the JingYi/Sizhui pairing one as that is not a ship I particularly like though I have no doubt that one is just as good as the other 7 fics. The author is here on tumblr, lurking.
Just the sight of you (is getting the best out of me) by Ibijau (E, WIP, Jin Ling/Lan Sizhui, background Wangxian)
This one I read when it was just a wee one shot and then the author gave us a gift of another chapter. This one can still be read as a one-shot as the rest of the chapters are kinda just extras and a look into other characters POV’s during the main events. It is a A/B/O fic and i have to admit, I basically never touch these fics. But this one? Killed me. Lots of pining and the author lets Sizhui bottom which I don't often see in this pairing (which is really weird to me considering their personalities but that’s neither here nor there). This fic is mostly in the POV of Jin Ling and I loved his character growth and all the interactions he had with not only Jiang Cheng but Wei Wuxian as well. All in all a good solid read if you're in the mood for a bit of pining and angst.

A good, protective monster
I wanted to write a protective, deadly Lan Xichen for a while, and then I thought why not add this to my Eldritch!AU. So have Eldritch!lxc losing his shit over JC being hurt. (Yes, WWX knows, stay stuned for the fic tomorrow) Previous Part
One moment everything is alright.
Sandu is singing in Jiang Cheng’s hand while Zidian crackles in the other, and the last few remnants of those loyal to Jin Guangyao barely even get close to them. Jiang Cheng knows he and Lan Xichen won’t have much difficulties defeating them.
The next moment, everything is very much not alright.
There’s a sword sticking out of Jiang Cheng’s stomach. He didn’t see the man approach him from behind, he didn’t hear the singing of that sword and now he’s paying the price for it.
He let’s out a pained grunt before he jerks himself forward, dislodging the sword that was stuck through his back, and when he stumbles, he turns himself around, whipping Zidian in time with his stumbling and hitting the man square in the chest.
It’s the last thing he does, because he can’t seem to find his footing afterwards, and sinking down to the floor seems like the easier option.
“Xichen,” Jiang Cheng mutters, blood already staining his robes and the ground he’s kneeling on as he bends forward.
Together, they could have easily defeated these man. Jiang Cheng isn’t so sure Lan Xichen can manage on his own.
“Xichen,” he says louder, tries to bring attention to himself, so Lan Xichen knows his back is no longer protected, and Jiang Cheng can tell the exact moment Lan Xichen finally notices what happened.
There’s a shift and suddenly the whole clearing goes cold.
“Wanyin,” Lan Xichen breathes out and he rushes to his side, Jiang Cheng sees that much, before the world tilts and he drops onto his shoulder.
Laying down might be better than keeping himself up. There’s a coldness spreading out from his stomach, and Jiang Cheng presses his hand to the wound. He can feel the blood, hot and slick, seep through his fingers, but he knows it won’t be deadly. It can’t be.
He refuses to die.
“Wanyin,” Lan Xichen says again as he drops to his knees next to Jiang Cheng, hands outstretched and shaking, and Jiang Cheng manages something approaching a smile.
He’s not sure the blood in his mouth is helping.
“It’ll be alright,” Jiang Cheng gets out, and before Lan Xichen can protests, one of the men comes up behind him, sword raised and clearly certain that he gets to end Lan Xichen’s life then and there.
Not on Jiang Cheng’s watch.
“Careful,” Jiang Cheng rushes out and pushes himself up from the ground to slam his hand into Lan Xichen’s chest, pushing him out of the way of the descending sword.
He saved Lan Xichen, like he calculated. He did not calculate that the sword will bite into his own arm.
Jiang Cheng clenches his teeth so he doesn’t scream, but the pain in his arm is almost worse than the one in his stomach.
Lan Xichen stares at him with big, wide eyes, before everything seems to suddenly slow down. And then Lan Xichen explodes.
Jiang Cheng has never seen him change his form this quickly, this explosively, but in one moment Lan Xichen is still staring at him, and in the next there is a writhing, furious black in the clearing. Eyes appear all over Lan Xichen, so many more than Jiang Cheng is used to, and the sound that fills the air is pure and unadulterated rage.
Jiang Cheng was under the assumption that Lan Xichen, while not having a completely fixed form, has a fixed mass, but clearly he was wrong with that. Lan Xichen grows bigger and bigger, right in front of Jiang Cheng’s eyes, and it doesn’t seem to stop.
Jiang Cheng can hear the men scream in terror, can see more than one drop his sword and run away in fear, but none of them make it far.
Lan Xichen reaches out with his tentacles, crushes them with barely any effort at all, like it seems, and some he just slams into the ground, only to leave a barely recognizable mess behind. And all the while the sound gets louder and louder, making many of the men bend over in pain, hands clutched to their heads before at least two drop dead simply from the enraged shout Lan Xichen lets out.
It’s not much of a fair fight at all.
Jiang Cheng has barely pushed himself into a sitting position, arm cradled close to his stomach to at least slow the blood flow on both wounds, when the fight is already over and the last man dead.
Still, Lan Xichen continues to writhe in the clearing, tentacles lashing out at random, and Jiang Cheng is sure that more than one tree is taking some serious damage during this.
“Xichen,” he calls out, but he can barely hear his own voice over the continuous wrathful scream.
He tries to reach out for Lan Xichen, but he’s too far out of reach, even though Jiang Cheng is somewhat protectively surrounded on all sides, and Jiang Cheng very much does not feel like getting up, even though his core works furiously on keeping the wounds shut so he doesn’t die of blood loss.
“Jiang Cheng!” Wei Wuxian suddenly calls out right next to him and Jiang Cheng sighs when he sees Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji at his side. He didn’t even notice them arriving.
“Get him to calm down, would you!” Jiang Cheng snaps at Lan Wangji, hoping Lan Wangji can hear him over the noise, who levels him with a look but Jiang Cheng is beyond caring and just points an accusing finger at Lan Xichen. “He’s going to destroy this clearing!”
Lan Wangji leaves them after one last warning look at Jiang Cheng and going by the pressure change, Lan Wangji changed forms as well.
There’s a second, much more soothing noise filling the clearing and even Jiang Cheng can tell that it has a calming quality to it.
“Let’s get this looked at,” Wei Wuxian cheerfully says, and while Jiang Cheng is beyond glad that he can hear something else than Lan Xichen’s scream, he leans away from Wei Wuxian.
“Thanks, but I’ll wait for the healers in the Cloud Recesses,” Jiang Cheng tells him, completely immune by now to the pout Wei Wuxian sends him.
“You could die by then!” Wei Wuxian calls out, and Lan Xichen immediately grows agitated again, even going so far as to push Wei Wuxian away from Jiang Cheng as if he needed protecting from his own brother.
“Xichen,” Jiang Cheng tries again, now that Lan Xichen is a lot closer, and when he’s cradled close by one of the many tentacles, Jiang Cheng puts a soothing hand on him.
Lan Wangji appears next to Wei Wuxian again, in his human form and his hand on the hilt of Bichen, levelling Jiang Cheng with a look that can cut through ice.
“What?” Jiang Cheng snaps out, beyond tired that they really have to do this here, now, while he’s bleeding out and in pain.
“Do not touch him,” Lan Wangji threatens him and Jiang Cheng slides his hand possessively over Lan Xichen’s tentacle.
“Or what?” he demands to know, because he doubts Lan Xichen would even let Lan Wangji get close to him right now.
“Do not hurt him,” Lan Wangji changes tactics, and Jiang Cheng sighs.
Lan Xichen told him that Lan Wangji is apparently convinced that one day Jiang Cheng will kill them all for daring to be different, and while this is a conversation he is dying to have with Lan Wangji, he really cannot be bothered right now.
“Why don’t you just fuck off,” Jiang Cheng snaps at Lan Wangji, prompting Lan Xichen to push his own brother further away from Jiang Cheng.
And while Jiang Cheng is greatly enjoying that, he knows Lan Xichen will feel bad about that once he has a clear head again.
“Xichen,” Jiang Cheng tries again, and while this time at least his voice can be heard, Lan Xichen isn’t reacting to him at all.
“A-Huan,” he tries again, and that finally gets Lan Xichen to still.
He shrinks down to the size Jiang Cheng is used to and almost half of the eyes disappear as Lan Xichen wraps himself around Jiang Cheng, continuing to protect him from a danger that is no longer there.
“You’ve been a very good, protective monster, but now I need you to change back,” Jiang Cheng lowly tells him as he pets the tentacle around his middle, but Lan Xichen lets out a high whine that tells Jiang Cheng exactly what Lan Xichen thinks about leaving him defenceless.
“There’s nothing here that’s a danger to me, not anymore, you made sure of that,” Jiang Cheng says, and he blinks in surprise when Lan Xichen flinches.
“What?” Jiang Cheng mutters and he instinctively curls his good arm around Lan Xichen’s tentacle when he tries to retract it.
“What the fuck do you think you’re doing?” he demands to know, but Lan Xichen only lets out the same sound again, so Jiang Cheng slaps him lightly.
“Change back and use your words,” he says with a stern glare, and he is entirely unimpressed when Lan Xichen doesn’t react to that at all.
Before Jiang Cheng can explode, he takes a deep breath, aggravating his stomach wound in the process again, and while it hurts like a bitch he’s rewarded when Lan Xichen comes closer to him again.
“A-Huan, I need you to change back to fly me to the Cloud Recesses. I need medical attention and I cannot fly my own sword,” Jiang Cheng tries, keeping his voice soothing and even and he knows he has won when a shudder goes through Lan Xichen’s form.
He still fights the change for a while longer, but in the end, Jiang Cheng is held close by a very human Lan Xichen.
“I’m sorry,” he mutters, and Jiang Cheng frowns up at him.
“For what?” he demands to know and Lan Xichen doesn’t meet his eyes.
Jiang Cheng doesn’t like it.
“That you had to see that. That I lost control like this. I don’t—” Lan Xichen trails off and Jiang Cheng blinks in surprise at him.
“You think I’m afraid of you?” he incredulously asks, because he can damn well fill in the blanks, and Lan Xichen’s eyes snap to his.
It’s all the answer he needs.
“You think I wouldn’t lose my entire shit if you were hurt?” Jiang Cheng presses out. “Just because you turn into a bigger and badder version of yourself doesn’t mean I wouldn’t act in the same way, just on a smaller scale.”
“I killed them all,” Lan Xichen mutters and Jiang Cheng looks around the clearing.
They are all very much dead, yes.
“And good riddance,” Jiang Cheng harshly gives back and then raises his good arm to cradle Lan Xichen’s cheek in his hand. “I am not afraid of you and I am not judging you. Now, please, can you get me to a healer, I do feel a bit faint,” Jiang Cheng says and suddenly Lan Xichen becomes animated again.
“Of course, my heart,” he says as he carefully picks Jiang Cheng up from the ground, cradling him close to his chest as he steps onto Shuoyue.
Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian are still watching them, Jiang Cheng can tell, but he barely spares them a glance. He cannot tear his eyes off Lan Xichen.
There’s not a hair out of place, no blood marring his features, even though the clearing looks like a giant decided to dig it over. Jiang Cheng knows, rationally, that he should be afraid of Lan Xichen and what he is, what he can do, but even now, he cannot bring himself to do that.
Lan Xichen did this to protect him and Jiang Cheng cannot find it in him to mind that.
“Wake me when we’re there, okay?” Jiang Cheng mutters as he rests his head on Lan Xichen’s shoulders.
His golden core kept him together until now, but Jiang Cheng can feel it being drained, knows that the pain and the blood loss will finally get to him, and he’d rather be not awake for that.
“No no no, my love, you have to stay awake,” Lan Xichen whispers, pressing kisses to his forehead. “No sleeping until we reach the Cloud Recesses.”
“Tired now.”
“You can sleep later, I promise, but right now you have to stay awake,” Lan Xichen says, and it’s the pure panic in his voice that forces Jiang Cheng to open his eyes again.
“You’re a menace,” Jiang Cheng complains and while Lan Xichen still seems strained and worried, he smiles down at him.
“Tell me all about it,” Lan Xichen cajoles and Jiang Cheng narrows his eyes at him.
He knows exactly what Lan Xichen is doing.
“You’re rude for not letting me sleep, and stupid for thinking I would be afraid of you, and idiotic for thinking I don’t love you more than my life, and also rude,” Jiang Cheng says, though he’s aware he’s babbling more than forming actual sentences.
“For not letting you sleep, noted,” Lan Xichen gives back with a chuckle and then they are already descending.
“Time to sleep then,” Jiang Cheng mutters and snuggles closer to Lan Xichen.
This time, the darkness claims him.
~*~*~
When Jiang Cheng wakes up, he’s in the hanshi, Lan Xichen hovering at his side and generally looking like he didn’t sleep at all in the last however many days it has been.
“You’re an idiot,” Jiang Cheng says with a groan and Lan Xichen nods.
“And rude, I remember,” he immediately says and Jiang Cheng smiles.
“Good,” he gives back and then holds his hand out for Lan Xichen to take. “I’m okay.”
“I was scared,” Lan Xichen lowly says as he presses a kiss to Jiang Cheng’s palm.
“I could tell,” Jiang Cheng says with a nod and cups Lan Xichen’s face when he seems worried by that. “And I don’t mind,” Jiang Cheng says, again if memory serves him right.
He tries to push himself up, but pain laces sharp and bright through him and he falls back onto the bed with a hiss.
Lan Xichen shoots up from his stool and Jiang Cheng can tell that his control seems to still hang on a very thin thread, because there are definitely tentacles coming out of his back.
“I’m okay,” Jiang Cheng says again, because he’s not dead, and really, that’s all that matters.
“You might have not been,” Lan Xichen gives back, and Jiang Cheng rolls his eyes at him.
If they dealt in might have’s and could have’s they would both lose their sanity.
“But I am, and thanks to you,” Jiang Cheng tells him, his voice leaving no room for argument. “What’s the damage?”
“Stab wound in the stomach, deep cut on your arm. You’ll heal up just fine, I’ve been told, as long as you keep to your rest,” Lan Xichen informs him and Jiang Cheng smiles at him.
“I very much feel like standing up. Maybe I need someone to make sure I stay in bed,” he teasingly says and he really hates the surprised look on Lan Xichen’s face.
They had already been past this uncertainty on Lan Xichen’s part, and Jiang Cheng will not allow it to come back.
“And by someone I mean you, and preferably not in your human form,” he clearly states and Lan Xichen ducks his head.
“Are you sure?” he asks and Jiang Cheng sighs.
“Are you going to deny the patient the one thing that will make sure he heals up just fine?”
“The one thing?” Lan Xichen asks, confusion clear on his face and Jiang Cheng rolls his eyes.
“My boyfriend and his many many very good at hugging tentacles,” he gives back and Lan Xichen huffs out a laugh.
“You’re shameless,” Lan Xichen whispers, but he’s getting up and Jiang Cheng knows he has won.
“Shamelessly in love maybe,” he says with a shrug, because what does he care about anything else but Lan Xichen by his side.
“I love you, too,” Lan Xichen says and catches his lips in a soft, slow kiss, before he slides under the covers with Jiang Cheng.
He doesn’t change, not completely, but there are a few tentacles coming out to wrap around Jiang Cheng, causing him to go boneless against Lan Xichen’s chest.
“This is the best,” Jiang Cheng mutters as his eyes already drift shut.
He has a lot of sleeping to do, and with Lan Xichen wrapped securely and warmly around him, it’s easy to get started on that right away.

Untamed Winter Fest Day 10
Glow
This is inspired by the Eldritch!Lan AU back on @angstymdzsthoughts and it was a delight to play in this sandbox (I might do some Zhuiyi later because I love this AU)
When Jiang Cheng wakes up, he’s immediately alert.
He doesn’t wake up during the night; he always sleeps like a log, so when he blinks awake and notices that it’s still pitch dark outside, the adrenaline spikes hard.
He calms his breathing, tries to listen for anything that could have woke him up, but he finds only silence, can’t even hear the soft breathing of Lan Xichen, who should be next to him in bed.
Jiang Cheng carefully turns his head, maybe the absence of his boyfriend is what woke him up, but when he looks at Lan Xichen’s side, he’s met with something so dark it even stands out against the darkness of the night.
There’s a void next to him in bed and Jiang Cheng throws himself out of it, Zidian already crackling and sparking, illuminating the room in a faint purple.
Jiang Cheng can see the black mass jerk, as if it was startled, and then eyes appear on the shapeless form. A cold shudder runs down Jiang Cheng’s back when more and more eyes open, too many to count, all over the blackness, and they all must glow, emit their own light, because the room gets brighter and brighter with every eye that is opened.
And it just doesn’t stop.
Jiang Cheng thinks there must be eyes on every inch of that black void, and his heart goes into overdrive.
The monster is laying where Lan Xichen should be. If it hurt him, Jiang Cheng will find every single eye on that thing and squeeze them out.
The black thing suddenly becomes agitated, Jiang Cheng can see some kind of tentacles move, and it shakes him with how wrong it seems. There are too many eyes and tentacles and limbs, and his brain has a hard time processing it all.
Suddenly a sound fills the room; Jiang Cheng can’t see a mouth on the thing, doesn’t know where it comes from, but it fills every inch of the room, putting an immense pressure on his head. It almost sounds like a whine, low and distressed, but it’s also sparking an intense headache, so Jiang Cheng only cares for it to stop.
Zidian comes alive in his hand, whip uncurling and slightly moving against the floor, though Jiang Cheng still hesitates. There are just too many limbs.
And then, suddenly, everything stops. The whine fades out, the limbs still and the eyes close one after another, until only two are left. A ripple goes through the form, a sound like a sigh coming from it, and then, in a move that almost makes Jiang Cheng go insane with its impossibility, the black thing reshapes to take the form of Lan Xichen.
“Jiang Cheng,” he rasps out, trepidation and fear clear on his face, and Jiang Cheng knows it wasn’t a trick of light or whatever.
Lan Xichen is not as human as he made Jiang Cheng believe.
Jiang Cheng continues to stare at Lan Xichen’s pleading face for a very long moment, before he calls Zidian back, turns around and leaves.
Lan Xichen is a monster. That’s the only thought in his head; his memory helpfully replaying the sight of that eye-covered, tentacled void next to him in bed over and over again and Jiang Cheng feels sick.
Lan Xichen lied to him all this time.
Jiang Cheng’s mind is whirring, wonders if it’s just Lan Xichen or if it’s a Lan thing in general, and he briefly fears for his brother. Hopefully Wei Wuxian is safe. He married one of the Lan’s after all.
Jiang Cheng shakes his head at that thought; Wei Wuxian can take care of himself. What’s more important is that a monster is lose in Lotus Pier and it needs to be stopped, before it can hurt anyone.
Jiang Cheng has barely thought that when he stops dead in his tracks.
If Lan Xichen has been like this all the time, then he has never done anything to hurt Jiang Cheng or anyone else in Lotus Pier.
Lan Xichen has been nothing but doting and sweet; he cares for Jiang Cheng as much as he does for everyone else of this clan and if he really, truly is a monster, then it doesn’t make sense.
Jiang Cheng grinds his teeth together as he balls his fists, because it doesn’t change anything.
Lan Xichen lied to him all this time.
For good reason, a traitorous voice in his head says, and Jiang Cheng has to admit that it might be right.
If this is how Jiang Cheng reacts to this secret, then it’s no wonder Lan Xichen tried to keep it hidden.
Jiang Cheng huffs out an angry breath as he turns around and storms back to his room. He deserves an explanation, and by the ancestors, he will get one, even if he has to face Lan Xichen in that other form again.
When he throws the door to his room open, he hesitates in the doorway when he sees Lan Xichen pack his things.
“What are you doing?” he snaps out, and Lan Xichen whirls around, clearly taken by surprise that Jiang Cheng is back so soon.
“Preparing for the inevitable,” Lan Xichen tells him with a small, sad smile. “I’m sorry.”
“So it was you,” Jiang Cheng says, because that apology clearly is a confession as well. “It wasn’t just a trick of light, or something else stealing your shape. It was you.”
“Yes,” Lan Xichen admits, and he’s not meeting Jiang Cheng’s eyes.
He distantly wonders what happened to all his other eyes.
“You’re not human,” Jiang Cheng states the obvious and Lan Xichen flinches under his words as if he’s been hit with Zidian.
Jiang Cheng is only met with silence, though he doesn’t expect an answer.
“Is it just you, or is it everyone in your clan?” Jiang Cheng asks, and the Sect Leader part of him wonders if they could take the Lan Clan if all of them are like this.
“No Lan has ever been born human,” Lan Xichen lowly admits and the admission sends a shiver down Jiang Cheng’s back.
He gives himself a moment to process that answer, before his brain turns into an unsuspected direction.
“Your mother was human,” he says and suddenly it makes a lot more sense, the unhappy marriage Lan Xichen has told him about.
Lan Xichen merely nods at that.
“But she loved you regardless,” Jiang Cheng goes on, because he remembers how Lan Xichen talked about her.
“On the days where she could forget what we were,” Lan Xichen lowly admits. “She tried her best, but there were days where she could barely look at us. Days, where she wouldn’t even touch us. It got better once Wangji learned to control his form, but it was never easy.”
“What are you?” Jiang Cheng wants to know but Lan Xichen helplessly shrugs.
“We have no language. There is no word for what we are. I think our Ancestor tried to give us one, but the best he could do was Lan.”
Jiang Cheng is silent for a moment before he looks to the side as he asks his next question.
“Do you sleep like that every night?”
Jiang Cheng doesn’t know what Lan Xichen sees on his face, but he sucks in a surprised, pained breath before he shakes his head.
“I’m usually a lot better of keeping to this form,” he admits. “I don’t know what happened.”
“Would you have told me?” Jiang Cheng wants to know, though he knows the answer and he tries his best to not let that sting.
He thought they had more trust in their relationship.
“Eventually,” Lan Xichen says, effectively catching Jiang Cheng off guard. “I would have told you before I asked you to marry me. My mother—she only found out afterwards, and I would never do that to you.”
Jiang Cheng can only nod at that, too surprised that Lan Xichen has even thought so far yet to form any coherent words.
Apparently the silence is too long for Lan Xichen, because he nods once, almost to himself, before he grabs his pouch and picks up Liebing.
“I’m going to leave now,” he whispers and then looks back up at Jiang Cheng. “Please don’t tell anyone. We have never hurt anyone, we’re not a danger to you or the other sects. We just wish to live in peace.”
Jiang Cheng’s heart is beating wildly in his chest, an immense pressure building up at the thought of Lan Xichen leaving, and he blurts out the first thing that comes to his mind.
“How many eyes do you have?”
Lan Xichen stops in his tracks, blinking at him in clear confusion.
“As many as I need,” he eventually says and Jiang Cheng tries to imagine how he just wills more eyes to appear, but his imagination fails him.
Lan Xichen waits for a moment, clearly expecting more questions, but when none come, he resumes his walking.
Jiang Cheng takes a moment to imagine it, Lan Xichen leaving his life never to return, and he is surprised at how much it hurts. He doesn’t want to live without Lan Xichen by his side, no matter what he is.
Jiang Cheng doubts Lan Xichen lied to him about his feelings; he remembers every kiss and every whispered “I love you”, and he never detected any insincerity in it. Though, given how successfully Lan Xichen kept this secret from him, it might not mean anything.
“Did you lie to me all this time?” Jiang Cheng blurts out, just as Lan Xichen reaches the door and he turns around with an incredulous look on his face.
“I didn’t just turn like this last night,” Lan Xichen gives back and Jiang Cheng shakes his head.
“No, not about that,” he tries to explain. “About your feelings. Did you lie when you said you loved me?” he asks, and suddenly he wishes he could take it back, doesn’t want to know the truth.
If Lan Xichen says yes, Jiang Cheng will break, he knows it.
“Never,” Lan Xichen says with vehemence. “I have never lied to you about that, Jiang Cheng. I love you. We might not have a language, but we do feel. And I feel so much for you.”
Jiang Cheng staggers slightly, he’s so relieved, but then he straightens back up. Lan Xichen is still hovering at the door, clearly uncertain if he should leave now, and Jiang Cheng wants to call him back so desperately.
He doesn’t want Lan Xichen to leave.
“Can I see?” he lowly asks and Lan Xichen jerks with his question.
“See what?” he carefully asks as his hand drops from the door completely.
“Your form. What you truly are.”
“You already did,” Lan Xichen reminds him but Jiang Cheng shakes his head.
“I saw something where I expected my boyfriend to be. I have not seen you.”
“I don’t know—,” Lan Xichen starts and trails off when Jiang Cheng shakes his head.
“Xichen, please. Let me see.”
Lan Xichen works his jaw for a moment, before he nods, once and sharp, and walks back into the room.
Jiang Cheng quickly wonders if they have to light some candles for him to see better, but by now it’s light outside and he should see just fine.
“Don’t watch the transformation. It’s hard for the human brain to process,” Lan Xichen instructs him and while Jiang Cheng all too clearly recalls the sickening feeling of his brain trying to put the view in front of him into an understandable shape, he shakes his head.
He has to see, in order to fully believe it.
“Fine,” Lan Xichen huffs out and then, without warning, his shape ripples before it expands into something else.
It hurts Jiang Cheng’s brain just as much as the first time, but he keeps his eyes on Lan Xichen, watches him grow and twist into his true form.
The daylight just makes it more pronounced just how black Lan Xichen is like this; it’s not the absence of light, it’s more like he’s emitting the dark, and it’s eating any light that touches it. Jiang Cheng can’t make out a head, wouldn’t even know where to start with the fluidly changing shape in front of him.
He watches tentacles grow and disappear again, an ever-moving void where once Lan Xichen stood and Jiang Cheng shakes his head at that.
It’s still Lan Xichen. And he’s holding back.
“Show me,” Jiang Cheng demands, again, and the whole mass halts, before it slightly crumbles, something resembling a sigh filling the whole room, and then the eyes blink open again and the tentacles spread out even farther.
This time Jiang Cheng takes his time to look at the eyes, really look at them, and while there are still too many for him to be entirely comfortable, now he can see that they all have Lan Xichen’s eye color, even though they are not all of the same shape.
They truly must glow, because they cause something like a halo to form around the pitch-black mass, and it makes the darkness glitter and gleam, almost like oil on water.
If Jiang Cheng is honest, it’s kind of beautiful.
He takes a deep breath and then starts to walk around Lan Xichen. He doesn’t turn with him, doesn’t have to with eyes all over his body, but Jiang Cheng knows that he’s watching his every move very closely.
Jiang Cheng wonders if Lan Xichen will compress himself into his human form again, if he should find a trace of disgust or hate on Jiang Cheng’s face.
Jiang Cheng unconsciously reaches out and the mass in front of him jerks back, causing Jiang Cheng to take his hand back.
“Can I touch?” he asks, waits patiently for permission, even though now that the thought has entered his head, his fingers itch with the need to reach out.
There’s a new sound in the air, something almost questioning and Jiang Cheng shrugs.
“I saw, and now I want to touch,” he explains and the sound stops.
Neither of them move for the longest time, but then, finally, Lan Xichen uncurls one of his many tentacles and brings it closer to Jiang Cheng.
Jiang Cheng holds out his hand, waits for the tentacle to brush over his skin before he turns his hand and touches his fingertips to the too smooth surface.
He slides his hand up and down, mesmerized by the feel of it, by the sight of his pale hand against black so dark it swallows everything, and he can’t help the fascinated smile on his face.
Jiang Cheng startles slightly when an eye blinks open next to his hand and he laughs as he lightly slaps the tentacle, careful not to hit the eye.
“You did that on purpose,” he accuses Lan Xichen, who somehow manages to get a bashful shrug across, even in this form.
Jiang Cheng can feel some smaller tentacles touch his legs, his back, curious and light in their exploration, and he wonders if he feels different to Lan Xichen in this form.
Before Jiang Cheng can think too much about it, he takes determined steps forward, right into the ever-moving blackness of his boyfriend.
He had thought it would be terrifying, being swallowed by this much darkness, but it’s not. It’s warm and protected and Jiang Cheng sinks into Lan Xichen with a smile, trusts his boyfriend to catch him, and he does.
It’s not at all like falling into a soft bed, but it’s the best comparison Jiang Cheng is capable of making and when the tentacles hesitantly embrace him, he lets himself go boneless.
He isn’t sure how he knows, but he can feel how much Lan Xichen loves him and when another eye blinks into existence next to his head, he isn’t even surprised anymore.
“I love you,” he sighs out as he nuzzles into the tentacles all around him and when Lan Xichen takes his human form this time, it barely even hurts his brain anymore.
“I love you, too,” Lan Xichen tells him and leans down to press a kiss to Jiang Cheng’s forehead.
“I could feel that,” Jiang Cheng contentedly tells him and only looks back at Lan Xichen when he lets out a soft “Oh”.
“You didn’t know about that?”
“I have never held a human like this, never allowed anyone to see my true form after mother,” Lan Xichen admits and Jiang Cheng is surprised at how pleased he is by that admission.
How possessive, as well.
“Is it strange for you, to take this human form?” Jiang Cheng wants to know and slightly pulls away from Lan Xichen, who takes a second to think about that question.
“It’s not strange, per se. I feel—compressed, like too much of my mass has to fit into this tiny space,” he finally says and to Jiang Cheng it feels like he’s trying the words out, to see how much they actually fit, but in the end Lan Xichen nods. “It’s not bad, though.”
“You can be who you are around me whenever you like,” Jiang Cheng offers him, and he’s startled to see the tears in Lan Xichen’s eyes.
“Thank you,” Lan Xichen breathes, as he pulls him close, presses him to his chest and doesn’t let him go for the longest time.
Jiang Cheng just puts his arms around him as well, knows Lan Xichen is thanking him for more than just the offer and he hates to think that Lan Xichen was so afraid of showing this to him.
When Jiang Cheng feels some tentacles join in on their hug, he just smiles into Lan Xichen’s chest, as he offers one of his hands, which one of the many tentacles wraps around immediately.
It’s like being hugged and holding hands all at once and Jiang Cheng loves it.
He knows they have to talk about this some more, there are still questions Jiang Cheng has, but for now, he just enjoys being held and being loved by his not-at-all-monstrous boyfriend.

Untamed Winter Fest Day 24
Anticipation
More Eldritch!Lan Xicheng AU, because @renazerosart makes a very good argument, with that bribe ;) Previous part
It has been almost a week since Jiang Cheng found out about Lan Xichen’s true nature. A week where the anticipation of another talk has almost killed Lan Xichen only for it to never happen.
Jiang Cheng is his usual affectionate self—as much as he ever is—but he hasn’t brought the topic up again. He also hasn’t asked to see Lan Xichen in his true form again, and Lan Xichen doesn’t know what to make of that.
He tries to reassure himself that Jiang Cheng is still the same; he comes to bed at night and they kiss, like nothing has changed, but Lan Xichen can’t believe that.
Jiang Cheng is busy, Lan Xichen knows that, Sect Leader Yao annoying Jiang Cheng with the smallest things, but they still do have enough time to talk about the thing standing between them. Or at least they would have, if Jiang Cheng really wanted to talk about it.
But clearly he doesn’t, and Lan Xichen doesn’t know how to handle that. He needs his sect, his brother, and he’s packing his things before he even finishes that thought. When Jiang Cheng doesn’t walk in on him like the last time, Lan Xichen goes to find him instead.
“Jiang Cheng,” he says to get his attention when he finds him in his study and Jiang Cheng looks up from the letter he was studying.
“Are you going somewhere?” he asks after roaming his eyes over Lan Xichen and getting stuck on the bag.
“Home,” Lan Xichen says, though it pains him to do so. He has come to think of Lotus Pier as his home and to think that it might not be, anymore, hurts. “I miss Wangji,” he tacks on and Jiang Cheng stares at him a moment longer, before he nods.
“Alright. You want me to come pick you up in a few days?” he asks, though Lan Xichen knows he doesn’t have the time for something as unnecessary as that.
“I’ll be fine,” Lan Xichen says, and even when Jiang Cheng nods and goes back to his letter, Lan Xichen can’t help but to wait a few seconds longer, in hopes that Jiang Cheng will look at him and ask if everything is alright.
He doesn’t. Instead one of Sect Leader Yao’s men come in and demand Jiang Cheng’s attention. Again.
Lan Xichen leaves without another word.
~*~*~
“You’re troubled,” Lan Wangji says as Lan Xichen pours him some tea and Lan Xichen huffs out a little laugh.
Everyone always praises him for his ability to read Lan Wangji, but they never notice that the same goes the other way around as well. No one understands him like Lan Wangji does.
“Jiang Cheng knows,” Lan Xichen says once he is seated again and Lan Wangji is shocked by those news, Lan Xichen can tell by the slight widening of his eyes and the almost untraceable tension in his shoulders.
“You told him,” he says and it would be an accusation from anyone else but Lan Xichen shakes his head.
“I slipped up. Got too comfortable around him,” he admits. “I changed during the night and he woke up.”
“Are you unhurt?” Lan Wangji asks and Lan Xichen sends him a reprimanding look.
“Of course I am,” he answers. “He wouldn’t hurt me.”
“But something happened,” Lan Wangji goes on, leaving Lan Xichen’s last words uncommented and Lan Xichen frowns in his tea.
“He said he accepted me like I am,” Lan Xichen slowly admits, “but I’m not sure if that’s true.”
“What has he done?” Lan Wangji demands to know and his voice is noticeably colder.
“Nothing,” Lan Xichen reassures him, though he knows Lan Wangji doesn’t believe him.
“What has he done?” Lan Wangji asks again and Lan Xichen sighs.
“He said I could be who I am around him, but I’m not sure if he’s really okay with that. He didn’t seem disgusted by my form, but—,” he trails off, because he doesn’t know how to say it.
Jiang Cheng doesn’t act differently around him. It’s just—he didn’t ask any more questions, he didn’t ask to see again and he didn’t wonder why Lan Xichen never takes on his true form either.
“Did he ask you questions?” Lan Wangji asks and Lan Xichen knows where his mind is going and he almost slams his tea cup down.
“He didn’t ask about any weaknesses, Wangji, and I don’t appreciate the implications. He is my cultivation partner. He is my family.”
“And he didn’t fail to kill his family before,” Lan Wangji coldly gives back and Lan Xichen can feel his temper rise.
“Do not get into that again, Wangji,” he warns, because he is tired of his brother accusing Jiang Cheng of killing Wei Wuxian when even Wei Wuxian had to admit that it wasn’t quite that clear cut as to what truly happened.
“You shouldn’t have told him,” Lan Wangji says after a lengthy pause and then he gets up. “He cannot be trusted. Clearly you know that as well, since you are here and not with him,” he tells Lan Xichen and then turns around and leave.
Lan Xichen is left to stare after his brother and a very small part of himself wonders if maybe Lan Wangji is right.
He pushes the thought away as best as he can and then tidies up before he settles down to meditate. He hopes it will clear his mind.
~*~*~
Lan Xichen doesn’t know how long he’s been in meditation but when someone knocks at his door it’s already dark outside.
Lan Xichen stands up to open the door and when he sees Jiang Cheng on the other side of it, he freezes completely for a moment.
“What are you doing here?” he then blurts out and Jiang Cheng scratches the side of his face.
“Can I come in?” he asks instead of answering Lan Xichen’s question and Lan Xichen steps to the side to allow him in.
“What about old man Yao?” Lan Xichen asks and Jiang Cheng rolls his eyes at him.
“Fuck him, he took up enough of my time already. It didn’t feel right, you leaving like that, and I couldn’t help but wonder if something is wrong?” Jiang Cheng carefully asks and Lan Xichen shrugs.
“You tell me. Is something wrong?”
“You seem troubled. Right now more than this morning, I might add. Did something happen? Is your brother okay?”
“My brother implied that you would kill me, if given the chance,” Lan Xichen can’t help but to say bitterly and Jiang Cheng jerks back as if Lan Xichen had hit him.
“What?” he gets out and Lan Xichen scrubs a tired hand over his face.
“Jiang Cheng, are you really alright with me being what I am?” Lan Xichen softly asks, though he can’t quite meet Jiang Cheng’s eyes. “Because I think you might not be. And that’s okay,” he goes on, even though it’s anything but, “I don’t expect you to just accept it, but I need you to be honest with me.”
“Xichen, what I said to you on that morning is true. I love you, no matter what form you have. Nothing changed that, why would you even think that?”
“Because you didn’t ask anything. Because you didn’t want to see again,” Lan Xichen tells him and Jiang Cheng sighs.
“Come here?” he asks and holds his hands out, letting Lan Xichen decide if he wants to go for the hug or not, and Lan Xichen steps forward and right into his arms without hesitation.
Jiang Cheng holds him for long moments, and Lan Xichen clings to him because he has already been halfway convinced that he would lose this. That he maybe already lost this.
After a while Jiang Cheng gently pushes Lan Xichen away from him.
“I told you you could be who you are around me,” he softly says and takes Lan Xichen’s hands in his. “And you didn’t, you always stayed in your human form. So I thought maybe you are comfortable in that form, consider that who you are, and I didn’t want to pressure you,” he explains and Lan Xichen can’t help but let out a huff at that.
“And I never asked any questions, because I thought that would be a lengthy conversation, and you have seen how demanding old man Yao can be. I didn’t want to be interrupted. My plan was to steal you away the second he finally left, so I could finally ask all my questions.”
“And I thought you didn’t want to know,” Lan Xichen whispers and leans their foreheads together. “I thought you didn’t want to see again, now that you had some time to think about it.”
“To be completely honest,” Jiang Cheng starts and his tone alone makes Lan Xichen pull away from him.
He would be worried with that start, but the slight blush on Jiang Cheng’s face only serves to make him intrigued.
“For the past week I wanted nothing more than to get a hug from you, from real you,” Jiang Cheng emphasises. “Nothing against the hugs human-form you gives, but being hugged by all of your gazillion tentacles? That’s what I craved ever since that old man came to Lotus Pier and won’t stop nagging me.”
Lan Xichen laughs out loud at that, his relief spilling out and he pulls Jiang Cheng close again.
“Why didn’t you say something?”
“I thought being in that form around me makes you uncomfortable!” Jiang Cheng protests and Lan Xichen sighs.
“We really have to talk, don’t we?”
“Please. I have so many questions, and there is no Yao here who can just barge in and demand I talk to his farmers about the harvest,” Jiang Cheng says with an eyeroll and Lan Xichen brushes a soft kiss over his lips.
“But first a hug?” Lan Xichen asks and Jiang Cheng already goes boneless against him.
“Please,” he whispers and Lan Xichen steers them over to the bed where he sits Jiang Cheng down, who whines when Lan Xichen pulls away.
“Close your eyes,” he whispers as he puts his hand over Jiang Cheng’s eyes.
The transformation isn’t made for human eyes, he just wants to protect Jiang Cheng from the headache they normally bring on, but Jiang Cheng pushes his hand down.
“I want to see,” he softly gives back. “I always want to see.”
“I love you,” Lan Xichen whispers, leans down for another kiss, and then he just lets go, expands and takes the place he rightfully owns.
Jiang Cheng doesn’t look away during the process and Lan Xichen immediately reaches out for him with his many arms. Jiang Cheng welcomes them, slides his hands over Lan Xichen’s tentacles and Lan Xichen almost forgot how that feels, being touched in this form.
It’s so much more intense and he shudders when Jiang Cheng just smoothes his hands up and down his tentacles.
“Okay?” Jiang Cheng asks, clearly feeling how Lan Xichen reacts to him and since Lan Xichen can’t answer him verbally, he starts to manhandle Jiang Cheng into bed.
Jiang Cheng laughs when Lan Xichen wraps his tentacles around him to move him under the blanket before Lan Xichen slides in himself, all shimmering, slithering mass but Jiang Cheng doesn’t seem put off by it at the slightest.
Once Lan Xichen has found a comfortable position Jiang Cheng immediately scoots closer, burrows into Lan Xichen’s centre and Lan Xichen wraps all of his countless tentacles around him.
Jiang Cheng lets out a deep sigh and sinks completely against Lan Xichen.
“That’s what I’m talking about,” he slurs out, and Lan Xichen would chuckle if he still had his mouth to do so.
“You’re amused,” Jiang Cheng says and strokes his hands over Lan Xichen’s form again. “I can tell. You’re amused, and you love me.”
And now Lan Xichen is getting all emotionally choked up as well, because he never expected Jiang Cheng to understand him so well, even in this form.
“I love you, too,” Jiang Cheng tells him and tilts his head until he finds one of the few eyes Lan Xichen decided on. “I love you,” he says with emphasis. “Not only in this form, or the human one. I just love you, no matter what you look like, and I want you to take whichever form you feel more comfortable with around me, because I don’t care. As long as I have you close and with me, I don’t care.”
Lan Xichen didn’t know he could cry in this form, but of course Jiang Cheng would teach him differently.
“Are you crying?” Jiang Cheng suddenly asks with apparent horror. “Did I make you sad?”
Lan Xichen changes to his human form, just enough to be able to talk, even as he pulls Jiang Cheng closer to him again.
“I am happy. You make me happy, because you accept me for who I am,” Lan Xichen tells him and Jiang Cheng lightly slaps the first arm he can reach.
“What kind of partner would I be, if I didn’t?” he wants to know but Lan Xichen doesn’t have an answer for that, so instead he tightens his arms around Jiang Cheng once more.
“Questions after my nap,” Jiang Cheng decides, voice already slurred, clearly completely and utterly content in Lan Xichen’s arms. “So many questions.”
“Whatever you want, my heart,” Lan Xichen murmurs as he lets a few more eyes appear all over his body.
He knows there’s no danger in the Cloud Recesses, but he wants to watch over Jiang Cheng while he sleeps anyway.
It’s a humbling experience, to witness how much Jiang Cheng trusts him, and Lan Xichen swears to the ancestors, he will do everything in his power to make him happy.
And if that is by hugging him in this form, then it’s not even a hardship for Lan Xichen.

This is the second part of @renazeros ask, with the prompt being “Stop staring at me like that”. It turned into some Eldritch!Lan again. Previous part
Jiang Cheng’s eyes are burning, he is that tired. The candlelight doesn’t help, at all, and he knows he will have to admit defeat sooner or later.
Just one more report, he thinks and forces himself to reach out for the next paper on his never-ending stack.
Just one more. He can do that. And then, afterwards, he can finally climb into bed with Lan Xichen and sleep for the next two days.
The words on the paper are swimming in front of his eyes, and Jiang Cheng rubs his temples, determined to get this done today. At least this.
He is still in the Cloud Recesses, after he followed Lan Xichen here to finally clear the air between them, and he knows that his paperwork back in Lotus Pier must be piling up thrice as fast. Right now, he is only dealing with the most pressing matters, after all. Old man Yao alone will have bombarded him with demands, Jiang Cheng is sure of it.
He sighs again and then concentrates back on his report. Jiang Cheng barely has read one sentence when the fine hairs at the back of his neck stand up, letting him know that he is being watched.
He turns around, but he’s only met with a darkness so deep it seems unreal and he huffs out a laugh.
“Stop staring at me like that,” he mutters out and is rewarded by dozens of eyes blinking open at him.
Jiang Cheng gets the distinct impression that Lan Xichen is pouting at him, the ‘I didn’t even have my eyes open’ clear in every swish of his tentacles and Jiang Cheng throws him a fond glance.
“And yet you were staring,” he gives back and turns back around to his report, though concentrating just got a whole lot more difficult, now that he knows Lan Xichen is in the same room as him.
Reaching out and just falling into him has never seemed more tempting than in this moment.
Lan Xichen is silent in this form, always so silent, but Jiang Cheng still notices the darkness outside of the candlelight shift as Lan Xichen slowly makes his way forward.
Jiang Cheng protectively cages the report in with his arm, because he knows what’s coming. They have had this fight a few times already, Lan Xichen demanding he rests, while Jiang Cheng is determined to at least pretend to be the leader of his own sect.
Jiang Cheng never wins, in the end, not that he minds that terribly much.
The tentacles start moving up his body, caressing him as they go, and Jiang Cheng immediately relaxes at that.
He distantly wonders if Lan Xichen will ever stop having that effect on him, but he’s soon enough distracted by the wandering tentacles tugging at his report.
“Stop it,” Jiang Cheng complains and slaps the tentacle away, not that it’s doing much, since three more immediately follow.
“Just this one,” Jiang Cheng tries and the tentacles stop for a second, before their tugging gets more insistent.
The message is more than clear.
“I will come to bed once this report is dealt with,” Jiang Cheng says, though his words are almost swallowed by the huge yawn that overtakes him.
He swears Lan Xichen is laughing at him and Jiang Cheng musters up all his anger to send a glare in his direction.
“It’s not funny,” he complains but the black mass, and all its eyes, just cosies up to him, soothing his apparently hurt feelings and Jiang Cheng relaxes into Lan Xichen for a second.
He should have known that it was a second too long.
The tentacles immediately wrap around him, always so careful with him, and pull him away from the desk.
“Xichen!” Jiang Cheng complains, though all his struggling doesn’t help.
If Lan Xichen doesn’t want to let him go, then Jiang Cheng won’t get out of his hug, they both know that.
Still, Jiang Cheng puts up a token protest and he can feel Lan Xichen’s mischievous laugh, right before his tentacles extinguish all the candles in the room at once.
It’s pitch dark, and Jiang Cheng’s eyes are decidedly not trying to adjust to the sudden darkness, traitors that they are.
“Fine,” he eventually huffs with a sigh. “You win, you big bad monster. Take me to bed then,” he demands, and tries to ignore the smug feeling he gets from Lan Xichen.
Lan Xichen quickly brings him over to the bed, not even allowing him to walk there by himself, and he is gentle as he manoeuvres Jiang Cheng into bed.
“Rude,” Jiang Cheng complains when Lan Xichen pushes him down into the mattress harder than is maybe necessary. “Very rude of you, to handle your boyfriend like this.”
Lan Xichen’s from starts to change, and the pressure in the room lets Jiang Cheng know that he’s about to turn back into his human form, but he still doesn’t close his eyes.
He loves seeing his boyfriend change his forms, so Jiang Cheng doesn’t look away, no matter how much pressure it puts on his head.
“If you were even a bit more cooperative, I wouldn’t have to be so rude,” Lan Xichen informs him as soon as his mouth is fully formed and Jiang Cheng smiles at him.
“But then you wouldn’t get to manhandle me like that,” he gives back, knowing full well just how much Lan Xichen loves it that Jiang Cheng trusts his true form enough to handle him with care, no matter the situation and Lan Xichen only sighs as he slides into bed next to Jiang Cheng.
“You really shouldn’t stay up that long,” Lan Xichen says as he pulls Jiang Cheng close, who immediately cuddles into his chest. “It’s not healthy for you. You need rest.”
“Maybe I just need someone who keeps me in bed,” Jiang Cheng mutters back and he hides his smile in Lan Xichen’s neck when a few of his tentacles immediately wrap around him, just like he has hoped for.
“That can be arranged,” Lan Xichen tells him with a kiss to his head and Jiang Cheng goes boneless against him.
Jiang Cheng never sleeps as well as he does with Lan Xichen literally wrapped all around him and he just snuggles closer.
“You’re unbelievable,” Lan Xichen mutters, but Jiang Cheng knows that he is beyond happy, can feel it radiate from every single tentacle that’s hugging him close.
Jiang Cheng wriggles his fingers where his hand is resting on Lan Xichen’s waist and one tentacle immediately wraps around it, following Jiang Cheng’s silent demand to hold hands. He loves that he gets to do all the things with Lan Xichen at once.
“I love you,” Jiang Cheng mutters, already more asleep than awake, but he still fights being completely pulled under until he hears Lan Xichen say it back.
He doesn’t have to wait long at all.

Untamed Winter Fest Day 26
Surprise
Another Eldritch!Lan AU, following directly after Anticipation (Untamed Winter Fest Day 24) and features more found family (Xicheng+Jingyi) than any pairings.
“Jingyi?“ Jiang Cheng calls out as he walks into Lan Jingyi’s room.
Jiang Cheng and Lan Xichen had a very, very long talk about Lan Xichen’s otherness and now Jiang Cheng wants to tell Lan Jingyi hat he knows about them, and whenever Lan Jingyi is at Lotus Pier, he’s free to be who he really is there as well.
He would never admit it out loud, but he took quite the liking to Lan Jingyi and his loud mouth and his unapologetic behaviour. He knows he favours him amongst the disciples that are not Jin Ling, but Jiang Cheng can’t and won’t change that.
And Jiang Cheng wants him to know that he accepts Lan Jingyi completely.
Except, when he enters the room he’s met with a form so completely different from Lan Xichen’s that he stops dead in his tracks.
“What the fuck!” he yells out and stumbles back, because those sure are a lot of jaws on one relatively small form and he isn’t sure just how friendly it is.
Very friendly, he realizes, when the form compresses into the familiar shape of Lan Jingyi.
“Sandu Shengshou,” Lan Jingyi whispers, voice small and he hunches in on himself, takes a few steps back from Jiang Cheng.
“Holy ancestors, is that what you look like?” Jiang Cheng blurts out because Lan Xichen did not mention that they didn’t all look the same.
“I’m sorry,” Lan Jingyi says and makes himself even smaller. “I’m not dangerous, I promise, Sandu Shengshou, please don’t think of me as a threat.”
“What did I say about using that title?” Jiang Cheng wants to know on autopilot and he finally shakes the surprise off.
“To not use it,” Lan Jingyi mumbles and then bows towards Jiang Cheng. “This disciple apologizes.”
Jiang Cheng shudders with the formality in this words and he swiftly walks forward, intends to bring Lan Jingyi out of the bow, but Lan Jingyi scrambles back, presses against the wall and won’t meet Jiang Cheng’s eyes.
“I never hurt anyone,” he rushes out and Jiang Cheng stops in his tracks.
“What do you think I’m going to do, Jingyi?” he asks carefully as he takes a step away from Lan Jingyi.
“I don’t know,” Lan Jingyi whispers, and he wrings his hands in front of his chest.
“I know that none of you Lan’s are humans,” Jiang Cheng tells him. “Xichen told me, a week ago.”
“Oh,” Lan Jingyi breathes out, but he doesn’t relax. “I’m sorry you had to find out about my form this way,” he then tacks on.
“It would have been nice to know that not all of you look like Xichen, that was quite the surprise,” Jiang Cheng admits, because he expected all of them to look like Lan Xichen.
Especially since Lan Xichen never mentioned any other forms.
Jiang Cheng hopes Lan Jingyi will relax now, but he doesn’t.
“Jingyi,” he says and Lan Jingyi jerks under his voice. “What’s wrong?”
“It’s just me,” he mumbles, so lowly that Jiang Cheng can barely hear him.
“It’s just you what?” he asks for clarification.
“It’s just me who is different,” Lan Jingyi says and Jiang Cheng is horrified to hear how choked up he sounds. “Just me who won’t fit. I’m sorry you had to see, I’ll make sure it won’t happen anymore.”
“Jingyi,” Jiang Cheng softly says and carefully walks closer until he can put his hand on Lan Jingyi’s shoulder, who is shaking under his hand.
“I was just surprised. Xichen didn’t mention other forms, and I got used to his eyes already. It was a surprise,” he reiterates, but he can tell that Lan Jingyi isn’t reassured.
He decides to just fuck it and pulls Lan Jingyi into a hug. The boy is shaking in his arms and Jiang Cheng just holds him tighter.
“Of course you would be special in both your forms,” Jiang Cheng whispers and he must have said the right thing, because Lan Jingyi clings to him.
“You’re not disgusted?” he asks, voice horribly wobbly, and Jiang Cheng pushes him away to look him in the eyes.
“I am not disgusted,” he seriously tells him. “It was a surprise, and I’m sorry that I reacted badly.”
“I’m sorry you had to see,” Lan Jingyi mumbles but Jiang Cheng shakes his head.
“No, I’m not. I want to know these things. I want to know you,” he tells him and it seems that slowly, Lan Jingyi starts to believe him. “I came here to tell you not to hide at Lotus Pier. If you are with me or Xichen, you can take your form.”
“Even though I’m so different?” Lan Jingyi wants to know and Jiang Cheng sighs.
“Especially because you are different,” he says. “You’re not human. You shouldn’t have pretend to be one.”
“But I’m not like them, either,” Lan Jingyi mumbles and Jiang Cheng wonders if he needs to have words with Lan Qiren, or gods forbid, even Lan Xichen.
He will if they made Lan Jingyi think he’s worth less for being different.
“And I am not like you,” Jiang Cheng says, though he’s aware that it’s a poor comparison. “I’m not like Wei Wuxian or Lan Sizhui or even anyone else at Lotus Pier, either. No two humans are the same, and it would surprise me if two of your kind were the same.”
Lan Jingyi is quiet for a long moment and Jiang Cheng lets him think.
“None of them has mouths like I do,” he eventually brings out and Jiang Cheng rolls his eyes at that.
“Well, their loss if they can’t eat,” he gives back and it startles a laugh out of Lan Jingyi.
Though it does make Jiang Cheng curious.
“Is that why you always eat so much?” he wants to know and is horrified to see that Lan Jingyi shrinks in on himself again.
“I’m sorry, I don’t mean to eat so much, I know I take more than the normal ration, I’m sorry.”
Jiang Cheng takes a few deep breaths, wonders again just who here he needs to beat up for making Lan Jingyi think like this, before he pushes it all away for a later time.
“Jingyi, you should always eat as much as you need. Do we not give you enough? You have to let me know so I can make sure you get enough food until you’re no longer hungry.”
“I wouldn’t want to impose,” Lan Jingyi brings out.
“Family can’t impose,” Jiang Cheng blurts out and only realizes what he has said when Lan Jingyi turns wide eyes on him.
“What?” he breathlessly asks and Jiang Cheng decides to just fuck it.
He can’t take it back, won’t take it back and make Lan Jingyi think that he didn’t mean it. He can deal with a little bit of embarrassment. Lan Jingyi shouldn’t have to deal with a lie.
“I said, family can’t impose.”
“But I’m not,” Lan Jingyi says with a frown. “I’m not family.”
“Aren’t you?” Jiang Cheng asks. “You are aware that Xichen sees you as his adopted son, right?” Jiang Cheng asks. “And I’m sorry I’m not so good with showing emotions, but I do consider you family.”
“It always felt like you singled me out,” Lan Jingyi admits and Jiang Cheng sighs.
“I’m sorry about that, but you’re the only Lan disciple I actually more than care for,” he says and then curses his inability to just tell the boy he loves him.
He has the same problem with Jin Ling.
“I didn’t know that,” Lan Jingyi says with a happy blush and Jiang Cheng vows to do better from now on.
“You do now, so no more pretending, okay? If you need something at Lotus Pier you just ask.”
“Alright,” Lan Jingyi agrees and then darts in for a hug again. “Thank you for not hating me,” Lan Jingyi whispers and Jiang Cheng returns the hug.
“Who do I have to fight for making you think that? Do I have to fight my own cultivation partner?” he wants to know, but before he can answer, said partner storms into the room.
“Jiang Cheng, I forgot to say—,” Lan Xichen starts, but he trails off when he sees Jiang Cheng and Lan Jingyi in a hug.
“That he’s special in every way?” Jiang Cheng wants to know. “Yeah, I already figured that one out myself.”
“I can see that,” Lan Xichen says and then eyes the hand Jiang Cheng still has on Lan Jingyi’s shoulder, even after they part. “And I can also see that you don’t mind,” he says with a small smile and something in Jiang Cheng relaxes.
“So I don’t have to fight you?” he asks and while Lan Xichen stares at him in confusion, Lan Jingyi laughs.
“No, you don’t have to fight him,” he tells them. “Zewu-Jun is the only one who was never put off by my form.”
“What did I say about the title?” Lan Xichen asks and Jiang Cheng laughs at the déjà vu that sentence brings on.
“To not use it,” Lan Jingyi mumbles and then takes a step closer to Jiang Cheng before he carefully asks: “Do you really consider me to be your adopted son?”
He’s nervous, they can both tell, and Lan Xichen and Jiang Cheng share a look in the silence that question leaves behind, until Lan Xichen walks forwards and takes Lan Jingyi’s hands in his.
“I’m sorry I never told you, but I do.”
Orphans are typically raised by the sect as a whole, and it’s not unusual to not have adopted parents. Wei Wuxian was different, because he didn’t have a sect, but Lan Jingyi does. So of course he wouldn’t have assumed anything.
Instead of an answer Lan Jingyi throws his arms around Lan Xichen’s neck, who promptly slings his arms around Lan Jingyi as well.
Lan Xichen and Jiang Cheng share another look, before Lan Xichen smirks at him. Before Jiang Cheng can take a wary step back, Lan Xichen already pulled him into the hug as well.
Lan Jingyi makes a little sound of surprise, but he doesn’t complain, and really, there are worse fates than hugging the man Jiang Cheng loves and the kid he sees as family as well.
