It's nice sometimes to find projects that don't take a lot of time.
Tumblr media
I just (mostly) repaired this vintage microphone, a Shure Model PE 56D. I found it, broken but in its case, in a junk shop quite some time ago, and hadn't gotten to it until tonight. The problems with it were that a few solder joints had broken — two to the capsule, and one to the XLR connector — and the connector had had a couple of its wires attached to the wrong lugs. After correcting those, I was able to confirm it works just now; it only lacks one missing screw to hold the connector in place more securely. Once I can find a replacement for that, I can put it to work. The model was a workhorse of the 1970s, and one Reverb listing selling one claims there are photos of Hendrix using one, so we'll see how it stacks up to my assortment of cheap&cheerful modern mics.
EDIT: Oh, big shout out to 1970s Shure for including a wiring diagram with accurate wire color information in their user manual, and to present-day Shure, for having that manual available as a PDF on their website!

Ultra shitty day, so pulled out another iPod from the box to see if I could fix it. What was a 15GB third gen is now up and running with a 64GB SD card and a fresh battery. Apparently you can put a 128GB card in a gen 3, but I've heard mixed things about compatibility and I wanted a quick win, rather than having to fuck with the thing all night. I'm not that greedy either way.

Hey people who open up there ds to replace or fix things, I have a ds I need to just change the LCD on, but one of the people I live with requested I take apart a ds first before borrowing one of their old ds LCD screens. Anyways I just did that, it’s 3 am, I am fueled by spite, but I cannot for the life of me get the touch screen cable to reconnect. I’ve done this twice. Everything about the ds is fine it runs fine, it’s buttons all register, everything else in it works, I just can’t get the touch screen cable to reconnect. Any tips? And I’ll send actual pictures or a video in the morning after I’ve slept and I’m not sleep deprived. Maybe that will help But just in general I am requesting help with getting the cable to connect again.

Resolving Issues with a Washing Machine That Refuses to Spin: Identifying Causes and Swift Solutions
When you find that your laundry remains excessively wet after a washing cycle, there can be several factors at play. Often, these issues can be addressed independently without the need for specialized assistance, like the services provided by Rup Air Condition and Repairs.
Potential Causes of a Non-Spinning Washing Machine
It's important to understand that the problem of insufficient spinning in your washing machine may not always stem from a malfunction in the appliance itself. Many times, it can be attributed to user errors or a lack of proper maintenance. Here are some potential factors to consider:
Transport Lock: Newly purchased washing machines come equipped with a transport lock to prevent damage during shipping. If your machine remains immobile during operation, it may be because the transport lock hasn't been removed. Detailed removal instructions can be found in your user manual.
Machine Placement: Effective spinning depends on a stable and level machine. Verify the proper positioning of your washing machine using a spirit level. Specialized washing machine pads, available at hardware stores, can help correct minor irregularities and enhance stability.
Improper Loading: Each washing machine has a designated load capacity for dry laundry. However, as clothes absorb water during the wash, they become heavier. Overloading the machine can lead to spinning issues.
Blocked Components: The lint filter, pump, drain hose, and siphon all play crucial roles in your washing machine's operation. Neglecting their maintenance can disrupt the wash cycle:
The lint filter captures lint and small objects, preventing them from entering the machine. Neglecting its upkeep can lead to disruptions during the cycle.
A blocked pump can impede proper water drainage, resulting in inadequate spinning.
An obstructed drain hose can cause water to accumulate inside the machine. To resolve this you can take the assistance of the best hair and skin clinic in Kolkata.
Cleaning the Lint Filter, Pump, and Drain Hose
In many cases, resolving the issue is as simple as cleaning these components. Here are the steps to follow:
Cleaning the Lint Filter:
Open the lower door of the washing machine.
Remove larger debris by hand.
Rinse the filter under running water and wipe it clean with a lint-free microfiber cloth.
Cleaning the Pump:
The pump is safeguarded by the lint filter and an impeller. It's advisable to clean both since larger debris can accumulate in the impeller.
Shine a flashlight into the opening left after removing the filter screen.
Use your fingers to remove significant debris.
Rinse the impeller under running water and reinstall it.
Cleaning the Drain Hose:
Unplug the machine and have an empty bucket nearby to catch any remaining water.
Remove the clamps securing the hose and drain.
Soak the hose in a solution of dish soap or a protein remover for several hours to loosen accumulated dirt.
Thoroughly rinse the hose using high-pressure water, using a bottle brush if necessary to remove any remaining residue.
Additional Tips:
Place towels or cleaning cloths under the machine to absorb any potential water leakage.
Avoid using abrasive detergents.
Conduct regular inspections of the lint filter, pump, and hose for blockages, at least once a year.
If you've diligently followed these steps and your washing machine still refuses to spin as expected, it may indicate more complex issues, such as defective shock absorbers, worn motor brushes, or a malfunctioning pump. In such cases, seeking professional assistance is advisable. Qualified technicians from Rup Air Condition can assess the appliance for damage and provide guidance on whether repair or replacement is the most practical course of action.

"The California state government has passed a landmark law that obligates technology companies to provide parts and manuals for repairing smartphones for seven years after their market release.
Senate Bill 244 passed 65-0 in the Assembly, and 38-0 in the Senate, and made California, the seat of so much of American technological hardware and software, the third state in the union to pass this so-called “right to repair” legislation.
On a more granular level, the bill guarantees consumers’ rights to replacement parts for three years’ time in the case of devices costing between $50 and $99, and seven years in the case of devices costing more than $100, with the bill retroactively affecting devices made and sold in 2021.
Similar laws have been passed in Minnesota and New York, but none with such a long-term period as California.
“Accessible, affordable, widely available repair benefits everyone,” said Kyle Wiens, the CEO of advocacy group iFixit, in a statement. “We’re especially thrilled to see this bill pass in the state where iFixit is headquartered, which also happens to be Big Tech’s backyard. Since Right to Repair can pass here, expect it to be on its way to a backyard near you.” ...
One of the reasons Wiens is cheering this on is because large manufacturers, from John Deere to Apple, have previously lobbied heavily against right-to-repair legislation for two reasons. One, it allows them to corner the repair and maintenance markets, and two, it [allegedly] protects their intellectual property and trade secrets from knock-offs or competition.
However, a byproduct of the difficulty of repairing modern electronics is that most people just throw them away.
...Wien added in the statement that he believes the California bill is a watershed that will cause a landslide of this legislation to come in the near future."

Thrift store find, and a project:
Tumblr media
Got this Alesis QX25 MIDI controller in as-is condition for $12. The most obvious problems when I got it were that the fader cap and one rotary encoder knob were missing, and one of the black keys was broken. In addition, there were solfege stickers on the keys, implying the previous owner was pretty young; that impression was backed up when I opened it to find maybe half a container of assorted glitter inside.
Tumblr media
The fader cap I haven't come up with yet, and I've put a temporary knob on the encoder — the one at the far right — and I was able to partially disassemble the keybed and glue the key back together. (I'm using Gorilla Glue's superglue formulation, which is supposed to be better than usual cyanoacrylates at bonding plastics; if this doesn't hold, I know where to order replacements.) From a quick once over, the current status is that some of the tact switches are broken somehow — the ones, at least, for octave up and transpose down don't work. I've only given those the most cursory inspection, so I don't know if it's the switches themselves or something in the wiring; I'll have to see if my big box of tact switches has anything I can swap in for them.
But the "project" part is the part that has me enthused. Unlike a lot of more recent MIDI controllers, this one has both a USB jack for connecting to a computer and a 5-pin DIN jack for traditional MIDI instruments. It's also got a lot of spare room inside the case. So I'm looking at taking an Arduino or a Teensy and some little digital-to-analog converters and adding the ability to output CV and gate signals for modular synthesizers. Basically the Arduino will listen to the MIDI signal and interpret that; the minimal feature set is a single note off channel 1, just the CV and gate corresponding to the most recently struck key, but may expand to multiple notes and/or handling the drum pads as their own gate/trigger outs, and probably an extra CV out that can follow the mod wheel or pitch bend.
I'm debating which DACs to use. I have some lying around — the spoils of a time when Linear, Analog Devices, and Maxim were separate companies, and they, Microchip, and Texas Instruments would give out free samples if you had a plausible-sounding company name — but a lot of them aren't particularly well-suited for this. I want to run everything off the existing 5V supply — either a wall wart or USB — and not need elaborate external analog circuits to do things. I'm looking at the MCP4811, a single-channel 10-bit device, which has the advantage of an internal voltage reference at 2.048V, and a ×2 output, for a full range of 0V-4.096V that's very reliable even when run off a unreliable 5V power supply, like the keyboard's USB power input.
(In an ideal world, I'd have a perfect 1v reference, and a precision adder, so that the full precision of the part, all the bits, could be applied to just the 0-1V range, and then I could add single volts as needed to specify the octave. If we're calling 0V C0, then with the 10-bit setup over the 4.096V spread, you have to use value 396 to get G1, and you're imperceptibly sharp; with ten bits over a single volt, you'd use value 597 and add an extra volt and you'd be... slightly closer but flat this time. So the ideal world can fuck itself, and I'll see how the thing I actually have works.)

Save Hundreds On iPhone Back Glass Repair @ Cell Clinic Vancouver & Surrey
Tumblr media
Apple has currently gone back to using the back glass as a back cover, like the iPhone 4 and 4S models. They have done this because the current wireless charging technology is most effective when using glass. The downside though… is that it makes the phone breakable on both sides.
The front screen of these newer devices is easily changed in a repair shop but only some repair shops have the tools and ability to properly repair the back glass on your iPhone.
As I write this blog, the current price to get this fix done at the Apple store is $779 when replacing the back of the iPhone Xs Max! That's an outrageous price to pay — so we have came up with 3 cheaper alternatives available for you at Cell Clinic Vancouver and Surrey.
Tumblr media
Option 1:  Replacing just the back glass - This first option is the most affordable option currently priced at Cell Clinic for $149. The drawback to this option is your back glass may not be absolutely seamless. We do our best to re-seal this back glass cover, but depending on how damaged your back will depend on how seamless this new glass cover will sit. The repair wait time is approximately 1 hour.
Option 2:  Replacing the full frame and back glass - This option is slightly more expensive option, currently priced at $299. The benefit of going with this full frame option is that you get a perfect result, and the phone will look like it did the day you bought it.
This repair takes approximately 1.5 hours no matter which option you choose for repair or replacement.
Tumblr media
Option 3: Protection Pro “Clearplex” - This option is the cheapest but it is not an actual repair or replacement of parts. Protection Pro allows you to cover up this broken back glass with many different patterns and colours. For more details on this visit: https://www.cellclinic.ca/protectionpro
We hope one of these three solutions for you, or you could always just cover your phone with a case.
