Comicon days.

In the past few days my town has hosted Naples Comicon, one of the few comic convention in Italy (the other one is organized in Bergamo, a northern Italian city so far away), such a must-see massive event. I've been there twice and had a lot of fun. I also bought some nice gadgets for a decent price. Despite everything, I was able to spend a few hours to studying. I still have some lessons to catch up on my course, which I’ll strive to make up by early next week. Meanwhile I made progress with my (ex) current reading 📖Carol by Patricia Highsmith: I finally finished it. One of the best books I've ever read. It left me with many awarenesses and I found myself in many passages of the author. A book that definitely leaves no one unconcerned: it makes you experience so much such as falling in love, a heartbreak, a changed soul after pain, a second chance as a sort of happy ending and many more. This truly is a book of mixed emotions for me: happiness, understanding, identification, but also nostalgia, sadness, abandonment. I forgot how attached one could be to a book. For the next reading I'm dying to read something by Elena Ferrante after accidentally coming across a piece written by her on female solidarity (you can find it in “Incidental Inventions”, paragraph ‘odious women’), but unfortunately I don't have any of her books at the moment. The choice is now between three titles: The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry (in my library for ages), Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë (bought a couple of years ago) and The Tea Planter’s Wife by Dinah Jefferies (which should arrive in a couple of days). Maybe I'll choose the former for its small and inviting size.

Monster: Aurinelle himself does not picture himself as “monstrous” in any way, but I guess some people might from an outside point of view. I guess you could say his sheer size in his merform is monstrous, not to mention how horrifying it would look to see a pair of yellow eyes staring at in the pitch dark along with a bunch of tiny little dots (his gems) which the eyes are surrounded with. Yeah, probably not a fun experience.

Aurinelle accepts that not everyone is going to think of him as a regular guy, and he is fine with it. There’s more to life than just appealing to everyone around you, after all (take notes on that Vanes).

Bound: …. I think not answering this one is as much of a spoiler as not answering it so I might as well 😭 but I will not be elaborating or giving specific details, sorry 😣

Aurinelle has indeed been imprisoned before. He was captured by human traffickers (mer traffickers? Idk). He killed the leader to escape. He was left with multiple scars and holes all across his merbody, the worst ones even visible in his human form.

Betrayal: Fortunately, Aurinelle’s trust has never been betrayed by somebody whom he trusted, for he chooses who to trust very, very carefully. And no, he would not dare betray somebody’s trust unless he felt that what they would do or planned to do would be harmful to themselves or to people whom Aurinelle cares about.

The exception is him betraying the trust of people he purposely got close to in order to get intel and has no attachment to. In cases like those, he will indeed betray someone’s trust for his own benefit.

Future: The worst possible outcome? Probably to return home and finding out there was no one left to return to. Aurinelle’s family comes first and foremost to him, and the thought of losing them is enough for him to lose all willingness to live.

However, there is an equally horrid outcome for him, and that is to go back into captivity once again. The thought is just as horrifying for…. Multiple reasons.

If Aurinelle were canon, what do you think would be a famous mischaracterization of his backstory, personality, etc.?

For his personality, I think people would label him as a possessive/jealous Tsundere because of his protectiveness of those whom he loves, such as friends and family. I think this would be a huge mischaracterization because I see it as a recurring issue in the Fandom with characters like Malleus, Jamil, etc. (my condolences to the many characters who have suffered this unfortunate experience 😔), and for the Tsundere part, I feel that because of his stoic nature, people assume that he doesn't want to openly accept affection because it would make him look "weak", even though he actually welcomes it with open arms.

For his backstory, I feel like people would call his parents irresponsible or/and neglectful because they would let Aurinelle and the girls out on their own to hunt, plus they'd point out Aurinelle being the one to "raise" the girls instead of the mums, and therefore would call them irresponsible.

Incredibly horrible take because in the Abyss children have to learn to hunt and care for themselves in case their parents suffer a misfortune and they need to cater for themselves, therefore it is customary to have them learn how to hunt early.

Secondly, the reason Aurinelle took care of the girls more often than the mums did was because they were highly attached to him because Aurinelle would insist on caring for them when they were babies so that his mums could have some resting time on their own, so the children grew more attached to him and sought his care more often (the mums were devastated that the babies didn't want to spend time with them anymore 😭)

I'd headcanon that Diaval would carry Paige in his arms while flying around to give him a feel of what it's like flying without a broom because it's always been his dream to have wings like his mum does :)

Oh Paige would also help Diaval trim his wings every now and then (he knows how to do this because he watched his mum do it all the time as a kid).

For platonic Aurinelle×Vanes, I headcanon that Vanes would do Aurinelle's makeup every time they had a collab performance at Mostro Lounge. Aurinelle doesn't do his own makeup because 1. He doesn't think he needs makeup, 2. He's bad at doing his makeup, and 3. He doesn't understand color theory very well, so Vanes doing his makeup to match his own during performances is just 👨‍🍳🤌💋

🚗- Aurinelle is the driver during a long trip, mainly because he's less likely to fall asleep or get distracted on the road. He also reserves the music picking privilege.

💌- *rubs my evil little mittens together* that, my good friend, would be Neige! Yes that's right, RSA student. During the whole thing going down during Book 5, Neige fell for Aurinelle during NRC's performance. Basically it was love at first sight (I know crazy).

Neige did come up to Aurinelle after the whole ordeal and gave him his number. Aurinelle has nothing personal against Neige the way Vil does, so he decides to humor Neige and add his number. They keep in contact every few days when Neige reaches out. They also go on friend dates now and then when Neige asks Aurinelle to go with him (Rook has a field trip with these).

Paige: Paige is perfectly fine with public displays of affection. Cater can be very touchy all the time, but so can Paige. He welcomes hugs, hand holding, leaning, and forehead kissing.

The feeling is mutual, since Cater is happy with touchy displays of affection, but he limits it at just hugging, hand holding and leaning while in public. Any type of kissing is controversial depending on his mood and the environment.

Aurinelle: He has no opinion on public displays of affection. He doesn't like nor dislike. The main form of public affection he'll display is hand holding (which Rook adores).

Rook is a lot more affectionate but sticks to Aurinelle's preference of only hand holding when in public. When they're on their own Aurinelle let's Rook do what Rook does. (Does picture taking count as a display of affection? Because Rook has like his entire closet full of Aurinelle photos 💀)
