A few days ago I finished reading To Kill A Kingdom and I'm totally IN LOVE ❤️❤️❤️ and I have a huge obsession with this wonderful book. I have always been a "sea" person and the mermaid theme is one of my favorites but To Kill A Kingdom exceeded my wildest expectations. What I felt while reading it is indescribable, seriously I can't name it. I keep going back to my favorite parts now, I just can't tear myself away from this wonderful book. I also admire all the amazing fanarts that Alexandra shared on her Instagram (btw the authors of the fanarts - you are brilliant and mega talented people)

Lira and Elian... MY GOD HOW I LOVE THEM ❤️❤️❤️ you can't even imagine it - they are my favorite couple (they are also in my 1st place when it comes to the heroines of the books I have read so far). I also love Kye and Madrid (shipped them from the very beginning). I recommend reading To Kill A Kingdom to everyone with all my obsessed af heart ❤️

Jurian wasn't sure why he went to them still. Maybe he trusted them more than he did Caudon. But then from the bits and pieces he heard of Caudon now...he wasn't the male he'd been 500 years ago.

Silence of death, the absence of love. He was gone and there was nothing else for her to care about except her daughter, there was nothing else for her to put her all in. Why shouldn't she had come to Caudon?

Her eyes were dark as she glared at Jurian, her hand tightened into a fist. "Go back to where you belong, back to little An. Leave me alone and just go." She didn't want any of her family, none with their perfect happy little lives.

this was... better than i expected? while the premise sounded interesting, i had a feeling that this could either be great, or it could go the extraordinarily boring ya route (think the bright & the pale by jessica rubinkowski) or the unbearably corny ya route (thnk, well, most of what sarah j maas has to offer). luckily, TKAK veered for the most part on the really good end of the scale, and the SJM callout on the front cover really does the book/author a disservice.

in general, i much prefer books that don't prioritise a lacklustre romance to the detriment of the plot, and it felt like this did that well. the burn was just slow enough, simmering gently in the background rather than being dialled up to 11 much too soon. some of the moments of "chemistry", which appear in the form of banter, are a little corny and tropey but it was still enjoyable.

the actual storyline pulled me in and had me excited to pick the book up again and again. there were a couple of truly unputdownable moments, which i loved. the story was full of intrigue, deceit, and high stakes, and there was never a lull in the pace.

on the negative side, i think quite a few of the side characters were a little underdeveloped, and i think it's possible some readers will find the two main characters, lira and elian, unlikeable and boring (respectively). i didn't feel that way personally, but i do feel that had i not enjoyed the actual story, the characters would've rubbed me the wrong way. there are also a few moments of nonsensical character actions (for example, it felt like elian was willing to put his entire dream - everything he lived for - on the line and use it as a bargaining chip with far too little buildup. it didn't feel like he was backed into a corner), but they are easy enough to get past.

overall, though, whilst not groundbreaking, i do think it's worth the read if the idea of pirates, sirens and deception pulls you in!
